Sarah Jessica Parker Wants a 'Divorce' in HBO Trailer

Posted:

"It's Only A Play" Broadway Re-Opening NightSarah Jessica Parker wants a divorce.

Not in real life, to husband Matthew Broderick, but on HBO's new dramedy, "Divorce."

The actress posted the first teaser trailer for the series on Instagram. She plays Frances, a woman who wants to split from her husband (Thomas Haden Church) after he has an emotional affair.

Church doesn't think he did anything wrong, and doesn't want to separate, but Parker thinks it's for the best. "Now we can go back to just liking each other again," she says.

The pilot was written by Sharon Horgan, the co-creator and star of Amazon's "Catastrophe." The series also stars Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam, and Tracy Letts, and is slated to premiere on HBO this fall.

HBO is looking to reboot itself after the failure of "Vinyl," which was canceled earlier today, and the loss of dramedies "Togetherness" and "Looking." Bringing in one of its biggest early stars from one of its biggest early hits could do the trick.

'Game of Thrones' Releases Season 6 Finale Photos

Posted:

Game of ThronesStill flying high after that epic "Battle of the Bastards" episode of "Game of Thrones"? Well, here's something to pump you up even more: new photos from the season 6 finale, "The Winds of Winter."

As with most images released pre-broadcast, the pics don't tell us too much (and hardly anything that we didn't see in the teaser), but hey, every little bit counts. In the photo above, Daenerys and Tyrion have a serious chat, likely as they are preparing to depart on Ironborn ships for Westeros.

Below, the High Sparrow stands before a kneeling Loras Tyrell, who will stand trial for religious crimes. Also standing trial will be former queen Cersei Lannister.
Game of Thrones
Meanwhile, Cersei's brother, Jaime, heads to the Twins, the home of the Freys, after his successful siege of Riverrun. Jaime is also seen dining with the odious Walder Frey.

Game of Thrones
Next up, we have a very stern-looking Davos Seaworth. In "Battle of the Bastards," he finally figured out what happened to Shireen Baratheon (she was burned at the stake by Melisandre). You can bet he wants justice.
Game of Thrones
And finally, Bran's back! Will his visions tell him that his younger brother, Rickon, is dead? Will he learn that his sister and half-brother have taken back Winterfell? Will fans finally get confirmation on the R+L=J theory?
Game of Thrones

The season 6 finale is super-sized at 69 minutes, and the episode's title is the same as George R.R. Martin's next book. "The Winds of Winter" airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.

HBO Cancels 'Vinyl'

Posted:

vinylHBO has pulled the needle off "Vinyl."

The '70s-era rock 'n' roll drama debuted in February to high expectations. It was executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, overseen by "Boardwalk Empire's" Terrence Winter, and starred major talent like Bobby Cannavale and Olivia Wilde. But the first season saw disappointing ratings and mixed critical reviews. HBO replaced Winter with a new showrunner, but in the end, the network declined to go ahead with season 2.

"After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of 'Vinyl,'" the network said in a statement. "Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project."

It is rare for HBO not to order a second season of a series, even low-rated ones. But "Vinyl" was an expensive show, and a new programming chief has taken over at HBO. "Vinyl's" cancellation, along with earlier cancellations of "Togetherness" and "Looking," means there's room for new projects.

Tom Cruise Lays Down the Law in 'Jack Reacher 2' Trailer

Posted:

Jack Reacher 2
Think you're above the law? Well, Jack Reacher isn't the law.

He does dispense his own version of justice, though, in the new trailer for "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back." Tom Cruise reprises his role as the badass former military police officer in the sequel to the 2012 movie. He returns to headquarters where he learns the new MP boss (Cobie Smulders) has been arrested for espionage. She was set up, though, and as he tries to bust her out of prison, Jack realizes how deep — or really, how high — the conspiracy goes.'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' (2016) Trailer
"Jack Reacher 2" was written by Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, and directed by the latter, who worked with Cruise on "The Last Samurai." Though there's plenty of fight scenes in the trailer, their involvement makes us wonder if the movie will be more of a thriller than an all-out action flick.

"Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" opens in theaters October 21.

Will Smith Is Sorry He Made 'Wild Wild West' & Tricked You Into Seeing It

Posted:

is shoving "Wild Wild West" under the stagecoach. His 1999 action film -- co-starring , , and -- "won" several Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Director for , Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Couple for Kline and Smith. It has a 17 percent rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and a sad rating of 4.8/10 from IMDb users.

Will Smith is not interested in defending the film; in fact, The Hollywood Reporter said he mentioned it several times as a personal low point, during a Cannes Lions session held on Tuesday. Smith brought up the late Muhammad Ali as someone who inspired Smith to stop compromising for money and accolades.

