Diego Luna 'Got Emotional' Reading This Touching 'Rogue One' Fan Post

Posted:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story..L to R: Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)..Ph: Jonathan Olley..© 2016 Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved.Anyone who doesn't get why diversity on film/TV is such a big deal, please read the tumblr post below, reshared by "Rogue One" star Diego Luna.

Luna, who was born in Mexico City, stars in the "Star Wars" standalone film as Rebel Alliance Captain Cassian Andor. He plays a main character, and he retains his own thick accent in the role. That might not sound like a much to many viewers, but it meant the world to a fan and her Mexican father.

Here's the heartwarming post that tugged at the actor's heartstrings:

His tweet already has earned more than 112,000 likes after less than 24 hours.

The tumblr blogger noticed Diego Luna's reaction and got her father to react to the actor's reaction. (Phew! So meta.) So here's her thoroughly confused but happy dad:"Rogue One" is filled with diverse characters -- male characters, anyway. The main character is the white Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, but there isn't much diversity in terms of female representation. But the men are well represented from Diego Luna to Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, Jimmy Smits, Forest Whitaker, and beyond.

'The Walking Dead' Season 7: AMC Shares 14 Cryptic Teaser Photos

Posted:

It's the rubber duckies that confuse us most.

"The Walking Dead" Season 7 is returning from its winter hiatus on Sunday, February 12. AMC just shared 14 photos to tease the second half of Season 7. But that sounds better than the reality -- which is this show's perennial problem, so it's fitting. The reality is that the 14 photos are all of random items that have no definite context to us yet. There are peanuts, a bicycle, a hammer cracking nuts, melons, an upside-down bucket, etc.

Is Carol making more cookies? Will Daryl now ride a bicycle around? Will Carol and Daryl put the rubber duckies in a bath together to take Caryl to the next level? (Kidding. Unless it happens.) Will Rick Grimes ask the residents of Alexandria, Hilltop, Oceanside, and the Kingdom to throw peanuts at Negan to shame him off the stage? Are they all joining the circus?

Here's the photo gallery shared on the show's official Facebook page:

"Worlds collide," eh? Maybe that's something to keep in mind if you try to decipher the photos. We know 7B is meant to be the opposite of 7A, and Andrew Lincoln all but promised we'll be celebrating the season finale. (That would certainly be the opposite of the Season 6 finale.)

Tom Hardy Reads a Bedtime Story (With His Dog in His Lap) in Adorable Video

Posted:

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-REVENANTConfirmed: Tom Hardy is a big ol' softie. The Oscar-nominated actor is renowned for playing tough guys, but he can also entertain the young'uns. Just watch his recent video for the BBC's CBeebies Bedtime Story program, which is aimed at kids under 10.

Hardy read "You Must Bring a Hat" by Simon Philip and Kate Hindley, and -- like any self-respecting thespian -- he went full-out with different voices to act out the parts. Adding to the unmissable cuteness is the fact that his sleepy, blissed-out dog, Woody, was sprawled across his lap through the whole thing.

Here's the bedtime story:The segment aired Dec. 31 in the U.K. and left Hardy's fellow Brits swooning into the new year:

The next thing fans can watch from Tom Hardy is his new series "Taboo" which is much less family friendly. But you can certainly watch it around bedtime with a dog across your own lap when it premieres January 10 on FX.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, you are our only hope.

The second half of the season also features the first appearances by Rebel leader Mon Mothma and freedom fighter Saw Gerrera, both seen in "Rogue One."

"Star Wars Rebels" returns Saturday, January 7, at 8:30 p.m. on Disney XD.

James Van Der Beek Making 'What Would Diplo Do?' TV Show For Viceland

Posted:

26th Annual EMA Awards - ArrivalsWhat would James Van Der Beek do? Make a show called "What Would Diplo Do?"

Deadline reports that the former "Dawson's Creek" heartthrob has signed on to write, produce, and star in a scripted comedy for Viceland centering on a fictional version of DJ superstar Diplo.

