Ruby Rose's 'Taylor Swift' Prank on 'xXx' Co-Star Nina Dobrev Ended in Blood Posted: Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose are both in Vin Diesel's new movie "xXx: Return of Xander Cage," and apparently it was not a safe set. Nina was recently on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and revealed that she and Ruby had a serious prank war on set, and one of those pranks involved "Taylor Swift" and left an innocent bystander bloody. It was the bystander's own fault, though, for fangirling too hard over "The Vampire Diaries" star. (It happens.) Here's how Nina explained the prank-gone-wrong:
Yikes. At that moment, Chris Hardwick, who was also on "The Late Late Show," quipped that the impersonator was "Taylor Not-So-Swift." Ba-dum-dum. Watch Nina Dobrev tell the story, then see her and Chris Hardwick discuss dog vs. cat people, and also play a game of "Nuzzle Whaaa?": Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Michael Keaton: 'Spider-Man' Villain Vulture's 'Relevant' B-Story Will Win Fans Posted: Is it a bad thing to identify with the bad guy? In "Spider-Man: Homecoming" -- out July 7th -- Michael Keaton plays villain Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture. When promoting his new movie "The Founder," about Ray Kroc and the rise of McDonald's, Keaton told SiriusXM's Town Hall (hosted by Entertainment Weekly) that Vulture is an even more timely character than the ruthless Golden Arches businessman:
Director Jon Watts previously told USA Today that Vulture is a very different antagonist from other Marvel villains like Thanos and Ultron: "It's fun to think that if Spider-Man is a regular kid who becomes a superhero, there's got to be a bunch of regular guys who become supervillains, too." Speaking of Spidey, actor Tom Holland told USA Today, "The first time we see the Vulture is terrifying. It's like a horror movie: really scary, very intense and shocking." "Spider-Man: Homecoming" arrives July 7th. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The Walking Dead' Season 7 Finale Has a 'Sexy Moment' That Made 2 Stars Screech Posted: Whatever you think about "The Walking Dead" Season 7 up to this point, consider this: Lennie James (Morgan) said he and Melissa McBride (Carol) "screeched" over a "lovely" "sexy moment" in the finale. Here's that section of Lennie James's Q&A with NME:
Sexy? Did he mean literally sexy? He said on all levels. Arrival of a character? Literally on that point too -- like someone new shows up -- or something else? Maybe we can pair this with what Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) previously teased of the finale to Entertainment Weekly:
Episode 16 is the finale, so is he talking about the same moment? Apologies for the all-caps, but ... DO THEY MEAN CARYL? This isn't about Carol and Daryl, is it? Sorry if it isn't, but sexy moment, punching the air ... maybe Daryl is finally going to get some, with Carol or otherwise. Or it could have nothing to do with that at all. But now we're rooting for some Pookie play time. Or maybe Eugene? Does Mullet Man finally get some? Clearly stuck on "sexy" here. For the record, James also hated the first half of Season 7, but because he was only in two episodes so he was bored and wanted to get to work and see everyone else on set. He promised "more action in the second half" as we're about to go to war. Here's more of his second half tease to NME (warning -- minor comic book spoilers ahead):

What the Fork?! 'The Good Place' Fans Beg for Season 2 After Finale Twist Posted: Fork yeah! That is how you end a season. "The Good Place" Season 1 had a short run, as far as network comedies go, ending Jan. 19 after just 13 episodes. But holy shirtballs did it end with a shocking bang. Fans will be truly vexed if NBC doesn't renew the show for Season 2. Few viewers saw the big twist coming -- that Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Jason (Manny Jacinto), Chidi (William Harper), and Tahani (Jameela Jamil) were all really in The Bad Place, not The Good Place, in a scheme devised by architect Michael (Ted Danson), who wasn't such a nice guy after all. Apparently everyone in The Bad Place was in on the act, except for the four tortured souls in question. Before Michael reset their memories, Eleanor wrote herself a note to "find Chidi," and Janet (D'Arcy Carden) helpfully provided the note at the end of the finale. Eleanor -- who just got herself a hunky new "soul mate" -- doesn't remember who the fork Chidi is anymore, but it was an exciting place to leave Season 1. Any questions about how they could keep this story going were solved with the twist. Here are some of the responses to the finale:
NBC has yet to officially renew the series, but hopefully the strength of that finale compels them to give the show another season. Showrunner Michael Schur told TVLine that, if the show is renewed, "it would be of a similar length" to the 13 episodes of Season 1. So it's not like it would be a gigantic investment on the network's part. PLEASE? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch President Trump Quote Bane From 'Dark Knight Rises' in His Inaugural Address Posted: Yesh, people of Donald Trump, now officially POTUS, was sworn in today, and his inauguration speech included a section that reminded Batman fans of Tom Hardy's Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises." Here's part of what President Trump said:
And here's how Bane put it, in his speech to the people of Gotham:
