Watch 'SNL' Spoof 'The Bachelor' in 'Beard Hunk' Parody Posted: Now that Nick Viall is finally the one giving out roses on "The Bachelor," the time has come for the repeat "Bachelorette" contender to get his own "Saturday Night Live" nickname and parody video. In the sketch, the newly coined "Beard Hunk" is played by "SNL" cast member Beck Bennett, who comes face to face with absurd caricatures of the show's eager contestants. Wooing the titular Beard Hunk isn't easy -- there's always another woman waiting in the wings to "steal him for a sec." The spoof shows "Nick" being awkwardly courted by guest host Felicity Jones as well as "SNL" stars Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Vanessa Bayer, and Aidy Bryant. They all play on "Bachelor" stereotypes, from the shallowness to the overdone hair to what it takes to finally drive a Bachelor away. Check out Beard Hunk and his painful courtship below. "Saturday Night Live" airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Is 'Sherlock' Over? Showrunner Talks Season 4 Ending, Show's Future Posted: "Sherlock" Season 4 has come and gone all too quickly. The fourth season concluded Sunday with an adrenaline-spiking finale, only to again raise the question of whether or not we'll get more of the crime drama series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the future. The fact that the finale tied off its loose ends worried many fans, especially after earlier hints that Season 4 could be the show's last. Unfortunately, we still don't have a definitive answer. Showrunner Steven Moffat recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly about the intense season finale and the fate of the series, and he avoided giving a yes or a no on more "Sherlock." Instead, he discussed the lack of cliffhangers while still leaving the door open for additional episodes. "There isn't something we have to come back to address," he told the publication. "Which is quite good for us. Because if we do come back, we can just start with a knock on the door and a new client, and they can go and investigate." Reassuring as that sounds, he conceded the possibility of Season 4 bringing the end. "It's certainly the first time we've ever ended a season thinking, 'If we never come back, this is fine," he said. "If we want to come back and solve more crimes we can do it, that's no problem." Apparently, finding out whether we'll ever get "Sherlock" Season 5 will continue to be as suspenseful and mysterious as the show itself. How fitting -- and frustrating. 'The Defenders': Krysten Ritter Already Wants a Season 2 Posted: Count Krysten Ritter in for "Marvel's The Defenders" Season 2, assuming Netflix chooses to order it. The actress is currently filming the streaming service's upcoming crossover series, bringing her "Jessica Jones" character to the all-star superhero team. "We're all having a blast," she told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. "We're all excited to be working together." "The Defenders" takes crime-fighters Jessica Jones, Luke Cage (Mike Coulter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) from their respective solo series and has them join forces for the sake of keeping New York safe. For Ritter, having an ensemble cast is a nice change. "With 'Jessica Jones,' I'm in almost every frame of the show," she said. "This is spread out so we're all working about three days a week. ... It's honestly kind of a dream job." Not surprisingly, that makes her excited about the prospect of more "Defenders" in the future. "If they want to do a 'Defenders 2,'" she said, "I'm in." Netflix still has to renew the series -- which premieres on Netflix this summer -- first, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Ritter's wish for Season 2 come true.[via: Entertainment Weekly] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Portlandia' Set to End in 2018 After Season 8 Posted: Good news and bad news, "Porlandia" fans: The IFC sketch comedy show has been renewed for its eighth season, but the series is set to conclude in 2018. Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC, announced during a TCA panel on Saturday that the upcoming Season 8 would be the series' last, Variety reports. Stars Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen were also present, along with their co-creator Jonathan Krisel. Interestingly, based on their comments, the decision didn't necessarily sound like one everyone was excited about. "I think we barely decided to do that," Krisel said of ending the show. "It seems scary to say it's over." He also added that "there are other outlets," possibly indicating that "Portlandia" could continue elsewhere in the future. Brownstein seemed to hint at as much as well. "I think nothing ever really ends anyway," she said. Armisen, however, discussed the decision in more final terms. "For us, it seemed like a way to figure out a way to