The show is described as: "'Louie' meets ''WorldStar HipHop' crossed with 'This Is Spinal Tap,' Van Der Beek plays a fictional version of DJ superstar Diplo in collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet ... but kind of sucks one-on-one."

Van Der Beek told Deadline, "The show doesn't take itself too serious but it's not cynical."

"WWDD?" came about because the actor filmed a concert promo for Diplo's "Mad Decent Concert Party" last year, and Viceland liked it enough to want to turn it into its first scripted comedy. Van Der Beek has poked fun at his own persona before, like in "Don't Trust the B- in Apt 23." Now he'll turn that talent to portraying Diplo.

"I've enjoyed deconstructing my own image quite a bit over the years, but to have the chance to do it with a global megastar like Diplo who's letting us to do something fun and ridiculous that few people have the balls to allow is crazy," Van Der Beek said.

'Bright Lights' Trailer Highlights Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher's Deep Bond

Posted:

Mothers and daughters don't always see eye to eye, but their bonds are deep and unshakeable. And that was the case with Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.

The two actresses died within a day of each other and are set to be buried side by side after a joint memorial tomorrow. They'll also appear on screen together one last time in HBO's upcoming documentary "Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds."

HBO released a trailer for the doc, which is being released early due to their deaths. "Bright Lights" provides an intimate behind-the-scenes look at their lives, as Reynolds continues to perform in a Las Vegas show, while Fisher frets about her aging mother. The two women lived next door to each other in the same compound.

"My mother, she'll forget she's not 35," Fisher says as old family movies play in the trailer. "Age is horrible for all of us, but she falls from a greater height."

"Bright Lights" airs Jan. 7 on HBO.

Posted:

As expected, frontrunners "La La Land," "Manchester By the Sea," and "Moonlight" all scored nods in the original screenplay category. 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.': Clark Gregg Is 'Nervous Just Talking About' a Coulson & May Romance

Posted:

Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen in Marvel's AGENTS OF SHIELDIt's looking like the action may about to get even hotter for "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" perpetually under-fire operative Phil Coulson -- or make that steamier.

Coulson and his longtime colleague and increasingly close friend Melinda May have, of course, been through a multitude of Marvel Cinematic Universe wringers over three and half seasons, and in recent weeks it looks like the two espionage veterans may be inching closer to pushing their relationship beyond its professional boundaries.

It's a dicey proposition for the heroic agents, not to mention the show -- despite a very vocal fan contingent that's long been rooting for a Coulson-May hookup; as the show launches its new midseason "LMD" storyline on Jan. 10, even star Clark Gregg admits to Moviefone that he's feeling his own set of stomach-fluttering butterflies at the prospect, even given his potent chemistry with co-star Ming-Na Wen -- especially since May's been replaced with an A.I. duplicate.

Moviefone: How do you think the "Philinda" fans, the Coulson-May 'shippers, are going to feel about the latest turn the show is going to take? It's partly a dream come true, and partly not exactly what they've been crossing their fingers for, as it's not necessarily a given that's it's the real May he's getting closer with.

Clark Gregg: Yes, one of the things that goes on in television and in our universe now is our fans are very active. They make it known which romances they're interested in, which they're less interested in. Certainly, there have been very vocal supporters of what you call the Philinda relationship. I think in different moments, it's certainly something that has to have popped into the head of both Phil and Melinda.

I love the difficulty of it. I love how dangerous it is because this is a job where family relationships really are not possible in the normal sense. These people become family. She is so much more to him than a coworker. I think there's a reason that they've been working together for more than 20 years, off and on, without crossing that line, because it's a dangerous line to cross as everyone knows. Certainly, with the passing of Andrew Garner, her ex, and some of the business she did about that, something is different now, and that possibility is being explored.

I think some of the moments that we're not sure which Melinda we're dealing with, that's certainly a whole new part of the equation -- but I think that there's something going on in the actual Phil and the actual Melinda that is different. I don't know. I have really passionate feelings, pro and con, you know what I mean? We've all been in a situation like this with a very close friend, I think, and boy, it makes me nervous just talking about it.

