'The West Wing' Cast Will Reunite at ATX Fest Posted: This year's ATX Television Festival lineup has just gotten even more awesome: The cast of "The West Wing" is one of several new additions now set for a reunion at the event. ATX Fest announced its updated lineup on Thursday, and the most exciting name is easily "The West Wing," NBC's political drama that ran for seven seasons and racked up multiple Emmy wins (and stole viewers' hearts) from 1999 to 2006. Creator and original showrunner Aaron Sorkin is set to appear, as are the following cast members: Bradley Whitford (Josh), Dule Hill (Charlie), Joshua Malina (Will), Richard Schiff (Toby), and Janel Moloney (Donna). More actors are expected to join the panel (after all, you can't call it a proper "West Wing" reunion without President Bartlett and C.J. Cregg, a.k.a. Martin Sheen and Allison Janney), which also includes director Thomas Schlamme. The participants will gather in honor of the 10th anniversary of the show's series finale. In addition to that excellent news, Thursday's announcement also included the addition of the casts of "Ugly Betty" and "Rescue Me." The "Ugly Betty" event will close out the festival, and will feature cast members America Ferrera, Eric Mabius, Becki Newton, Michael Urie, Ashley Jensen, Ana Ortiz, Tony Plana, Mark Indelicato, Vanessa Williams, and Rebecca Romijn. The "Rescue Me" panel will include stars Denis Leary, Callie Thorne, Andrea Roth, Michael Lombardi, James McCaffrey, Lenny Clarke, and Larenz Tate. Previously announced panels include reunions of the casts of "Friday Night Lights," "Everybody Loves Raymond," and "State of Grace," and the writers of "The O.C." and "The Shield." The ATX Television Festival runs from June 9-12 in Austin, Texas. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
HBO Declares 'Jon Snow Is Dead' in 'Game of Thrones' Premiere Synopsis Posted: Questions concerning the fate of "Game of Thrones" character Jon Snow have swirled since the protagonist's apparent death in season five, despite all evidence pointing to his definitive demise. But coy statements from cast members (and actor Kit Harrington's allegedly busy schedule) have suggested that that's not the case at all. Now, HBO is chiming in with its own authoritative answer to the "Is Jon Snow really dead?" debate. The cable network has finally released the official synopsis for the season six premiere episode, set to air later this month, and its very first sentence is pretty clear about the character's status. It says:
We have to hand it to HBO for this subversive bit of trolling, since fans are not likely to take such a bold statement at face value unless they get confirmation from the actual episode itself. And since no one -- not even critics -- will be able to see said installment, titled "The Red Woman," in advance, the wait to either prove or disprove that declaration is now even more interminable. Season six of "Game of Thrones" premieres on HBO on April 24. Tide yourself over with repeated viewings of the trailer, and check out the photo gallery below. Charlize Theron to Star in 'Fast 8': Report Posted: Charlize Theron will follow her role in "Mad Max: Fury Road" with a part in an even more high-octane action franchise: The Oscar winner has reportedly signed on to star in "Fast 8." According to Deadline, Theron has just inked a deal to join the cast of the latest installment in the blockbuster "Fast & Furious" series. There are no details yet about just what her role entails, though the trade notes that she'll be playing "a new character." The role will reunite Theron with her "The Italian Job" director F. Gary Gray, who's helming "Fast 8." She'll join returning stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham. As Deadline notes, Theron's casting continues a recent trend for the venerable "Fast" franchise, which has added more high-profile names to its ensemble -- including now-regulars Johnson and Statham -- in its last few outings in order to inject some new life into the series. And while "Fast 8" may not be able to top the sensational box office of predecessor "Furious 7," Theron's casting is a sign that filmmakers are going to do everything in their power to try. "Fast 8," which is set in New York City, is due in theaters on April 14, 2017. See First Official Photos From the 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Posted: Welcome back to Stars Hollow! "Gilmore Girls" stars Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) are on the new cover of Entertainment Weekly, which has the first official photos and details on the Netflix revival. There's no official release date yet, but four 90-minute mini movies are expected on the streaming service later this year. EW visited the Warner Bros. soundstage in February, and the magazine (on newsstands Friday) has scoop on Rory's career (looks like she's a teacher); Lorelai and Luke (Scott Patterson); guest stars like Sutton Foster and Mae Whitman (and apparently Sally Struthers, seen in a photo below); and Emily's (Kelly Bishop) life as a widow, after the death of Edward Herrmann, who played her husband, Richard Gilmore. Plus, there are reportedly plans for more movies after this 2016 batch. Maybe Melissa McCarthy can return as Sookie in a future installment, since the timing was off this time around. (UPDATE: Melissa