have a beginning, a middle and an ending," he said. "Portlandia" made its debut in 2011 and is currently in the midst of its seventh season. Over the years, the comedy has made light of Portland, Oregon's quirks. Brownstein and Armisen have played various roles, often joined by famous guest stars; the series has featured appearances by Olivia Wilde, Selma Blair, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, and many more. With the show ending, we'll need a new way to get our Portland-centric humor fix. Excuse us as we go cry over a cup of fair trade, ethical coffee. Tom Hardy Wants Christopher Nolan to Direct a Bond Movie Posted: Setting aside the fact that we still don't know who will be playing the titular spy in the next James Bond flick, there's one name that's been floated as the perfect director for the upcoming project: Nolan. Christopher Nolan. The director is Tom Hardy's top pick for the coveted gig, anyway. And while Hardy himself has been suggested as the heir apparent to the 007 role, the actor was more interested in touting the skills of his "Dark Knight Rises" and "Dunkirk" director during a recent interview with The Daily Beast. Responding to a question about Nolan's reported interest in tackling a Bond film, Hardy said that that pairing made sense, telling the site, "Chris would be amazing" and "a fantastic director for a Bond movie." And though the actor noted that it would be hard to follow the act of current Bond Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes, he said that the visionary Nolan would be the perfect person to take up such a daunting challenge. "I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that's a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound—again," Hardy told The Daily Beast. The future of the Bond series is still very much up in the air, with Craig refusing to commit one way or another on whether or not he'll sign on for another flick, and Mendes's attachment also unclear. Though producers reportedly want Craig to return more than they want to search for a new star, that hasn't stopped many, many candidates -- including Hardy -- from entering consideration for the high-profile part. Could Hardy and Nolan be the new face of the franchise? Better grab a martini or two; it's going to be a long time before we know for sure. This Deleted 'Force Awakens' Scene Proves You Shouldn't Mess With Chewbacca Posted: It's hard to imagine anyone in the "Star Wars" universe wanting to mess with Chewbacca, and in a recently discovered deleted scene from "The Force Awakens," fans can see firsthand why tangling with the towering Wookiee is a bad idea. Though it's unclear just where the clip in question came from (this isn't an official deleted scene included on the "Force Awakens" DVD or Bluray release, and the special effects are still pretty raw), it's nevertheless authentic, featuring Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), junkyard dealer Unkar Plutt (Simon Pegg), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). The scene takes place at Maz Kanata's (Lupita Nyong'o) castle, and features Rey running into her former Jakku cohort, who's none too pleased to see her. The confrontation escalates until Chewbacca steps in, at which point Unkar declares, "I'm not afraid of you!" That confidence is a mistake, though, as Chewbacca promptly rips the junker's arm off, and tosses it onto a nearby table. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, this scene is probably a reference to a couple moments in the first "Star Wars" flick, 1977's "A New Hope." First, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) cuts off another patron's arm at the Mos Eisley cantina after he threatens Luke (Mark Hamill), causing a minor scene not unlike what goes down at Maz's; later, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) counsels the droids that Chewie's species has been known to rip people's arms off when things don't go their way. Looks like Unkar Plutt must have missed that "Let the Wookiee win" lesson. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Margot Robbie Transforms Into Tonya Harding in New Set Photos Posted: It was clear from her portrayal of DC villain Harley Quinn in last summer's "Suicide Squad" that Margot Robbie has a knack for completely transforming herself on the big screen. And that's especially true of Robbie's latest role, of real-life disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding, as glimpsed in some set photos from the upcoming biopic "I, Tonya." In the pictures, captured by TMZ photographers, Robbie is nearly unrecognizable as Harding, her blonde locks permed and teased (check out the volume on those bangs!), and her svelte figure concealed in what looks like a padded suit and some seriously high-waisted mom jeans. She could easily pass for Harding in her early '90s heyday, when the spunky skater favored a similar look.
