Disney Is Already Working on 'Jungle Book 2': Report Posted: Disney is riding high on its upcoming live-action take on "The Jungle Book," so much so that it's reportedly already working on a sequel to the flick. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mouse House has tapped director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks to once again assume those roles on the follow-up, which will reportedly be based on other Mowgli-centric stories by author Rudyard Kipling, who penned the original "Jungle Book" tales in the late 1800s. "Disney plans to dig deep into the source material," per THR. While this isn't exactly a new concept -- a film getting a sequel order before it hits domestic theaters -- it's good news for the studio, which bet big on its latest trend of live-action remakes of its original animated films, including recent hits like "Cinderella" and "Alice in Wonderland." "The Jungle Book" -- inspired by Disney's 1967 version of Kipling's book -- is already doing solid business overseas, where it's opened to the tune of $31.7 million in several international markets (including $8.4 million in India, good for second place on the country's all-time list of western movie openings). It's unclear if any or all of the starry "Jungle Book" voice cast (which includes Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, and Ben Kingsley) will return for the follow-up, but expect newcomer Neel Sethi, who plays Mowgli, to be front and center. Star-Lord and Thor Confirmed for 'Avengers: Infinity War' Posted: The Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming together in a major way when "Avengers: Infinity War" hits theaters in 2018, and now, we know definitively which character will connect with the key Avengers crew for the first time in that flick. In an interview with ComicBook.com, directors Joe and Anthony Russo -- who also helmed the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" -- confirmed that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord from "Guardians of the Galaxy" will pop up in "Infinity." As Anthony Russo explained to the site, the "Infinity War" movies (which are split into two parts) are "intended to be a culmination of everything that's happened before in the MCU," and that includes the far-flung, space-set adventures of Star-Lord. "[Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done," Anthony said of the "Guardians" director. "Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited [about his appearance in 'Infinity']." And that's not all. According to the brothers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has also been confirmed to join the "Infinity War" proceedings, and that will directly tie in with what happens in the character's next solo flick, due out in 2017. "I'm excited to work with Thor," Joe Russo told ComicBook.com. "They're doing some really interesting stuff with 'Ragnarok' and where he's gonna be at the beginning of 'Infinity War' is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that." "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1" is due in theaters on May 4, 2018. MTV Movie Awards: Watch The Lonely Island's Will Smith Tribute Posted: The 2016 MTV Movie Awards aired on Sunday, featuring a tribute to Will Smith, who took home the prestigious (for MTV, anyway) Generation Award. Before Smith collected his golden popcorn statuette from presenters Halle Berry and Queen Latifah, The Lonely Island serenaded the star with a medley featuring some of his greatest hits. In true Lonely Island fashion, the stunt was both goofy and infectious, paying tribute to Smith while also having fun with his ever-evolving musical styles (and fashion sense -- shout-out to the one-strap overalls) from the late '80s through the late '90s. The trio -- Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer -- sang and danced their way through tunes including "Parents Just Don't Understand" and "Summertime" (Smith's breakout songs -- when he was known as The Fresh Prince -- with DJ Jazzy Jeff), the theme song from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," the "Men in Black" title track (accompanied by some well-timed handclaps), and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." It's a testament to Smith's infectious earworms and enduring musical legacy that each song elicited a huge response from the crowd (especially the latter two tunes), despite none of them being released this century. Check out the clip above, and just try to prevent yourself from gettin' jiggy in front of your computer screen. (Spoiler alert: It's impossible.) Posted: When you've got a cast this good-looking, you have to make a sequel. In March, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" stars Megan Fox and Stephen Amell popped by Moviefone's exclusive photo booth during their visit to WonderCon 2016, where they were promoting the follow-up to the 2014 hit "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," and we got some smokin' hot photos as a result. Fox went semi-casual (hey, WonderCon is a casual kinda event), sporting a dark blazer and knee-torn jeans, while Amell opted for the full-blown T-shirt/jeans/backwards cap weekend look. Of course, they both knocked it out of the park. Be mesmerized by their photos, watch the trailer for TMNT2, and check out "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" when it hits theaters June 3rd. Here Are Three New 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Photos Posted: Excitement for Netflix's upcoming "Gilmore Girls" revival has only continued to build since the streaming service officially announced it would produce four new 90-minute episodes. Last week, we got our first glimpse at the continued adventures of the residents of Stars Hollow, and now, Netflix has released an additional three images to whet fans' appetites. The new photos feature the titular women -- Rory (Alexis Bledel), Lorelai (Lauren Graham), and Emily (Kelly Bishop) -- both in intimate one-on-one settings, as well as in one of our favorite recurring storylines: wacky town meetings. The