The Geek Beat: 'They Live,' 'The Princess Bride,' and Other Great Civil Wars Gone By Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:00 PM PDT If you're the sort of person who's more entertained by heroes brawling with each other instead of the bad guys (and there's nothing wrong with that), it is a very good time to be a movie fan. We're currently at the halfway point between the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War – two films whose central theme is a conflict between otherwise heroic characters. While Batman v Superman has left audiences and critics as divided as the film's titular protagonists, it remains to be seen how Civil War will be received by those looking forward to a knock-down, drag-out skirmish between Marvel's superheroes. Still, while it feels like we're currently reaching peak hero-fight levels these days, the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 06:00 PM PDT Remakes continue to lose their negative reputation, as two highly anticipated examples coming out in the next year just released some great-looking first impressions. See these hot new images from The Magnificent Seven and Power Rangers below. The Magnificent Seven Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke have been reunited thanks to their Training Day director, Antoine Fuqua, for a remake of the 1960 Western The Magnificent Seven, which itself was a reinvention of the 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai. Rounding out their septet below, via USA Today, are co-stars Chris Pratt, Byung-han Lee, Vincent D'Onofrio, Martin Sensmeir and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. No sign yet of the villain, played by Peter Sarsgaard, but we've got plenty of time. The movie opens on September... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: Here's the New Action-Packed Trailer for the New 'Warcraft' Movie Posted: 19 Apr 2016 04:58 PM PDT "We fight together or we die together!" The fantastical world of Warcraft has already enjoyed great success with video games, books, and all sorts of nerdy entertainment -- but now it's ready for the big screen. And this new look at the film -- due in theaters on June 10 -- is definitely rockin' a 300-meets-Lord of the Rings vibe, as two very different groups must find a way to work together to defeat a common enemy. Check it out. Orcs, humans, beasts, kingdoms... dark, gritty dialogue that slowly builds to a visual feast for the eyes. Oh, we like! The Hobbit movies are done -- and fans in general are pretty much done with stories set in Middle-earth -- and so there's room for Warcraft to slip in here and serve up something pretty... TV Buzz: Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell to Team on 'Barbary Coast'; Naomi Watts to Star in 'Gypsy' Posted: 19 Apr 2016 03:00 PM PDT So many established movie stars have flocked to the small screen in recent years that it's become quite a challenge just to keep up with them all. Two recent announcements caught our eye, however, because of the talent involved. First, Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson will be teaming for The Barbary Coast, according to Variety. Gibson will cowrite and direct the planned series and will also have a recurring role; Russell and Hudson will star. It will be a family affair, since Hudson was raised by her mother, Goldie Hawn, and her mother's longtime partner Russell. Hudson's half-brother Wyatt Russell and her brother Oliver Hudson are among the show's producers. The show will be set during the California gold rush era, which lasted from 1848 to 1855... Watch Jared Leto Compare Playing the Joker to Having Sex Posted: 19 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT One of the biggest selling points when it comes to this summer's Suicide Squad is Jared Leto's performance as the Joker. We've already heard all kinds of wacky stories in terms of just how meta Leto got for the role. From bringing weird things to set to handing out strange gifts to the rest of the cast to never revealing anything but the character to everyone involved in making the movie, we can only imagine the stories will grow and become more elaborate as its August 5 release date approaches. When we had a chance to chat briefly with Leto at CinemaCon this past week, he was himself, thankfully (though interviewing Leto as the Joker would've been tremendous). We first asked him how he prepared for the role, to which Leto shot back some strange rambling response... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