Pairing Robbie's willingness to throw vanity out the door in an effort to nail Harding's style with her determination to learn some figure skating moves for herself, we're impressed with the actress's dedication to the role. This truly seems like a passion project for Robbie (the actress was reportedly instrumental in getting the film greenlit, and led the search for its director herself), and it's exciting to see the level of detail that's being put into such a sensational story, when it could easily have devolved into trashy, made-for-TV territory. For the uninitiated, "I, Tonya" will tell the tale of Harding's fall from grace after her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, attacked fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan ahead of the 1994 Olympics. Harding, a superstar in the sport, was accused of helping Gillooly plot the attack against her rising rival (she has maintained that she did not know about the plan until after it was carried out), and was subsequently stripped of her U.S. Figure Skating titles and banned from the sport for life. The movie will reportedly take a more sympathetic view of Harding, who grew up poor and was pitted against Kerrigan, a more conventional beauty who hailed from a wealthy family. There's no release date yet for "I, Tonya," but it can't come soon enough. [via: TMZ, h/t Huffington Post] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Ben Affleck Is Sick of 'Pain in the Ass' Batman Questions Posted: Ben Affleck just released his latest directorial effort, gangster flick "Live by Night," but all anyone seems to want to talk about is his upcoming standalone Batman flick. The exasperated star is apparently sick of the barrage of questions about the superhero movie, and didn't sugarcoat his feelings on the subject in a recent interview. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight Canada (via video shared by a DC fan Twitter account), Affleck couldn't help but unleash a tirade about the constant stream of Batman questions he faces.
"Oh my God, it's such a pain in the ass," Affleck told ET of the subject, rolling his eyes. "It's, like, every time I mention Batman it gets this huge click bait. And when I was doing this movie ['Live by Night'], it took me two years to get it together, but no one ever asked me, 'Where is "Live by Night,"' you know? They ask me, 'Batman, Batman, Batman.'" While it certainly must be frustrating for the star to have his new film essentially ignored in favor of the flashier superhero franchise he's part of, he comes off a little bratty in this complaint. At least he actually did offer DC fans something by way of an update, though, telling ET that he has high hopes for the flick. "'Batman' is coming along," Affleck said. "It's going to be great. We're going to make something really special. We're going to take the time to make it right. We're going to do it good. We're going to do it the right way and the fans are gonna love it." It's interesting that the actor-director is speaking so highly of the feature now, when earlier this month, he hedged his bets and said in another interview that he may not direct the film if he doesn't think it's up to his standards. Maybe things have changed since then, or maybe someone at DC asked him to put a more positive spin on the flick going forward. Either way, it seems like Affleck isn't done talking about "The Batman" yet. Stay tuned for more colorful commentary from the filmmaker. ABC Boss Defends 'Very Hard Call' to Delay TGIT for Trump Special Posted: It's not even like ABC bumped the return of TGIT for Donald Trump's actual presidential inauguration. That's Friday, Jan. 20. Instead, the network moved the Thursday, Jan. 19 premiere of "Scandal" Season 6 and the midseason returns for "Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away With Murder" to Thursday, Jan. 26 in favor of ... the "20/20" special "America's New First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington." Now all of the new TGIT episodes will arrive Jan. 26, despite the many ads out there promoting Jan. 19 as the big return date. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey explained the decision to TVLine during the TCAs Winter Press Tour, emphasizing that she's not happy about it either:
Dungey said there had been ongoing conversations with ABC News leading into inauguration day, including discussion of a pre-inauguration special, despite ABC News not airing any similar profile eight years ago for Barack Obama's family. At first, TVLine reports, ABC News pitched a two-hour profile of the Trump First Family, but that was cut in half when ABC was still thinking of keeping TGIT's return partially intact. Ultimately, Dungey said they felt it was better to move all of TGIT to the following week to have all of the new episodes come back at once. Dungey defended the choice to air the special, since the country is now facing a "more complicated and difficult" transition process:
