The Alamo Drafthouse's Latest Movie Stunt Will Send You to Area 51 Posted: 28 Apr 2015 09:30 PM PDT The Alamo Drafthouse is known for being a bit weird when it comes to movies. For starters, they do silly things like not show ads in front of movies. They also have this strange thing where they care about the quality of projection and have a no talking policy that's actually enforced. Oh, did we say weird? We meant awesome. But while the Drafthouse does take the sacred act of going to a movie theater seriously, they're also not afraid to have some fun with it. Take, for example, they're latest contest to promote the movies Area 51 and Drunk Wedding. Both are playing exclusively at Drafthouse theaters in May, but since just seeing a movie isn't a unique enough experience, the Drafthouse wants to send a lucky couple to Las Vegas to get married, followed by a... Posted: 28 Apr 2015 06:30 PM PDT Pop quiz: What do the utterly delightful and whimsical Paddington, the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter, and the brutal, bone-crunching cannibalism movie Ravenous all have in common? Producer David Heyman. Most would know Heyman for being the producer who plucked Harry Potter from relative obscurity and brought it to the big screen, in turning making him one of the most important movie producers of the last 20 years. But did you know that were it not for Ravenous, it's possible the Harry Potter movies, as we know them at least, would have never happened? We spoke to Heyman recently ahead of today's home video release of Paddington (read the first part of that interview here), and that's when a shared love for Ravenous revealed the chain of... Remember 'Lord of the Rings' Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie With Five of His Best Shots Posted: 28 Apr 2015 05:00 PM PDT When Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy concluded last year, one thing above all that could be said for the three movies is they're absolutely gorgeous. That was a consistent exemption applied to Jackson's work over the past decade, actually. Whatever you think overall of King Kong, The Lovely Bones or that second Tolkien set, you have to admit they all feature extraordinary visuals. We have Australian cinematographer Andrew Lesnie to thank for those prevailing images, the specific likes of which we will sadly never see again. Yesterday, Lesnie died suddenly of a heart attack. While best known for his collaborations with Jackson, particularly his Oscar-winning work on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the...
