The 'Sherlock' Season 4 Finale 'Will Blow You Away'

Posted:

The first two episodes of "Sherlock" Season 4 brought multiple shocks, and Sunday's finale is ready to blow fans away with more -- making you laugh, cry, and scream. The third episode, "The Final Problem," was written by show creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and the vague synopsis just warns that "long-buried secrets catch up with Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman)."

Some lucky fans and critics got an early look at the episode at a screening on Thursday. Here are a few reactions:

Here's the Episode 3 promo:At the screening, Moffat said a fifth season is "possible," but he didn't confirm. He and Gatiss also shared more details on Episode 2's major revelation, and you can read details on that spoiler over here.

New 'Prison Break' Season 5 Trailer Sets Viewing Record

Posted:

With so many eyes on Michael Scofield, it's going to be tough for him to disappear again.

The "Prison Break" 2017 limited series revival -- aka "Prison Break" Season 5 -- premieres April 4 on Fox. A second extended trailer for the series was released January 11, teasing "This year breaking out is just the beginning." A lot of fans watched that beginning play out in the new trailer, which set a new 24-hour viewing record for the network. It became Fox's fastest-growing trailer by the afternoon of Jan. 11, earning 42 million organic views from Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. As of late Friday afternoon, Deadline reports, the trailer had crossed the milestone of 50 million views -- 49 million views just on Facebook, plus more than 705,000 on YouTube, with 50,000 retweets and likes on Twitter.

According to Deadline, "Prison Break" Season 5 -- starring OGs Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) and Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows) -- "is set in Yemen with ISIS and ISA in the mix. While Michael is presumably dead, he really isn't and he winds up working for an 'organization.' He's thrown in a Yemen jail, realizes he's been set-up and tries to stage a prison break."

"Prison Break" returns on Tuesday, April 4 at 9 p.m. on Fox.

'Game of Thrones' Actor Sightings May Confirm Major Season 7 Spoilers

Posted:

Warning: Potential "Game of Thrones" Season 7 spoilers ahead. HUGE ones. Fly away, sweet summer child, if you want to stay pure!

A Girl really wanted to ignore the rumored leak of the entire "Game of Thrones" Season 7 plot, but ... scenes keep getting confirmed. Here's another one.

According to the script leak (which started on Reddit and went from there), Jon brings a wight to the Dragonpit in King's Landing to convince a large group of characters that the Seven Kingdoms need to unite against the true threat north of the Wall. To get the wight, Jon had taken a team north; that team reportedly included Tormund Giantsbane, Beric Dondarrion, The Hound, Thoros of Myr, Jorah, and -- it seems -- even the long-absent Gendry.

Here's part of what happens next, as relayed in the Daily Mail:

"But they are attacked and surrounded on an island on a frozen lake by the Night's King, where Thoros is killed by a wight polar bear (meaning Beric is down to his last life). Jon Snow's uncle Benjen AKA Coldhands is also killed protecting Jon.

The group are rescued by Daenerys and her three dragons - but not before Viserion is killed by the Night's King.

He then resurrects the dragon as his own mount - who now breathes blue flame - and uses him to destroy The Wall."

That sounds cool as hell, although very sad for Thoros, Coldhands, and Viserion. But if that's confirmed then it suggests other things we really don't want to be true are also probably true. (Other bits have already been confirmed through Watchers on the Wall filming spoilers.)

Watchers on the Wall recently shared intel that seemed to confirm the wight storyline spoilers, with Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr), and Joe Dempsie (Gendry) photographed in Iceland.

Big Spoiler!! Joe Dempsie (Gendry) and Paul Kaye (Thoros de Myr) are also in Iceland filming for S7! 😰

And here's a photo from a few weeks ago in Northern Ireland, where GoT filming is based, showing Jorah, Tormund, and Benjen/Coldhands:

Now here's WotW tying everything together, like that rug in "The Big Lebowski":

"Dempsie and his character, the bastard blacksmith Gendry, have been absent from Game of Thrones since season three when he rowed off to parts unknown. Dempsie turned up on the set of Thrones in October during Spain filming, shooting with Liam Cunningham (Davos) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion). Later photos showed Gendry taking off in a boat with Jon Snow, Davos, and Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen).

Back in September, we learned Kaye would be returning as Thoros, the Brotherhood without Banners' red priest. So how does he wind up with Gendry, filming in Iceland which plays the part of the icy land beyond the Wall? Season 7 spoilers have indicated the Brotherhood will be teaming up with Jon's crew on a dangerous mission involving wights. The actors' arrival in Iceland is another piece of confirmation of the early spoiler reports."

