Just How Many Villains Does Batman Capture in 'Suicide Squad'?

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 10:00 PM PDT

All of them, according to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who went through five hours of physical prosthetic work each day to become the iconic Batman villain Killer Croc. "They could've easily CGI'd this [character], but David Ayer was insistent on casting an actor because he wanted you to relate to the character" Akinnuoye-Agbaje tells us. "As arduous as five hours of makeup was, it was a challenge that I wanted to take on. Because if I'm going to go through that much, I'm going to act my butt off." Speaking of butts, much of the conversation surrounding Suicide Squad right now is just how much butt kicking Ben Affleck's Batman will get to do, especially since audiences finally got to see him do his Bat-thang in Batman v Superman...

Comics on Film: Will Ben Affleck's Batman Be DC's Nick Fury?

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 09:00 PM PDT

Back in May of 2008, it was very easy to hear a buzz of awe move through the theater during the post-credits scene of the original Iron Man film. For comic book fans seeing it that first weekend, the presence of Samuel L. Jackson was obvious. For other general movie-goers, all they needed to know was that a star as well-known as Jackson appearing in such a short scene likely meant something bigger was coming down the line. In that scene, when Jackson’s Nick Fury told Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark about something called the “Avenger Initiative,” the expansive world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – something beyond the bounds of the original Iron Man film – came to life in the imaginations of audiences for the first time. Just about...

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 07:30 PM PDT

After a bit of a quiet period, Spider-Man's return to the big screen seems to be coming together quickly with the film's official title, logo, and a potential high-profile addition to the cast all generating some buzz this week. Batman (and Birdman) star Michael Keaton is now rumored to be playing an unidentified villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which will bring the famous webslinger into Marvel Studios' cinematic universe thanks to a partnership with Sony Pictures. It will also bring the former DC Comics superhero actor into Marvel's movie-verse, but it's anyone's guess at this point as to which character from Spidey's rogues gallery he'll portray in the film. Given what we know of Keaton's rumored role – and more importantly, what...

You may have heard the buzz about Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation during Sundance. Now you can see what the festival's double winner -- Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award -- looks like. Maybe also get a sense of why it's now such a heavy contender for other, bigger honors at the end of this year and beyond. Yes, people are already talking it up for a Best Picture nomination.  Fox Searchlight has debuted the first trailer for the historical drama, which will surely remind viewers of recent Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave. The spot does make the film look like it could be just as strong a work, but the trailer itself already sends chills down the spine with its use of Nina Simone's rendition of "Strange Fruit" on the soundtrack...

Would Jeff Goldblum Ever Return to the 'Jurassic' Franchise? Here's His Answer

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 04:30 PM PDT

Two things you should know about what it's like to have a chat with actor Jeff Goldblum: 1. It will always be an incredible entertaining and enlightening discussion, and 2. Be prepared for your conversation to veer off in all sorts of different directions. When we sat down to talk with him about this summer's Independence Day: Resurgence at CinemaCon, we spoke about everything from Casablanca to elephant-tusk poachers to jazz to Independence Day and, eventually, to Jurassic Park. Goldblum will reprise his role as David Levinson from Independence Day in its sequel, due out June 24, 20 years after first defeating an invading alien force alongside Will Smith. It's been almost 20 years since we last saw him dodging dinosaurs in a The Lost World: Jurassic Park, so are any...

‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer on Reshoots, Sequels and Easter Eggs

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 03:00 PM PDT

“It’s like hanging out with the coolest kids in the school for a couple hours,” director David Ayer tells us about Suicide Squad, this summer’s all-supervillain team-up movie from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad will continue to advance DC’s new cinematic universe by flipping the script and introducing a crew of supervillains – not superheroes – who’ll band together to save the day. “There’s a lot of humor in this – it’s a fun movie,” Ayer teases, adding that the film is essentially about a group of insane people who collide in all sorts of badass ways. “They start out hating each other, and by the end they’d die for one...

First Look at Scarlett Johansson in 'Ghost in the Shell'

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Production has begun on Ghost in the Shell, the upcoming English-language adaptation of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. Scarlett Johansson stars in the movie and the first official photo (above) shows her in a pensive mood. The original manga series revolved around Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg who led Public Security Section 9, an organization that fought cyberterrorist crimes in Japan in the middle of the 21st century. Kusanagi survived a serious accident as a child, which is why she became a cyborg. A movie version opened in theaters in Japan in 1995 and then received a limited theatrical release in the U.S. in early 1996. Even though it wasn't a monster hit, it gained acclaim from fans and critics alike, and its release on home...