Because Twitter grows no moss, the comparison was made and posted in its own video almost immediately: — Timothy Burke (@bubbaprog) January 20, 2017 Here's more context from Bane's speech in Christopher Nolan's third film in his Batman trilogy:
And here's more from the text of Trump's speech:

'Once Upon a Time' Casts Tiger Lily as Captain Hook Adversary Posted: Tiger Lily won't be a wilting flower on "Once Upon a Time." The fairy tale drama has cast Native American actress Sara Tomko to play the "Peter Pan" character for at least two episodes, Entertainment Weekly reports. In the "Peter Pan" tales, Tiger Lily is part of the Piccaninny tribe living in Neverland. She falls for Peter and gets kidnapped by Captain Hook. In "OUAT," she'll come back into Hook's (Colin O'Donoghue) orbit and perhaps cause trouble for the pirate. "As Captain Hook continues on his path to redemption, his dark past is never far away," executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis told EW. "He's left a long line of adversaries and Tiger Lily is the latest to return and complicate his efforts to leave that past behind." "Once Upon a Time" returns with new episodes Sunday, March 5. Anne Hathaway Is a Monster in 'Colossal' Teaser Trailer Posted: Anne Hathaway, what a monster — literally. In the first teaser trailer for "Colossal," Hathaway stars as an aimless, unemployed young woman named Gloria who ends up back in her hometown when her life falls apart. Then, she sees news reports of a giant monster rampaging through Seoul, South Korea, and soon realizes that she's somehow connected to the beast. Gloria can control its movements — which means she's basically the monster herself. She can even make it dance. It's a totally weird, but interesting and unique premise from director Nacho Vigalondo. Not your usual kind of monster movie. With a mane of wild hair and those big, confused eyes. Hathaway looks the part of a total mess Jason Sudeikis, Tim Blake Nelson, Austin Stowell, and Dan Stevens also star. "Colossal" premieres at the Sundance Film Festival this week, and opens in theaters April. Want more stuff like this? 'Green Lantern Corps' Shortlist Includes Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise: Report Posted: Will Ryan Reynolds take off the Deadpool costume to put on the Green Lantern one again? The Wrap reports that the Golden Globe-nominated star of "Deadpool" is on a shortlist to play Hal Jordan in the DC Comics movie project "Green Lantern Corps." Reynolds already Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern before, in 2011 (where he met his now-wife Blake Lively). He's joined on the shortlist by Tom Cruise, Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel McHale, and Armie Hammer. If that seems like a broad range of ages, that is correct. The project has been described as "'Lethal Weapon' in space," with Hal Jordan teaming up with John Stewart. Hal would be the world-weary mentor, while Jon would be the young rookie superhero. It seems improbable that Reynolds would return to the role, considering how poorly the movie fared — and especially now after the wild success and acclaim of "Deadpool." It's all early rumors, though. David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes are writing the script, but no director has been hired yet. The tentative release of "Green Lantern Corps" is 2020. 'Split' Spoilers: 5 Revealing Questions About That WTF Ending Posted: M. Night Shyamalan's "Split" opens this weekend (please, get your tickets now) and, this being an M. Night Shyamalan film, it has a big old twist that will turn your mind into a lagoon of tapioca pudding. In fact, the film, which stars James McAvoy as a man whose multiple personalities turn him into a psychotic killer (not sure the American Medical Association would agree, but hey), might feature Night's biggest twist yet. So we thought we'd discuss it, in some detail, and include all of the questions that we had about this particular moment. Heavy spoilers follow. Only read the below if you have already seen the film. Seriously. You're still here? OK then. Here's every question we had about the ending of "Split":1. What happens, exactly? So, here's where we can even argue about whether or not the twist is an actual twist. Because "Split" has already properly ended before this twist is even introduced. McAvoy's psychotic madman, who can now physically manifest into something almost superhuman, has escaped police capture. The damaged girl who successfully stood up to him (the delightful Anya Taylor-Joy) is now in police custody. (Does she tell police about her abusive uncle? That's another topic for discussion.) We cut to black. The end titles start. But they are accompanied by some familiar music: the somewhat dated, trip-hoppy score by James Newton Howard that's actually from another Shyamalan film: "Unbreakable." Only hardcore nerds like myself, who have probably never known the physical love of a woman, will recognize this music cue, but it's an omen of things to come: we cut to a diner, where the events of the film are being recounted by a TV news anchor. The anchor talks about McAvoy's physical transformation, about how villainous he has become. The camera glides down a row of diner patrons seated at the counter. One of them makes a connection to Samuel L. Jackson's character from "Unbreakable." "What was his name?" the diner patron wonders. Finally, the camera moves to the end of the counter and -- voila! -- it's Bruce Willis, in full "Unbreakable" garb (not his iconic rain poncho -- can you believe he has an iconic rain poncho?), but his workman's uniform, with "Dunn" embroidered on his pocket (he played David Dunn in "Unbreakable"). Willis pipes up: "They called him Mr. Glass." Mic drop. 2. So, wait, is "Split" an "Unbreakable" sequel? I guess? It's hard to quantify because of the sneaky way that this larger concept is introduced, but it sure seems like it. The suggestion is that McAvoy's character, whose monstrous form is referred to as The Horde, will have to be taken down by Willis' character, possibly in conjunction with Taylor-Joy's steely survivor. 