New on DVD/Blu-ray: Salma Hayek Blows Away a Wave of Assassins in 'Everly'

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 09:00 PM PDT

Everly - Radius-TWC - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Joe Lynch Cast: Salma Hayek, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Jennifer Blanc, Togo Igawa Everly stars Salma Hayek as the kept girlfriend of a gangster who decides to finally break free of her terrible life. Having typed that, it sounds like a standard Sundance drama, so I should probably point out that breaking free of her life involves guns and killing wave after wave of people who are hired to try and kill her. Hayek is fantastic in the movie, and it's clear she has plenty of fun taking on the kick-ass role, no matter how absurd things get. And it does get absurd. The whole thing has a weird sense of humor and a pretty terrific sense of action and humor, feeling more like a late '80s cult movie than most modern...

Original 'Breakfast Club' Script Discovered at High School with Alternate Title

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 07:30 PM PDT

This continues to be an interesting year for trivia about The Breakfast Club. The classic teen movie, which was written and directed by John Hughes, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, and while commemorative screenings were being held at SXSW and around the country last month, we also learned that there was going to be a nude shower scene, which Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy protested against, and that Rick Moranis had been in the movie as the janitor but was fired early on during production.  Now comes word that The Breakfast Club was originally titled Saturday Breakfast Club. The information comes from documents accompanying an early draft of Hughes's script dated September 21, 1983 (roughly six months before filming began) found in a filing cabinet at Maine...

Posted: 22 Apr 2015 01:52 PM PDT

Those paying close attention to Marvel's "Phase 2" slate of films, including Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, will notice some similarities between them, most notably that the sequels of the bunch are all a bit darker and deeper than their predecessors.  All of them also feature a nerdy Star Wars reference, itself an homage to the second Star Wars movie -- one many feel is the greatest sequel of all time: Empire Strikes Back. And the homage? Someone's hand gets cut off in each film.   While speaking with Marvel chief Kevin Feige for Avengers: Age of Ultron, CinemaBlend uncovered the fun little Empire nod that Feige and his Marvel crew have been returning to...