"I had so much success that I started to taste global blood and my focus shifted from my artistry to winning," Smith said. "I wanted to win and be the biggest movie star, and what happened was there was a lag — around 'Wild Wild West' time — I found myself promoting something because I wanted to win versus promoting something because I believed in it." The movie made $222 million worldwide but Will Smith seems to regret his role in promoting it.

"Smoke and mirrors in marketing and sales is over," Smith said. "People are going to know really quickly and globally whether a product keeps its promises. I consider myself a marketer. My career has been strictly being able to sell my products globally, and it's now in the hand of fans. I have to be in tune with their needs and not trick them into going to see 'Wild Wild West.'"

It doesn't sound like he was specifically asked about the film, but apparently it was on his mind as a career choice nadir. You have to give him credit for honesty, and the kind of self-reflection that leads to more value-based choices, even if he kept the paycheck anyway.

Blake Lively: Daughter Recognized Dad When 'Deadpool' Sex Scenes Aired on Plane

Posted:

"Deadpool" Fan EventBaby James Reynolds is going to grow up with issues surrounding mashed potatoes. Just calling that now.

Blake Lively, who is pregnant with her second child with husband , was just on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to talk about Father's Day. Normally, she said, she and Ryan make a point to not work at the same time, but this year they were apart for Father's Day. Blake was on a plane with their daughter, James, and she said it was "torture" because, everywhere she looked, every screen showed her husband in sex montages with another woman. "Because everyone wants to watch 'Deadpool' on the plane, everyone." So that meant Blake and her daughter had to watch Daddy in, um, compromising positions.

"For 14 hours, having your husband having, like, mashed potatoes eaten out of his butthole -- 'cause that's in the film -- it's lovely. It's a cruel and unusual form of torture. And my daughter goes, 'Dada!' She starts like hugging and kissing the screen and waving at him, and he's not waving back, and she doesn't understand why he's not waving back. She thinks it's like FaceTime, and it's 'cause Daddy's getting it with the mashed potatoes."

Ahhh. Yes. That's. Well. Hmmm. That's certainly awkward at best. Watch for yourself:

There was probably a way to avoid having the kid (not yet 2) watch any "Deadpool" scenes, but at least she's getting an early education in modern cinema ... as well as other stuff.

New 'Rogue One' Details: Darth Vader Confirmed, More on Jyn's Father

Posted:

He's baaaaack! "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" covers the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, and one of the new details about the standalone movie is confirmation that Darth Vader will indeed be featured. That was hoped/expected, since "Rogue One" is set just before the events of the first movie released in the franchise, "Episode IV: A New Hope," and tells of how the Rebels stole the plans for the Death Star.

The new issue is out this Friday, and it will include details on Darth Vader's return, including, as EW teased, "a run-down of the Sith lord's first day on set, and what his return means for the larger Star Wars storytelling universe."

EW also shared details on 's character, and his relation to 's lead character, Jyn Erso, "the outlaw who has clashed with both the Rebellion and the Empire, and now has a chance to clear her ledger of past wrongs by leading a mission for the good guys. It's also personal – her father, played by Mads Mikkelsen, is a scientist whose knowledge is sought by both sides."

They also teased details on "the squad of characters uniting to take on the Empire, played by the most multicultural cast to appear in a Star Wars film yet: Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk – as a performance-capture droid. (One of these has been seen before by Star Wars fans.)" (On a different note, no one seems to care much about these things, for some reason, but if they're going to promote the addition of "multicultural" cast members, it should be noted that they're all male. One white British actress in the lead, flanked by a bunch of diverse dudes.)

Expect a ton of new details to come out this week, even before the magazine drops, including character breakdowns and possibly more information on the reshoots. And you have to imagine this means the next "Rogue One" trailer will feature Darth Vader, right? Just a little tease? And who will play him this time?

"Rogue One" will be released in theaters December 16, 2016.

Jon Hamm & Gal Gadot Are Sexy Spies in Hilarious 'Keeping Up With the Joneses' Trailer

Posted:

Yes, Don Draper and Wonder Woman do make a super hot couple.

and Gal Gadot are two of the stars of "Keeping Up with the Joneses," a comedy coming to theaters this October. They share top billing with the equally amazing and , and People shared a first look at all four stars in two new photos, just before the release of the first trailer.

Hamm and Gadot (above) play secret spies who move into a suburban neighborhood and befriend an ordinary couple, played by Galifianakis and Fisher. (Side note: Does Isla Fisher really qualify as an "ordinary" suburbanite?)

