'American Crime Story' to Cover Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky Scandal: Report Posted: "American Crime Story" creator Ryan Murphy is thinking ahead -- way ahead. Seasons 2 and 3 of the true crime anthology series are already in the works, and now yet another is reported to be as well. Murphy is developing an installment that would dramatize former President Bill Clinton's '90s affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The scandal rocked the nation and culminated in Clinton being impeached by the House of Representatives before the Senate acquitted him. Sources tell THR that producers are already working on casting actresses to play Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp. On top of that, Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions have reportedly optioned the rights to a best-selling book on the subject, Jeffrey Toobin's "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President." It's fitting considering that the author's 1997 book "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson" inspired "American Crime Story" Season 1. Toobin served as a consultant on the first installment. Assuming all moves forward as planned, we still have at least two seasons of "American Crime Story" to get through before the series brings us the Clinton sex scandal. Season 2, which is expected to premiere in 2018, will center on Hurricane Katrina, and then Season 3 will take on the assassination of fashion designer Gianni Versace about six months later. We've got a lot of good TV -- and scandal -- in our future. [via: THR] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
ABC Looks to Add Another Shonda Rhimes Show, Orders Legal Drama Pilot Posted: ABC can't get enough of Shonda Rhimes. The network has ordered a pilot for a legal drama series from the "Grey's Anatomy" creator. The project doesn't have an official title yet, but it does have a compelling premise, as all Rhimes's shows do. The story will follow newbie lawyers as they face off against each other on high-profile cases in the Southern District of New York Federal Court (aka "The Mother Court"). As you can imagine, there will be plenty of personal drama as well; this wouldn't be a ShondaLand show without it. Rhimes is executive producing with her frequent collaborator Betsy Beers. The two have worked together on "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away With Murder," among other ShondaLand hits. They're joined by "Scandal" writer Paul William Davies, who is set to serve as showrunner. We wouldn't be surprised at all to see ABC give the project a full-season order, but we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, there's no shortage of ShondaLand shows to keep us busy. Lisa Frank's Colorful World to Come to Life in Live-Action and Animated Film Project Posted: Lisa Frank's colorful, psychedelic creatures are going from your '90s trapper keeper to the big screen. The company is developing a film with producer Jon Shestack, Variety reports. The project will combine live-action and animation as it tells its story. Currently untitled, the movie will be bright in every sense of the word. "Lisa Frank's world is cheerful, it's optimistic, it's hip, but it is without snark," Shestack said. "It's just sort of impossible to scowl when you're smiling, and why would you want to? I'm so stoked to be part of this." While the company has been around since 1979 -- bringing its dolphins, cats, unicorns, rainbows, and more to stickers, coloring books, folders, and so on -- this will be its first feature-length movie. The woman behind the brand is understandably excited about the new project, which has apparently been a long time coming. "I have always wanted to do a feature film that brings the world of Lisa Frank to life," Frank said. "We have so much backstory on our characters and they have been alive in my imagination since the beginning." In working with Shestack, the brand has a producer onboard with credits that include "Before I Fall," "Air Force One," and more. No release date has been set yet, but we're ready for the rainbows.[via: Variety] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Anya Taylor-Joy's Preparation for 'Split' Included Spooning With James McAvoy Posted: M. Night Shyamalan is a director whose films are widely praised for their high concept ingeniousness, beautiful camerawork, and soul recalibrating twists. But they're rarely commended as acting showcases, even though a handful of performances in his films serve as near-career highlights for the actors performing them (Bruce Willis in "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable," Mel Gibson in "Signs," Bryce Dallas Howard in "The Village"). Shyamalan's latest mind-bender is "Split," and features a handful of peerless performances. "Split" is the story of a man (played by James McAvoy) who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, meaning that he has 23 personalities living in the same body. His shrink (Betty Buckley) tries to get through to him and, all the while, he has three teenage girls locked up in a