McCarthy just updated on 4/7 that she will be in the revival this year after all; they managed to find time in her schedule.) In the meantime, check out the new photos from EW/Netflix, and the gallery below with all the details we have to date: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Ken Laurence Walks Out of 'Project Runway: All Stars' ... Then Walks Back In Posted: UPDATE: He flounced out. He flounced back in. Ken got upset and left the workroom, heading out into the street and going wherever he went. He was not seen in the workroom the next morning when the other designers returned to finish their garments. But then he just showed up again and got back to work. He explained that he got so frustrated and was on the verge of taking it out on the other designers and everyone around him, so he needed to step away and cool down. (Apparently that's OK, in terms of the rules of the show, to just leave and come back?) Although Ken lost a ton of time on his design, and neither he nor the judges liked it much, he did not go home. Instead, Layana Aguilar was eliminated. And now the drama can continue for the rest of the season... Original post: This season of "Project Runway: All Stars" has been 75 percent *drama*, 25 percent actual designs. Up to this point, Ken Laurence -- an eyebrow-raising addition to the 2016 cast after his emotional volcano eruption in Season 12 -- has not been one of the key drama players. This season has focused around Sam Donovan vs. Kini Zamora, with most of the other designers appearing to join Kini in side-eyeing Sam. Ken has had a strong showcase for his designs and his humor. But it looks like the pressure will get the better of Ken again in tonight's (April 7) episode. Entertainment Weekly posted an exclusive new preview, with Ken sharing his frustration with his garment, and the fact that he sewed his shoulder seams the wrong way. "I'm not that fond of my work and I'm very frustrated. I can feel the water boiling and it's about to get ready to explode everywhere." We see him grab his bag and tell the crew, "I'm gonna take my ass home. ... I'm done." He walks out of the building and appears to hail a cab. It has all the hallmarks of a quit, but this group of divas loves to go overboard and it would not surprise us to see Ken cool down after a while and return to the workroom to finish his garment. If Tim Gunn were on "All Stars" he could try to talk Ken into just making it work. But no such luck. Maybe Dom Streater, who won Season 12 as the only returning winner, can try to help cool that water boiling inside Ken. Since Ken is shown talking to the cameras, in hindsight, to explain his frustration with himself, it does seem like he returns and doesn't just walk out for good. Ken took to Twitter to preview the episode and defend his stressed-out reaction:
Fair enough on drama = stress, but you never saw the teens pull this stuff on "Project Runway: Junior." Just saying. "Project Runway: All Stars" Season 5 airs at 9 p.m. EDT on Lifetime. Jai Courtney Denies 'Suicide Squad' Is Adding More Humor in Reshoots Posted: "Suicide Squad" is indeed shooting more footage, Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) told Entertainment Tonight, but it's not to add "funnier" scenes. That was the report/rumor on the street, with a source saying every joke in the DC film was in the trailer, and since fans loved the trailer, Warner Bros. wanted reshoots to add more humor to lighten the tone of the film. But not so fast. When ET's reporter asked Jai about reshoots to make "Suicide Squad" funnier, he said: "I think there's plenty of that in it. I wouldn't say we're going back to make it funnier, there's some additional action stuff that we've been doing, which is pretty dope. Yeah, really we're just kind of adding in that sense." He added that you "can't believe everything you read" in terms of the rumors out there. Here is is, saying all that and more: Some cynics probably still suspect there's an element of tone-lightening to the reshoots, since "Batman v Superman" was so earnest and dark and that was a complaint from several viewers. Then again, that may just be an assumption from Monday morning quarterbacks who think DC/Warner will want to veer closer to Marvel's more humorous formula because Marvel has been doing well with both critics and audiences, and the DC/Marvel tone war must continue until we all die of exhaustion. "Suicide Squad" opens August 5, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Trent Harmon Won 'American Idol' Over La'Porsha Renae: Right or Wrong Call? Posted: UPDATE: Another white guy from the South has done it: Trent Harmon won Season 15, making him our final American Idol. Both Trent and La'Porsha were strong talents, and Trent earned his fan support, but that makes 10 male winners and only five female winners in the history of the series. Is it just coincidence? Were the men just that much better or did the demographic shift toward favoring men over the course of the series? Four of the five women (Kelly, Fantasia, Carrie, Jordin) won their seasons in the first six years, and then we fell into the white guys with guitars trope that was occasionally just white guys from the South or cute white guys from wherever. Point to ponder: If Kelly Clarkson competed on a season in the past five or six years, would