The Last Horror Blog: More Creepy Books That Would Make Great Movies

Posted: 03 Apr 2015 08:00 PM PDT

Back in 2013, I wrote a Last Horror Blog entry chronicling some great novels that Hollywood should consider bringing to the screen. Of course, with centuries of material to choose from, that list was only going to scratch the surface of all the titles worthy of making the transition from the page to the multiplex. So, I’m back with another batch of books that would make fantastic fright flicks. Hollywood will probably never get around to doing these books justice, but at the very least you’ll come away from this column with a bunch of great stories to read.   Terminal by Brian Keene Author Brian Keene made my previous list with his zombie novel The Rising, but truth be told, almost everything Keene writes could be turned into a film (and one of his books, Ghoul...

Comics on Film: The Huge Upcoming Comics That Will Change the Future of DC and Marvel

Posted: 03 Apr 2015 06:30 PM PDT

Although it seems like only yesterday since DC Comics was really hyping up “The New 52,” and Marvel was banging the drum for “Marvel NOW!,” it’s actually been a few years since the big rebranding initiatives that both major comics publishers put forward. Now, coincidentally enough, both companies are at it again. This time, though, they’re taking some fundamentally different approaches. The Last Set of Relaunches Last time, Marvel and DC approached things rather similarly, with only a few (but notable) differences. For “The New 52,” DC Comics canceled all of their ongoing superhero titles, even long-lasting legacy titles like Action Comics and Detective Comics, and relaunched with 52 brand new titles from issue...

'Groundhog Day' Musical Is Heading to Broadway -- Here's When You Can See It

Posted: 03 Apr 2015 02:40 PM PDT

When you think of movies that would make good stage musicals, we're guessing most people don’t immediately think of Groundhog Day. The 1993 film stars Bill Murray as a man forced to live the same day over and over in the small town of Punxsutawney, and has gone on to become a minor cult classic. Now it's set to become a hit on the stage, with the musical set to debut on Broadway on March 9, 2017 (previews will begin on January 23).  Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics, explained early last year why he thinks it’s a viable candidate for the stage: “The central conceit is perfectly suited to the theatre, in my opinion. In fact, I think many of its ideas could be enhanced by the stage. It has the potential to be complex, dark, visually...

Watch: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Lip Sync's a Taylor Swift Song and Crushes It

Posted: 03 Apr 2015 01:16 PM PDT

Is there anything Furious 7 star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson can't do? He's one of Hollywood's most sought-after action stars, not to mention a formidable former wrestler, a great comedic actor, a future animated Disney star (he just signed on to voice one of the leads in Disney's upcoming animated musical Moana), and now you can add "Lip Sync Battle King" to his enormous resume. On the premiere of Spike's Lip Sync Battle, a show that will no doubt become something you obsessively watch over and over again until you're challenging everyone in your family to lip-sync fights at the breakfast table, The Rock threw down hard against Jimmy Fallon by absolutely crushing Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off." Even the haters will find...

Michelle Darnell: Melissa McCarthy is featured in the first image from Michelle Darnell. She's the one wearing glasses and a big scarf, surrounded by similarly-dressed women of all ages. The ladies are part of a "misfit Daisy troop" that follows McCarthy as Darnell, a self-help guru and convicted criminal, as she sets forth on a new scheme. Kristen Bell also stars; the comedy hits theaters next year. [EW.com]   Play-Doh: Somehow, Play-Doh will become a major motion picture. Reportedly, Paul Feig (Spy) is in negotiations to direct; with Jason Micallef writing the screenplay based on an idea that the director developed with Chernin Entertainment.