subterranean lair. One of these girls, Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy), is a bit of a black sheep and her own mysterious past is teased throughout the movie. If you don't know Taylor-Joy yet, you will. As Casey, she brings a quiet strength and wily intelligence to the role. It's the kind of star-making performance that feels like it only comes around every so often. And what makes it even more incredible is that it's following Taylor-Joy's breakout role in Robert Eggers's "The Witch" from last year. I got to sit down with Taylor-Joy in New York City to talk about "Split," what it was like working for Shyamalan, whether or not she knew that "The Witch" would be such a sensation, and, given the movie's unexpected ending, if she'd be back for further adventures. Moviefone: Most of the movies you've made so far have been genre-based. What's the appeal of these movies for you? I don't think about it that way. I never thought, "Now I'm a serious actor and I'm only going to do genre movies." I just follow my characters. I have a real instinct for This is my character and if I don't do this I am going to die. It just happens that those characters and those stories exist in darkness. But that said, it's been really good fun. What about this character made you think, I have to do this? It's either an instinctual thing, or my heart goes like this [makes a motion of her heart beating fast]. With Casey, I just heard her voice. I really did. The first thing I read of anything was sides [specific scenes that are taken from the script], because it's Night and he's secret. So my scene was the window scene. And I just heard her voice. It wasn't even specified who I was reading for. It was just one of the girls. Instantly, Casey's voice came so strongly for me I never even considered Marcia or Claire. And then, when I read the script ... Something that is very common for me in all of the characters that I do play is that I love them. It's an intense love and it's kind of scary sometimes because I'm not very good at sticking up for myself but if you mess with my character, you're going down. I go mama bear protective over it. I loved Casey so much. We're similar but we're also very different beings. She's so quiet and, as you can tell, I never shut up. She's so quiet and so observant and has such a strong core strength. Her inner world that she's built to protect herself is so rich and deep and I really wanted to see if I could challenge myself to communicate with the audience without speaking. Because most of her stuff in the script is stage direction, it's not dialogue. How much did Night let you know about the character? When I met Night to do the audition I got nothing. Absolutely nothing. But from the second I met him I thought, I have to work with you. I have a very strong feeling with directors, too, and I love directors. It's an aspect of my job that I absolutely love -- getting to work with these incredible people and create something bigger than yourself. So he offered me the role, and I said, "Well I have to read the script." And he said, "But I've offered you the role." I had to tell him that it doesn't work like that. I've been so proud of my work thus far, even if other people didn't like it, but it was my choice and I'm very proud of that. So, after I read the script, I knew I was in. Of all of James McAvoy's personalities, which were the most fun to play against? Ooh ... I'd have to say it's a combination of Patricia and Hedwig. If you had to say, "Which relationship did I enjoy the most?" It would be Hedwig. The scenes with him in his room were just so intense. With James dancing at you and you have to tell yourself, "You're scared, you're scared, this isn't funny." But with Patricia, I had such a visceral reaction to her as a person. She's so desperate to be a part of the girls that she fetishizes them in a way. Anytime she would brush my hair, it would make me extremely uncomfortable. After the take was over I'd say, "It's James, it's fine." But him with the brushing was like, Ahhh, this isn't fun ...Was he actually dancing to a Kanye West song? Yes, he was. We did it twice. One was with a Kanye West song and one was with the song that's in the movie. But I can't remember which Kanye West song it was. Did McAvoy talk you through what he was going to do, or was it a complete surprise? We were lucky enough to have a week of rehearsals prior to filming. So I met James, we shook hands, and he proceeded to spoon me on Night's couch. And I was like, "OK. And this is just my life now. Cool!" But he's so fearless in this film. I feel like a lot of actors couldn't have done it, because there's a big possibility for failure. And he just knocked it out of the park. I have to really commend his ability to move his face. I could tell which character I was talking to just with the flicker of an eyebrow. Really? Oh, yeah. He would straighten his posture, the eyebrow would go up, and I would say, "Patricia." Instantly. He wouldn't have to say anything. But I was also seeing it through Casey's point-of-view. So, at the end, when he's