These Original Real Housewives Have Stood the Test of Reality Time Posted: In the world of reality TV, nothing stays the same for long. The stakes need to be raised, drama heightened, and fresh sources of conflict added to the mix. Nowhere is this spirit of reinvention more alive than in Bravo's "Real Housewives" franchise. And when we say reinvention, we of course mean recasting -- because sometimes the only way to fix a flailing show is to infuse it with new, claws-out, drama-queen blood. But then there are the precious few who stay, season after season, either because Bravo has anointed them the chosen ones or fans just can't get enough. The list of original Housewives still on their respective shows is a short yet complicated one, some stars leaving, some leaving then returning, and some being demoted to "friend of the Housewives" status. And while it seems that Housewives come and go every time the wind blows, we did do our best to make this list of original cast members still on their shows as current and complete as possible. (We look forward to it being outdated as soon as Bravo sends out a press release.) Bethenny Frankel Bethenny's back! The NYC OG makes a triumphant return to Season 7 of "Real Housewives of New York City" tonight, and from the looks of things, the SkinnyGirl tycoon is going to spice things up. Frankel left for other pursuits -- including her own series with ex-husband Jason, "Bethenny Ever After" and her own short-lived talk-show -- but it appears she just can't kick that housewife life. (Except she's not technically a housewife, but that never stopped her before.) Vicki Gunvalson ('The Real Housewives of Orange County') Ah, Vicki. RHOC is the original and longest-running of the Housewives franchise, and Vicki is its only remaining Season 1 star. From her drunken "woohoos" to her boredom-induced snoring fits, year over year, she's never let us down. Just don't ask her about Brooks. Never ask her about Brooks. Ramona Singer ('The Real Housewives of New York') Over the years, we've come to rely on Ramona saying and doing wildly inappropriate things (Turtle Time!), always with a glass of Ramona Pinot in hand. Her complete and utter lack of filter and under-appreciated talent at inventing storylines has kept her in the game for six seasons, and we have a hard time imagining RHONY without her. We can't wait to see her in action when the show returns. LuAnn de Lesseps ('The Real Housewives of New York') OK, so technically LuAnn was demoted to "Friend of the Housewives" status at one point, but the fact that she has appeared in nearly every single episode of Season 6 and she's returning to Season 7 surely qualifies her for this list. Our love for The Countess has ebbed and flowed over the years, but last season it was in full bloom. She isn't taking any crap from anyone and she's eschewing the prim-and-proper for honest candor, and we''re so excited to see this LuAnn back. NeNe Leakes ('The Real Housewives of Atlanta') The ATL is nothing without NeNe. Sure, there've been plenty of times when she's let her ego get the best of her (ahem, Trump checks), but that's part of her appeal, just like her biting one-liners, eye rolls, and ability to scare Kenya Moore into a corner. #NeNe4eva Dina Manzo ('The Real Housewives of New Jersey') After a three-season absence, Dina came back! After having starred in Seasons 1 & 2, Dina left to do her own thing, which included her own show on HGTV. Since that didn't really pan out, she's going back to her roots. When Caroline opted out of Season 6, Dina did her best to fill her sister's mama bear-sized, judgmental shoes. Kim Richards ('The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills') Kim, of "Escape to Witch Mountain" fame, has been through a lot during her tenure on RHOBH: rehab, intense feuding with sister Kyle, a dysfunctional romance, and, of course, a nose job. So it stands to reason that she's stuck through every season. Does her behavior sometimes raise a question mark? Yes. But there's never dull moment with squirrel-feeding, dog-loving, unconventional blouse-wearing Kim. Kyle Richards ('Real Housewives of Beverly Hills') Kyle, like her sister, is an actress. Her credits -- aside from her role in RHOBH -- include "The Watcher in the Woods" and "Halloween." Impressive, right? What's more impressive is how long we've been subjected to the ins and outs of her relationship with fellow RHOBH lifer Lisa Vanderpump. While the frenemy storyline is wearing thin, Kyle's family is adorable, and we can always count on her White Party turning into a tornado of trash talking and/or