The Last Sci-Fi Blog: Why a 'Logan’s Run' Remake Is More Relevant Than Ever

Posted: 03 Jun 2016 08:00 PM PDT

Every few years, someone threatens to remake Logan’s Run and every few years, a new Logan’s Run fails to emerge. X-Men director Bryan Singer tried to shepherd a new version to the big screen for a few years and more recently, Ken Levine, Alex Garland, Will Beal, and Christopher McQuarrie have all taken a shot. The latest piece of news finds Colony co-creator Ryan Condal coming on board to rework a treatment that Simon Kinberg wrote last year into a full-fledged screenplay. Someday, someone is going to make a new Logan’s Run movie. And this is a good thing, because Logan’s Run is one of the great science fiction films of the ‘70s and a movie whose themes have only become increasingly relevant with time. The weird thing about director Michael...

James Gunn Teases Thor Cameo in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'

Posted: 03 Jun 2016 06:30 PM PDT

What happens when Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn puts a picture of him holding the Thor hammer on Instagram? You get stories like this!   I'm starting to think this has nothing to being worthy. A photo posted by James Gunn (@jamesgunn) on Jun 3, 2016 at 9:31am PDT Gunn was on the set of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel when he posted the above image, perhaps teasing a cameo role for Chris Hemsworth's Thor in the movie, due out next May. Whether Thor is in the movie or if just his hammer is in the movie -- or if both will be featured in a post-credits scene that Gunn is also directing -- we do not know. What we do know is that Thor: Ragnarok -- teased as a space-set road trip adventure featuring Thor and the Hulk...

Watch: These 'Fast and Furious 8' Stunts Make It Look Like a 'Mad Max' Movie

Posted: 03 Jun 2016 05:15 PM PDT

As the eighth installment in the ever-evolving Fast and Furious franchise continues its production, some new videos have emerged giving us a glimpse at what to expect from Fast 8 (or #F8, as its known on social media) when it hits theaters next year on April 14.  First up the Fast 8 crew were recently in Iceland filming what looks to be a crazy chase sequence across a snowy landscape featuring all kinds of bonkers vehicles, from sports cars to snowmobiles to Mad Max-like modified armored tanks (some of which look to be housing the actual cameras). We half expect some dude to step into frame and just throw a kitchen sink into the mix, too. Check this out.   Next up the production was filming in Cleveland (which may be doubling for New York City), and this...

WARNING: Spoilers for DC Universe: Rebirth #1, Superman: Rebirth #1, Batman: Rebirth #1, Green Arrow: Rebirth #1, and Green Lanterns: Rebirth #1 follow. The last couple of weeks have been pretty eventful for DC Comics and its fans. Word came down relatively recently about a major course-change happening as the publisher's film adaptations at Warner Bros. continue to progress, and last week the publishing arm of the company released their own major course change – which many would likely classify as a correction – in the form of DC Universe: Rebirth #1. This issue, written by longtime comics writer and future DC Films overseer Geoff Johns with art by grade-A talent like Gary Frank, Ethan Van Sciver, Phil Jimenez, and Ivan Reis, presented...

Ben Affleck's 'Batman' Movie Will Aim For Originality

Posted: 03 Jun 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Now that the solo Batman project from Ben Affleck has officially been confirmed, attention has turned to what story will be told in the movie. We know that Affleck has been working with DC's Geoff Johns on a screenplay for "the definitive Batman film," which may feature a variety of villains Johns has been writing for DC Comics since 2000 and has served as Chief Creative Officer for the company since 2010. He has written a wide variety of comics over the years and may be best known for his work featuring The Flash and Green Lantern. Of note, he collaborated with artist Gary Frank on Batman: Year One, a graphic novel published in 2012 that was out of continuity for the character. Posted: 03 Jun 2016 12:00 PM PDT

X-Men: Director Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse) suggests that shape-shifting mutant Mystique (above) could be featured in an X-Men spin-off movie because she has a "different view of the world. … It opens up a lot of avenues." The character was originally played by Rebecca Romijn and more recently by Jennifer Lawrence, who has signaled her readiness to move on from the role. Still, Singer said that Mystique would be "right, whether it's Jennifer or not." [Empire via THR]   1950s Fashion Movie: Daniel Day-Lewis, who won an Academy Award for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood (above), may reunite with the director for a movie about the New York fashion industry in the 1950s.