flickering through all of the personalities, Casey is done. And I was done, too. I was like, "I don't understand anything. Bye!" We were told not to explicitly discuss the ending. But is there a possibility for you to be a part of future adventures? I would love to. I would love to! So you'd do another movie with Night? Oh, absolutely. After Robert, he's the director who has had the biggest influence on me. He's changed the way I act, forever. He's given me such a love for the craft. I always knew I loved acting, but now I'm in love with what I do. He demands excellence, and it's a privilege to work with someone who pushes you in that way. He's a friend and a mentor but working with him is different. When you have someone you vibe with like that, it elevates working to a whole other level. Congratulations on your BAFTA nomination. That was this morning, right? Yeah! When you were making "The Witch," did you have any idea it was going to have this impact? Oh, hell no! I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. And I would like to preface this by saying everyone that made that movie is my legitimate family. It was the first time I ever felt like I fit in. But I remember seeing Robert, in my puritan gear, covered in blood, and I said, "You know, we made a really cool movie but it's a shame nobody will ever see it." And he said, "I know, I know." We were completely calm about it. Then the reaction that we got at Sundance was so unprecedented. I guess we hit the zeitgeist at the right time. It's so weird seeing you in modern clothes. And talking with a normal accent. Yes! Was it hard for you to learn that dialect? Not at all. It's super annoying for me and people get irritated with me because they can't figure out my accent. And the reason they can't figure out my accent is because I don't have one. I spoke Spanish until I was 8. And so when I speak English I just mimic whoever I am around. I grew up my whole life having a thick English accent and I'm here for two minutes and I'm already using the accent. So not only was the language super poetic but we had a little boy, Lucas, who was from Yorkshire. I would just talk to him for two minutes before going up and I'd be fine. OK ... one last question: Would thou like to live deliciously? I am! [Laughs] "Split" is out this Friday. We'll have more from writer/director M. Nigh Shyamalan next week, including a discussion of the movie's seriously insane twist. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Prepare for a Show: Grammy Performers Include John Legend, Carrie Underwood, and More Posted: As always, the upcoming Grammy Awards will feature an all-star list of performers. The Recording Academy gave us a preview of what to expect when the show airs Feb. 12 by announcing some of its big-name acts on Wednesday. The night is shaping up to have something for everyone. So far, we can look forward to John Legend, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Metallica taking the stage. "Music's Biggest Night" is usually big on collaborations, and this year, we're getting one from country singers Underwood and Urban. They'll present a united front for at least a song on a night when they're squaring off for the Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance. Urban is also nominated in the Best Country Album category.
Neither Metallica nor Legend is nominated this year, but the Recording Academy has honored them plenty of times in the past. Metallica is an eight-time winner, and Legend has taken home a whopping 10 statues over the years. We're in for a good show when the 59th annual Grammy Awards airs on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. ET. 'The Emoji Movie' Casts Patrick Stewart as Poop Posted: Poop's on you, Patrick Stewart! The veteran British actor will voice the Poop Emoji in the upcoming "Emoji Movie." Sony live-tweeted announcements of more cast members for the animated film. Yes, the guy who has embodied Captain Picard and Professor X will now play Poop:
The movie stars the voice of T.J. Miller as Gene, an emoji outcast because he can wear multiple expressions. In a bid to become normal, Gene teams up with best bud Hi-5 (James Corden) and hacker Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer) on an "app-venture" through the phone to fix his code. Sony also announced Maya Rudolph will voice Crazy Happy and Jennifer Coolidge will voice Gene's mom, Mary Meh. "The Emoji Movie" opens in theaters August 4. Want more stuff like this? Sony's New Animated 'Spider-Man' Movie Will Put a Fan-Favorite Behind the Mask Posted: Sony revealed that the upcoming animated "Spider-Man" film will not be another go-round for Peter Parker, but will instead feature Miles Morales, the first African-American version of the superhero. Fan-favorite Morales first appeared in an August 2011 comic, following the death of Peter Parker. He's a teenager of Black Hispanic descent, which makes him the first black Spider-Man. Executive producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the guys behind "The Lego Movie" and who are currently filming the Han Solo movie