3. How did Shyamalan get the rights to use the "Unbreakable" characters? This is a huge question, because, logistically, a move like this must have been a nightmare. "Unbreakable" was a big Disney movie and Shyamalan's heavily hyped follow-up to "The Sixth Sense," the rare film that was both a critical and commercial smash and managed to capture the zeitgeist in a pretty profound (and spooky) way. "Unbreakable" had a huge budget and big movie stars, and while idle chatter about potentially expanding the storyline has been bandied about for years, nothing has ever been solidified. How Shyamalan was able to accomplish this, in secret, is pretty mind-blowing. How he secured the rights from the notoriously persnickety Disney is even more impressive. 4. So, who would make the proper "Unbreakable" sequel? Considering "Split" is kind of a backdoor reintroduction of the character/situation and not an explicit follow-up, this leaves the question of who would make the actual sequel. Shyamalan's last two films have been low-budget, down-and-dirty independent features bankrolled by Blumhouse Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. Would "Unbreakable 2" be done in a similar fashion? Part of what made "Unbreakable" such an overwhelming experience was the care and attention Shyamalan provided, with long, elaborately-choreographed shots that gave the movie its singular mood (but also provided it with its positively funereal pacing). "Unbreakable" was an expensive, complicated movie, unlike the last two Shyamalan cheapies. If the filmmaker was somehow able to secure the rights to the characters, would Shyamalan make it in the style he's been dabbling in recently or would he go back to something more grandiose? 5. Does the ending of "Split" contextualize an entire M. Night Shyamalan shared universe? Throughout "Split" (the actual movie and not the 90 seconds I'm so obsessed with now), there are numerous references to McAvoy's split personality disorder being the actual cause, historically, for tales of the supernatural or the otherworldly. This makes me think that there's a possibility Shyamalan could be attempting something even more audacious; is he using this explanation to contextualize all of his films under a centralized shared universe? I'm not sure that he'd do something like this, especially since all of his other movies are so different and insane, but trying to get water fairies and alien invaders into the same overstuffed narrative yurt is something that fills me with endless delight. "Split" is in theaters now. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Bastille Rumored to Make Cameo in 'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Posted: Music has always been an important part of "Game of Thrones," and musicians from hit bands like Coldplay and Snow Patrol have made cameos in seasons past. Now comes a report that another band will appear in season 7 — Bastille. A source told Watchers on the Wall that the British rock band was spotted filming in Northern Ireland. They were dressed as wildlings for a scene in the final episode of the season. That falls in line with what lead singer Dan Smith told Vogue UK. "We get to check out the set of 'Game of Thrones,' which will be wicked," he said recently. The band are longtime fans of the show and had Sophie Turner (Sansa) star in their video for "Oblivion." They follow in the footsteps of other musicians who've made cameos on "Game of Thrones." Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody sang "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" to Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth in season 3. Coldplay drummer Will Champion played at the Red Wedding. Sigur Rós performed "The Rains of Castamere" at Joffrey's doomed wedding. Mastodon died and came back to life as white walkers in the "Hardhome" episode. And Of Monsters and Men were theater musicians in Braavos. "Game of Thrones" season 7 is expected to premiere sometime this summer. Want more stuff like this? After Going 'Rogue,' Donnie Yen Is Ready for His 'Cage' Match Posted: The Force remains with "Rogue One's" Donnie Yen. Already renowned both in Hong Kong and Hollywood as a mind-boggling martial artist, fight choreographer, and filmmaker, Yen has also recently been snapping audiences' heads back with his increasingly impressive acting chops, first as the immensely charming blind Force adherent Chirrut Imwe in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," and now in "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" as the maybe bad / maybe noble Xiang, who finds himself contending with Vin Diesel's swaggering spy in pursuit of a powerful weapon known as Pandora's Box. Yen joined Moviefone for a fast-paced look at how he adapts his stunt techniques film by film, and how his current star turn is hitting him. Moviefone: Let's start with the stunts: in a movie like "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" where the action is so up close and the editing is so fast-paced, does that affect how you pull off the stunts or how you stage the stunts? Donnie Yen: No, because I adapt myself to different directors or how they place the cameras -- because myself, I direct films and I'm an action director, including these kinds of action sequences for many, many, too many of my movies in the last few decades. So for me, I'm very comfortable of a different style of shooting. Like, I see the camera way over here, my natural instinct will be adapting to that camera angle. For instance, in "xXx" when I walked onto the set, and usually what I'll do is -- in a polite way or in a professional way -- I would ask the director how would you like to, first of all, I study his style before. I watch his films and get a sense. Working with D.J. Caruso, or if I'm fortunate to work with Martin Scorsese, for example, or Steven Spielberg, what I would do is I would have certain images in my head, "OK, this is his style." Usually my guesses are pretty on point. So, for instance, D.J. likes to shoot it a certain way, and I choreograph my movements, or I collaborate with their choreographer, and then make it, at the end of the day, make it into my own characteristic. What you see is the process of making an adaptation and an adjustment. Coming in so prepared but also ready to adapt, what was the fun surprise for you in the making of the film? It's a fun surprise every single scene, every movie, because usually you don't do the same movie all the time. You have different scenarios, you're dealing with different actors, or a different climax, right? It changes the whole flavor, do you know what I'm saying? So for me, every day walking to the set is refreshing. I like that refreshment because it actually inspires me to deliver beyond being just, "I've done it before." Because, usually, the human body gets lazy. If you've done it so many times you just kind of, uh, you know. You don't have any drive behind it. But with approaching different scenes, it gives you that curiosity and carries that energy. The adrenaline comes up and it's a good thing, especially for physical performance because you need that high energy. For one, it decreases the chance of getting hurt because your body is a pump. Secondly, again, it inspires you to be creative, and the mind is going 90 miles per hour, and so is the body. Usually good things happen in front of the camera that way. In addition to your usual exemplary stunt and fight work, you've been getting these great opportunities to act in bigger, more in-depth, more prominent roles -- richer characters that you're being able to create. Oh, thank God! It's a long time coming. For the longest time. I've done some Hollywood films back in the early '90s, the early 2000s -- more than a decade, though, in "Blade II" and "Shanghai Knights." Unfortunately, I never was given the platform to be a true artist, to be a true actor. We're not going to get into that, right? The world is smaller now and I think I've done enough films to build my credentials where my words mean more, my suggestions mean more, and it's a lot easier today. As an actor, what was the fun challenge in this character, Xiang? Because you have this cool, shifting dynamic opposite Vin. I believe I have a lot of -- how would I say it? I have understanding of a different way of acting, at least in action films. Again, unfortunately, what kind of created and built my credentials for the last ten years kind of limited myself from having the producers to let me try something else. For example, I made "Ip Man," and "Ip Man" was so popular, I made three of them. When you make a character so popular you are typecast -- "Oh, he's the Ip Man," let alone that I'm Chinese. Especially in American movies, when they cast the Chinese person, it's like kung fu master or whatever, right? So I was looking for the vehicle. I was always looking for a vehicle to show the other side of me. When they came to me with this, I said, "This is the perfect opportunity, and more. I made my suggestion to D.J. and Vin and all the producers. I said, listen, you can have a lot of fun, and you can show that this Chinese actor is very diverse and able to carry this type of personality. So some of the stuff I added, like the little bit of that swagger, that dangerous, you've never seen a Chinese actor play these type of roles. So it's great. Tell me about the enthusiastic response to your role in "Rogue One." Chirrut Imwe became instantly beloved, instantly quotable, from the moment the fans first met him. I guess so, but I never thought it would happen! As always, I always try to do my best as an actor in any films, and in "Rogue One" I was just doing my job and trying to do the best I can, and by adjusting this character, changing the character, shaping the character, but never had I expected the response that I'm getting. It's a little bit overwhelming! "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" is in theaters now. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Adele Will Perform at the 2017 Grammys, So Prepare for an Epic Sing-Along on Your Couch Posted: Though she was nominated for a boatload of awards for her record-shattering album "25," it was unclear whether or not superstar Adele would be performing at the 2017 Grammys. Well, wonder no more: CBS has just confirmed that the singer will indeed take the stage at next month's ceremony. Adele, who's up for some of the biggest awards of the night (Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album), will perform a track from "25" during the Grammys broadcast, according to CBS. It's unclear which song she'll choose, though "Hello" is the obvious selection, since it's been singled out for several individual trophies (and was also the lead single from "25"). This will be the fourth time Adele has performed at the prestigious awards show. She's already racked up 10 Grammys throughout her career, stretching back to when she took home the hardware for Best New Artist in 2009. She last took home Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year in 2012 for her album "21" and the smash single "Rolling in the Deep." In addition to Adele, other performers announced for the night include John Legend, Metallica, and a duet between Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. James Corden will host the ceremony, which is slated to air on CBS on Sunday, February 12. [via: Variety] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Netflix Won't Pick Up 'Girl Meets World,' Creator Still Hopeful It Will Find New Home Posted: While the creator of "Girl Meets World" remains hopeful that another platform will pick up the recently cancelled Disney Channel series, one potential new home has reportedly shut its doors to the show. According to TheWrap, Netflix has declined to add the series to its roster, and will not be the one to make new episodes of the "Boy Meets World" spinoff. The streaming service had been floated as a potential good fit for the show, but alas, it looks like that plan will not pan out. Fans of "Girl" have been vocal in their disagreement with Disney, which cancelled the series after three seasons, especially since creator Michael Jacobs has maintained that there was a deal in place to make four seasons, and the show had already planned out story lines for upcoming episodes. Jacobs -- who also created "Boy Meets World" -- had previously said that the show's creative team was shopping the series around to other interested platforms, though talks were still in the early stages. In a new interview with TVLine, Jacobs didn't discuss the report about Netflix, but did say he was still optimistic that the series could still return elsewhere. "Hopefully there's another venue out there that realizes there's an audience that loves this," Jacobs told TVLine. "There are many stories to tell. Maybe there's an incarnation where we can do this and get both the old audience and the new audience. The last thing we'd want to do is overstay our welcome, but I think we died prematurely here." The final episode of "Girl Meets World" season three -- and potentially, the series finale -- airs tonight at 6 p.m. EST on the Disney Channel. 'House of Cards' Season 5 Gets Premiere Date, Teaser Posted: Netflix has finally revealed the premiere date for "House of Cards" season five, and released an eerie new teaser trailer to go along with the announcement. The short clip -- which was released on Inauguration Day, in what may or may not be coincidental timing (though Netflix cheekily declined to comment) -- focuses on a billowing American flag against a gloomy-looking gray sky, with children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in voiceover. The camera slowly pans out to reveal that the flag is hanging upside down in front of the Capitol building (a nod to the show's logo), and as the Pledge ends, ominous sound effects add a jarring punctuation mark to the building tension, before the release date is displayed onscreen: May 30, 2017.
Shared on the official "House of Cards" Twitter account, the post included the comment, "We make the terror." It alludes to dialogue between Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) spoken during the season four finale, in which Frank tells his wife, "We don't submit to terror. We make the terror." Spooky stuff indeed. It looks like the show, which has never shied away from depicting the seedier side of politics, will be delving even deeper into that territory this season. Fans only have to wait a few more months before they find out the true meaning of those words for themselves. J.K. Rowling Shuts Down 'Cursed Child' Movie Trilogy Rumors Posted: "Harry Potter" fans have had it good the last couple of years, with lots of new Potter-centric content to devour from a wealth of sources, including fan site Pottermore, the new prequel flick "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (and its four upcoming sequels), and the sequel play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." But according to "Potter" creator J.K. Rowling, that embarrassment of riches does not include a "Cursed Child" trilogy featuring the original film franchise's actors. Rowling took to Twitter on Friday to deny reports that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were negotiating deals to reprise their roles as Harry, Hermione, and Ron in a "Cursed Child" series that was to have been released around the year 2026, when their ages matched up to those of the characters in the play. The rumor mill started churning when blogs picked up on a recent podcast that alluded to an alleged conversation between film distributor Warner Bros. and the trio of actors about reuniting for a "Force Awakens"-style series that would have them return to the roles that made them famous. But Rowling shut such speculation down, telling followers, "there is NO TRUTH to the rumour about a #CursedChild movie trilogy!"
