Diane Sawyer Books Bruce Jenner for 2-Hour Interview April 24 Posted: Olympian and reality TV star Bruce Jenner has booked a two-hour interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer for later this month, the network announced Monday. Jenner, who has reportedly been undergoing treatment to transition into a woman, has been mum on the subject as rumors have swirled around him over the past few months. Though the network declined to provide specific details about Jenner and Sawyer's conversation, ABC did note that the interview would be "far-ranging and exclusive." Jenner recently separated from wife Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian family, and has appeared on every season of E!'s insanely popular reality series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." He was reportedly in the process of shooting his own companion series for E!, allegedly detailing his gender reassignment, though plans for that show have been kept under wraps in light of Jenner's involvement in a fatal car crash in Malibu, California in February. Sawyer's interview with Jenner, slated to run for two hours, will air during a special edition of "20/20" on April 24 at 9 p.m. on ABC. Prepare to Cry Over the 'Furious 7' Paul Walker Tribute Posted: WARNING: This post contains SPOILERS about the end of "Furious 7." In addition to raking in piles of cash over its opening weekend, "Furious 7" also included an emotional tribute to late star Paul Walker, some of which has surfaced online. Vin Diesel shared a new music video for "See You Again," the Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth collaboration that plays at the end of the film, writing on his Facebook page, "Pablo, this weekend you turned the world into a family... Thanks for the love..." The video includes a montage of scenes with Walker's character from throughout the series, as well as the actor's final moments in "Furious 7." The scene in question features Walker and Diesel racing down a freeway, sharing a knowing glance before diverging down two different paths. The dedication "For Paul" appears at the end of the clip. It's an emotional moment, and one longtime fans of the franchise may have a hard time watching without breaking down. Grab some tissues and prepare yourself before check it out. Note: The official "Fast & Furious" YouTube page has flagged the video as "Unlisted," and it appears embedding from Diesel's Facebook account has been disabled as well. You can check out the video directly on those sites here and here. We'll update this story with embedded video if either of those pages changes its posting policies. Michael Keaton Plays 'Batman' & 'Beetlejuice' With the 'SNL' Cast (VIDEO) Posted: Michael Keaton hosted "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, and while he was there ostensibly to promote his Oscar-nominated role in the Best Picture winner "Birdman," the actor was instead bombarded by requests from the cast the reprise two of his most iconic roles: Batman and Beetlejuice. During his monologue, Keaton was interrupted by Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan, who begged the actor to "play 'Batman' with us" and "play 'Beetlejuice' with us," citing their childhood love of those two '80s classics. The castmates broke into song to explain how much they idolized Keaton, and those movies in particular, as Keaton stammered and became more and more uncomfortable. Things escalate until Killam and Moynihan decide to just act out scenes from "Batman" and "Beetlejuice" themselves, hilariously dressing up as characters from each film (Killam as Catherine O'Hara in "Beetlejuice" was especially inspired) and editing Keaton into the clips. Jay Pharoah also periodically pops in as The Joker and Harry Belafonte, adding another clever visual gag to the proceedings. Check out the hilarious bit below, and enjoy having the "Will you play 'Batman' with us, Michael Keaton?" tune stuck in your head all day. Character Actor Tom Towles, Star of Horror Films, Dies at 65 Posted: Character actor Tom Towles, who starred in a number of horror films, including those produced by musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie, has died. He was 65. Zombie announced Towles's death on Facebook on Sunday, writing that he had just learned of the actor's passing. No details about Towles's death were made available. "He was such a great guy and I am so grateful that we got to work together several times," Zombie wrote on Facebook. "He will be really missed."
Towles and Zombie collaborated on several horror flicks, including "House of 1000 Corpses," "The Devil's Rejects," and the 2007 "Halloween" remake. The late actor also starred in "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer," "Night of the Living Dead," and "Grindhouse," among many other film roles. Towles was also known for prolific television work, including spots on "Seinfeld," "ER," "L.A. Law," "NYPD Blue," "Firefly," and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." All 7 'Fast and Furious' Movies, Ranked (VIDEO) Posted: It's been fourteen years since audiences were first introduced to the high octane adventures of Dom, Brian, Letty, and the rest of the Fast & Furious crew and the movies have only continued to embrace their adrenaline fueled absurdity and physics-defying stunts with each film. 5 Things to Look Forward to in 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Posted: The night may be dark and full of terrors, but -- thank the gods -- starting soon it will also be full of new "Game of Thrones" episodes. GoT Season 5 premieres Sunday, April 12 on HBO, and there are dozens of things we're excited to see from the mix of George R.R. Martin's books, "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons." Here are just five things we're looking forward to in the 10 episodes ahead. (No major book spoilers here, but several references and hints -- and anticipation of surprises when things are changed.) 