in London, made a brief video presentation. They explained they've always loved the idea that "anyone, regardless of color or gender, can wear the mask." They also promised it will be a standalone film that will be "very different" from "Spider-Man: Homecoming" starring Tom Holland as the Webcrawler. Morales is actually the second Latino character to don Spidey's tights: Miguel O'Hara, who is of half Mexican descent, was the title character in 1992's "Spider-Man 2099" comics. Miles, who's described as a science-loving nerd like Peter Parker, was born and raised in Brooklyn (Steve Rogers would approve!) He's the son of an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother. Casting has not yet been announced. The only other thing we know? It's got a release date -- December 21, 2018. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'This Is Us' Renewed for Two More Seasons Posted: It's a big day for "ThIs Is Us" — NBC has renewed the hit freshman for two more seasons. The network made the announcement at its panel at the Television Critics Association press tour. Seasons 2 and 3 will both be at least 18 episodes long. The renewal is no surprise, since "This Is Us" has been a huge success for NBC. It is the top new network series of the season, averaging nearly 10 million viewers and a high 2.6 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic in live plus same day ratings. The show also received a Golden Globe nomination for best drama, NBC's first in a decade. "We all got our wish that this is a hit show," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. "'This Is Us' is as good as anything we've ever had, we're thrilled to renew it for two seasons and there's no doubt it will have a long life on NBC. On behalf of everyone at NBC, we're grateful for the artistry of the cast, crew, and producers assembled by our gifted creator, Dan Fogelman. In a world where there are literally hundreds of television dramas, we're proud to have one of the very best that is also one of the highest-rated." Want more stuff like this? 'The Discovery' Trailer Explores the Afterlife With Jason Segel, Robert Redford Posted: If the afterlife exists, would you want to get there as soon as possible? That's the central dilemma of "The Discovery," which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and has already been acquired by Netflix. The first trailer doesn't give much away about the plot — it's more of a mood piece set to a haunting rendition of Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely" and featuring windswept, grey vistas. In the movie, the afterlife has been scientifically proven, which leads people to start committing suicide to get there. Robert Redford plays the scientist who made the discovery, Jason Segel is his son, and Rooney Mara is a woman with a troubled past that Segel falls for. The tone and subject seem in line with "The One I Love," another offbeat, somewhat dark sci-fi romance directed by Charlie McDowell. "The Discovery" begins streaming March 31 on Netflix. 'The Walking Dead' Producers Toned Down Violence After Premiere Backlash Posted: "The Walking Dead" is listening to its fans and toning down the violence. At an industry panel, the show's producers acknowledged the backlash after the season 7 premiere, in which two major characters suffered brutal deaths. Many fans declared they intended to stop watching the AMC drama and ratings did drop somewhat for the first part of the season. In response, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd said, "We were able to look at the feedback on the level of violence. We did tone it down for episodes we were still filming for later on in the season." "The Walking Dead" has always been gruesome, but the deaths-by-beating of Glenn and Abraham were particularly visceral. "Our show's not a success if no one cares when you kill off main characters," Hurd noted. "[Fans] let us know they were heartbroken." While Hurd believes there is a bit of disconnect between what people saw and what they thought they saw, she declared, "This is not a show that is torture porn ... Let's make sure we don't cross that line." "The Walking Dead" returns for the second part of season 7 on Sunday, Feb. 12. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch a Video of Hidden Easter Eggs in Pixar Movies Posted: Pixar loves to hide Easter eggs in its movies, and finding them has become something of a sport for fans. To help viewers who didn't quite see some of these eggs, Pixar released a video on Facebook revealing some of these fun references. The connections between all of their movies fuels the "Pixar Theory" that they all exist in the same universe. Some of the Easter eggs include a memory in "Inside Out" of Riley and her parents checking out a dinosaur figure — that looks a lot like Forrest the Styracosaurus in "The Good Dinosaur." There's a carving of Sully from "Monsters Inc." that Merida sees in "Brave." Lightning McQueen of "Cars" is a toy in the background of "Toy Story." And on and on ... Who knows what Easter eggs Pixar will hide in upcoming movies like "Cars 3" and "The Incredibles 2"? Keep a sharp eye out. Want more stuff like this? NBC Confirms 'Will & Grace' Revival: Watch New Reunion Teaser Posted: They're baaaaack! It's official: NBC confirmed the return of "Will & Grace" for a 10-episode limited revival, to star the original cast and air during the 2017-2018 season. Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally will anchor the show, NBC announced Wednesday at the TCAs, and OG creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan will act as showrunners and executive producers. According to Entertainment Weekly, director James Burrows -- who directed the show's entire run from 1998-2006 -- is also back to direct and executive produce. There were rumors that this was coming, but now it is not only confirmed, it is confirmed with its own reunion teaser video: As Mutchnick said in a statement (via EW), "Dave [Kohan] and I are absolutely thrilled about the opportunity to write what Will, Grace, Jack and Karen are thinking about in 2017." We can imagine what they each think about the new president, but it should be fun to see them in action. "Will & Grace" ended after eight seasons, so perhaps we should call the 2017-2018 revival Season 9? Stay tuned for more details on the story, guest stars, and premiere date. Oscars 2017 Host Jimmy Kimmel Admits Anxiety: 'I Just Hope Matt Damon Loses' Posted: Are you ready for the 2017 Oscars? First-time host Jimmy Kimmel is not. He admitted to TheWrap that he's been having nightmares about it, and not just because it's possible Matt Damon could win another trophy. Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced this coming Tuesday morning, Jan. 24. The ceremony itself airs live Sunday, Feb. 26 on ABC. Kimmel told TheWrap he's "a ball of anxiety" about hosting the Oscars, admitting a fear of failing that drives him every day. He already revealed his low pay for the job, which might set a low bar if he didn't know tens of millions of people would still be watching around the world. It's not clear what we'll get from him (although his gig hosting the 2016 Emmys was probably a hint) but he acknowledged that "sensitivity" is not his strong suit and he gets a "thrill out of edgy material." His longtime (fake) feud with Matt Damon is hardly edgy, but fans can probably expect a few jokes at Damon's expense as well. Damon is not likely to be nominated in any acting categories, but he is a producer on "Manchester by the Sea," which has a strong chance of being a Best Picture nominee. That would put Damon in the audience as a potential winner, and speaker, if the film wins Best Picture. (Damon already has an Oscar for writing "Good Will Hunting" with Ben Affleck.) TheWrap had some fun with the Kimmel/Damon feud in a few Q&A snippets:
Ahhh. The world is ever-changing around us, but the Kimmel/Damon feud remains a constant. It's our comfort food. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
John Oliver's Hilarious 'Last Week Tonight' Promo Teases 3 Other HBO Shows Posted: "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" Season 4 is going to have an absolute field day with the politics of 2017, but HBO's new promo takes a much lighter tone. It also cleverly teases three of its other returning shows in the same minute-and-a-half spot. The promo starts with a clear look at the "Game of Thrones" Iron Throne as a voice-over teases, "In 2017, HBO's biggest Sunday night show returns..." And out pops John Oliver, mistaking the promo to mean his show. Nope! They also don't mean "Last Week Tonight" when teasing "the fourth season of HBO's smash hit comedy." Instead, "Silicon Valley" star Kumail Nanjiani mocks Oliver as "an acquired taste" at best.
HBO also does not mean "Last Week Tonight" when promoting "the long awaited return of the HBO show everyone's been waiting for." Nope. That's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which has been away for five years. Why? Because, as Larry David explains, he's been "busy." With "things." Here's the promo:Despite the typically self-deprecating tone, fans are dying to see John Oliver again in "Last Week Tonight," which returns Sunday, February 12 at 11 p.m. on HBO. 'The Nut Job 2' Trailer Explodes With Tasty Tomfoolery Posted: Yep, they made a sequel to "The Nut Job." Just go with it. In "The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature," Will Arnett's Surly the squirrel returns to try and stop Oakton's crooked mayor (Bobby Moynihan) from destroying Liberty Park and turning it into an amusement park. Open Road Films just released the first official trailer for "The Nut Job 2," and it literally explodes -- more than once! -- with nutty food references and other wacky kid-friendly shenanigans. At the very least it may make you hungry. Watch the trailer:According to Box Office Mojo, the 2014 movie cost around $42 million to make and made $64 million domestically and $56 million around the world, for a total north of $120 million. It had the biggest opening weekend ever for an independent animated feature film, which would be why we're getting another one. This sequel was originally scheduled to come out January 15 of 2016, but obviously got pushed back. Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Maya Rudolph, Gabriel Iglesias, and Jeff Dunham are all back from the original film, which has added Jackie Chan, Bobby Cannavale, and Peter Stormare, in addition to Bobby Moynihan. "The Nut Job 2" opens August 18. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Gal Gadot & Jason Statham Kick Butt in Early Super Bowl 2017 Ad Posted: We're only a couple of weeks away from Super Bowl LI, and you know what that means: The Commercials Are Coming. Cute puppies, majestic horses, and hot people selling things aren't clear in the ads -- they all await us Sunday, February 5. Wix.com got a head start with its first Big Game spot featuring "Fast & Furious" stars Jason Statham and Gal Gadot -- who are both known for spy films and, in her case, for being Wonder Woman. The website builder released its first Super Bowl spot on Tuesday, showing the action stars take down some bad guys in a restaurant, while an oblivious chef creates his website in the kitchen. Here's Wix's blurb with the YouTube clip:
According to Ad Age, Wix's Super Bowl campaign -- shot by "Transporter" director Louis Leterrier -- will include eight to 10 short films, as well as the 30-second spot that will actually air in the big game. Here's the first ad:Watch more Super Bowl commercials (and some kind of sports game?) on February 5 on Fox. [via Ad Age, Entertainment Weekly] Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Matthew McConaughey Reveals How He Gained (Then Lost) 47 Pounds for 'Gold' Posted: Matthew McConaughey is used to losing weight for movies -- including the 38 pounds he lost for his Oscar-winning role in "Dallas Buyers Club" -- but "Gold" marked the first time he had to gain weight without also gaining muscle. You may think gaining weight is easier than losing weight ... and you'd be right! It's also more fun. McConaughey told E! News he was "Captain Fun" around his house during the six months he worked to gain 47 pounds; his kids loved it because Dad said yes to everything they wanted to eat, making pizza night every night -- and morning.
He also stopped exercising, which makes sense if you want to gain weight without muscle.
It's a gluttony and sloth dream come true, but what happens when it's time to lose the weight? Well, McConaughey's genes helped him out there, since his body -- even at age 47 -- seems to want to be lean and lanky.
But it still took patience, and he still feels like he's not quite back to how he was yet. McConaughey told Entertainment Tonight his mom had a strong reaction to the transformation.
To play gold prospector Kenny Wells, McC not only gained weight, he shaved his head, wore a toupee, and wore a set of veneers. But he loved it, and he told ET he loves the character:
"Gold" will be released wide on January 27. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Game of Thrones' Season 7: A Rumored Return Further Confirms Leak Posted: *Warning: Potential "Game of Thrones" Season 7 spoilers ahead.* A character we didn't think we'd see again will reportedly be seen again in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. It's unexpected, and yet not that surprising since it, too, fits with the rumored full-season leak. Watchers on the Wall noticed that the agency resume of actor David Bradley, aka The Late Walder Frey, was updated to include Season 7. They also noticed that it wrongly lists Season 2 instead of Season 3, which isn't the best sign. It's possible, if Bradley's Walder Frey does return, it's in flashbacks. But if Season 7 follows the leaks out there, he'll be seen via one of Arya Stark's Faceless tricks. You'll recall that Arya killed the wonderfully terrible Walder at the end of Season 6, for his role in the Red Wedding. According to the Season 7 leak originally posted to Reddit (via Daily Mail):
Here endeth the male Freys? Dang, Arya is savage. She finally returns to her homeland, and instead of trying to find her family, her first instinct is to use the talents she just picked up to trick and slaughter her enemies? Ned would be scared of his little girl. More leak spoilers were confirmed -- or appeared to be confirmed -- by certain actors recently arriving in Iceland to shoot some pivotal scenes. It is very possible that fans who want to know everything that happens really can just follow the leaks. It's a shame for HBO, but not too different from the early seasons when you could just pick up one of George R.R. Martin's books and know the basics. Seeing it play out will still be very different. 