she have won? Original post: The very last episode of "American Idol" airs tonight (Thursday, April 7) from 8 to 10 p.m. on Fox. Last night, the fans who still vote for AI voted their hearts out for either La'Porsha Renae or Trent Harmon to be the final winner, completing the circle Kelly Clarkson started back in 2002. The votes are in. The results are out there, somewhere, in stone. So who is it? Who won? We're still betting on La'Porsha -- who also has the votes of the first two winners, KC and Ruuuuuuben Studdard -- but this could be a close one. Trent knocked his "Chandelier" performance out of the park, and it pays to end strong. Plus, Dalton Rapattoni was eliminated at third place, and his fans are split on where to send their votes, but a few seem to be going for Trent. If you look at Twitter, you see voting messages for both finalists. Over at TVLine, both Michael Slezak and former Idol singer Melinda Doolittle put their money on La'Porsha, but over at AmericanIdolNet, their poll has Trent winning 70 percent to 30. Guys -- especially cute young guys, especially cute young guys who play guitar or are just from the South -- tend to win Idol. Only five girls have won the Fox show, despite Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood being the most successful winners to date. The last woman to win was Candice Glover in Season 12. Before her, all of the women to win were in the first six seasons. So as much as we'd like to go old school and say, definitively, La'Porsha Renae WILL WIN Season 15, we've learned from our days of shouting with complete certainty that Adam Lambert would OF COURSE win Season 8 that it's safer to accept that anything will happen. The only certainty is that Ryan Seacrest ... will ... drag ... the ... results ... out ... for ... as ... long ... as ... possible. After the break! Who do you think should and will win the title of final Idol winner? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Alan Rickman's Death Stopped the 'Galaxy Quest' Sequel That Would Be Filming Now Posted: We did not need another example of how the entire galaxy is worse off without the great Alan Rickman but, lucky us, here's a fresh one: Sam Rockwell told Nerdist the band was going to get back together this year for a "Galaxy Quest" sequel, and then Alan Rickman died in January. So they lost their Alexander Dane and the whole thing fell apart. As Rockwell explained (via Entertainment Weekly): "They were going to do a sequel on Amazon. We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn't available – he has a show – and everybody's schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That's a hard void to fill." It's impossible to fill, but by Grabthar's Hammer they should avenge his untimely death and do it anyway! Tim Allen should make himself available -- come on, Jason Nesmith owes Alexander Dane. Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Enrico Colantoni, Daryl Mitchell -- they all need to come back and honor Dane/Rickman. If not now, then maybe they can schedule something for the 20th anniversary of the 1999 comedy? Please? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Rogue One' Trailer: First 'Star Wars' Standalone Is a Badass Rebel Posted: The first trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" just arrived with a rebel yell and some welcome throwbacks to the OG era. "Good Morning America" debuted the teaser trailer for the first standalone story in the "Star Wars" universe, which stars Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk, and hits theaters in December. Felicity Jones's Jyn takes center stage, like Daisy Ridley's Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." We hear a younger Mon Mothma describe Jyn as on her own from age 15, reckless, aggressive, undisciplined. "This is a rebellion, isn't it?" Jyn quips. "I rebel." Damn right, she does, and she accepts her mission: A major weapons test is imminent, and they need to know what it is and destroy it. This story is set just before the events of Episode IV, "A New Hope," aka the first movie in the series, so we the audience have more information than the characters and know the mission is to steal the plans for the Death Star, which will be destroyed ... eventually.
The trailer is punctuated by a literally alarming sound (which will be in your head all day), and we hear the voice of Forest Whitaker's character ask, "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?" Intriguing. There's a rumor that James Earl Jones will return for Darth Vader in this, but we'll have to wait and see. In early January 2016, "Rogue One" topped Fandango's poll of the most anticipated movies of the year, beating "Finding Dory," "Batman v Superman," "Jason Bourne," and "Captain America: Civil War." Here's the trailer: Lookin' good so far? "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be released in theaters on December 16th, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Melissa McCarthy Came Up With Her 'Boss' Character 15 Years Ago Posted: Melissa McCarthy has been doing characters for years and years -- since the beginning -- but her role in "The Boss" might be her most over-the-top yet. We sat down with Melissa to find out how she came up with the sure-to-be iconic Michelle Darnell. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
