Eddie Murphy Will Make Another 'Beverly Hills Cop' Movie

Posted: 14 Jun 2016 09:00 PM PDT

Axel Foley will return! A fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie has been in various stages of development for years. First as a movie with Brett Ratner that never happened, then as a TV show with Axel Foley's son that wasn't picked up. Then back to a big-screen sequel a few years ago, with piece by piece slowly being filled. After bringing on the writers of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie, Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec, Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have handed the franchise's directorial reigns to newcomers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, a Belgian duo whose recent film Black did relatively well on the festival circuit last year. Watch: Magical New 'Pete's Dragon' Trailer Looks Like 'E.T.' for a New Generation

Posted: 14 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT

Family movies are full of wonder again. Not only is Steven Spielberg back this summer with one of his old-fashioned kid-friendly blockbusters, in The BFG, but we've seen and will continue to see movies this year that amaze and warm the hearts of moviegoers of all ages. One of the most anticipated, especially after the release of a new trailer, is surely Disney's Pete's Dragon. The remake of the studio's 1977 animation/live-action hybrid is a lot different from the original. Gone are the songs, and so far it seems the title creature doesn't talk, but this isn't just a serious dramatic take on a silly but beloved kids' movie. It's another sort of kids' movie, one that seems to exist somewhere between Spielberg's E.T. the...

DVD Obscura: The New Indie and International Movies You Need to Watch

Posted: 14 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT

New Indie: In the acclaimed Sundance hit The Witch (Lionsgate Home Entertainment), an exiled family in 17th century New England finds itself under the spell of some evil forces. The question is which of those forces come from a mysterious witch in the woods, which ones come from a very possessive demon, and which ones come from religious mania and that darn patriarchy. Or maybe it’s the teenage daughter (Anya Taylor-Joy). Or maybe it’s the family’s scene-stealing goat. You won’t really know until the end of writer-director Robert Eggers’ intelligent, tense, mind-scrapingly strange movie, one that – fair warning – can be occasionally difficult to understand. (The cast speaks English, but it’s the kind of English spoken in New England in...
