Anna Kendrick Is Writing Your New Favorite Book

Posted:

87th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
Anna Kendrick is a delight on Twitter, and now, she's parlaying her quick wit into a series of humorous essays for a new book.

The Oscar-nominated actress is set to pen a book of autobiographical essays that touch upon her childhood, her box office success in flicks like "Pitch Perfect," and everything in between. The as-yet-untitled tome is set to hit the shelves sometime in the fall of 2016.

Kendrick released a statement along with the announcement from publisher Touchstone. It said:

I'm excited to publish my first book, and because I get uncomfortable when people have high expectations, I'd like to use this opportunity to showcase my ineptitude, pettiness and the frequency with which I embarrass myself.

And while many of my female inspirations who have become authors are incredibly well-educated and accomplished comedy writers, I'm very, very funny on Twitter, according to Buzzfeed and my mom, so I feel like this is a great idea. Quick question: are run-on sentences still frowned upon? Wait, is ending a sentence with a preposition still frowned upon? I mean, upon frowned? Dammit!

Based on that blurb alone, we're already hooked. Hurry up, 2016!

Quentin Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' Has a Teaser Trailer

Posted:

hateful eight Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" finally has an official teaser trailer, and there's no mistaking the director's trademark style.

The short clip doesn't have any actual footage from the flick. Instead, it features a set of title cards that explain the film's basic premise -- it takes place on the American frontier shortly after the Civil War, eight strangers with a mysterious joint secret are stranded together in a snowstorm -- and introduces its eclectic cast of characters.

In typical Tarantino fashion, those introductions are made with stylish graphics, a funky soundtrack, and a set of ridiculous monikers. (Joe Cage, a.k.a. "The Cow Puncher," has us especially intrigued.) And yes, there's some blood spatter, too.

"The Hateful Eight" stars Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Channing Tatum, Kurt Russell, and Samuel L. Jackson, among others. It's due in theaters later this year.

Is This Olivia Munn's Psylocke Costume From 'X-Men: Apocalypse'?

Posted:

Samsung Launches The Galaxy S 6 and Galaxy S 6 Edge In Los Angeles
Just days after her "X-Men: Apocalypse" casting was revealed, Olivia Munn seems to have a big revelation herself: Her Psylocke costume.

The actress posted a photo of herself on Instagram, purportedly dressed as the telekinetic mutant, with the cheeky caption, "If the latex fits...."

While it's not a full shot of the entire ensemble, Cinema Blend notes that what we can see does coincide with Psylocke's traditional leotard-based costume (and she's also been known to wear gloves, too). Filming is set to start next month, and actors are apparently starting the costume testing process now; this look may see some changes before it hits the big screen, but it's cool to get a peek at the work in progress (and have it to compare to Munn's full mutant transformation in the finished flick).

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is due in theaters on May 27, 2016.

Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in 'Blade Runner' Sequel

Posted:

The upcoming "Blade Runner" sequel just got a major dose of heartthrob: Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in the long-awaited flick.

Gosling would play the lead alongside original star Harrison Ford, who's reprising his role as Rick Deckard. Denis Villeneuve ("Prisoners") is directing the flick, and original director Ridley Scott is executive producing.

"Blade Runner 2" -- which doesn't have an official title or synopsis yet -- is set to take place "several decades" following the conclusion of the 1982 original flick. Details about Gosling's character are also being kept under wraps.

The flick is being co-written by original screenwriter Hampton Fancher alongside Michael Green, from an idea by Scott and Fancher. Production is expected to begin sometime in summer 2016.

Stay tuned to see if Gosling's casting is confirmed.

The New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Teaser Will Make You Choke Up, Jump for Joy

Posted:

Maybe it was the hour+ buildup to the big reveal of the second "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer that had us already primed for an emotional experience or maybe it's just the sheer, unadulterated excitement about the project, but at the end of the nearly two-minute-long clip, we were on the verge of tears. If this movie isn't everything we'd hoped it'd be, at the very least it will be remembered as the best-marketed movie of all time.

The teaser begins, as the first one did, with a slow pan against a desert landscape (which we learned was not, in fact, Tatooine but a new planet called Jakku. In the background is a crashed Star Destroyer, one that we can assume from the panel, contains Finn (John Boyega), the plucky stormtrooper from the first trailer. Then the trailer ramps up the nostalgia quotient with the sound of a familiar voice -- Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) -- and some wonderful narration. "The Force is strong in my family..." [Cue image of charred Darth Vader helmet that's mangled and looks like a skull] "... My father has it... I have it... My sister has it... You have that power too." YES.