Tell me about having those conversations with Ming to move this forward as you guys are figuring it out, developing that chemistry, and pushing it forward. What's been fun about collaborating with her?

There's a lot of chemistry just to begin with.

Ming kind of has that with everybody.

I know. It's true -- she's a chemistry-full person! There's always been something there. It's a little bit: these poor horses at some point should be let out of this barn before they kick the rest of the slats out. On the one hand, alright already! If it's going to happen, let's go! But nothing is that simple on this show.

I'm excited to play out the various permutations you mentioned. I'm wary of talking about them because I don't really know what's going to happen. If it's anything like the rest of the show for poor Coulson, it's going to end up in heartbreak.

Or another missing limb.

Yeah.

You mentioned that sense of family. At the close of the "Ghost Rider" arc, his S.H.I.E.L.D. "family" has reunited. It has to feel good for Coulson that his wayward children have come back into the fold. Tell me what that means to him and where that positions him going forward.

He's vastly relieved to have Daisy at least within sight of him on the base, but I think the idea that just because she's moved home means that the damage is healed, and the guilt that she feels is healed, is naive. He's too savvy. I think he knows that the person who comes back still is really hurting and not sure now to open up again. So it's hard. It's complex.

As Coulson learns more about Director Mace, he's an interesting character because we still don't know which way the wind blows with him, necessarily. Tell me a little bit about where that's going and what's been fun about discovering that relationship for you.

I love what the writers have done with the character Jeffrey Mace, the Patriot. We did not know what to make of him. He was very much someone we believed was thrust upon them. Later, we learn he's an Inhuman, and that Coulson requested an Inhuman to be running S.H.I.E.L.D., which is a very smart move. It puts Coulson back in the field, which he likes, and someone else is running S.H.I.E.L.D. and making decisions that he doesn't endorse quite often.

I also love that they haven't made him a villain, at least as far as I can tell. He's a flawed person who happens to have powers, which is a smart, logical extension of this idea of Terrigenesis. Some people are going to be weird PR freaks who may not be necessarily the greatest leaders who suddenly have powers.

What Jason [O'Mara] has done with him is so surprising and compelling that it's really hard for Coulson to hate the guy. There is something about him that wants to do the right thing and, as Coulson knows, has been thrust to an impossible job.

For you, what has been the creative thrill of this particular season, and as we move forward with Coulson now?

There's so much from the beginning, the reveal of HYDRA, the destruction of S.H.I.E.L.D., rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D., the Sokovia Accords -- I don't know. I guess, to have the HYDRA plot, the Grant Ward plot, really played out so magnificently and finished to a certain extent, for now anyway, and to be playing with new things, LMDs, the magical elements of the Marvel Universe that are connected to "Doctor Strange." That's exciting.

But I think our version of the Sokovia Accords, the way Inhumans are being treated as The Other, and registered, and treated as some kind of different species than the rest of us, though they didn't change because of any choice they made, I don't know, suddenly feels remarkably timely: I read about an idea of having a Muslim registry yesterday. I went, "Wow, OK."

We've heard that General Talbot is coming back, and I love the dynamic between Coulson and Talbot.

Me too!

What are you looking forward to? Do you want to see them butting heads? Do you want to see them on the same side and butting heads?

Usually, they end up trying to do the same thing with such radically different styles that they end up at each other's throats half of the time, but also, they've gradually built a lot of respect from when Talbot was first hunting us down.

We all get happy when Adrian Pasdar is going to show up with his magnificent mustache. Some of the stuff that's happened lately, there's actually been some scenes with me chasing O'Mara and Adrian Pasdar, and that's a little bit like, I don't know, some very masculine version of "The Three Stooges."

New episodes of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." return to ABC on January 10th.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 Return Photos Tease Prison Drama

Posted:

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is headed to the slammer. The ABC series returns Thursday, Jan. 19 after a two-month absence, and the midseason premiere does not look poised to provide major cliffhanger answers. Instead, it's sending three docs to jail -- none of them Alex Karev. And, as Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) previously warned, the script table read alone left the actresses involved "terrified."

