Watch: The Greeting Card Business Gets Weird In Bob Odenkirk's 'Girlfriend's Day' Trailer Posted: 17 Jan 2017 09:00 PM PST You can tell Bob Odenkirk is the perfect loser in Girlfriend's Day because he plays a professional greeting card writer. The irony of such a job for such a character has been seen before in The Lonely Guy, Missing Pieces, Mr. Deeds, (500) Days of Summer and, with a bit of variation, Her. In this new movie, a Netflix original, the main premise is that he used to be the best at it and now must reign again through a contest related to the titular new holiday. Odenkirk seems perfect for the role, as it's almost like he's playing his TV character Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad and now Better Call Saul as a writer instead of a lawyer. He co-wrote the script with his old Mr. Show collaborator Eric Hoffman... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'White Men Can't Jump' Is Getting a Remake From the Creator of 'Black-ish' Posted: 17 Jan 2017 07:30 PM PST White Men Can't Jump is being remade. Let's just get that little bit of surprise out of the way. It's shocking not because the original is the Citizen Kane of sports movies and should be considered untouchable for a remake, but because it's a movie that was so, so very specific to the time in which it came out. It's one of the most unapologetically '90s movies ever. Its sense of humor, its cast, its soundtrack, the editing, the cinematography, the hats (!)-- every frame of it is 1992 dialed to 11. So it's not that White Men Can't Jump can't be remade - its plot of street hustler basketball players uniting together is pretty evergreen - it's just more like a treasure so perfectly encased in the cultural sap of the '90s that we... 'My Pet Dinosaur' Trailer Is Totally Not Just 'E.T.' With a Dinosaur (It Totally Is) Posted: 17 Jan 2017 06:00 PM PST It's hard to see a movie about neighborhood kids trying to hide something supernatural from their parents and not think of E.T. Three decades later and the second we see a batch of kids moving around dimly lit woods or hiding things in their closet we immediately think of Elliott and his new, wrinkly friend. That's just the power of Spielberg. The Spielberg shadow isn't just cast on American movies, either. It reaches all the way around the world, as you can so readily tell from the first trailer for the Australian movie My Pet Dinosaur. We don't even need to give you a plot on this one. It's E.T., but with a dinosaur. It doesn't look like this is going to overtake Spielberg's classic as the go-to association for these kind of movies, but... Cernan was selected to be an astronaut in 1963. He piloted his first orbital flight in 1966 and flew to the moon twice, first on a test mission on Apollo 10 in 1969 and then as commander of the last human mission in 1972. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service in 1976, ending his NASA career. He went into private business and also served as a television commentator.