Now the good stuff: Poe (Oscar Isaac) flying an X-wing over a lake and letting out a triumphant yowl. An explosion on this new planet. Lots of stormtroopers. B-88 poking his head out. Daisy Ridley looking incredibly fierce and then the kicker (and here's where the water works will come), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), with Solo saying, "Chewie, we're home." YES WE ARE.

Watch the trailer again below and count down the days until December 18th.

'Wonder Woman' Has a New Director: Patty Jenkins

Posted:

64th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards - Arrivals
Onetime "Thor: The Dark World" director Patty Jenkins is changing comics allegiances, switching from Marvel to DC to helm the upcoming Wonder Woman movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins just closed a deal with Warner Bros. to take over the project from Michelle MacLaren, who departed the flick just days ago amid creative differences with the studio. Warner Bros. was reportedly eager to have a woman helm the film, and looked specifically for female directors for the project.

Jenkins, who directed "Monster" (which netted Charlize Theron a Best Actress Oscar) and the pilot of AMC series "The Killing," had previously been attached to "Thor" sequel "The Dark World," but in a similar situation to MacLaren, left the project over creative differences with Marvel Studios. (Ironically, replacement director Alan Taylor also had some well-documented creative issues with that film.) She would have been the first female to direct a tentpole superhero flick, a distinction that should stick this time around.

Here's hoping Jenkins's hiring is the final one, and work on the long-awaited "Wonder Woman" can get underway. The flick, starring Gal Gadot, is tentatively scheduled for a June 2017 release.

This 20-Second Teaser for 'Batman v Superman' Is Short But Sweet

Posted:

Batman v Superman
The first full trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" isn't due out until next week, but that didn't stop director Zack Snyder from sharing a 20-second snippet to whet fans' appetites.

Snyder revealed the teaser on Twitter, offering no commentary on its contents. But the clip speaks for itself, with its lingering looks at the titular superheroes' iconic costumes.

It goes by in a flash, but the real excitement happens in the last few frames, when the Superman logo is superimposed onto the Batman logo, creating one striking symbol. Talk about goosebump-inducing imagery -- it sums up the premise of the flick in a nutshell, and reminds comic fans of just how big of a deal such a team-up film is.

Watch the teaser below, and get excited for an even closer look next week.

23 Horror Movie Mistakes That Will Give You Nightmares

Posted:

Part of the appeal of horror movies is that scares are the top priority. But that can mean quality comes second.

Horror movies are sometimes filled with cheesy sub-plots, low production value, and, at times, some seriously questionable acting, but as long as the movie delivers that thrill or shock you came to see, all is forgiven. Right? We've assembled a few on-screen errors -- from movies such as "The Shining" and "Scream" -- to see if that holds true.

Best of Late Night TV: Naomi Campbell's Runway Walk with James Corden and Katharine McPhee's Tax Day Carol (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Naomi Campbell is celebrating her 29th year modeling, so naturally she visited "The Late Late Show" and taught James Corden how to strut his stuff on the runway. Watch James, Naomi, Nick Kroll, and Katherine McPhee get their model on in the clip below. You seeing this Karl Lagerfeld? Because you should probably hire James for FW2015.

Yesterday was Tax Day (oh joy!), and the entire country was in the mood to celebrate. Or, at least James Corden was. He and Katherine McPhee teamed up to sing Tax Day carols set to the tune of some popular Christmas songs -- because after all, this is "a time when Americans joyously donate up to 39.6 percent of their income to the government!"

Hilary Clinton is running for POTUS, which gave the hilarious folks at "Jimmy Kimmel Live" an opportunity to hit the streets of L.A. to ask people their thoughts and feels on some faux campaign logos. The results? Amazing as usual.

Kiernan Shipka is wrapping up "Mad Men's" final season, but did you know she got her start doing skits on "Jimmy Kimmel Live?" In fact, Kiernan booked "Mad Men" in the "Kimmel" parking lot. Check out her impersonation of Britney Spears below!

In case you aren't aware (doubtful!), David Letterman's retiring and celebrities the world over are super bummed. Apparently, Amy Sedaris is a huge fan of David, so she decided to sing a medley for him during her appearance. Good times!

Finally, Ice Cube has a lot of feelings about twerking, and he's making them known on "Conan." That is all.