1. Leadership Struggle at The Wall The Wall isn't normally a popular place to be, but it could get pretty crowded there in Season 5, with a leadership struggle to rival any in the Seven Kingdoms or across the Narrow Sea. They are a kingdom unto themselves up there, but now they have (King?) Stannis Baratheon, Melisandre, Jon Snow, Mance Rayder, Sam, Gilly, the surviving men of the Night's Watch, and the surviving wildlings trying to figure out how to survive in a world where The Others seem to be gaining strength. Can they all work on the same team to fight a common enemy? Crazy talk! The Night's Watch still needs to elect a new Lord Commander - and you know Stannis and Melisandre are going to want a say in that. If they follow the book on this, expect some very interesting political maneuvering from an unexpected source. Frank Underwood would be proud. 2. The Real Housewives of King's Landing The Wall may face a clash of kings, but things are really going to get tense when two women who want to be THE queen battle for control of The Iron Throne. Cersei Lannister is the queen regent and mother of King Tommen. Margaery Tyrell was married to King Joffrey and she's bethroned to Tommen; the Season 5 trailer shows the Margaery/Tommen nuptials, so she's about to be the queen. And considering her knack for PR, she could be a very popular one. Now that Tywin Lannister is gone as Hand of the King/official rug that tied the room together, Cersei will be even more grasping than usual to try to retain power. This is the Tyrell family's moment and we don't expect them to miss it. Don't expect Cersei's grief for her father or fight for more power to bring out the best in her, but by the end of the season she may have us running the gamut from loathing and disgust to schadenfreude and then something close to actual sympathy. Why? Let's just say Margaery isn't her only sparring partner this season, and there's someone out there operating on a much higher plane. 3. First Trip to Dorne Dorne is a place we've heard about for a long time but we'll finally get to see it in Season 5. The timing is perfect -- Dorne's Prince Oberyn Martell went to King Joffrey's wedding with a mind for revenge, and just about everything went wrong after that. Joffrey died, Oberyn was Tyrion Lannister's champion, and Oberyn just had a horrible death by the very man who raped and killed his sister, which launched the Martell/Lannister feud to begin with. Now we're about to see the fallout of Oberyn's death. Don't forget: Cersei's daughter, Myrcella is still down in Dorne, so how will they treat her? And have they heard the news that Tywin Lannister is dead? They, at least, should be thrilled about that, although we're expecting very different brain vs. brawn reactions from Oberyn's brother, Prince Doran Martell, and Oberyn's daughters, the "Sand Snakes." 4. Transformations for Arya and Sansa The Stark girls are no longer the Stark girls - not as we know them anyway. Sansa now has dark hair and a dark attitude -- Littlefinger may be rubbing off on her. (Sorry, that sounded creepy.) Actress Sophie Turner told Zap2it that, in Season 5, Sansa "has this whole new mentality to her and she's shed this innocent, vulnerable skin," adding, "She goes through a lot of hardships this season, but she approaches it very differently and it's really interesting to watch." No more naive little bird. "I hope people start to rally behind her and see her as a badass." Speaking of badass, Arya was last seen on a ship to Braavos, and we can expect a major transformation from her too. Actress Maisie Williams told the Guardian (via Huffington Post) there's a "big ending" for Arya. "It's the end of Arya, as far as anyone knows." But maybe not a death as much as a rebirth? 5. Tyrion on Team Dany? Did anyone else get chills watching the Season 5 trailer, when Varys made his speech to Tyrion? He said the Seven Kingdoms needs a ruler loved by millions with a powerful army and the right family name. Tyrion replied, "Good luck finding him." Varys countered, "Who said anything about 'him'?" Cut to Daenerys Targaryen! Chills. This is a slight twist on what we know from the book, so it'll be interesting to see if the trailer is just trying to hide the bigger spoiler or if Tyrion will be drafted for Team Dany. Why not? As Varys said, men of talent will have a part to play in the war ahead, and Tyrion has exactly the kind of shrewd, quick-thinking, manipulative but not too ruthless mind that Dany desperately needs in her entourage. Plus, Tyrion knows all about dragons. And Lannisters. And what it takes to get things done the *right* way in King's Landing. What do you think -- Dany on the Iron Throne, Tyrion back in his role as Hand of the King? We can see it. Maybe those pieces will be set in motion this season. At the very least, we're hoping their paths cross in some way. What are you most looking forward to in "Game of Thrones" Season 5? How 'Furious 7' Sped to a Record-Breaking Opening Weekend Posted: Attention merchants: You should have started stocking barbecue gear and beach balls in March because summer now officially starts before Easter. That's because "Furious 7" opened well beyond the wildest predictions, earning an estimated $143.6 million this weekend, not just setting a new April record but becoming the biggest debut in the history of Universal Pictures and the ninth-biggest opening weekend of all-time. In other words, the film has proved you can earn summer-blockbuster-sized numbers before March Madness is even finished. Sure, people expected "Furious 7" to do well -- it's a popular franchise, and it had no real competition this weekend. But predictions topped out around $110 to $120 million. But $144 million? What series on its seventh installment that doesn't involve teenage British wizards can command that kind of premiere? Now, of