Comics on Film: Why Jared Leto's Joker May Become the "Boogeyman" of the New DC Movie Universe Posted: 30 Apr 2015 09:30 PM PDT With a DC Comics-based cinematic universe on the horizon due to the 2016 releases of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, one of the biggest casting announcements to come out of the news of the latter film was Jared Leto as the Joker. While not historically associated with the Squad, Joker’s presence in a film full of historically villainous DC characters may give an interesting hint at the kind of Joker we’ll be seeing with these new conceptions of DC characters, including Batman and his supporting characters of allies and enemies. Rumors have surfaced recently that claim the Joker will be appearing in some form in Batman v Superman, as well as others saying that Batman will show up in some form in Suicide Squad. The common... Posted: 30 Apr 2015 07:30 PM PDT It's no secret that one of the bigger emerging trends in Hollywood right now are these shared movie universes, a la what Marvel Studios is doing (see: Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters this weekend) and what Warner Bros. will start doing with their own DC movies, beginning with next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But what we aren't seeing from these shared movie universes is an expansion outside the comic book genre. Universal is mounting a shared universe of monster movies and there's been talk of a Robin Hood-themed franchise in the works, but the comedy genre hasn't really been mined for potential... until now. Yes, that 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover movie you heard rumblings about is indeed real, and as we speak Sony is drafting up... New Photos of Batman from 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Show 'Dark Knight Returns' Influence Posted: 30 Apr 2015 06:00 PM PDT Until now, the images we've seen of Batman's suit in and from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice -- including the clips in the first trailer -- have had the costume partly obscured in shadow, or they've been black and white photographs. But we know for sure now that those were all darkened views of this Batman's look, because today via JPosters we've got a color image with full light exposing the latest Batsuit as being much lighter in its shade of grey than we thought. Previous images made the main body appear to possibly even still be black in color but faded in appearance due to lighting. Instead it's actually light grey in color and appears to be darker in those other shots without light shining on it. The color choice is appropriate... See 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Reviewed in Comic Strip Form Posted: 30 Apr 2015 04:30 PM PDT Has it really been three years since our socks were knocked off by Avengers? I'm not sure what happened in the interim. Maybe our feet got bigger. Maybe we got some of those sock stirrups that nobody really wears anymore. Regardless, this time with Avengers: Age of Ultron, our socks were only tugged on, halfway flopping off our collective toes, but never blown quite off. Not for lack of trying, mind you! If anything Ultron is downright pummeling with non-stop comic book melodrama. We'll let the man - excuse me, android - speak for himself... 'The Last Witch Hunter' Trailer: Vin Diesel Trades Furious Cars For Flaming Swords Posted: 30 Apr 2015 01:30 PM PDT Vin Diesel is a huge nerd. You may not be able to tell that based purely on the Fast & Furious franchise, but Diesel's got some serious geek credentials. He founded a video game company just to make games for his Pitch Black movies, and he not only grew up playing Dungeons & Dragons, but he still does as an adult, and better yet -- he taught Judi Dench how to play while they were filming The Chronicles of Riddick. So don't be so shocked to see the muscle car icon starring in a fantasy movie like The Last Witch Hunter, which has just revealed its first teaser trailer. The teaser doesn't dole out a whole ton of plot specifics, but as you can probably guess from the title, if you dabble in the dark arts, Vin Diesel is going to chop your... Movie News: Tom Hanks in First 'Inferno' Photos; 'Kingsman' Sequel Moves Forward Posted: 30 Apr 2015 12:00 PM PDT Inferno: Director Ron Howard has revealed the first on-set photos from Inferno, the latest in a series based on books by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones star; the dramatic thriller started production this week in Venice, Italy, and is scheduled for release on October 14, 2016. [Collider] Robotech: James Wan (Furious 7) is in "early discussions" to direct Robotech, the big-screen adaptation of a Japanese animated television series. The show revolved around "robotic technology found on a crashed alien starship that Earth used to fight off various alien invasions." Thanks to the gigantic box-office success of Furious 7, Wan is very much in demand, so it's by no means a certainty that he'll be available for this potential...