While another rumor about a "Cursed Child" trilogy, also starring Radcliffe, broke last year shortly after the premiere of the play, it was strongly denied by Warner Bros., which said it had "no plans" to make those movies. But according to ScreenRant, what made this new rumor more credible was that it came from Jim Hill, described by the site as a "legendary theme park journalist and historian ... whose contacts at Disney and Universal run well into the movie and television divisions." During an appearance on the Unofficial Universal Orlando Podcast last week, Hill alluded to NBC Universal -- which has the current television rights to the "Potter" series and "Fantastic Beasts" -- also claiming rights "when they're finally made – [to] the trilogy of movies that will be based on 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.'" Hill went on to say that there have already been discussions with the actors about these new films:
Sadly, Rowling's statement makes all of that a moot point. While we have no doubt that Warner Bros. will eventually explore some sort of big screen adaptation for "Cursed Child" -- and may indeed try to woo Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint to return -- it's way too early for such speculation. The play still needs to make its Broadway debut stateside, and the actors have a lot of growing up to do if they're going to realistically reprise their roles. Maybe someday there will be some truth to this rumor. For now, we'll enjoy the actual, plentiful "Potter" content we do have. The 'A Dog's Purpose' Premiere Has Been Canceled Amid Controversy Posted: Controversy erupted earlier this week when video from the set of upcoming feel-good flick "A Dog's Purpose" surfaced online, purportedly showing a terrified German shepherd that was forced to perform a stunt against its will. Thanks to the immense backlash the video unleashed, Universal has decided to cancel this weekend's Hollywood premiere of the film. In a statement, Universal and production company Amblin cited investigation into the video as the main reason for the cancellation (which also includes the film's press junket), noting that they did not want the film to be overshadowed by the negative attention. Here's the full statement:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals -- which has already called for a boycott of the film -- is now "pushing for further action, calling on the director of the Amblin production, Lasse Hallstrom, and producer Gavin Polone to pledge never to use animals in films again and to rescue the dogs from Birds & Animals Unlimited, the training and handling facility said to be the provider of the canines." (PETA recently opened its own investigation into BAU, alleging the company ignored or in some cases actively participated in the abuse and neglect of animals used in high-profile films, including the "Harry Potter" series. BAU has denied any wrongdoing.) In response to PETA's demand, Polone -- described by THR as "A prominent Hollywood vegan and animal rights activist" -- told the trade that he found the request ridiculous, noting, "This is a movie about promoting the idea of animals as sentient and deserving of empathy and rights." Instead of giving up the use of real animals entirely, the producer offered a different solution, per THR:

Ben Affleck Finally Responds to the 'Sad Affleck' Meme Posted: Ben Affleck may not like being peppered with questions about his role as Batman in the DCEU while on the press tour for his latest flick, "Live by Night," but that hasn't stopped the actor from talking about those superhero films anyway. And now, he's finally responding to the now-infamous "Sad Affleck" meme that came about after his press tour for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." For the uninitiated, the meme sprung up after harsh reviews of "Dawn of Justice" were published, and a fan edited some interview footage of Affleck sitting quietly next to Henry Cavill to make it appear as if Affleck were contemplating some deep inner turmoil. The video slowly zooms in on Affleck's blank expression, while the classic tune "The Sound of Silence" plays in the background. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 about "Live by Night," the conversation naturally turned to Affleck's Batman role, and the actor was asked what he learned about filmmaking from working on such a large-scale production. Affleck couldn't help but bring up the "Sad Affleck" video. "It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill where I don't say anything and they can lay Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it," he joked. "That's one thing I learned." We appreciate that Affleck can poke some fun at himself after the fact, though we wonder if he was still silently stewing over having to talk about the DC-verse in the first place. We're just waiting for the inevitable video where someone edits a mournful tune over this interview footage, too. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