'Grey's Anatomy's' Sarah Drew Teases 'Pivotal' Japril Episode Airing in March Posted: Are "Grey's Anatomy's" April and Jackson actually on their way to happy ending? Well, let's see what a road trip does to their relationship. Sarah Drew, who plays one half of the up-and-down couple, says that there's a big Japril episode ahead as the series resumes its 13th season that will have the oft-dallying doctors on a business trip together ... away from the confines of Grey Sloan Memorial. Meanwhile, the actress -- the mother of two children with her husband, academian Peter Lanfer -- admits that, as thrilled as she was to dive back into the "Grey's" drama, there's a pang of mommy guilt every time she heads off to work. Moviefone: What can you say about where we're picking up with April and Jackson as the season restarts? Sarah Drew: Well, there's a lot of fun things in store, especially for Japril coming up. We have actually -- it's going to air in March -- but a whole episode dedicated just to the two of us, where we go on a trip to Montana together for a case, a throat transplant. And it's really pivotal for the two of them, individually and also as a pair. But it's a really incredible opportunity for them to be kind of still and have to face one another with nothing else distracting them out of the normal environment. And we're really, really proud of it. Kevin McKidd directed it. It's very different, tonally, than a lot of the other episodes. There's a lot of quiet space and stillness. It's not like frantic and moving super-fast. And it's really lovely. How do you feel about them as a couple? Are they meant to be together? Yes -- yeah. I think so. I mean, they've been through so much, and they still have so much love for one another. And they just need to get past their sh*t. As an actress, you're not like, "Can you bring in somebody new to kiss?" Nah. I already have two men that I'm regularly making out with. They don't need to throw another one in there! How is your husband with this onscreen relationship? It's always weird, but what's wonderful is that both Jesse [Williams] and I are super-professional. And we always have been. And super-married. Super-married, super-have-children. There's a really good separation that exists, but we have a really great working relationship together. We're good friends. It's totally safe in terms of my husband's perspective. How's mommyhood treating you? My daughter just turned two, and my son is about to turn five. And we're doing a "Harry Potter" birthday party because we've been reading the "Harry Potter" books. My husband has been reading them to him, and so he's on the second to last one. And he is, like, incredibly invested. My son is also obsessed with all things costume. He loves dressing up. So it's a costume party. Everybody has to come. So my daughter is Professor Umbridge. I'm Tonks, and he's Harry, obviously. And my husband is Mr. Weasley. As you headed back to work after hiatus, did you feel a little pang of parental guilt? Oh, yes. I feel like the whole women-can-have-it-all -- there are elements about that that are definitely true, yes. But I also feel like it's kind of a great, big lie. I say that only because I agree that women can have all of the elements, one-hundred percent they can. But there will always be a tug and a push and a pull, and you will always feel like you're sacrificing something for something else -- always. I don't know how anybody can ever get around that. It is inherent in our DNA, and maybe people would disagree with me. But that has been my experience. I will say there are times when my daughter reaches for the nanny before she reaches for me, and my heart breaks a little. But I really, really love my job. And I'm a much more present mom because I go and do something that I love a lot, and I feel very fulfilled by it. And I come home refreshed and energized to be mom. So it's an interesting balance. And I think I'm going to be challenged by it forever, and I welcome that challenge. And it's a good challenge. Have you ever been taken in by the breadth of medical information you've recited on the show and think, "I think I know what's wrong with you"? No, no. Do not trust me with anything medically related! The only thing that I feel like I've gleaned is that when my kids fall and clonk their heads, I immediately check their pupils to see if one is bigger than another. And I keep them awake for a while to make sure, and stimulate them to make sure they're not getting drowsy. There are a lot of things that I feel like I've said as a "doctor" and then I find myself doing. When you've had some time off, what's it like that first day back on the "Grey's Anatomy" set? It's interesting, because on the one hand, I'm super-psyched to be back because I love my job. I really do -- I love the people that I work with, and I crave routine so intensely. But being home with the kids for the whole two-week Christmas break ... "Where's the nanny now?" Yes, that's exactly what I was saying every, single day. [Laughs] Oh, that sounds horrible, and now I have a pang of mommy guilt by saying that out loud. But there you go. It is a whole other job that is as consuming and requires different emotional gymnastics than work does. And, sometimes, the emotional gymnastics at work are a hell of a lot easier than the emotional gymnastics at home with the children. So it's different. I crave the balance. I crave having time there and time at home. That's when I am absolute happiest. "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 returns Thursday, January 26, on ABC. Gerald McRaney Knows