Ellen Pompeo Speaks Out About That 'Grey's Anatomy' Twist Posted: WARNING: The following post contains SPOILERS about last Thursday's episode of "Grey's Anatomy." "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo is speaking out for the first time following last Thursday's shocking installment of the long-running ABC series. The episode in question featured the death of Pompeo's onscreen husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), who was struck by a truck and succumbed to his injuries at an ill-equipped hospital. Pompeo's character, Meredith Grey, makes the decision to take him off of life support after it becomes clear that Derek has suffered irreversible brain damage. On Monday, Pompeo released a statement on Twitter about the game-changing storyline, and what it means for Meredith moving forward. Her character is now a widowed mother of two young children, and Pompeo indicated that dealing with Meredith's grief following such tragedy would become an integral part of the series -- and she was taking inspiration from real-life struggles faced by others. "There are so many people out there who have suffered tremendous loss and tragedy. ... People who get up each day and do what feels like the impossible," Pompeo wrote. " ... So it is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible. I hope you will join me on her journey." Check out the actress's full statement below. Jack Nicholson's Reaction to Jared Leto's Joker Is Pretty Much Perfect Posted: So, has Jack Nicholson seen Jared Leto's rendering of The Joker? Maybe. If he has, does he have a strong opinion about it? Probably. But it's likely we'll never hear it because Nicholson is a reclusive guy who rarely speaks to the press. Luckily for us, intrepid YouTuber Toniemcee has perfectly captured Nicholson's would-be reaction to Leto's tatted-up, "Suicide Squad" version of Batman's most iconic villain. And it's spot on. This 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 3 Poster Is Heavenly Posted: Netflix has released the first poster for season three of "Orange Is the New Black," and it's nothing short of heavenly. The one-sheet features images of Daya (Dascha Polanco), Alex (Laura Prepon), Piper (Taylor Schilling), Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), and Red (Kate Mulgrew) plastered on prayer candles, made to look angelic and beatific. Each woman's candle features iconography associated with the inmates, including a rattle symbolizing Daya's pregnancy -- and the impending birth of her child -- and the yogurt and nail polish that Red loves so much, while also throwing in some religious symbolism with the tagline, "The Third Coming." The striking poster implies that Daya's storyline will really come into the forefront this season, and Alex -- who was mostly absent from season two -- will also be a prominent part of the proceedings. Check out the full poster below, and light your own metaphoric candle in preparation for "Orange"'s return. Season three of "Orange Is the New Black" debuts on Netflix on June 12. Lifetime Is Making 'The Unauthorized Full House Story' Movie Posted: Like "Saved By the Bell" before it, Lifetime is targeting another beloved sitcom for a behind-the-scenes movie: "Full House." The Hollywood Reporter writes that the network is currently working on "The Unauthorized Full House Story," which will focus on the men, women, and children who made up the cast of the wildly popular TGIF staple. Per THR:
The same team behind "The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" is penning the "Full House Story" script, and Lifetime is currently casting the flick. No premiere date has been announced yet. "Full House" is undergoing a renaissance as of late, as it's also slated for a revival on Netflix. "Fuller House" will follow grown-up D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) as they raise their own children; Stamos is also set to appear, while the rest of the cast is in negotiations. Vin Diesel Announces 'Furious 8' to Debut on April 14, 2017 Posted: It seemed like a no-brainer, and now Vin Diesel has made it official: "Furious 8" is happening, and it already has a release date. Speaking at Universal's CinemaCon panel last week, the "Furious 7" star revealed that a sequel was already in the works, and would debut on April 14, 2017. "Furious 7," the last flick in the franchise to star the late Paul Walker, has already raced past the $1 billion mark at the international box office (the fastest movie to ever claim that feat), making a sequel seemingly inevitable. Walker weighed heavily on Diesel's mind during the CinemaCon panel, with Diesel explaining that he wanted to make his late friend proud as the series moved forward. "I swear to you and to my brother upstairs [Walker], we are going to make the best movie you've ever seen," Diesel said Thursday. "Furious 7" has already amassed $1.32 billion in profits since its April 3 release, surpassing "Frozen" to claim the number five slot on the list of all-time international box office earnings. Mark Ruffalo on 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' Forbidden Love, and Embracing the Hulk (EXCLUSIVE) Posted: When Marvel's "The Avengers" was released in 2012, one of the bigger question marks was: how was Mark Ruffalo, an actor known for his proclivity for esoteric indies, going to fare stepping into a giant franchise