The 'Wonder Woman' Villain Has a Name, But Still No Face

Posted: 11 Jan 2017 09:00 PM PST

Wonder Woman hasn't exactly been shying away from the press. Throughout its production we've gotten a bunch of official on-set photos. New footage has come out every few months. The trailers have shown off all kinds of cool scenes and set pieces. That said, one thing has been missing this entire time: a villain. So far Wonder Woman has largely escaped the scrutiny of wondering who the big bad could be because, well, the villain kind of seems like all of mankind. It is after all a period piece set during World War I and follows the Amazonian warrior as she leaves her family behind to venture out into a war torn Europe. But now thanks to a French movie magazine, we know that Patty Jenkins' movie indeed has a specific villain, and it's none other than Ares, son of...

Will Smith May Star in Disney's Live-Action 'Dumbo' Remake

Posted: 11 Jan 2017 07:00 PM PST

Does Will Smith have the ears to pull it off? That's the first response we have to the news that the former Fresh Prince will be starring in Disney's live-action remake of Dumbo. Deadline has the exclusive but no details, not even what sort of character Smith would play in the movie. For all we know, he could at least be the voice of the CG elephant. Chances are, however, he'll be on screen in some sort of human role.   Dumbo is being helmed by Tim Burton, who previously directed Disney's live-action version of Alice in Wonderland and produced the sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass. Both movies featured actors distorted in ways to fit their characters. The more recent live-action remake hit, The Jungle Book, also made some...

Star Wars Bites: Woody Harrelson Gets Official, While a Live-Action TV Show Is Still Far, Far Away

Posted: 11 Jan 2017 05:00 PM PST

Last week a report emerged that the filmmakers behind the young Han Solo movie wanted Woody Harrelson for a key role as a mentor to Han. The internet quickly fell in love with the idea, mainly because Woody Harrelson is one of the few actors that everyone seems to agree is a gift to every movie he's in. And now thankfully none of us have to fall out of love with that idea since the casting just became official.  Of course this didn't come with any extra news or details about the film. It still doesn't have a title. It still doesn't have a plot. We still don't even know at what point in the Star Wars timeline it takes place. But a statement from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller does tell us - and this is of crucial importance to fans...

First 'XX' Trailer Reveals a New Kind of Horror Anthology

Posted: 11 Jan 2017 03:30 PM PST

When done right, horror anthologies are a thing of twisted beauty. And to do one right, you need a specific hook to unite everything together. Without one, you're just making a bunch of random short films that happen to be arbitrarily stuck together. Thankfully the new horror anthology XX, which will soon premiere at Sundance, has a rather unique hook to it: every segment is written and directed by women. And if you happen to pay attention to the indie horror world, it's a very impressive talent roster, too. It includes: Juvanka Vuckovic, the former editor of the great horror magazine Rue Morgue. Annie Clark, AKA the musician St. Vincent making her filmmaking debut. Roxanne Benjamin, a writer and producer on a string of great horror movies, including the horror...

Now You Can Sing Along with 'Moana' in Theaters

Posted: 11 Jan 2017 01:30 PM PST

After Frozen became an instant classic and a massive popular success in 2013, Disney prepared a special sing-along version for theatrical release in January 2014. That too proved to be a big success, luring parents and their children back to theaters to see the movie and experience the joy of singing along to the songs they already loved, in the company of many other delighted, enthusiastic children. Frozen sing-along screenings have become an annual tradition at some theaters. Disney first began releasing sing-along versions on home video in 1986. Special sing-along screenings of The Sound of Music date back to 1999; a sing-along edition of Mamma Mia! opened in theaters in 2008 and sing-along screenings of other musicals have followed. With the musically-inclined Moana...