awkwardness. And hair whipping, as illustrated above. Lisa Vanderpump ('Real Housewives of Beverly Hills') All hail The Queen of Beverly! Along with her diehard fans, Lisa has her fair share of haters -- some of whom star alongside her on RHOBH. Whether you believe her to be the chess master that Kyle, Kim, and Brandi Glanville claim her to be (checkmate, bitch!), no one keeps the drama alive more than Lisa. You also have to respect the fact that she's the only one of the Beverly Hills Housewives to land herself a spinoff, which is basically a weekly, hour-long commercial for her restaurants. That's a smart businesswoman. Camille Grammer & Adrienne Maloof ('The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills') These ladies are lumped together due to the unique circumstances in which they are placed in this list. You see, Adrienne dropped out of Season 4 entirely, and Camille hasn't been a fulltime Housewife since Season 2. Well, both made appearances in Season 5 with the other ladies, filling the void left by fired one-season-wonders Carlton Gebbia and Joyce Giraud de Ohoven. Adriana de Moura, Alexia Echevarria, & Lea Black ('The Real Housewives of Miami') OK, admittedly we don't watch RHOM and therefore don't know much about it. What we do know is that Alexia left after Season 1 and came back for Season 3, and some people have opinions about that. We're also sad that Marysol Patten was demoted to Friend status in Season 3 and may no longer be on the show; her mom, Mama Elsa (pictured), may be the most fascinating person on the planet. Also, does anyone know if this show has been canceled yet? Bravo has yet to say one way or the other. Shout out to RealityTVGIFS for a lot of the GIFs above. Top photo via Getty Images. Steep Fines Greet Gawkers at George Clooney's Italian Villa Posted: Gawking at George Clooney is now a crime in Laglio, Italy, where the Oscar winner owns a villa on Lake Como. Laglio mayor Roberto Pozzi told the Associated Press that he's issued an ordinance to raise fines to as much as 500 euros (about $550 USD) "for those who create 'problems of public order' when gathering to gawk on the main road behind the villa or approach by boat closer than 100 meters (110 yards) offshore." According to Pozzi, the fines, now five times higher than they were in the past, are in place to ensure Clooney and his new bride, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, privacy when they visit Laglio. Clooney and Alamuddin haven't been to the villa since their September wedding in Venice, Pozzi told the AP. And according to the mayor, townspeople and tourists have generally been very respectful of the celeb's privacy in the past. Per the AP:
And if you're visiting Laglio in the off-season, you have a better chance of snagging a fine-free photo (sans Clooney, anyway): The ordinances run through September, covering only the spring and summer period when the actor typically visits the villa. 'Human Centipede 3' Has a Release Date and (Disgusting) Synopsis Posted: Just when you thought you were safe from the disgusting premise of "The Human Centipede" comes word that the third -- and final -- installment in the gross-out horror franchise has a release date and synopsis ready for you to digest. Entertainment Weekly reports that "Human Centipede Part 3 (Final Sequence)" is set to debut in theaters and on VOD on May 22. Writer-director Tom Six is back for the last round, as are stars Dieter Laser (from the first flick) and Laurence R. Harvey (from "The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)"). Actor Eric Roberts will make his franchise debut in "Final Sequence." Six told EW that this last "Centipede" film is "100 percent politically incorrect," and based on the official synopsis, that boast seems 100 percent right. Here's the lowdown, per EW:
If the idea of a 500-person centipede coupled with meta references to the first two flicks floats your boat, then you're in luck. Look for "Human Centipede Part 3 (Final Sequence)" this May. Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund Returning for 'Tron 3' Posted: The long-gestating sequel to "Tron: Legacy" is a go, with original stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund set to reprise their roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilde will return as algorithm-in-human-form Quorra, while Hedlund will once again play Sam, the son of Jeff Bridges's character from the 1982 original "Tron." Director Joseph Kosinski will also return for "Tron 3," THR writes. No details about the film's plot are available so far. Production is expected to start sometime this fall, possibly in Vancouver, though that schedule currently depends on Wilde and Hedlund's availability. (Hedlund will be busy promoting his role as Hook in "Pan.") "Tron: Legacy" pulled in $400 million at the worldwide box office after its 2010 debut. Disney is no doubt banking on "Tron 3" to do the same. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