Here's the great first trailer:'Keeping Up With the Joneses' (2016) Trailer

Producer Walter Parkes praised the foursome to People, saying they're all funny in their own ways, and it helped that Hamm and Galifianakis have been good friends for many years. Anyone who has seen Jon Hamm on "Saturday Night Live" or "30 Rock" knows he has comedic chops, but Parkes said Israeli actress Gadot is one to watch as well:

"In some ways I find particularly for a non-originally U.S. speaker to be able to operate in comedies may be the hardest thing there is, and she was just so relaxed and precise and loose and never tried to play the joke but rather just play the reality of the scene and let the comedy come out organically. Just to literally have the verbal skills to be able to do that makes me think that there's nothing this gal couldn't do."

Was that a play on "gal" there? Either way, Gal Gadot won us over back when she grilled Jimmy Kimmel about her breasts, even before stealing scenes as Wonder Woman. Her solo film comes out next year, but "Keeping Up with the Joneses" will be released October 21.

Daniel Radcliffe Recalls the Odd Advice Donald Trump Gave Him 15 Years Ago

Posted:

World Premiere of "Now You See Me 2"Daniel Radcliffe is now 26-years-old, and he's been on countless daytime and late-night talk shows. But back when he was 10 or 11, just starting out after being cast as Harry Potter, he went to New York for the first time for his very first talk show appearance. It was for "TODAY," and Donald Trump was a fellow guest.

DanRad was recently on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and told the story of meeting Trump backstage before his appearance. Dan said he had some idea of who Trump was, but he was a young British kid, so he wasn't really familiar. But he told Trump he was very nervous and didn't quite know what he was going to tell the "TODAY" show hosts during his chat.

So here's the advice Trump gave him: "You just tell them you met Mr. Trump."

The audience laughed, and Dan referenced another guest who was about to be on Seth's show that night. "I was just like, to this day I can't even relate to that level of confidence. Imagine if I said to Billy [Eichner], 'Oh, just talk about me when you do your interview! I am enough to be everyone's story.'"

Of course Seth loved it, since Seth banned Donald Trump from every appearing on "Late Night," even though (as Seth acknowledged) Trump has never asked to be on the show and probably would never bother. It's still funny.

Check out that conversation, and more from DanRad:Daniel Radcliffe: The Advice Donald Trump Gave Me When I Was 11
You can also watch Radcliffe talk about his first prosthetic butt, for his role in the movie "Swiss Army Man."

15 Times Joss Whedon Made You Ugly-Cry

For a show that was supposed to be scary and action-packed, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" gave us a strong case of the ugly-cries almost on a weekly basis. Blade its creator, Joss Whedon.

The writer-director loves to kill off the characters you care about the most, as evidenced by his impressive list of TV shows. He also seems to get a rise out of RIP-ing your favorites on the big screen.

In honor of Whedon's birthday this week, from "Buffy" to "The Avengers," here all all the times he made you reach for the kleenex on both the big and small screens.

Five 'Game of Thrones' Stars Land Big Raises for Final Two Seasons: Report

Posted:

The stars of "Game of Thrones" aren't quite "Friends," but mad money will be there for them in Season 7 and Season 8.

HBO has yet to officially announce the plan for the final seasons of the show, but Season 7 is casting right now, with an expected episode count shortened from 10 to seven; Season 8 is also expected to be shorter than the usual 10 episodes, and it's also being looked at as the probable final season.

Deadline just issued a report that five of the main GoT stars negotiated for more pay in Season 7 and Season 8. They said Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) "will all be paid north of $500,000 an episode for Season 7, which has been officially picked up, and Season 8, which is widely expected."

HBO's "Game Of Thrones" Panel - Comic-Con 2011However, Deadline added, that shouldn't be taken to mean those five characters will definitely make it to the end; as Nellie Andreeva wrote, "I hear it does not guarantee that all five characters will survive til the end as the show's last episodes are yet to be written. I hear the contracts of the other regulars who landed raises alongside the Big 5 in fall 2014, have not been redone yet."

So if you're worried that Stark queens Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) are missing out on raises, it's possible they are negotiating power moves right now.

HBO Now just crashed from demand to watch the most recent episode, "Battle of the Bastards," so it doesn't seem like wasted money to give pay bumps to the most prominent members of this ensemble.

In terms of the five mentioned above, they were rumored to be getting about $300K an episode during the last contract talks in 2014. Half a million dollars is a quality raise from that amount, but it's for episodes that run a full hour, no commercials, and there will probably only be 13 episodes total across two seasons. Contrast that with the $1 million an episode for the "Friends" cast, for a half-hour sitcom that ran across 22 episodes. That show made tons of ad money for the network, so the stars cashed in. Other stars, like on "The Big Bang Theory" and "Modern Family," are still doing that today.

GoT is a very expensive show to produce, and you can see the results on screen. Entertainment Weekly said, in Season 6, it cost up to $10 million to shoot each episode. Meanwhile, we hear the three dragons want $3 million each for the final seasons, so we'll have to see what a threat of "Dracarys" can net them.