like this? (Especially since, we shouldn't forget, he was the third actor to inhabit the role in the past decade.) Of course, we all now know that Ruffalo, performing not only the human side of Bruce Banner but the motion capture role of The Hulk as well, would handily be the highlight of the entire movie, stealing every scene he was in and even generating an internet-sweeping meme centered around his bromance with Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark. In "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the ridiculously anticipated (and ridiculously wonderful) sequel, Ruffalo returns as both Bruce Banner and the Hulk and this time he does more than just brood and get really angry. That's right folks -- Bruce Banner is in love. And with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) no less! Oh, and he and Tony are also responsible for creating the malevolent robot Ultron (James Spader) who has grand plans to take over the world. But the Black Widow romance is probably more serious! We got on the phone with Ruffalo to talked about all of these new developments in Banner's life, his new ownership of the character, working on the performance capture for the Hulk with a veteran of the technology, Andy Serkis (who pioneered its usage with characters like Gollum and Caesar), and what it was like when he tried his own Doritos flavor. Moviefone: Bruce has so much more to do in this movie. What was your first reaction when you read the script? Mark Ruffalo: I was thrilled. To be honest with you, I got to the part where you saw Banner really vulnerable. In the scene where Banner may or may not be embarking on another Avenger who may or may not be Black Widow but is definitely not a male Avenger, I was really moved by it to be honest with you. I thought, Wow, what a cool place to go in the middle of all this mayhem. And, of course, the Science Bros stuff was really satisfying and then I also knew that, technologically speaking, we had made a pretty significant advance in motion capture and facial motion capture that we were going to be able to do a lot more with Hulk. So I was really excited. Did you lobby for any of this stuff? I didn't do it while [Joss Whedon] was writing, but I did when we were doing the first "Avengers," I did say, "Wouldn't it be interesting to see Banner and Widow have something going on?" I was playing with that when we were doing the first one. I just thought those two characters had something that was kindred and something that would be really interesting to explore. So I laid that in there, almost half-jokingly. And then I am friends with Joss and I'd check in every now and again and I was shooting "Foxcatcher" and I was feeling particularly blue and I reached out to him and said, "How's it going? I haven't heard from you in a while." And he said, "Hey buddy, I just wrote one of my favorite scenes and it's you and Scarlett hooking up, having this forbidden love that could not be." And I just thought, Oh my god this is going to be great. And you get to be one of the co-creators of Ultron! Yeah, that's pretty cool. You talked about the advancements in motion capture and there was talk of you and Serkis working together. What was that situation like? Andy is on the frontier of this stuff and he, more than anyone, has developed it into a really performance-based tool. So he's got a really strong philosophy about that and has created a work environment that is really geared towards an actor creating a performance within that technology. And so we were working together on the physicality of it and also the attitude towards it -- that it is an extension of an actor's performance, that it is performance-driven and that there has to be a specific type of space created for that performance to happen in. He taught me an enormous amount about how to do that and how to insist upon it and how to work within it. One of the big set pieces in the movie is the Hulkbuster fight. Did you do any of that? Yeah, it was me with a stuntman that was about 7 foot 6. And so we did all of that. Sometimes it would be one or two stuntmen and it was with another stuntman. We did all that, all of those sequences. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be embracing the character more this time around. With the first movie you seemed very happy to be invited, but now you're really taking ownership of the character. Is that the case? I feel more comfortable in it and, especially with the motion capture stuff, that is something that we really haven't figured out completely yet. And it needs input and I had a lot of input before. But it is this interesting thing because you're working with this team of artists. It's a collaboration with the artists who are doing the CGI and so there's a dialogue going on there. As it develops, I really want to make sure it's as sacred a space and time as when the actors are rolling on any actor. So that's been an interesting journey to take with production and with myself and with the technicians as well. So yeah, we're creating it, and I do feel some sort of ownership in how it's coming along, because it's basically a completely new frontier. Especially for you. Especially for me! [Laughs] Did Joss tell you where the Hulk is headed? He's not going into space, although a lot of people think that he may be. He's definitely on his own and he's definitely heading