17 More Episodes of 'Arrested Development' Are in the Works (VIDEO) Posted: It's been almost two years since Netflix revived canceled-too-soon series "Arrested Development" for the show's first new episodes since 2006. Now, executive producer Brian Grazer has announced that even more installments of the cult comedy are indeed in the works. In an interview on Bill Simmons's Grantland podcast, Grazer was discussing the success of Fox series "Empire," which he co-produces with Ron Howard through their Imagine Entertainment company. Simmons asked Grazer which series he worked on had a larger cultural impact, "Empire" or "24" (yet another Fox hit), and Grazer mentioned that despite its low ratings, he always thought of "Arrested Development" as a cultural touchstone, especially with young fans. "I love 'Arrested Development,' but it was never a huge (money-maker)," Grazer told Simmons. "But people are loyal to it, and we're going to do another 17 episodes. So stay tuned for 'Arrested Development.'" The conversation about the show ended there, but what little was shared is important enough, especially coming from a source as high on the "AD" food chain as Grazer. It's long been hinted at that Netflix wants to make more episodes, but no specific details about a possible season five have materialized until now. Here's hoping Grazer's promise comes to fruition soon. Check out Simmons's interview with Grazer below. (The "Arrested" talk happens around the 24:20 mark.) Veteran Actor James Best, 'Dukes of Hazzard' Sheriff, Dies at 88 Posted: Prolific film and television actor James Best, who played the iconic role of Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane on classic series "The Dukes of Hazzard," has died of complications from pneumonia. He was 88. Best portrayed Coltrane on "Dukes" from 1979 through 1985, and remained active in the "Dukes" fan community, appearing at multiple reunions and festivals in the years since the show's conclusion. Aside from that memorable role, Best starred in hundreds of episodes of television series, including "The Twilight Zone," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Gunsmoke." He also had a busy film career, working both in front of and behind the camera on movies such as "Winchester '73," "Sounder," and "The Left-Handed Gun." In addition to his passion for acting, Best was also a devoted dog lover. His family has asked fans to make donations to their local humane society in his name in lieu of sending flowers. "He was a fine actor, director and mentor, and an even better friend," said Tom Wopat, who starred as Luke Duke on "Hazzard," in a statement. "He will be greatly missed." Best is survived by his wife, Dorothy, three children, and three grandchildren. [via: JamesBest.com] Photo credit: G. This 'Sinister 2' Teaser Features a Creepy Warning (VIDEO) Posted: The sequel to 2012 horror hit "Sinister" just released a new teaser, and what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in creepiness. The short clip features an ominous warning delivered by a young boy, who says, "Tell anyone, and they'll kill you and your whole family." Who "they" are is unclear, but based on all the screaming that ensues, it doesn't look like anyone should mess with them. The film stars Shannyn Sossaman ("A Knight's Tale") as a young mother who moves into a rural home with her twin sons. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the most welcoming environment. (We're getting a serious "Children of the Corn" vibe from some of the neighbors.) "Sinister 2" hits theaters on August 21. Dancing With the Stars Recap: Emotional Stories and Dances for 'Most Memorable Year' Posted: Hey dance fans, "Dancing with the Stars" is back, and the incredibly high level of competition is maintained another week. Add to that this week, the emotional highs and lows as the contestants share their most memorable years and heartbreaking stories. The choice of year for each dancer isn't too surprising, and we get to hear the personal stories of the year the contestants became who we know them to be. Apparently, our hearts aren't the only things breaking this week, as we're treated to some insane footage of injuries and mishaps sustained during rehearsals. Noah lost his