What's true? What's false? What's in between? We won't know for sure until "Game of Thrones" premieres this summer. But if the entire script for the whole season was leaked in advance ... man ... someone is going to get Ned Stark'd by D&D.

'Fargo' Couple Kirsten Dunst & Jesse Plemons Are Engaged: Reports

Posted:

Premiere Of FX's 'Fargo' Season 2 - After PartyEd and Peggy are gettin' hitched? You betcha! Sources told Page Six (and Entertainment Tonight and Us Weekly) that "Fargo" Season 2 co-stars Kirsten Dunst, 34, and Jesse Plemons, 28, are engaged.

Page Six says they got engaged over Golden Globes weekend, but Entertainment Tonight pointed out that Dunst was seen wearing a diamond on her ring finger back at the Palm Springs Film Festival on Jan. 2, and was seen wearing the ring again during an early January appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden."

Either way, the two stars in question have not confirmed anything, and we shouldn't expect any kind of statement. They were seen smooching in L.A. back in May, but they have kept this relationship very private.

Dunst, now seen in "Hidden Figures," and "Friday Night Lights" alum Plemons played the married (with no children but many problems) Blumquists in the second season of "Fargo," which aired in 2015 on FX. This will be the first marriage for both stars.

There must be something in the on-set water, since "Fantastic Four" co-stars Kate Mara and Jamie Bell also just announced their engagement. Congrats!

Jennifer Morrison: Emma Might Not Be in 'Once Upon a Time' Season 7

Posted:

ONCE UPON A TIME - "Operation Mongoose, Part 1 and Part 2" - The Author proves to be a formidable wild card and forges an alliance with Gold. Emma, her parents, Hook and Regina scramble to stop them, but when Gold and the Author turn the tables on heroes and villains alike, the prospect of any happy outcome appears worlds away. Henry discovers he has big shoes to fill as he steps up to save his family before the story's final page is turned. It's a race to the finish, and everything culminates with a shocking twist that will leave the residents of Storybrooke reeling, in the captivating two-part season finale of "Once Upon a Time," SUNDAY, MAY 10 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Jack Rowand)JENNIFER MORRISONIs there even a "Once Upon a Time" without its Savior?!

Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) told Will Malnati's podcast, "The Drop-In" that the whole cast is "in a holding pattern right now" as they await news from ABC about a potential Season 7. Season 6 is still airing -- it'll return March 5 -- but the showrunners and ABC entertainment boss just scared the dearies out of fans by suggesting that if there even is a next season, it might be a "reset" that includes brand new cast members. (Serious question: WHO ASKED FOR THAT?)

So basically Morrison & Co. (cool new potential Storybrooke law firm) are waiting by the phones. Here's what she told the podcast:

"My contract ends in April on 'Once Upon a Time.' I don't know what that means. They haven't picked up the show officially yet — they might, they might not. We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show — and if they do continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now."

The Powers That Be have talked about wanting to give the show a worthy ending, whenever that comes, and that's what Morrison wants as well. She continued...

"I have a really fierce loyalty to the show. I am fiercely protective of the character. I feel like so many amazing things have come to my life because of it. It's really made my life better in so many ways. I don't have any interest in abandoning something that is such a special part of my life, but I also know I don't have it in me to do it forever, so it's more about a life decision, and I don't even know how to make that life decision until I know what ABC even wants."

Well, we're all on tenterhooks now. Listen to the full podcast here. Worried fans have shown their love for OUAT by tweeting #RenewOUAT, hoping for a happy ending for several characters, including Emma. No, especially Emma.

Darth Vader's Big 'Rogue One' Scene Was Added in Reshoots

Posted:

Rogue OneOne of the best scenes in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was added at the last minute.

Remember the scene where Darth Vader effortlessly chops down a bunch of rebel soldiers with his lightsaber? That almost didn't exist. As editor John Gilroy told Yahoo TV, it was added in the extensive reshoots.

"What was added — and it was a fantastic add — was the Vader action scene, with him boarding the ship and dispatching all those rebel soldiers," he said. "That was something conceptualized a little later."

