How 'Safety Not Guaranteed' Almost Cost Colin Trevorrow the 'Jurassic World' Gig Posted: 15 Jun 2016 09:00 PM PDT [Warning: Spoilers for the ending of Safety Not Guaranteed follow] How does a filmmaker with one indie land a job directing something as big as Jurassic World? It helps if that indie is a hit, either with critics or audiences or accolades, and probably if it's a genre film. But it wasn't just that Colin Trevorrow had delivered a popular sci-fi movie in Safety Not Guaranteed that attracted producer Steven Spielberg to his talents and blockbuster movie potential. "I looked at his movie and thought it was really good," Spielberg says in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "but I wasn't convinced until the last scene 'cause that film could have gone two ways. When this [character] who I thought was certifiably insane... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Hard Target 2' Trailer: A Sequel to the Jean-Claude Van Damme Classic Comes Out of Nowhere Posted: 15 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT There's a division at Universal Pictures that specializes in taking movies you probably grew up loving and making sequels fairly under the radar. Here's the twist, though: despite their straight-to-DVD nature, these movies usually aren't just quick, dumb cash-ins. They're polished productions that often exceed expectations. Granted they're not all winners (Kindergarten Cop 2 and Tremors 5: Bloodlines were a bit lackluster), but the Deathrace, Chucky, The Man With The Iron Fists , and Jarhead franchises have all gotten satisfying new sequels in recent years. And it's not just R-rated action movies, either. Curious George 3 and The Land Before Time XIV are both solid kid's movies. Anyways, the point is these sequels seem to come out of... Wishes Do Come True: Helen Mirren Will Be in 'Fast 8' Posted: 15 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT Less than a year ago Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (a title she was given by the Queen in 2003) Helen Mirren confessed she desperately wanted to be in a Fast and Furious movie, telling Yahoo! Movies "I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving — I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me." Well, what Helen Mirren wants, Helen Mirren gets. She is indeed going to be in Fast 8. The Academy Award winning actress (pictured above in RED 2) broke the news in an interview with Elle, and she did so as if it was no big deal: "I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant... Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart Share Their Most Embarrassing High School Stories Posted: 15 Jun 2016 04:30 PM PDT The action-comedy Central Intelligence opens up with its two stars, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, back in high school. Some pretty rad special effects deliver younger versions of the duo – with Hart’s character Calvin rescuing Johnson’s character Bob from an awful prank that leaves the overweight gentle giant stark naked in the middle of a gymnasium full of students. It’s a traumatizing event, and one that later reunites the duo, now much different from their younger selves, for a wild adventure that has them on the run from ruthless villains and top-secret government agents, who may or may not be one in the same. We recently sat down with Johnson and Hart to discuss the film, and asked the two for their own embarrassing high school stories. What we... Watch Tom Cruise in First 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' Trailer Posted: 15 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT Tom Cruise first collaborated with director Edward Zwick more than a dozen years ago on The Last Samurai. Set in the late 19th century, the movie followed a traumatized former soldier (Cruise) who travels to Japan to train an army in Western-style warfare. In the process, he rediscovers his soul. The Last Samurai became a hit around the world and earned four Academy Award nominations. Cruise moved on to Michael Mann's Collateral and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Zwick, though he's known for historical epics like Glory and Legends of the Fall, has continued to tackle a variety of movies, including most recently the romantic drama Love & Other Drugs and the real-life drama Pawn Sacrifice, the latter based on the legendary 1972 chess matches... Tom Holland will star as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in the upcoming movie, due in theaters on July 7, 2017. Glover's role has not yet been revealed. [Deadline] Walter Cronkite: Steven Spielberg will produce a movie revolving around legendary television newscaster Walter Cronkite and his Vietnam War experiences in the 1960s. Posted: 15 Jun 2016 12:00 PM PDT With Father's Day right around the corner (it's this Sunday -- call dad!), Fandango surveyed over 1,000 dads and put together a list of the top 25 modern classics they'd most like to share with their brood this summer. Star Wars, E.T. and Jurassic Park lead the pack, with other fan favorites like Back to the Future, Toy Story, Rocky, The Goonies, The Karate Kid and Ferris Bueller's Day Off all in the mix. It's interesting that many of today's dads grew up in the '70s, '80s and '90s because not only are the films that meant a lot to them as children heavily represented on this list, but it also speaks to the movies we're seeing in theaters now. This weekend Finding Dory hits theaters, and its predecessor, Finding Nemo, landed at... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