tooth because Sharna accidentally kicked him in the face! Hasn't he suffered enough? I'm surprised they don't show those moments again later, since most other reality shows tend to play horrific falls over and over, but I also really appreciate that they don't. It's not what this show is about. There's a slight format change this week, as Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews reveal the results slowly as the night goes on. The first couple in jeopardy is Michael and Peta, followed by Riker and Allison, and lastly Willow and Mark. I'm so surprised (and frankly a little annoyed) by this outcome, since the weak link definitely seems to be Chris, but he's safe. Riker and Willow are both in the bottom? They're both incredible, strong dancers. But this show has never really been about the strongest, most technical, or best dancer. I guess I have to make a point to vote. I'll start by voting here for My Top 5: Nastia & Derek's Argentine Tango: It's obvious before they start moving that this is going to be amazing-and one of my favorite dances of the night. It's Nastia and Derek, and it's Argentine tango! Of course I love it! She is so stunning, and he's strong and sexy. The choreography is complex and exciting, from her carefully stepping on his feet, to the beautiful milonga steps, to the super fast grapevines. And those lifts are insane. He's swinging her around like a rag doll, except she has too much control to be a rag doll. I have to admit, as incredible as it is, I would have liked maybe one or two fewer lifts in exchange for a little more tango. Perhaps that's similar to what Len was saying about the dance being too athletic with not enough character. Regardless, we still have our first 10 of the season. Score: 36 Riker & Allison's Tango: It's astounding that Riker and Allison are in jeopardy, because he is really great. This tango is so sharp and clean-but the song is definitely not a tango. I appreciate Bruno pointing that out for a change; it's frequent on this show that the music doesn't match the dance they're doing, especially when it comes to tangos and paso dobles. I love this song, but it overpowers the dance, because it has such a fun, playful beat, and because at this point, I can't help but think of this awesome video. But Riker is terrific, and loves what he's doing. I agree with Len that it's a bit hectic, and I can see what Julianne says about them being too close together, because it does look slightly like they're tripping each other up. The skirt doesn't help in that regard either. But Allison has the most incredible, muscular legs. Wow. Score: 34 Rumer & Val's Waltz: I don't always agree with Len, because I often find him old fashioned and grouchy. But in this case, I totally understand where he's coming from, because this song is NOT A WALTZ! I found it immensely difficult to focus on the dance because they're trying so hard to shoehorn a waltz into this four/four music, and it just doesn't work. It annoys me too, because unlike tango or paso doble, there are plenty of pop songs that are waltzes, so there's no need to settle for one that isn't. I absolutely appreciate the dance for what it is, once I could finally concentrate on it (the third or fourth time through), and I love the anti-bullying message (at least as it's described in the package). Rumer is a beautiful dancer, with gorgeous lines and such passion. There are a couple of mistakes though; she loses her balance slightly, and Val somehow trips on the death drop. But it is a beautiful routine, exquisitely danced. Interesting to see her mom Demi in the audience, as well as Glenn Close behind her. Score: 35 Willow & Mark's Contemporary: This is so amazing. It's pretty clear, and totally understandable, that Willow's most memorable year is the year she was cast in The Hunger Games. I absolutely adore both the books and the movies, and I love Mark's recreation of it as well. This routine is so exciting, from those first three low, syncopated runs off the pedestals, to the overhead shot of the circle, which makes me want them to do English longsword dancing. It's perhaps a bit on the nose in terms of concept, and there's an awful lot happening with lots of extra dancers. But who cares, because it's Just So Cool! The choreography is complicated and awesome, and really captures the style and mood of the films (the visual effects guys certainly have fun too). There's a thin line between dancing and fighting, and you can see that here in a really exciting way. They get a "killer" score too, with three 10s. Score: 39 Noah & Sharna's Contemporary: Oh my goodness. Noah's