GoT's Season 6 finale, "The Winds of Winter," airs this Sunday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Committed to Authenticity in 'Free State of Jones'

Posted:

"Free State of Jones" Photo CallIn the Civil War epic "Free State of Jones," Gugu Mbatha-Raw had to contend with filming in the Louisiana swamps, which meant dealing daily with alligators, snakes, and lots and lots of bugs.

The "Beyond the Lights" actress sat down with Moviefone to talk about playing a slave who aids fugitive Newt Knight (Matthew McConaughey) and his cause to start a "free state" for escaped slaves and Southerners who were opposed to the Confederacy.

Moviefone: What drew you to this project?

Mbatha-Raw: Well, when I read the script, it was such an epic, visceral story and for me, being British, I didn't know much about the Civil War. I certainly didn't know about the Free State of Jones. I didn't know that Newt and Rachel really existed and that there was this rebellion. For me, the idea of some slaves having some agency and some freedoms, and the fact that Rachel had this thirst for knowledge, teaching herself to read. And so much bravery in the fact that she was transitioning these two worlds, from the plantation to the rebels marooned in the swamps. And, also, just that it was such an epic story and this idea of fighting for your freedom. It isn't just given to anyone, you have to step up and say you're ready for it.

Did you do any research for the role?

Yeah, I could have done tons. I did as much as I could. Gary [Ross] has been working on this for over 10 years, so he had a lot of access to some great historians and professors at Harvard that we were able to speak to. I went to Mississippi, to the real Jones county, visited Newt and Rachel's grave. I went to the real Alice Hotel, which is the hotel in the movie when they take over Ellisville. I read several slave narratives from Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs, and watched as many movies and documentaries as I could about the Civil War. There was lots of stuff to get into.

It's a very American story; did you find things in it that were universal?

It's a very specific period of time, but for me, I love history and I think we can learn a lot from the past. Especially a true story like this, I just thought the courage of these characters was really inspiring. Why do you think this story is still relevant today? I think the struggle for freedom is ongoing. I don't think anyone can rest on their laurels and say, "We're free now, so let's just chill out." As is shown in the film, even when slavery was abolished, there was a re-enslavement and I think people have to be vigilant to guard their rights and fight for their rights, always.

I don't think we ever see you and Matthew kiss in the film. Did you ever film that and it just didn't make the final cut?

We did, actually. I think that's more a question for Gary. That's his vision.

I imagine there were some tough, emotional days on set.

When you're dealing with this period and what these characters are going through, absolutely. But it's part of the material. Yes, it was intense, but it was also wonderful to be working in such an amazing world. Being out there in the swamps -- I never really shot there in the middle of nowhere. You had to get a boat to the set and just some of the logistics of being on tornado watch and doing indoor scenes because we're not sure if a tornado's going to come and ruin our swamp set! There were a lot of physical challenges as well.

You were really in the swamps.

Yes, 100 per cent! Those were all real locations. We were in Louisiana just outside of New Orleans and one of the locations was in the Chicot National Park. I think when you really are out in those remote areas, it's not hard to imagine you're in a different period of time. There's no symbols of modernity, no telephone poles, no buildings. You really have the alligators and the swamps and the birds. So it's easy to imagine you're going back in town. And a lot of bugs?

Yes, a lot of bugs. I didn't get bitten by the chiggers, but it's not nice at all. I had a few mosquito bites. I got one on my face, which you can see in one scene.

Authenticity!

Exactly. [Laughs]

Did you see any alligators?

Daily! Every day we saw alligators when we were in the swamps. I remember being driven in a sort of go-cart thing, because they couldn't have real cars out there, and counting nine alligators between the trailer and the set. They were sunbathing. But they left us alone, pretty much. It was the snakes that were more of a worry.

I hope no one got bitten.

Nobody did.

You also have to shoot some some old-fashioned firearms. Did you do any training for that?

Mmm hmm. It was very much on the set. Those particular period rifles, as you see in the beginning battle scene, it's elaborate to do the firing. I think some of the actors who did the battle scenes had more of a boot camp training on how to load and reload. Most of mine was on set and as you see in the scene with Matthew, where Rachel is learning how to fire a gun, I was pretty much learning as we were shooting that scene. What about the period clothes. Did you, like Jennifer Jason Leigh in "The Hateful Eight," did you go with full period underwear as well?

I absolutely did! I didn't know that she did, too. It's very tricky when you're filming in humid New Orleans, but Louise Frogley, who was our costume designer ... you didn't feel that you were wearing costumes. These clothes felt so authentic. The pair of boots that I was wearing were actually from the period. They had to be re-soled and they were very, very delicate, but it was very special to wear these garments and dresses and shawls that really were from the time. A lot of them were very fragile. It just gave you a sense of authenticity, I think.

"Free State of Jones" opens nationwide Friday, June 24th.