"Rogue One" underwent a lot of tweaking, and the end, in particular, was changed quite a bit. Gilroy came on board to help edit the new footage shot by his brother, Tony Gilroy. Together, they worked with director Gareth Edwards to fine-tune the last act. Adding that last Vader scene heightens the drama, as the rebels desperately try to escape with the Death Star plans.

As Gilroy said, "It was a really great punch in the arm and something I think fans wanted to see."

Premiere Of Lionsgate Premiere's 'Man Down' - ArrivalsKate Mara and Jamie Bell, who met while filming the "Fantastic Four" reboot, have gotten engaged.

The couple met when they made the "Fantastic Four" in 2014. She played Sue Storm, he played the Thing. Their relationship became public a year later at the Met Gala and since then, they've appeared together at many events and red carpets.

'The Exorcist' Author William Peter Blatty Dies at 89

Posted:

The MOMA's Special Screening Of 'The Exorcist Extended Director's Cut'William Peter Blatty, the author who penned the novel that inspired horror film classic "The Exorcist," has died. He was 89.

Blatty's widow, Julie Alicia Blatty, confirmed the news to The Associated Press, telling the outlet that Blatty passed away at a hospital near his home in Bethesda, Maryland. She said that the cause of death was multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

First published in 1971, "The Exorcist" told the story of a young girl who was possessed by a satanic force, inspired by a real-life incident that Blatty -- who grew up Catholic -- had read about while attending college. The book was an immediate hit, spending more than a year on the New York Times bestseller list, and moving more than 10 million copies throughout its print run.

More success followed with the film version, released in 1973, which was written and produced by Blatty and starred a young Linda Blair as the possessed Regan. The film was considered revolutionary at the time, featuring now-iconic imagery of a head-spinning, vomiting child, and audiences were literally sickened by the shocking flick. Religious figures condemned "The Exorcist," but that didn't stop it from racking up more than $400 million at the worldwide box office (a then-whopping sum for an R-rated feature), as well as 10 Academy Award nominations. It took home two trophies, including one for Blatty's screenplay.

Four film sequels followed, but only one, "The Exorcist III," had Blatty's direct involvement, with the author both writing and directing the 1990 flick. (He adapted his own novel, 1983's "Legion," for that film.) He also wrote and directed 1980's "The Ninth Configuration" (based on a revised version of one of his earlier novels, "Twinkle, Twinkle, 'Killer Kane'"), for which he received a Golden Globe Award for best screenplay. In addition to those adaptations, he wrote several screenplays in the 1960s, including those for the Blake Edwards films "A Shot in the Dark" and "What Did You Do In the War, Daddy?"

Blatty is survived by his wife and his eight children.

'Shameful' Michael Jackson 'Urban Myths' Episode Cancelled After Backlash

Posted:

Looks like we won't be watching British actor Joseph Fiennes portray late superstar Michael Jackson after all: Sky Arts has officially pulled the episode of comedy series "Urban Myths" that was to have featured the odd casting choice, after a public outcry from Jackson's family and fans.

In a statement, the UK channel explained that it decided to cancel the episode, about a rumored road trip that Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marlon Brando reportedly took together after the events of September 11, 2001. According to the statement, the main motivation was the backlash from Jackson's family, who were offended by Fiennes's casting.

The statement said:

We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series. This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson's immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.

When the first trailer for the series debuted earlier this week (the segment has since been scrubbed from the show's promos), the network initially stuck by its programming. The "Urban Myths" tagline says it's made up of "True...ish Stories," after all, and Sky Arts released a statement that reaffirmed producers' creative freedom.

But Jackson's daughter, Paris, was particularly upset by the promo, and tweeted out her unequivocal disapproval, noting she was "incredibly offended" and that Fiennes's portrayal made her "want to vomit." She also called the episode "insulting" and "shameful."

The rest of the eight-episode series is still set for air, and will debut on Sky Arts on January 19.

George R.R. Martin Says 'Winds of Winter' Could Get 2017 Release (Maybe)

Posted:

HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 5 - San Francisco PremiereAuthor George R.R. Martin, whose "A Song of Ice and Fire" series is the inspiration behind HBO hit "Game of Thrones," has been notoriously tight-lipped about progress on the long-awaited sixth novel in the anthology, "The Winds of Winter." And while a new update from the writer has some fans believing that the tome could finally see the light of day this year, Martin's words strongly suggest that we shouldn't hold our breaths, either.