far, far away from the Avengers. Nobody's talked about where, exactly. It's been an open question, I think because no one really knows what's coming next. We both love the idea that he jettisons himself away. I know a lot of people dream about an action figure, but you get your own Doritos bag. [Laughs] Your flavor is "Jacked 3D." What about you, what about the Hulk screams "Jacked 3D"? [Laughs] I don't know what that is either! It's jalapeño flavored and I'll tell you, I had some yesterday. The bag itself weighs about seven pounds. And literally I had one and I drank a bottle of water and literally that one Dorito absorbed the entire bottle of water and then turned into cement in my stomach. Then it dried in my stomach. Evan Peters Returning for 'American Horror Story: Hotel' Posted: "American Horror Story" mastermind Ryan Murphy continues his rollout of the anthology series's cast for fifth season "Hotel," and the latest addition is a familiar face. Murphy revealed on Twitter that longtime "AHS" staple Evan Peters will be returning, and it seems his character will be a sinister one. Fellow four-timer Sarah Paulson will also be returning for "Hotel" (Murphy dubbed her character "the baddest bad girl of them all"), as will Kathy Bates (playing the woman in charge of the titular building). They join Lady Gaga, Chloe Sevigny, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, and Cheyenne Jackson, among others. "American Horror Story: Hotel" starts production sometime this summer. Its 13-episode season will premiere sometime this October on FX. [via: Ryan Murphy] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'Key & Peele''s Obama Anger Translator Cameos at White House Correspondents' Dinner Posted: The recurring "Key & Peele" sketch featuring President Barack Obama's fictional anger translator, Luther, made a leap into the real world this weekend, as Keegan-Michael Key cameoed as the character during the president's remarks at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner. The brilliant bit came during the end of Obama's speech before the crowd, which included journalists, politicians, and celebrities such as Bradley Cooper and "Orange Is the New Black" star Laverne Cox. As the president talked about his even-keeled approach to dealing with the press, he invited Luther (Key) onstage to tell the media how he really felt about current events such as the recent Ebola outbreak and the Republican presidential candidates. Key-as-Luther huffed and puffed behind the president's podium, screaming out exasperated one-liners about California's drought ("It looks like a trailer for the new 'Mad Max' movie up in there") and Hillary Clinton's "Game of Thrones"-esque aspirations of winning the 2016 election ("Khaleesi is coming to Westeros!"). Luther and Obama ended the bit with a role-reversal, with the president going on a rant about climate change, and Luther having to calm down the commander in chief. "All due respect, sir -- you don't need an anger translator," Luther told the president. "You need therapy."Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

U.S. Box Office Twiddles Its Thumbs, Waits for 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Posted: Nothing happened at the domestic box office this weekend. Well, almost nothing. The biggest news came from overseas, where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opened almost everywhere except here. At home, the box office seemed to be biding its time until the "Avengers" sequel opens this Friday. Meantime, "Furious 7" remained on top for the fourth straight weekend, as if no studio could be bothered to mount a serious challenge to it. "Age of Adaline" opened in third place, and "Little Boy," the weekend's other new wide release, opened way down at No. 13. Overall, the domestic box office declined for the third straight weekend, selling not even $100 million worth of tickets from Friday to Sunday. Nonetheless, there were a few spots of good news: o. With its estimated $18.3 million take representing nearly a fifth of all ticket sales this weekend, "Furious 7" is the first film since the original "Hunger Games" in 2012 to hold the top spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks. o. "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" fell just 34 percent to an estimated $15.5 million and second place, a very modest drop for a film with terrible reviews and lackluster word-of-mouth. There aren't any other PG-rated comedies out there, so the Kevin James movie had the field to itself. o. "Age of Adaline" opened with an estimated $13.4 million, which was at the upper end of predictions. That's very good for a film with an unproven box office draw as the lead (Blake Lively), and a female-driven romantic drama opening on 2,991 screens while a Nicholas Sparks movie ("The Longest Ride") is still in 3,140 theaters. o. "Ex Machina" expanded big, from 39 screens to 1,255, and did very well, coming in seventh with an estimated $5.4 million, for a total to date of $6.9 million. That's a strong showing for a brainy, philosophical sci-fi drama with no star power. It's also indie distributor A24's biggest release, year to date, having earned more in three weeks than "A Most Violent Year" has since January or "While We're Young" has earned in five weeks. o. "Little Boy"... uh, can't really think of any good news for the faith-based