story is so heart-wrenching, yet totally inspiring, and his dancing is as well. Of course his most memorable year is when he lost his left arm and leg to a roadside bomb while on his second deployment in Iraq. What an amazing journey he's had. It's truly phenomenal, and so sad. The routine is gorgeous, moving, with very difficult steps and lifts. I really love both Julianne's and Carrie Ann's comments, especially the latter comparing him to a haiku: "with very few words, you say something very profound." Score: 32 The Rest: Michael & Peta's Rumba: I appreciate Michael's story so much. It's touching and sad, and he's been through a lot, from his brother's death from a gunshot wound to his father's continuing disapproval. This rumba is lovely, and he definitely shows vulnerability, as the judges point out. He has beautiful, strong lines, but he still looks a tiny bit awkward, carefully placing his body in poses instead of flowing into them. But I absolutely admire his strength and courage. Score: 30 Robert & Kym's Waltz: Robert dances a lovely waltz dedicated to his mother, who passed away from cancer in 2006. He looks dashing in his white tux, and Kym's choreography is classic and pretty. He has beautiful lines and a good frame, and the dance is clean. I'm not sure where his hands are in that first waltzing pass, but I'll overlook that. And I laughed when Erin called Kym "Peaches and Cream Barbie." Score: 34 Chris & Witney's Rumba: Not surprisingly, Chris's most memorable year was last year, when he became The Bachelor and met his now fiancé, Whitney. Those kinds of fast changes would be extremely memorable. I'm not a fan of the show, and in fact I can get pretty cynical about it, but it would be lovely if Whitney really is the love of his life. As for this rumba, it's actually very pretty, especially as it goes on. Special guest star Gavin James's song is sweet, and Chris uses the music well. He does need to watch his shoulders, and Julianne is absolutely right that he needs to stretch through those lines, rather than stopping short. But I like it more than the judges do, and find it beautiful. The audience seems to agree with me; they do not like those scores. Score: 27 Patti & Artem's Jazz: Patti commemorates 1973, the year her son is born, with a fun jazz number to one of her early songs. The routine is cute and entertaining, channeling a little Alvin Ailey Revelations in the beginning, but then throwing in Charleston, jazz squares, and other jazzy steps. The steps aren't quite as basic as the Patti shuffle, as she calls it herself, but I'd still like more. It's starting to feel like the same thing over and over again. She's entertaining, and it's lot of fun, but that's about it. Score: 30 Suzanne & Tony's Fox-Trot: Suzanne and Tony recreate a bit from Three's Company to celebrate the year Suzanne was cast in the role, and bid adieu to the talented John Ritter. She is really lovely, and so smart-certainly smarter than Chrissy Snow. It's such a shame she's trapped in such a silly character all her life. I didn't think this fox-trot has the depth Carrie Ann is looking for, because it's still a pretty light, fluffy routine, but Carrie Ann likes it a lot. It's a sweet, classic fox-trot (though not really fox-trot music), and Suzanne looks good doing it. Score: 28 At this point, I'm nervous about the final results, because it's ludicrous for Willow and Riker to be in the bottom three. But fortunately, the final result is the correct one, and Michael Sam is sent home. It's sad, and I'd have preferred he stay longer, but not at the expense of Riker and Willow. How about you? Are you surprised by the result? Which are your favorite dances this week? Who do you think will go home next? And are you excited for the return of Disney Night next week? Christoph Waltz Claims He's Not Playing Blofeld in 'Spectre' Posted: The team behind the newest James Bond flick, "Spectre," can insist all they want that Christoph Waltz is not playing classic villain Blofeld, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from thinking that that's just a ruse. Now, Waltz himself is doubling down on the denial. In an interview with GQ UK, Waltz was asked point-blank whether his character is actually Blofeld, and the Oscar winner didn't mince words with his response. "That is absolutely untrue," Waltz told the magazine. "That rumour started on the Internet, and the Internet is a pest. The name of my character is Franz Oberhauser." So there you have it: Waltz is definitely not playing Blofeld. Or is he? Despite Waltz and co.'s vehement denials, it seems that this