Martin made his first statement in many months about progress on "Winter" while replying to a recent comment on his blog. The author initially wasn't going to say anything about the book (the post in question was lamenting the playoffs loss of his beloved NFL team, the New York Giants, and "Thrones" getting shut out at the Golden Globe Awards), but a fan decided to ask Martin for some news on box six anyway -- and Martin actually responded.

Noting that his vague comments probably wouldn't make much difference to fans anyway, Martin nonetheless offered what little he could by way of an update. And while his reply contains a tentative plan to release the tome sometime in 2017, there's also plenty of caution thrown in to dampen the optimism.

Here's what the author had to say about the status of "Winds of Winter":

Not done yet, but I've made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now.

I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).

Martin makes it clear that this is really a non-update update, and his refusal to commit to a finish date -- let alone a release date -- should indicate just how unofficial a potential 2017 release should be considered. While we've been briefly fooled before by past promises of a spring 2016 release and a March 2017 release, we know better than to expect anything concrete until Martin and/or his publishers publicly announce a publication date.

The moral of the story: "Winter" is coming. We just have no idea when.

Disney Considering a CGI Carrie Fisher for Future 'Star Wars' Movies: Report

Posted:

carrie fisher, princess leia, general organa, star wars, future, cgi, digitalWhen an actor unexpectedly passes away in the midst of production on a movie, it can throw the entire film into chaos, as the creative team scrambles to either recast the person in question, or rewrite the flick to explain away their absence. But what about when it happens in the midst of shooting an epic, blockbuster trilogy based on the most famous sci-fi franchise of all time -- but after part two has already wrapped?

That's the problem facing Disney and the producers of the "Star Wars" series after actress Carrie Fisher suddenly passed away late last month. Fisher had already completed work on "Episode VIII" before she died, but it was later revealed that she was to have a significantly more important role in the next film in the franchise, "Episode IX." Filmmakers are still struggling to figure out what to do -- director Colin Trevorrow has apparently been powwowing with the folks at Disney to come up with a solution -- and according to a new report, there's apparently one scenario they're weighing more heavily than others.

BBC Newsnight recently ran a piece about CGI characters in film, and discussed the technique's use in "Rogue One," which featured the digital resurrection of deceased-since-1994 Peter Cushing, and the creation of an age-reversed Fisher as Princess Leia. The piece is only available to viewers in the UK, but fan site Star Wars News was able to watch it, and reports that the story confirmed Disney is in talks with Fisher's estate to continue using her likeness in future installments of "Star Wars."

Here's the pertinent quote from the piece, per Star Wars News:

"And [in] what might be regarded as unseemly haste, Disney is negotiating with the actor's estate over her continued appearance in the franchise. If Disney gets the go-ahead, Carrie Fisher will join Peter Cushing..."

Star Wars News cuts things off there, so that's not a lot of info to go on. Could this piece be indicating that there are no plans to change the current plot of "Episode IX," and Fisher-as-Leia will continue to be a main character? Or will she simply be a peripheral presence? (Star Wars News suggests some hologram cameos.)

Whatever the plan is, it's not likely Disney and Lucasfilm will divulge it anytime soon. We just hope that whatever route they take, it's respectful, and does both Fisher and Leia justice.

"Star Wars: Episode IX" is due in theaters on May 23, 2019.

James Corden Joins 'Ocean's Eight' Cast

Posted:

US-ENTERTAINMENT-20TH ANNUAL HOLLYWOOD FILM AWARDSLate night host James Corden is swapping singing with celebrities on TV for acting alongside them on the big screen, with the comedian joining the glittery cast of "Ocean's Eleven" spinoff flick "Ocean's Eight."

Deadline reports that Corden will take a detour from "The Late Late Show" and Carpool Karaoke to shoot a supporting role in "Eight," which revolves around the titular group of female thieves. Here's the character breakdown, according to the trade: "As the group plans and executes a heist in New York, Corden will play an insurance investigator who grows suspicious of them."

That group includes a jaw-dropping list of Hollywood talent, featuring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina. Matt Damon, who starred in the original "Ocean's" flicks, will also have a small cameo.

Unlike last year's "Ghostbusters" reboot featuring an all-female cast, "Ocean's Eight" is purely a spinoff, occupying the same universe and adopting a similar tone and premise, but otherwise serving as a completely separate entity from the "Eleven" trilogy. It centers around the titular women trying to pull off a heist at the Met Gala, the glitzy annual fashion-centric event held in New York City. The film is shooting in NYC now.

"Ocean's Eight" is due in theaters on June 8, 2018.
