Ranked: Every Major 'Fast & Furious' Character Posted: 02 Apr 2015 11:00 PM PDT Over 14 years and seven films, the Fast and Furious franchise has grown from a car-centric Point Break rip-off into a certifiably insane saga of epic bromances, globe-trotting adventure and, of course, a treatise on the power of (say it with us now) family. The series' increasingly complex mythology and continuity has led to a massive ensemble of characters returning for every film, with later entries reaching into the past and bringing back familiar faces in unexpected ways. So you know what this means: it's time to rank the characters from the Fast and Furious series. Since ranking every single character to appear in all of these movies would be a foolhardy task, we've established one key parameter. In order to qualify for this list, a character has to have appeared... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
DVD Obscura: The New Indie and International Movies You Need to Watch Posted: 02 Apr 2015 10:30 PM PDT New Indie: TV stars often turn to indie cinema to play more substantial roles, in different genres, than they’re called upon to perform on a weekly basis. Making the most of Life Partners (Magnolia Home Entertainment) are Leighton Meester (who knew she could be funny?) and Gillian Jacobs, who star as lifelong pals whose friendship hits a bump when one of them falls in love. The fact that one of them (Meester as Sasha) happens to be a lesbian is beside the point. Meester and Jacobs make very convincing pals, and their comedic interplay is a real treat. Add on an impressive supporting ensemble that includes Adam Brody, Gabourey Sidibe, Abby Elliott and Mark Feuerstein, and you’ve got a charming comedy that didn’t get enough love in theaters last year; if you missed... Today in Movie Culture: Chocolate Benedict Cumberbatch, 'The Matrix' vs. 'The Lego Movie' and More Posted: 02 Apr 2015 09:15 PM PDT Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture: Just in time for Easter, there's a life-size Benedict Cumberbatch made of chocolate (via Geek Tyrant): Makeup artist Promise Phan showed that she can look like 15 different Disney characters, including Princess, villains and more. Here she is as Elsa from Frozen. See the rest of her magic at Buzzfeed. Speaking of Frozen, DreamWorks animator Fernanda Abarca opened a cupcake shop, and of course she's selling finely detailed treats with your favorite characters on top. But she's not studio loyal, as you can see here (via Design Taxi): While you wait for Tron 3 to come out, you can pick up this Tron: Legacy lightcycle replica, which actually... 'Winnie the Pooh' To Also Get Blasted by Disney's Live-Action Ray Gun Posted: 02 Apr 2015 05:22 PM PDT Okay Disney, now you're just showing off how many valuable properties you own. It hasn't even been a full 48 hours since we learned that Disney was adding one more movie to its live-action remake of animated classics (Mulan, in case you missed the news), and here we are again with word of yet another animated property getting the live-action upgrade. This time it's Winnie the Pooh. The mouse house has tapped indie director Alex Ross Perry (Listen up Philip) to write the project, which will focus on Christopher Robin as a grown-up as he rediscovers the wonder of Pooh and all his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. So this new Winnie the Pooh won't be quite as much of a straight forward remake as their recent hit Cinderella redo, so we're a tad more curious to... New 'The Ring' Sequel Lures in a 'Big Bang Theory' Star Posted: 02 Apr 2015 03:20 PM PDT For nearly a decade now Johnny Galecki has played the pushover nerd Leonard Hofstadter on The Big Bang Theory, the most popular show on American television, with an average of some 23 million people watching each new episode in 2014. And if those 23 million people only know Galecki as the bespectacled, soft-hearted dork on the show, then they may be a bit surprised when he shows up in Rings, the second sequel to the 2002 hit horror movie The Ring. We don't really know yet how the story of a video cassette tape whose images tag a viewer with a death clock is going to be updated into the year 2015, when nobody actually watches VHS tapes any more, but we do at least know that Galecki will be playing a suave, "pleasure-seeking professor" who is also a... Watch: This New 'Poltergeist' Trailer Already Knows What Scares You Posted: 02 Apr 2015 01:30 PM PDT Not long ago Sam Rockwell, who plays the dad in the upcoming Poltergeist remake, revealed that the new version was "more of a kids' movie." This was a red flag for a lot of fans who thought it meant the movie wouldn't be scary, so we promptly reminded everyone that it wasn't necessarily a bad idea. But if you're still convinced it means the movie is doomed, maybe this new trailer will settle your nerves a bit. Director Gil Kenan told USA Today that "The film is super scary. And it's scary on its own terms." And while we assume that means this new take on the story of a family living in a house at the epicenter of a gateway to the Other Side will have plenty of original ideas up its sleeve, we can't forget... Posted: 02 Apr 2015 12:00 PM PDT Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk: Kristen Stewart (above in Still Alice) is in negotiations to star in Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, a drama to be directed by Ang Lee. Joe Alwyn will star, with Steve Martin and Garrett Hedlund set for supporting roles. The movie revolves around a U.S. soldier and his team who return home in 2005 for a celebratory tour before returning to warfare in Iraq. Stewart would play the titular character's older sister. [The Wrap] Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates: Anna Kendrick (above in The Voices) will join Zac Efron in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. The comedy follows two "hard partying and immature brothers" who place an ad to secure their dates for a very special day; Kendrick will star as Efron's date...
