Posted: 21 Jun 2016 09:00 PM PDT

September and October have become fascinating months on the movie calendar. They represent this window after the summer movie season, but before awards season truly kicks in -- so you have a riskier mix of movies. Last year films like Sicario, The Martian, Crimson Peak, Goosebumps, and The Visit dropped during this timeframe. Animation Buzz: 'Ghostbusters' TV Series, Plus: 'Spider-Man' and the 'Emoji' Movie

Posted: 21 Jun 2016 07:30 PM PDT

The upcoming big-screen version of Ghostbusters has been stirring conversations for months. Will it score big at the box office? Will it flop? Whatever happens, we will have more Ghostbusters to watch. That's because Sony Pictures will be producing a small-screen version, according to Variety. The television series will be titled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force and will be produced under the oversight of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original 1984 movie. The show will be set in the year 2050 and, as might be expected, will revolve around a new group of characters. It's aiming to be ready for broadcast in early 2018. The Real Ghostbusters was the first animated series based on the 1984 movie. The show ran from 1986 to 1991.   Last year, we heard that Phil Lord...

'Independence Day: Resurgence' Buzz Is Better Than You Think

Posted: 21 Jun 2016 06:00 PM PDT

If you're wondering where all the buzz on Independence Day: Resurgence has been, you're not alone. While it's not uncommon for studios to keep a movie from critics, it is rare for such a big blockbuster to not screen for press, at least a few days before release. Bad reviews don't often hurt a sequel of this size anyway, so if anything the flood of reviews, good or bad, could have actually just been helpful in terms of publicity. As it stands, there are plenty of regular folks out there who aren't even aware it's opening this weekend.  Fortunately, the cavalry has arrived, in the form of overseas critics. Apparently 20th Century Fox isn't as concerned about reviews out of Europe, where the movie opens on roughly the same date. The studio is also...

Bruce Willis' 'Death Wish' Finds New Life With Eli Roth

Posted: 21 Jun 2016 03:00 PM PDT

One would think that a remake of a classic thriller would be easy to get off the starting line in this current climate where it seems like every new movie or TV show is based on an old movie or TV show. That just hasn't been the case with Death Wish. A remake of the gritty 1974 thriller starring Charles Bronson as a vigilante trying to clean up his city has been talked about for years now, and yet something always seems to stop it from getting made. Back in 2013 The Grey director Joe Carnahan had signed on to make the movie, an attachment that pretty much everyone celebrated. He left over creative differences. After Carnahan, the biggest names to sign on were Israeli directors of Rabies and Big Bad Wolves and star Bruce Willis. Their attachment didn't last long...