image that features that latter event includes Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai (who are still together -- yay!) looking aghast, probably at some boneheaded statement Taylor (Michael Winters) has made. Babette (Sally Struthers) appears similarly annoyed. Next up is a chat between Lorelai and Rory, in the familiar kitchen of Lorelai's Stars Hollow home. The mother and daughter appear deep in conversation, and the giant mugs sitting on the table between them suggest that they haven't kicked their coffee addiction in the eight years they've been off TV screens (the Pop Tarts and Chinese takeout cartons also reveal that the girls' junk food cravings are still intact, too). Does this mean that Rory is still living with her mother, after leaving to cover Barack Obama's burgeoning presidential campaign in the series finale? The photos released by Entertainment Weekly last week show Rory standing in front of a classroom full of Chilton students, though we're not convinced she's given up her writing passion to become an English teacher (maybe she's just visiting as a successful alumna, regaling her former school with tales from her fabulous journalism career?). And Rory and Emily share some alone time in the final image, with Emily pouring herself a drink from her luxurious bar cart (which we lusted over for pretty much the entire duration of the original series). This moment may revolve around Emily mourning Richard, whose death was written into the show to reflect the real-life passing of actor Edward Herrmann. We know that a significant portion of Emily's storyline during these new episodes will dwell on how she handles the loss of her husband (according to Bishop: not well); perhaps Rory is there to provide comfort during this difficult time. There's no premiere date yet for the new episodes, though Netflix has indicated they will debut sometime later this year. "Gilmore Girls" is in production -- which finally includes Melissa McCarthy! -- now. Photo credit: Saeed Adyani/Netflix This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Second 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Trailer Teases More Death, Battle, Dragons Posted: In HBO's second full "Game of Thrones" Season 6 trailer, Arya Stark gets a second chance to be No One, and fans get a second chance to watch, rewatch, pause, screen grab, watch again, rewatch, squee, and rewind to keep analyzing the 2016 footage. The first big Season 6 trailer came out last month. This new one has many new scenes, but they seem to be set around the same time, most likely from the same initial few episodes to keep spoilers at bay. The premiere just aired for a few critics and fans, and they said major shockers are ahead even for the hardcore speculating fans who read the books and think they have an idea of what's ahead. Maybe we don't know as much as we thought? There's a lot to unpack from this trailer, and our perceptions may change after watching it a dozen more times, but here's what we see at first glance. We see more of Tyrion Lannister running Meereen, and potentially freeing Daenerys Targaryen's other two dragons. Tyrion and Varys meet a mysterious woman in Meereen. (Who is she? A new red priestess?) Dany gets stripped again. Jaime Lannister threatens the High Sparrow. Theon Greyjoy appears to be imprisoned in King's Landing, with Margaery Tyrell ... unless that's Margaery's brother Ser Loras just wearing the same style of shirt as Theon? (Natalie Dormer did say Margaery would have a new verbal sparring partner this season, so maybe we just want it to be Theon because that would be amazing. Theon is definitely shown later in the trailer, but that's probably his sister Yara across from him.) Jorah Mormont shows the advancement of his greyscale. Sansa Stark looks strong, possibly with an army behind her, thinking about what was taken from her. Is she facing off with Ramsay Bolton? We see Ramsay ready for another battle. Also, the Greyjoys are back. The Night's King is back. Even the bloody Freys are back. Sam and Gilly are on their ship to the Citadel. Brienne is still with Pod, maybe at Riverrun. Davos picks up Jon's argument that this is a war between the living and the dead and the dead are coming. Is Davos in White Harbor when he makes that argument? That looks like the House Manderly sigil in the background. (OK, never mind. A clearer view makes it seem more like House Mormont, which would put Davos -- and Sansa, who appears to be with him at that point -- on Bear Island.) Also, Cersei Lannister is pushing someone, some Lannister, to stand at the head of their army ... for revenge against Dorne? Is she talking to Jaime or even Robert Strong, or perhaps young King Tommen? Last season's premiere, the witch Maggy told Cersei gold would be the shrouds of her children. Joffrey is dead. Myrcella is dead. Is Tommen next? And Jon Snow. There's a scene toward the start that wants to suggest Tormund is saying, about Jon, "I thought he was the man to lead us through the long night, but I was wrong." But what if he's not speaking of Jon, what if he's speaking to Jon, after a certain Red Woman works some magic? Watch the trailer: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Is Jyn of 'Rogue One' Rey's Mother? 'Star Wars' Actress Shoots Down Theory Posted: It seemed to fit, but maybe it was too obvious? When the trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" came out, many fans looked at Felicity Jones's rebellious character Jyn Erso and thought maybe she could be the mother of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" heroine Rey (Daisy Ridley). Read more from Daisy over here. She confirmed that Episode VIII will be "darker" than Episode VII, and there's debate on whether Rey is or is not a Jedi. After her training on set with Mark Hamill, she's well on her way. Do you think that's the end of the Rey/Jyn theory, or was Daisy just dodging potential spoilers? Want more stuff like this? Mark Hamill Shares Perfect Photo for Daisy Ridley's Birthday Posted: Lucky Daisy Ridley is. Yes. Mmm. Even luckier is Mark Hamill! The Force is especially strong with Rey's real-life counterpart this week. Daisy turned 24 on April 10, which is also the day the MTV Movie Awards aired, with "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" winning Movie of the Year and Daisy accepting the Breakthrough Performance award as Rey. What's better than winning awards? Getting some Yoda-level training from Mark Hamill on the set of "Star Wars: Episode VIII." Here's the photo Mark shared in honor of Daisy's birthday:
Epic! Obviously they should walk around the set like that all the time. It worked for Luke with Yoda in Episode V, aka "The Empire Strikes Back," so Daisy should stick with her Jedi master and follow that pointing finger wherever it leads. That's not the only awesomeness for Daisy/Rey this week. "Room" star Jacob Tremblay asked fans for help in naming his adorable new dog, and the devoted "Star Wars" fan revealed that he decided to name her Rey:
All together now: Awwww. It was announced back in mid-February that Episode VIII was shooting at Pinewoods Studio in London:
Episode VIII is scheduled for release December 15, 2017. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Early 'Captain America: Civil War' Reviews Are Spectacular Posted: Spider-Man. Black Panther. The Airport scene. Prepare to be talking about them after you see "Captain America: Civil War." Cap's third solo (sort of) movie isn't arriving in theaters until May 6, so it's a wee bit too early to be checking Rotten Tomatoes for official reviews. However, some critics got to see the movie almost a month early, and shared brief reactions on Twitter. Long story short: They loved it. Granted, screening audiences tend to be overly enthusiastic, but they got pretty specific (and consistent) about what they loved, while avoiding any spoilers:
So they kinda liked it, huh? Anthony Mackie (Falcon) said this was Marvel's best movie to date and the first to maybe even be worthy of a Best Picture nomination. Too much hype? Maybe. Chris Evans was at the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend to show off the first full clip from the movie, featuring Cap, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch. Watch that over here and prepare to judge the film for yourself next month. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
This Hard-R 'Deadpool' Deleted Scene Is, Um, a Pleasure Posted: "Deadpool," aka the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, can come home with you on May 10. Even before the film came out in theaters, the stars were talking up raunchy jokes and scenes that didn't quite make the cut and may show up on DVD/Blu-ray. Over the weekend, MTV News debuted one of the deleted scenes we'll see in the bonus materials, showing Ryan Reynolds's Wade Wilson in an extended version of his superhero training. The sexy mothaf--ker's montage includes him pleasuring himself, saving a cat, taking down bad guys, working on his Advent calendar, hanging out at the bar, jerking off a bit more, etc. Warning: NSFW (Having trouble? Watch the deleted scene over on MTV.com.) Get More: Music News There's a lot more ahead in the DVD/Blu-ray release. As Reynolds teased on Instagram, "This thing's gonna have more extras than a battle scene from Lawrence of Arabia. Including never before seen footage of my own birth." The "Deadpool" star was just at the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, where he got his own special "Shoop" opening from Salt-N-Pepper, and picked up wins for Best Comedic Performance and Best Fight, with Ed Skrein. Ry-guy walked away a happy man:

'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere Twists Will Shock Even Hardcore Fans Posted: "The Red Woman" is coming April 24, and we may not be as ready as we thought. The "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premiere has that title and, even though HBO is tightening the reins on spoilers, the (apparently shock-and-discomfort-inducing) first episode screened Sunday night at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The Hollywood Reporter added its own promise of shocks:
THR also noted that "Kit Harington" remains in the Season 6 opening credits, which is expected, since Jon Snow is at least appearing as a corpse. We are some of those hardcore, speculating fans, and we made some guesses on what happens to Jon in the premiere, especially with this episode title . But now we're bracing for the rug to be pulled out, whether on his storyline or any other. The gasps of shock have us a little bit worried, though, and what's with the uncomfortable laughter? And the season will be chilling? Is that a play on the White Walkers or chilling in other ways? WE KNOW NOTHING, JON SNOW. Any theories, fellow Westerosi? Want more stuff like this? MTV Movie Awards: Watch New 'Suicide Squad,' 'Fantastic Beasts,' 'Civil War' Clips Posted: The 2016 MTV Movie Awards didn't just feature winners, performances, and a rap about Leo being raped by a bear. (!) It also gave us new trailers/clips from three of the most anticipated movies of the year: "Suicide Squad," "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and "Captain America: Civil War." The Civil War clip was shown first, after an intro from Chris Evans. It starts as a full action scene between Cap (Chris Evans), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), then adds in footage from past trailers: "Civil War" comes out May 6. The new "Suicide Squad" trailer was next, getting an intro from Will Smith (who also got the MTV Generation Award), Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Cara Delevingne, and giving a glimpse of Ben Affleck's Batman: "I'm known to be quite vexing" should go on all of our resumes. FYI, director David Ayer weighed in on the reshoots rumor, tweeting:
"Suicide Squad" opens August 5. The "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" trailer aired at the very end of the show, after an intro from Eddie Redmayne, showing more of Colin Farrell and giving us an Albus Dumbledore name-drop: This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
