The Geek Beat: What We Want To See In The 'Pacific Rim' Sequel Posted: 08 Jun 2016 09:00 PM PDT For those of us who have been eagerly anticipating another throw-down between giant robots and equally giant monsters in the sequel to Pacific Rim, this has been a good week. After suffering through years of on-again, off-again updates on whether the apocalypse would indeed be cancelled again, this week brought news that Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega would play the lead role in the Pacific Rim sequel. The film will reportedly begin production later this year under the direction of Daredevil and Spartacus showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, with Del Toro serving as a producer. Yes, everything seems to be moving right along for the Pacific Rim movie-verse – and that means the list of things we'd like to see in a sequel could indeed be making the leap from... What Went Wrong With 'Fantastic Four' From An Actor's Perspective Posted: 08 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT Toby Kebbell is the prince of performance capture, so named in a profile of the actor by The Daily Beast. Ironically, though, one of his most noteworthy roles of late didn't even use him to do his own motion-capture duties. He says most footage of the villain Dr. Doom in last year's mega-bomb Fantastic Four is not his work but "some other guy, on some other day… doing some other thing." He tells the site he was "infuriated" to see that other actor limping around in the climactic scenes. Kebbell reveals that, post-transformation, the only shots of Doom that are him are "walking down a corridor, killing the doctor and getting into the time machine, and lying on the bench." He also says many time-consuming shots he did... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: The New 'Ghostbusters' Each Get Their Own Fun Intro Videos Posted: 08 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT Before we get to the new Ghostbusters footage, let's take a look at that killer pint glass that our friends at Mondo and the Alamo Drafthouse designed. The only way to get one is to see the movie at a Drafthouse, and since supplies will be limited, you're going to want to see it as soon as possible. As for the new footage... you probably already have a pretty decent idea of how each of the Ghostbusters are going to play off one another. Most of that dynamic is accomplished just by the casting alone, but if you're still unsure of just how exactly they're all going to bounce off of one another, Sony has just released a series of videos that introduce the new team members. There aren't really any shocking discoveries here. It's not like one of the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Remember When... 'City Slickers' Achieved Peak Billy Crystal? Posted: 08 Jun 2016 04:30 PM PDT The early '90s may not have been great for fashion or pop music, but they were a golden age if you were into crystals. Well, Billy Crystal, specifically. Though he'd had plenty of success during his 15 years in the public eye (TV's Soap; a stint on SNL; a comedy album), it was now, with George H.W. Bush in the White House and Roseanne on TV, that Crystal reached his pinnacle. First, he hosted the Oscars every year from 1990 to 1993, presiding over some of the show's most memorable moments and setting a new standard for viewers too young to remember when Bob Hope reigned. And in the midst of that -- 25 years ago this week, in fact -- he starred in City Slickers, the highest-grossing comedy of 1991 and an eventual Oscar-winner itself. City Slickers... Weird Rumor: Christopher Nolan Will Destroy an Expensive Piece of History For His Next Movie Posted: 08 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT Christopher Nolan is one of the few filmmakers working today who can say "Jump!" and have a studio eagerly shout "How high?!" His track record is unbelievably strong, commercially and critically. He makes huge hits that not only make silos of money theatrically, but they stick around in the pop culture consciousness for years. He's kind of a big deal. Having said all of that, we're not quite ready to fully believe this rumor about his next movie, the World War II drama Dunkirk. According to the site Indie Revolver, Nolan has asked Warner Bros. to buy him an actual WW2 plane to film IMAX sequences. And then when they're done using it for that, he's going to plant those cameras on the ground and film the plane actually crashing. Oh, and... DC Movies Buzz: 'Lobo' Details Teased; J.K. Simmons' Crazy 'Justice League' Look Stuns Posted: 08 Jun 2016 01:30 PM PDT Back in March, we heard that Jason Fuchs (Pan, Wonder Woman) had been hired to write the screenplay for Lobo, based on the DC comic book character. Reportedly, Fuchs would "start from scratch with his own take" on the bounty hunter, described by our own Rick Marshall as DC's "most violent, edgy, and altogether adult-oriented antihero." DC has softened Lobo in recent years, making him "younger and hipper," so which version of the character would emerge on the big screen? Now Fuchs has signaled his intentions, sharing a photo feauring the character in his original incarnation, along with the hashtag "portraitofabastich." As pointed out by Cinema Blend, the hashtag is evidently a reference to Lobo: Portrait of a Bastich, a trade... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
