Today in Movie Culture: Honest 'Zootopia' Trailer, Jamie Lee Curtis's 'Warcraft' Cosplay and More Posted: 07 Jun 2016 11:00 PM PDT Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture: Movie Takedown of the Day: Would anyone dare criticize the very popular, very cute Disney animated hit Zootopia? Of course Honest Trailers does: Cosplay of the Day: Jamie Lee Curtis continued to be the queen of celebrity cosplayers with this Orc get-up worn to the premiere of Warcraft (via The Playlist): Celebrity Impersonation of the Day: You could probably label this performance as cosplay, too, but it was worth doubling up to share Meryl Streep's impersonation of Donald Trump at the annual Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala (via BuzzFeed): Bad Film Analysis of the Day: Watch an alien from the future give a bad reading of... Marvel Studios Countdown: What Does A Black Widow Solo Movie Look Like? Posted: 07 Jun 2016 09:30 PM PDT In the wake of Captain America: Civil War, we finally got confirmation that Marvel will be getting around to a solo film for Black Widow. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told Deadline Hollywood, “I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow...She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise.” That comes as good news to fans who’ve been waiting patiently for the character to take center stage since her film debut in 2010’s Iron Man 2. Saturday Night Live poked some fun at what Black Widow might look like as a feature film, but this was before Feige got serious about plans for the spy. While he references... 'The Legend of Tarzan' IMAX Trailer Promises a Magnificent Spectacle Posted: 07 Jun 2016 08:00 PM PDT You'll want to break out your largest screen capable of watching YouTube videos, because The Legend of Tarzan has a new trailer specifically for its IMAX release. The new spot highlights some big scenes in the new movie, which is the latest adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs's stories of the iconic "ape man," aka the "lord of the jungle." Also, the bigger the screen the better in order to appreciate the beauty of both Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie, as Tarzan and Jane, as well as the larger-than-life scene-chewing hamminess of Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson (yep, a Django Unchained reunion). Of course, there's also the massive CG beasts on display, too. Watch the new trailer here: Just try to disregard how the... 'Now You See Me 2' Director Jon M. Chu Explains How They Cast Woody Harrelson's Brother Posted: 07 Jun 2016 06:30 PM PDT It's hard to connect the dots between all of the movies Jon M. Chu has directed. Every time you think a pattern is emerging, he seems to pivot to something else. He directed the two best Step Up movies, but before he could become "that dance movie guy," he made the surprisingly fascinating documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. From there he jumps over to big budget action with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and from that to low budget teen drama with Jem and the Holograms. He is a man of many hats, to say the least. Now Chu is back into flashier, bigger budget mode with Now You See Me 2, a sequel to 2013's surprise breakout hit about magicians who use their powers of illusion to rob from the rich and give back to the poor. If anything, NYSM2 is kind of a... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
James Wan Chose to Direct 'Aquaman' Over 'The Flash' Because of Haters Posted: 07 Jun 2016 05:00 PM PDT James Wan is awesome. Let's just acknowledge that at the top. A lot of filmmakers use horror movies as a stepping stone into Hollywood, but then turn their back on the genre. Wan refuses to do that. Even though he could spend the rest of his career only directing massive franchise tentpoles like Furious 7, he still returns to direct smaller horror movies like The Conjuring 2. He has consistently made unexpected choices throughout his career, and they've paid off every single time. Apparently a few years ago Wan made one of those unexpected choices, only the public is just now finding out about it. In an interview with Mike Ryan at Uproxx, Wan revealed that Warner Bros. gave him the choice to direct either The Flash or Aquaman. He chose Aquaman, and he did so precisely...