Here's ABC's press release for Episode 10, "You Can Look (But You'd Better Not Touch)":

"Bailey, Arizona and Jo go to a maximum security women's prison to treat a violent, 16-year-old pregnant girl and her unborn baby, on the midseason premiere of "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, JANUARY 19 (8:00-9:01 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.

'Grey's Anatomy' stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Sarah Drew as April Kepner, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Jerrika Hinton as Stephanie Edwards, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Jason George as Ben Warren, Martin Henderson as Nathan Riggs and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.

Guest starring is Jasmin Savoy Brown as Amanda, Klea Scott as Dr. Eldredge and Anna Jacoby-Heron as Kristen.

'You Can Look (But You'd Better Not Touch)' was written by Tia Napolitano and directed by Jann Turner."

"The Leftovers" fans should recognize Jasmin Savoy Brown as Evie Murphy, a major player in Season 2. She's featured in some of ABC's promotional photos for the episode:

Rupert Friend: Quinn Is 'Basically Unrecognizable' in 'Homeland' Season 6

Posted:

The good -- and surprising -- news is that Peter Quinn will be alive at all in "Homeland" Season 6. However, he will no longer be the Quinn we've come to know and love (and lust after -- just being honest). Rupert Friend recently spoke about his character for the first time since the Season 5 finale, telling Entertainment Weekly that he basically got a call saying Quinn would die last year, only for the character to return in the 2017 season, which premieres January 15 on Showtime.

Showrunner Alex Gansa revealed to EW that Rupert Friend actually wrote the touching letter from Quinn to Carrie (Claire Danes) that Carrie read in the Season 5 finale. It looked like Carrie was about to put Quinn out of his misery, but Gansa said their intention was to leave the ending ambiguous.

Now we know that Quinn survived, but he will be very much changed in Season 6.

"Peter has been to hell and come back, and not necessarily come back in one piece," Friend told EW. "He's not really even sure if his life is one that's worth living. [...] 'Homeland' is doing something I don't think any TV show has done before, where you have a character in Season 6 and he's basically unrecognizable from the previous seasons. Some will say, 'But where's my old friend?' But that's not the way the world works."

EW compared Quinn's new storyline to Season 1's focus on Brody (Damien Lewis.) As Gansa put it, "One of the very first ideas [executive producer Howard Gordon] and I had when we talked about 'Homeland' was there was no show on television dramatizing the return of our soldiers from Iraq and Afganistan. So now we really get to watch a true causality of the war on terror."

"Homeland" Season 6, Episode 1, "Fair Game," airs Sunday, January 15 at 9 p.m. on Showtime. Here's the synopsis: "Carrie returns home to the US with Franny to work as an advocate for Muslim Americans. Dar and Saul brief President-elect Keane. Quinn struggles with his new circumstances."

Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds Grand Public Memorial to Feature Meryl Streep, 'Star Wars' Family

Posted:

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Press RoomAfter a private service and burial for mother and daughter icons Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, the family plans to hold a grand public memorial featuring many Hollywood celebrities.

According to TMZ, the private service will be held this Thursday, Jan. 5 at Forest Lawn in Burbank, where Carrie and Debbie will be buried side-by-side. No celebrities will be speaking at that service, the site reported, but Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd will speak if she feels up to it.

The public memorial has no set date yet, but Billie will be leading the plans for that event, once she gets past the private service. TMZ was told that the family has reached out to Meryl Streep to deliver the keynote eulogy at the public memorial, since Meryl played Carrie's part in Fisher's semi-autobiographical "Postcards from the Edge," and she was also close to Debbie.

US-ENTERTAINMENT-GOVERNORS-AWARDSThe family also plans to reach out to "Star Wars" actors to speak, including Mark Hamill, who has been sharing his own touching statements on social and other media. George Lucas is expected to attend the public memorial, but not speak.

If the public event continues on its current theme, it will be quite the Hollywood event. TMZ says Debbie's costumes from "Singin' in the Rain" will be on display, along with Carrie's Princess/General Leia costumes from "Star Wars."