"Greys" fans are anticipating some interesting bottle episodes ahead in Season 13, with the now Jan. 26 episode taking three docs into a maximum security prison. There's also a lot more ahead for Japril, plus a standalone episode set on a plane. The Trump special airs at 10 p.m. this Thursday, after repeats of "Grey's" and "Scandal." HBO: 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Episode Count Not Set Yet Posted: Hold your khalasars! "Game of Thrones" Season 8 may not have just six episodes after all. HBO is waiting for an official decree from "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss before giving a green light to the eighth and final season. It's a formality -- there will be a Season 8 -- but the network is leaving it up to D&D to decide exactly when the show ends. But whatever the final count -- be it the six episodes we've heard over and over, or more to get us to "15 hours" or beyond -- HBO is going to wish it were even more. Here's what HBO programming boss Casey Bloys told TVLine:
He added, with a laugh, "If you're afraid we're not going to do an eighth season, I assure you we're going to." Bloys gave a similar quote to Entertainment Weekly:
He also addressed the idea of a spinoff, telling EW a prequel makes most sense:
They'll do something, all right, we have just to wait to see what it is. But let's get through the main show first. GoT Season 7 is still filming, having gotten a late start to capture real winter locations. Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Iain Glen (Jorah) both mentioned Season 8 having six episodes, with Glen saying they had been told there were 15 hours left to the series as a whole, from Season 7's seven episodes to whatever comes in Season 8. If it's still six episodes, some of those hours would have to be supersized hours to get to 15 hours. Cunningham added that Season 8 would start filming in September. That may be the behind-the-scenes plan, but we have to wait for all the Ts to be crossed until HBO makes it official. "Game of Thrones" Season 7 has no set premiere date yet, other than some time this summer. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch Jennifer Lawrence & Other Celebs Mock Woody Harrelson's Live Film Plan Posted: Did you know that Woody Harrelson will attempt to be the first person to broadcast a film live as it is being shot, starting this Thursday, Jan. 19? It's a wild idea, and his friends think it's "f*cking stupid" and "batsh*t crazy" and he's an idiot for attempting it. But good luck! Vanity Fair got a bunch of Woody's friends to roast him for a 3-minute video posted to the site, with mock "don't do it" pleas from Jennifer Lawrence, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel, Matthew McConaughey, Jimmy Kimmel, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Maher, Josh Hutcherson, Ted Danson, James Marsden, Will Ferrell, Naomi Watts, Edward Norton, and more -- including Jesse Eisenberg, who said it was a great idea until he realized it was from Woody Harrelson, not Woody Allen. As Jennifer Lawrence put it, while having her makeup done, "Woody, you've had so many bad ideas, but this is by far the worst one."
According to Vanity Fair, the live-streamed film, "Lost in London" -- which also stars Owen Wilson and Willie Nelson -- will screen in select theaters via Fathom Events on Thursday, January 19. 'SNL': Tina Fey Saves Felicity Jones Monologue, Trump Slams Show Again Posted: Tina Fey brought the Force to "Saturday Night Live" to help host Felicity Jones work through her obvious nerves. Jones, star of the box office juggernaut "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," hosted the episode on January 14, and NBC also showed a repeat of Carrie Fisher's SNL episode in 1978. In keeping with the Star Wars theme, Tina Fey showed up in the monologue as a Princess Leia-like hologram, with Kenan Thompson doing his best Forest Whitaker impression as Saw Gerrera. Jones admitted she was nervous, and Fey told her to just do her best and don't worry what the reviews say: "No matter how it goes, the President of the United States will say that it's "sad and overrated." Here's the monologue:As usual, that Trump assessment was not far off the mark. This week's SNL was once again dominated by Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump impression -- in a Golden Showers cold open -- complete with another reaction tweet from Trump that the show is "not funny."
Here's the cold open, which has more than 4 million views so far: Jones also joined the cast for another "Bachelor" spoof, this time mocking Nick Viall as "Beard Hunk": And SNL showed it can mock Hollywood celebrities almost as well as it mocks Trump in this "Movie Interview" sketch: Want more stuff like this? 'Better Call Saul' Season 3 Shows a 'More Immature' Gus Fring Posted: It sure sounds like Gus Fring might be breaking bad on "Better Call Saul." Over the weekend, AMC announced that Season 3 will premiere Monday, April 10 at 10 p.m. A recent promo showed the return of Giancarlo Esposito's drug boss/Los Pollos Hermanos manager, and his role was further confirmed during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. According to TVLine, Esposito joined stars Bob Odenkirk (Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman) and Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmantraut) on the "Better Call Saul" panel, and had this to say about his character's prequel return:
Yes, please. TVLine also pointed out that the logline for Season 3 -- "Mike searches for a mysterious adversary who seems to know almost everything about his business" -- could very well be Gus himself. And AMC also promised more "backstories" will be illuminated with "meaningful nods to the 'Breaking Bad' universe." Yeah, b*tch! They are ringing all the bells we want to hear, so far.
