'Alien: Covenant,' 'Justice League' and More 2017 Heavyweights Offer Up New Images Posted: 09 Jan 2017 10:00 PM PST Every summer sees Hollywood unleashing its biggest franchises. There's something unique about 2017's crop of movies, though: the biggest are all either remakes or sequels. USA Today put out their preview piece today, which gives us new images from the fifth Transformers movie, the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean, the sixth Alien (not counting the AvP movies), the third Zack Snyder DCEU movie, and the latest live-action remake of a classic animated movie. And while it may be easy to gripe that none of these are original films, it's hard not to be excited about certain things in each of them. So let's take a look. Alien: Covenant In theaters: May 19, 2017 [Image Credit: Mark Rogers; 20th Century Fox] The first Alien is through and through a horror... Gavin O'Connor Takes Matt Damon's Leftovers With 'Father Daughter Time' Posted: 09 Jan 2017 09:00 PM PST Matt Damon has never directed a movie, but that's not because he doesn't want to. It's just that he's too busy, and in the past he's admitted that he'll keep passing on going behind the camera to work with other great filmmakers so that he can learn more from them. Some of the projects he's been in line to direct that haven't happened include the still unmade A Foreigner, another unproduced movie he wrote with John Krasinski and Manchester by the Sea, which was one of last night's big Golden Globe winners. Recently, Damon had to pass up another potential directorial debut, Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses. He will still produce the movie, which is about a man on the run with his daughter after... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Chris Hemsworth Says His 'Star Trek' Movie Is Still Happening Posted: 09 Jan 2017 07:30 PM PST Last summer J.J. Abrams hit Star Trek fans with a bit of a stunner: a fourth movie was not only already in the works, but it would unite Chris Pine's character with Chris Hemsworth's. That's a bit unexpected considering not only does Hemsworth play Pine's dad in this rebooted series, but he also died in a spectacular fashion in the opening minutes of the 2009 movie. Somehow they'll be together, though. There's a snag, though. Abrams made that comment a week before the latest movie, Star Trek Beyond, hit theaters. Then the movie came out, and while it was received quite well by fans and critics, it was not a huge box office smash. It grossed nearly $120 million less around the world than Star Trek Into Darkness. A sequel suddenly looked a lot... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 09 Jan 2017 06:00 PM PST Things are somewhat quiet on the Marvel Studios front. We’re just at the beginning of a slow leak of promotional images for this year’s offerings - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Sony collaboration Spider-Man Homecoming. Meanwhile, it’s Fox and their pocket universe of X-Men properties that have been dominating the more recent news cycle. In December, audiences at Butt-Numb-a-Thon got their minds blown by the first 40 minutes or so of Logan, production on The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 is ramping up now, and FX is airing Legion, Fox’s first X-Men TV show, the first week of February. Where they are quiet is in regards to Fantastic Four, a franchise they don’t seem to be sure what to do with after 2015’s troubled reboot... Golden Globes 2017: Best Moments Posted: 09 Jan 2017 01:30 PM PST The 74th Golden Globe Awards featured a slew of inspiring, funny and touching moments. We've rounded up our favorites. Before the show began, attendees walked a red carpet, stopping to give very brief interviews to media personalities. We sympathize with the challenge facing Jenna Bush, who misspoke when talking to the perplexed Pharrell Williams "you're nominated for Hidden Fences" pic.twitter.com/7My6dtEkbG — Dave Itzkoff (@ditzkoff) January 9, 2017 The show itself kicked off with what's called a "cold open," a video segment with no introduction and inspired by the opening sequence of the musical La La Land, with host Jimmy Fallon and a bevy of surprise guest appearances. Another highlight came in the best supporting actress... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