rumor just won't die, and there's good reason. The Bond team has played similar tricks in the past, claiming that Naomie Harris wasn't playing Moneypenny in "Skyfall." And then there's the example set by Benedict Cumberbatch, who also repeatedly denied that he would be playing Khan in 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness," then wound up portraying that very villain in the flick. We'd like to take Waltz at his word, but we admit we're reserving judgement on this rumor until "Spectre" debuts. It's due in theaters on November 6. Nina Dobrev Is Leaving 'The Vampire Diaries' After Season 6 Posted: Nina Dobrev, star of The CW's onetime flagship series, "The Vampire Diaries," is leaving the show after its current sixth season ends. The actress made the announcement in a long, heartfelt post on her Instagram account Monday, revealing that a recent celebration with the "TVD" cast and crew in Georgia was actually a goodbye party. "I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six-season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," Dobrev wrote. "I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever." Dobrev went on to explain that there was much more excitement for her character, Elena, in store before the season finale. The actress also thanked her fans for their support, and invited viewers to "join me as I celebrate [Elena] and prepare to say goodbye to her - and to my work family - as I move on to the next chapter of my life." "Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec released a statement in response to Dobrev's announcement, noting that the actress's departure was "both bittersweet and beautiful." "After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of 'The Vampire Diaries' has reached a level of closeness that I don't think any of us ever expected," Plec's statement continued. "Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold. We will miss Nina and the 400 characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble." Dobrev isn't the only "TVD" star exiting the series. Steven R. McQueen, who played Elena's brother, Jeremy, left the show in March, and Michael Trevino, who recently shot a pilot for ABC, is also expected to depart at the end of the season. Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. How would Jon Snow behave at a dinner party? Watch and see. "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" Monday night, so Seth set up an SNL-style sketch called "Seth brings Jon Snow to a dinner party." In the 5-minute video, you see Seth with his NYC friends, then Jon in full Night's Watch attire. Turns out, he knows nothing about being a good dinner party guest. Or maybe it's everyone else who has it wrong. After all, winter is always coming. Eventually. If only Seth had invited Debbie Downer, she and Jon would really hit it off. Stay to the end, it's really hilarious. Kit also talked, as himself, about GoT. He said he only read his own scenes for the new season. He usually reads the whole script but this time he wants to see what the hype is about. Kat Dennings, Michael Douglas, and Jon Cryer played charades with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show." Jimmy and Kat were partners against Jon and Michael. (Side note: How do we feel about Jon's shaved head?) In his own interview, Michael talked about how he had "a little mess" on his pants before his first appearance on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" 44 years ago. He was so nervous backstage and had a little pit stop before going out to talk to Carson. When he came out, he was told about his visible whatnot downstairs, so someone had to blow-dry his crotch before he went out. Backstage, Kat shared her worst audition story. She tested for a movie that later won Oscars. She auditioned for the daughter role and she had to hysterically cry in her father's arms. But the actor playing her father stayed across the room the whole time and she had to pretend to be restrained. That famous actor was later fired from the role, but Kat didn't get the daughter part. On "The Late Late Show," Jordana Brewster, Dave Grohl, and Rainn Wilson talked to James Corden about their Easters and various bands. They also did sketches of Jonathan, a nude older model. Just go with it. "Mike & Molly" star Billy Gardell was on "Conan," and he said when he learned he got the TV show job he was doing stand-up comedy in the basement of a strip club with only $7.18 to his name. "Barely Famous" stars Erin and Sara Foster were also on "Conan" talking about disastrous dates and passive-aggressive parking tickets.