Why You Love 'This Is Us' (and Dr. K) Posted: Just when you think you were becoming accustomed to the tear-jerking charms of "This Is Us," along comes Gerald McRaney to give you yet another great big cry. NBC's first-season supershow pulled out all the stops in its flashback-only episode "The Big Day," which not only fills in some poignant details around the birth of Jack and Rebecca's babies but also offered a moving showcase for TV vet McRaney ("Simon & Simon," "Major Dad," "Deadwood," "House of Cards") with a storyline featuring the increasingly recurring physician Dr. Nathan Katowsky. Dr. K is growing more vital to the Pearson clan's history, and, as McRaney tells Moviefone, the role is just what the doctor ordered. Moviefone: How lovely to learn the extent of Dr. K's backstory. Gerald McRaney: It was obvious in the pilot how close Dr. K was to his wife. So they just embroidered that quite a bit. It's a lovely, lovely backstory. I love how the whole theme of it gets so wonderfully woven, and everyone is now moving on with their lives. In spite of bad things happening to them, they're moving on. The thing I love about this whole show is that there are no bad people in it. It's all good people, overcoming some bad things, but they're all good people. These are people that I want to sit and have coffee with. Was there a moment or a scene where you choked up or that you had difficulty with? A couple of them, yeah ... It's just imagining losing my wife, and where that would put me, and you're there. It's not a very pleasant place to go. Do you have any advance word that there was going to be an episode like this, with such a wonderful acting opportunity for you? No. I wondered who I had to pay off, basically, for writing such a great role. This is phenomenal writing. It's a gift for an actor to play stuff like this. Keep this under your hat, but this stuff I would do for free. When you shot the pilot, you couldn't know how big this whole thing would blow up. What was your reaction after the show premiered and critics and audience loved it? Primarily, that they wanted me to come back and do more -- I had no idea what happened. This was a guest star role on somebody's pilot, and to be invited back several times now is really a nice compliment, and a treat. That's the other thing about working on this show: It is populated by the same kind of people that their characters are. Everybody who works on this show, they're just great people. They've got phenomenal talent, and there's not a prima donna in the whole cast on up. It's a very pleasant place to work. When you hear from the viewers who have embraced this show and just feel so warmly about it, what that's like for you to be able to interact with the fans of the show? I got an email from a friend of mine, a lady that I'd gone to high school with who said, "This is the kind of doctor everybody wants to have. This is the man you want to go to if you're sick, if there's something really wrong with you; you want that guy talking to you." And that's been basically the kind of response that I've gotten. The other night I was out to dinner and a couple stopped me on my way out to tell me how much they like the show. I was very complimented. The gentleman said, "I'm a physician, and you brought so much humanity to that doctor." So that was nice. Everything is pretty much along those lines. I think people are gratified that there's such a positive show on the air. What was it like seeing this episode? Your performance is so crucial. It's a little frightening, quite frankly. I don't like looking at myself. I never have. All these people here, so good. Phenomenal. The young lady who played the fireman's wife is somebody that I recommended. She and I did a play together in New York several years ago now -- Virginia Call. She's just terrific. I was so pleased. I felt a little like her dad, looking up there and saying, "My kid did good." Did you ever have a doctor like this in your own life? Yeah. Yeah. I did. The whole time I was growing up. He was this kind of doctor who didn't just examine you and send you off to somebody else to do the lab work and this, that, and the other thing. He sat and he talked with you. He was the doctor, took care of stuff. And you felt when you went to him, everything was going to be OK. You've had a lot of great roles on a lot of great shows over a lot of years. Where does this one rank? Right at the top. Right at the top. The writing -- that's what starts everything for me is good writing. If the writing is good, then it's fun to work on. Like every actor, I've done stuff to pay the rent, with bad writing. There's just no comparison. This sort of thing is just a joy. It doesn't matter the particular style that a good writer has. Good writing is good writing. And whether it's Dan Fogelman, whether it's David Milch, it doesn't matter. The quality is what matters, not the style of it. Styles, they change. But the quality of writing, and it's the humanity of the writer that makes it happen. "This Is Us" airs Tuesdays on NBC. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
