Stars Hollow Set Photos Show 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Production May Start Soon Posted: Neither Netflix nor the creatives have confirmed the rumored revival of beloved WB/CW series "Gilmore Girls," but all the activity on the Warner Bros. lot lately indicates that the abridged reunion is a go -- and starting production soon. Twitter user @caddyglass shared some snaps on the social media site late last month of a visit to the WB studio lot in Los Angeles, where "GG" was originally filmed, and the evidence all but confirms that something is brewing in Stars Hollow. @caddyglass reported a "fresh coat of paint on miss patty's dance studio," as well as a bunch of signs with the official "Gilmore Girls" logo holding certain props and sets for use later this week and month. Along with Miss Patty's, other recognizable scenes from @caddyglass's visit include Mrs. Kim's house and antique shop (which is also getting a paint job), the barber shop pole that sits outside the front door, and the familiar blue interior and glass exterior of Luke's diner (plus lots of fake food for set dressing). Those images, coupled with the posted signage, indicate that production is beginning soon -- within a matter of days, in fact.News broke in October that Netflix would revive the mother-daughter series for a limited run, written and produced by "GG" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino. While no one has said anything on the record yet, star Lauren Graham didn't exactly deny the news. Word on the street is that the series will run for four "mini-movie" episodes of 90 minutes apiece; the entire thing will reportedly take place over the course of a calendar year, with each episode devoted to one of the four seasons. We can't wait to hear more. Stay tuned. [via: @caddyglass, @caddyglass h/t E! 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Tops 'Avengers' at Global Box Office Posted: Another day, another impressive box office feat for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens": The flick has now surpassed "The Avengers" at the global box office, earning a jaw-dropping $1.54 billion since its December 18 debut. That means that "The Force Awakens" is now the fourth highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office (not accounting for inflation), leaving "Furious 7" ($1.515 billion) and "Avengers" ($1.529) in its dust. That leaves only three flicks for "The Force Awakens" to overtake if it wants to win the worldwide box office crown: "Jurassic World" (number three, with $1.668 billion), "Titanic" (number two, with $2.186 billion), and "Avatar" (number one, with $2.787 billion). It may be impossible to catch up to that latter film, but "Star Wars" has proven that pesky, long-standing box office records are no match for the power of "The Force Awakens," breaking at least 40 box office records as of this week, and possibly more. (So many that even industry tracking titan Box Office Mojo admits that it can't keep up with them all quickly enough.) "The Force Awakens" has yet to overtake "Avatar"'s domestic total of $760.5 million, though that record is expected to fall any [via: The Hollywood Reporter, Box Office Mojo] %Slideshow-348610% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Golden Globes 2016: Presenters Include Mel Gibson, Channing Tatum Posted: The list of presenters for this coming Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony has been trickling out this week, with the first set of names including past winners, stars of current and upcoming big projects, and -- Mel Gibson? At first glance, Gibson is a head-scratching addition to the telecast, though his involvement may be a nostalgia nod: He's most likely going to present the highlight reel for Best Drama nominee "Mad Max: Fury Road." Gibson starred as the titular hero in the original trilogy of "Max" films, which first debuted in 1979. In addition to Gibson, the other big names that will be handing out trophies this weekend include Amy Adams, Jaimie Alexander, Patricia Arquette, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Amber Heard, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kate Hudson, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, Kurt Russell, J.K. Simmons, Channing Tatum, and Olivia Wilde. Expect more presenters to be added to this list as the week continues. The 2016 Golden Globes, hosted by returning emcee Ricky Gervais, air Sunday, January 10 on NBC. PGA Film Nominees Hail 'Mad Max,' 'Sicario,' Snub 'Carol,' 'Room' Posted: The Producers Guild of America announced on Tuesday its slate of nominees for the best films of 2015, and once again, this awards season is proving divisive, based on the eclectic mix of movies recognized by the guild -- and those that were surprisingly snubbed. Unexpected honorees included "Ex Machina" and "Sicario," two films released earlier this year to critical acclaim, but which have been absent from most awards season chatter until now. Other populist fare represented on the PGA's nomination slate included the hit "Straight Outta Compton," as well as apocalyptic flick "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is proving itself a strong contender to muscle its way into a Best Picture Oscar nomination as it continues to snatch statuettes and nominations. As with most awards, there were bound to be some glaring omissions, but the biggest one of all may be "Carol," which failed to earn one of the PGA's 10 Best Film slots, despite plenty of love from other awards shows and critics groups. As Variety notes, the last eight winners of the PGA's top prize have gone on to win the Best Picture Oscar, and up until now "Carol" had been seen as one of the biggest challengers to longtime frontrunner "Spotlight" (which did earn a nomination). After today, that may no longer be the case. Fellow critically-lauded flick "Room" was also left off the PGA's list, as was Quentin Tarantino's much-hyped "The Hateful Eight." Winners will be announced at a ceremony on January 23. The full list of 2015 PGA film nominees is below. The Darryl F. 'Kung Fu Panda 3' Exclusive Clip: Po and His Dad Party Like Heroes Posted: Po reconnects with his long-lost papa in the upcoming "Kung Fu Panda 3," and this exclusive party time, excellent clip shows that our triple-time hero may actually be the more responsible of the two. Bryan Cranston's Li Shan is definitely a "fun dad," with Jack Black's Po trying (but not trying too hard) to behave in this scene set at The Hall of Heroes. Po takes his dad to the "home of the most priceless kung fu artifacts in all of China," and they both agree the Hall of Heroes is "totally awesome." But Po suggests they be super careful because everything in there is fragile. That, of course, leads to Dad trying on amazing battle armor with a pop-up surprise. Then the pair ride giant warrior shields like sleds, spin around in circles, and end up peeing and puking a little -- less like father and son, more like two pleasantly plump panda frat boys who had just a wee bit too much fun on a Saturday night. This third film in the franchise continues Po's "legendary adventures of awesomeness," and you probably saw in the most recent trailer that part of his new quest is to train a village of clumsy (but adorable!) little pandas into an army to defeat a supernatural villain. "Kung Fu Panda 3" -- featuring the voices of Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Hong, J.K. Simmons, and Kate Hudson -- hits theaters on January 29. 'American Idol' Winners: Where Are They Now? Posted: %Slideshow-353355% "American Idol" has delivered plenty of star-power over the years. With the swan-song season set to premiere Wednesday, January 6th, there's no better time to check in on what past winners are up to these days -- especially since not everyone who's won has had the kind of success "Idol" darlings Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have had. Here's what all 14 past "American Idol" winners have been doing since they were crowned America's Next Pop Superstar. (Spoiler alert: Not all of them lived up to that title.) 'Star Wars' Fans Livid Over Rey's Exclusion From Monopoly Game, Hasbro Responds Posted: "Star Wars" fans continue to ask #WheresRey? The hashtag has grown in popularity as fans have protested the exclusion of Daisy Ridley's "Force Awakens" character — arguably the lead of the movie — in tie-in merchandise. She's been left out of box sets from Target and Toys R Us, and she's missing in the new "Star Wars"-themed Monopoly game. Hasbro responded to the complaints, saying it was all a matter of avoiding spoilers."The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie's release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance," Hasbro told Mashable. "Rey is featured in the following Star Wars games: Hands Down, Guess Who and Chess as well as our 6" Black Series figures, 3 3/4" Figures and Vehicles, Black Series Titanium and Micromachines. Additionally, fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6" and 12" Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines." It's only a somewhat valid explanation in our books, though. Would a Rey player piece in a Monoply game really spoiler her role in "The Force Awakens"? Do not pass GO. Want more stuff like this?