course, Hollywood will be scrambling to replicate the film's surprising success, but the studios won't really be able to, since many of the elements "Furious 7" had going for it were unique. They included: Momentum. Over 14 years, "The Fast and the Furious" is the rare franchise that's gotten only more popular with each installment (except for one misfire, the third movie, "Tokyo Drift"). Since Paul Walker and Vin Diesel returned to the franchise for the fourth film in 2009, each succeeding sequel has opened about 15 to 20 percent higher than the last. That popularity leads to bigger budgets for each succeeding installment, which means more spectacle and more stars, which in turn leads to an even more enthusiastic audience response. Timing. Easter is supposed to be a lackluster weekend for moviegoing, since many people have church and family gatherings to attend. Plus, there were college basketball semi-finals this weekend. Still, a lot of kids were out of school on Good Friday, and the movie also did well in sneak screenings on Thursday night. Besides, the conventional wisdom that leads studios to avoid programming major releases in early April left the field wide open for this franchise, which has done well at this time in past years. Weak competition. While there were no other new wide-release movies this weekend, "Furious 7" might have expected to face some competition for the young-adult male audience from last week's "Get Hard." Instead, the Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart comedy fell hard, dropping 62 percent from its debut and coming in third with an estimated $12.9 million. Second place was last weekend's unexpected family-film smash "Home," down a more modest 47 percent, to an estimated $27.4 million. But then, "Home" wasn't really going after the same audience. There should have been some overlap between "Furious 7" and "The Divergent Series: Insurgent," but that film, now in its third weekend, came in fifth with an estimated $10.0 million; it's dropping fast and proved not much of a threat to "Furious 7." Then there are last month's male-driven action thrillers "Run All Night" and "The Gunman." Neither earned more than $650,000 this weekend. Word-of-mouth. The movie's A grade at CinemaScore means word-of-mouth is about as strong as possible. Clearly, the movie is delivering everything fans wanted to see. Strong reviews. Not that this franchise is made to appeal to critics, but they like the film anyway. With a current 82 percent fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, the critical consensus is more positive for "Furious 7" than for any of the first six movies. The movie didn't need critics' help, but to the extent that Universal wanted to draw older audiences who read reviews, the thumbs-up didn't hurt. Four-quadrant appeal. Most action franchises appeal to just one quadrant: young men. But this one appeals to all four. According to studio polling, "Furious 7" ticketbuyers were almost evenly split between men and women (at 51 percent male) and between younger and older (56 percent were over 25). Why do women like the movie? Could be for the masculine eye candy on display, or it could be that Michelle Rodriguez is as much a part of the action as the guys are. Or it could be that women like adrenaline-pumping car chases as much as men do. Rainbow casting. Much has been written about the multi-racial casting of the series, not just in the make-up of the gang of adventurers, but even in the mixed-race backgrounds of individual performers (Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson). There's someone here for everyone to identify with, and that includes overseas audiences. This is one element of the franchise's success that you'd think other Hollywood blockbusters, with their eye on those lucrative foreign grosses, would be quick to emulate. Surprisingly, they are not. Big names. In addition to series regulars Walker, Diesel, Johnson, Rodriguez, and others, the series often introduces high-profile action actors as guest stars. After watching him stake out his own place in car-chase history in the "Transporter" movies, who wouldn't want to see how Jason Statham fares in the "Furious" universe? And Kurt Russell, of course, brings a long history of action cred to "Furious 7," from playing Snake Plissken in "Escape from New York" and "Escape from Los Angeles" to playing a psychopathic stunt driver in Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof." Of course, both newcomers help bring in older audiences (has anyone under 30 seen Russell's Snake Plissken movies?). Tragedy. Sadly, the biggest draw in "Furious 7" is morbid curiosity. Walker's death in 2013 in a real-life car crash seemed all too on-the-nose. He'd shot many of his "Furious 7" scenes, but the movie had to be drastically retooled to write his death into the story. The process took an extra year, building anticipation for the film even more. The analogy many pundits have drawn is with Heath Ledger's unexpected death a few months before the release of "The Dark Knight" in 2008, which only added to expectations for the movie and helped blast it into the box-office stratosphere when it was finally released. That seems to have happened with "Furious 7," which, by all accounts, has been transformed into a poignant and worthy tribute to Walker; as the CinemaScore grade suggests, fans seem to be satisfied with the way the filmmakers bid Walker adieu. But even casual fans and rubberneckers are curious to see how the movie handle's Walker's demise. Of course, Walker's death also led the studio to hint that the franchise won't be able to continue without him, meaning that "Furious 7" would be the last installment -- which also makes people want to see it in theaters while they can. Though, if you really think Universal will stop making these movies after a $144 million premiere, you probably also believe in the Easter Bunny.