World War II homefront drama that opened with just an estimated $2.8 million on 1,045 screens. Except that "Paul Blart" star Kevin James has a small, uncharacteristically dramatic role in the film, so he's in two top-15 movies at once. Woo-hoo! Of course, all this sounds like small potatoes contrasted with "Avengers," which opened at No. 1 in 44 countries and earned an estimated $201.2 million. That's a healthy percentage above the $185.1 million that the first "Avengers" earned during its overseas opening three years ago. The worldwide-but-not-yet-in-America smash reflects a strategy that Disney and other studios have been pursuing for a few years now of releasing some potential blockbusters abroad before releasing them here. It help builds hype for the American release, it gets the movie out ahead of the May Day holiday in many countries, and it helps recoup the studio's investment before a single American ticket is sold. With numbers like those that "Avengers" is already racking up, it's no wonder that Hollywood now considers domestic box office an afterthought. 'X-Men: Apocalypse': First Day on Set, See Photo of Nightcrawler ... Before He's Gone Posted: And just like that -- poof! -- he's gone. Director Bryan Singer cleverly teased the return of Nightcrawler for his movie "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is set to come out May 27, 2016 and just started production. Here's Bryan's tweet from this morning (Monday, April 27): Bless him, you know what he did? He quickly deleted that Instagram pic, so now Nightcrawler cannot be found. Well played. You may remember Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler from "X2" and now Kodi Smit-McPhee will be playing the mutant who can teleport in puffs of smoke. Comicbook.com captured the new image before Singer could delete it: "X-Men: Apocalypse" will bring back the new regulars -- including James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender -- with some new faces, from McPhee to "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Keep an eye on Singer's Twitter (and Instagram) for more updates. He's having too much fun teasing us, but we don't mind. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
German Theaters Boycott 'Avengers': Here's Why They're Mad at Disney Posted: Is Mickey Mouse being a bully? Some independent theater owners in Germany are boycotting "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and they may extend this boycott to future Disney-distributed movies like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." This may end up hurting the indie theaters (and fans) more than anything, but the point they're trying to make is that Disney's new demands are already pushing them out of business. What are they mad about? As Variety noted, the theater owners (who control about 700 screens, mostly in smaller towns) are protesting what they allege to be punishing booking terms. Deutsche Welle reports claim that Disney raised its rental fee from 47.7% to 53% of ticket sales; exhibitors also claim Disney stopped its advances for 3-D glasses and cut its contribution to advertiser costs. The independent exhibitors say the increased fees, and other rising costs, may force them out of business. One lobby group rep called the conditions "a scandal." But apparently they are willing to negotiate and said they'd accept a rental fee increase to 50% of ticket sales, but not more than that. Meanwhile, "Age of Ultron," which opens May 1 in the U.S., has already made more than $200 million in international markets. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Game of Thrones' Spoilers: Why Sansa's Book Story Was Changed to Add Ramsay Posted: Spoiler alert: "A Song of Ice and Fire" book spoilers referenced ahead. If anyone should be Bolton right about now, it's Sansa Stark. Run for your life, little bird! Last night in "Game of Thrones" Season 5, Episode 3, "High Sparrow," the ill-fated elder Stark daughter was pushed into an engagement with Ramsay Snow Bolton. This is a big twist from the book, where Sansa's friend Jeyne Poole is forced to marry Ramsay, while pretending to be Arya Stark. Bad things happen to Jeyne as Mrs. Bolton, and fans are concerned that Sansa may face the same treatment. In the book, a rescue attempt is launched to save "Arya," even though it's really Jeyne. On television, Littlefinger seems to have a plan to appear to align with the Boltons, who helped to kill Robb and Catelyn Stark at the Red Wedding, while really helping Sansa to avenge her family by taking back the North. More details on his plan should emerge in Episode 4, but Roose is already suspicious of Petyr Baelish, and Littlefinger is apparently not aware of Ramsay's love for torture. If Littlefinger is a step behind, while also being beckoned by Cersei Lannister in King's Landing, it puts Sansa in a very delicate position. Again. Hasn't this girl been tortured enough? Showrunner David Benioff talked to Entertainment Weekly after "High Sparrow," and what he said is pretty heartening for anyone worried about our little lemon-cake lover. "Sansa is a character we care about almost more than any other, and the Stark sisters have from the very beginning been two characters who have fascinated us the most." He said it's because of Sophie Turner's strength as an actress that they decided to give her this Ramsay engagement