Carrie and Debbie died within one day of each other -- Fisher on Dec. 27, at age 60, after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to L.A., then Reynolds on Dec. 28 at age 84, after suffering a stroke.

HBO is airing the documentary "Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds" this Saturday January 7 at 8 p.m. Here's the heartbreaking (but funny) official trailer:

'Dancing With the Stars' Pros Maks and Peta Welcome Son Shai

Samsung Celebrates Alec Monopoly's LEVEL Headphones CollaborationMake room for another Chmerkovskiy boy! "Dancing With the Stars" pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd has given birth to her first child, a son with fellow pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They just welcomed little Shai earlier today (Wednesday, Jan. 4).

Maks and Peta revealed their son's name and birth details via Twitter:

Maks's brother, fellow pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, posted an Instagram video yesterday saying he had to cancel that night's tour show because he was expecting to be an uncle very soon, as soon perhaps as he stopped filming the video, and he wanted to be there with the family. Maks also shared a photo of Peta in the hospital, preparing for delivery ... and freshening up for any cameras:

But first...a little make up 😝

A photo posted by @maksimc on

Maks, 36, and Peta, 30, got engaged in December 2015 after their on-and-off relationship started in 2012. The Ukraine-born hunk was previously engaged to DWTS pro Karina Smirnoff. Maks won DWTS Season 18 with Meryl Davis and competed in the most recent Season 23 with Amber Rose (who may or may not be now dating Val). Peta, who was raised in Australia, won Season 14 with Donald Driver, and Season 22 with Nyle DiMarco, but skipped this past fall 2016 season (which Val won, with Laurie Hernandez) due to her pregnancy. Maks has said he has no interest in being on Season 24 this coming spring 2017 because he wants to be a stay-at-home dad while Peta pursues her dreams.

Congrats to the happy family!

Dan Kay of 'Survivor: Gabon' Dies at Age 40

Posted:

The "Survivor" family is in mourning today after the unexpected death of Season 17 competitor Dan Kay. According to an obituary from a local funeral home, the Brookline, N.H., resident died unexpectedly on December 31, 2016. The cause of death was not disclosed. He was 40.

In the fall of 2008, Kay was the eighth survivor voted out of "Survivor: Gabon," the season won by Maine high school physics teacher Bob Crowley.

"Survivor" host Jeff Probst reacted to Kay's death:

Kay is survived by two children, plus his girlfriend, mother, and sister. A funeral will be held in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday.

Kay's obituary on Legacy.com shares the story of a full life cut short:

"After graduating from Walpole High School, he earned a bachelor's degree from UMass-Amherst and a law degree from Syracuse University. Dan worked as an attorney. In that position he was employed as a Supervisory Contracting Officer as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base. He was a member of the National Contract Management Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association. He was known for his hard work, dedication, attention to detail and strong work ethic.

In his free time, he enjoyed running, skiing, listening to music, and attending Crossway Christian Church. Dan had a smile that could light up a room. His desire to be challenged and his quest for adventure lead to his participation on the reality show, 'Survivor.' He also successfully skied Tuckerman's Ravine and completed his first half marathon. More than anything, Dan cherished the time he spent with his two young children, Reese Elizabeth Kay and Jackson 'Jax' Russell-Reid Kay. Those who knew Dan best, would agree he was a child at heart.

Although the time he had with his children was cut much too short, he leaves them with numerous memories of times filled with fun and laughter, including those enjoyed at his favorite place, Sawyer Lake in Gilmanton, NH. He was a man who truly believed, "the secret to having it all is knowing you already do.'"

Here's Kay's "Survivor: Gabon" intro video: According to People, Dan Kay is the fourth "Survivor" alumni to pass away since the show premiered in 2000: In 2010, Jenn Lyon, who placed fourth on "Survivor: Palau," died after a six-year battle with breast cancer. Original "Survivor" contestant BB Andersen died of brain cancer in 2013 at age 77. In 2014, 26-year-old "Blood vs. Water" contestant Caleb Bankston was killed in a railway accident.

"Survivor" is now approaching its 34th season, called "Survivor: Game Changers," and it premieres March 8 on CBS.
