Comics on Film: How Prince Made Superhero Movies Into Pop Cultue Events With the 'Batman' Soundtrack Posted: 22 Apr 2016 08:00 PM PDT Yesterday, the world lost one of its most enigmatic and undeniably talented musical performers, in a year that seems all too willing to take our beloved musical icons from us. At the age of only 57, Prince left an indelible mark on the music industry, with millions of fans all over the world now having to say goodbye to a powerful communicator through his musical art. But, this is Comics on Film, right? Why does this article feel at all compelled to touch on that loss? Simple: if we didn't have Prince, then we wouldn't have one of the most memorable albums ever created that was tied to one of the biggest cultural events in the history of comic book cinema. That album and film, of course, was Batman. Dark Knight, Bright Prince A mere four... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Movie Delay Updates: 'Jungle Book' Brings In 'Gravity' Director, Blomkamp's 'Alien' Keeps Waiting Posted: 22 Apr 2016 06:30 PM PDT Two movies that have seemed doomed because of competing projects are still on track and far from in trouble. Find out the latest on the non-Disney live-action Jungle Book adaptation and the next Alien sequel below. The Jungle Book Even if Disney's new live-action remake of their animated version of The Jungle Book wasn't such a huge hit, the similar adaptation set up at Warner Bros. would have been in trouble just for its being the second of a dueling pair to arrive. The studio has since delayed release of their own live-action Jungle Book, which is being helmed by performance-capture master Andy Serkis, who also plays Baloo. And while we now have until October 2018 to see this one, the production is taking the time to get help from filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron... The Rock Knows It Wouldn't Be 'Baywatch' Without Pam Anderson Posted: 22 Apr 2016 05:00 PM PDT Going off of how often The Rock breaks news about Baywatch on his Instagram feed, the rebooted comedy has been filming for approximately forever and still has a few weeks left to go and it keeps getting bigger and bigger, adding more and more cast along the way. The latest person to rejoin the show-turned-movie is none other than original Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson. The Rock shared the above picture of himself with the glamorous Anderson, who apparently just finished filming a stint in the movie. Odds are we won't be seeing her in the iconic red one piece, though. Her character on the show, CJ Parker, is being played by Kelly Rohrbach this time around, so she'll most likely be stepping in for a cheeky cameo. Anderson will also be joined by original... Update: Michael Keaton Will Not Be a Villain In 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Posted: 22 Apr 2016 02:30 PM PDT Update 4/22/16: Looks like we need to add a step 5 below. As it turns out, the talks with Michael Keaton for a villain have already ended and Sony is out looking for new actors for the same role. Previously 4/13/16: There has been a lot of Spider-Man news hitting this week, so let's just run down an order of events and see what kind of a conclusion seems reasonable. 1. Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige tells us the next Spider-Man movie will have characters we've never seen on the big screen: "The great thing about the Spidey characters is that there are a lot of them. A lot of them have been in other films. A lot of them from the comics haven’t been in other films yet. We’ll do a combination of both." 2. Sony confirms the rumor... Watch Michael Keaton Reveal the Brutal Story Behind McDonald's in First 'The Founder' Trailer Posted: 22 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT Michael Keaton burst onto the movie scene in 1982 with his memorable performance as the fast-talking character Bill Blazejowski, aka Billy Blaze, in Ron Howard's Night Shift. Opposite Henry Winkler as a quiet, unassuming morgue attendant, Keaton was a ball of fire, an enterprising young man who carried a tape recorder so he wouldn't forget all his great ideas. What was especially fun about Keaton's performance was that he made the character likable, despite his often dishonest intentions. Keaton had been showing up on television shows and movies in small parts, but his turn in Night Shift was the right role at the right time. He capitalized on that opportunity by starring in Mr. Mom the following year. Written by John Hughes, the movie caught the tenor of...