storyline. "We really wanted Sansa to play a major part this season," Benioff said. "If we were going to stay absolutely faithful to the book, it was going to be very hard to do that. There was as subplot we loved from the books, but it used a character that's not in the show." Writer-producer Bryan Cogman said they liked the power of bringing a Stark back to Winterfell and having her reunite with Theon under these circumstances. It would've been kind of interesting to have Arya -- the real one -- in this position since she's enough of a ball-buster to be able to put Ramsay in his place. Sansa is more subtle. But maybe that's exactly what's called for here. EW took pains to note that, just because Sansa appears to be taking on part of another character (Jeyne's) role, it doesn't mean GoT will continue to follow that plot. Book readers may not know what will happen next, which is something we could say a lot this season. Do you think this could be a good opportunity for Sansa to show the kind of strength fans have been waiting for, to lead the charge to take back Winterfell and slay the Boltons? Fans React (Hilariously) to Jared Leto's 'Damaged' Joker Posted: "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer finally gave fans a good look at Jared Leto's Joker in a tweet shared April 24 in honor of the villain's 75th birthday. Fans responded to the dramatic, heavily tattooed image with a few positive, many negative, and some just plain funny tweets. A lot of these went right to Ayer, so you have to wonder if he ignored his own notifications or scrolled through them all: Hyperbolic tweets aside, it'll be interesting to see how this Joker differs from the most recent rendition, played by Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight." When Ledger took on that role, many wondered how he'd ever be as good as Jack Nicholson's Joker, and Ledger showed there's room for many different cinematic interpretations. The Joker is just that juicy a part -- for the right actor. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Recap of 'Revenge' Season 4 Episode 21: Aftermath Posted: Victoria Grayson changed into a sparkly red dress and casually blew herself up during last week's episode of "Revenge," and it looks like she's actually dead. Unlike the last time Victoria "exploded" (read: started squatting in a backwoods cabin), this Queen Bee isn't faking her demise -- and her departure from The Hamptons has a huge impact on Emily's life. And definitely not in a good way. Louise Accuses Emily of Murder, Victoria Leaves A Suicide Note In the words of Nolan: ding dong the bitch is dead! Sure, we continue to live in hope that Victoria's secretly trolling around the sand dunes of Long Island -- but she left a suicide note and her dental records were a match, so it looks like RIPs are in order. Obviously, Victoria's Main Minions, Margaux LeMarchal and Louise Ellis, are completely distraught by their mentor's demise -- and they're convinced that Victoria was murdered by Emily. They even involve the Hamptons' police -- including Em's bitter ex, Officer Ben Hunter, who demands that she provide an alibi. Unfortunately, the only person who can confirm Emily's whereabouts at the time of Victoria's death is Mason Treadwell, who "died" last year. Not exactly a reliable source.... "Crazy Capote" Cons Emily, Nolan's Love Life Continues To Be a Shakespearean Tragedy Mason Treadwell wants Emily to clear him of some old murder charges in exchange for not exposing her true story, and she quickly plays ball. The problem? Mason ditches town and then reveals that he was working with Victoria before her death. In fact, he sends Em a video message from Queen V in which she admits that she wants her enemy to take the fall! Dang, this lady just won't quit -- even in the afterlife (aka: hell). In other unrelated-yet-tragic news, Nolan's boyfriend breaks up with him this week because he's about to be an adoptive father. Do the "Revenge" writers have something out for Nols, because this is just cruel. Jack Makes His Triumphant Return, Victoria Gets The Last Laugh Jack moved to sunny California last week -- but don't get too excited. This week, we have the pleasure of watching him frolic shirtless by a pool at his mom's house for about five minutes before he high tails it to The Hamptons to be questioned by the police. This gives him and Emily a great opportunity to have a tender-yet-awkward moment in the hallway, which would have been romantic if it weren't for Jack dramatically throwing his hands up in the air and leaving. (Sigh.) So, do these star-crossed lovers finally get together? Not so much. Despite Ben telling Jack that Emily loves him, they never get a chance to lock lips because Emily's arrested -- and right after finding out that her dad has cancer, no less! Turns out Mason Treadwell planted evidence (including blood) in her car, which means she's the prime suspect in Victoria's murder. In other words, this girl was just beaten at her own revengenda. Have burning questions? Join the club: 1. Is Victoria really dead? There's no way she would have missed out on Em's arrest! 2. Will Emily be bailed out, or will she have to plot and scheme from behind bars? 3. Does Jack believe that Em's innocent, or is their relationship too far gone? 4. Will David Clarke beat his cancer diagnosis? This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
