The Best Movie Trailers of the Week Posted: 06 Jun 2014 06:00 PM PDT Welcome back to Best Movie Trailers of the Week, a column where we handpick the best new movie trailers that have arrived online over the past week. Hercules The new domestic trailer for Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules is a little muddled and underwhelming, but that’s certainly not the case with the international edition. Whereas the domestic one takes a darker approach, using the death of Hercules’ family as the driving force and trying to up the momentum using Queens of the Stone Age’s “No One Knows,” the international trailer has far more success highlighting the film’s humor and using an orchestral beat to help set the pace and tone. The Green Inferno The serenity at the start of this new trailer for The Green Inferno is... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
William Friedkin Tells Us 'Killer Joe' and 'To Live and Die in L.A.' TV Shows Are in the Works Posted: 06 Jun 2014 05:28 PM PDT Earlier today Movies.com had the great privilege of sitting down with William Friedkin and picking his brain for an hour straight. Suffice to say, the director of The Exorcist, The French Connection and many others gave us a ton to think about. We'll be posting more of our interview with him next week, but today we wanted to share one particular part of the conversation that stood out: William Friedkin is kind of obsessed with TV. But Friedkin doesn't just think TV shows like Fargo and House of Cards are regularly beating the big screen for his attention as an audience member, but also for him as a director. Not only do two of his movies (To Live and Die in L.A. and Killer Joe) currently have TV adaptations in development, but his interest in directing theatrical movies... See 'Edge of Tomorrow' Reviewed in Comic Strip Form Posted: 06 Jun 2014 04:00 PM PDT It wouldn't be summer movie season without Tom Cruise! Edge of Tomorrow will get the easy comparisons to Groundhog Day but it's also exactly the kind of punchy sci-fi adventure that goes best with salty popcorn and a willing audience. Will Edge of Tomorrow stand the test of time? We think so. Here's When You Should Never Pick Up a Video Camera, According to the Movies Posted: 06 Jun 2014 02:00 PM PDT Sometimes you just can’t help making your way into the genre spotlight when a more traditional shooting technique applies, but for those making a movie within a movie, you’re throwing yourself into POV/found-footage territory and are essentially enabling all the horrors that come with it. These are some exampes of times when you really shouldn't be picking up the movie camera. WARNING: This list contains plot spoilers! The Sacrament Everything is too good to be true. In Ti West’s latest, Patrick (Kentucker Audley) travels out to Eden Parish to try to bring his sister (Amy Seimetz) home from a suspect sober-living community while his buddies Sam and Jake (A.J. Bowen and Joe Swanberg) come along for the ride to document the experience for their... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
See What Anna from 'Frozen' Might Look Like in Real Life Posted: 06 Jun 2014 01:00 PM PDT If you've seen one set of crazy anime makeup eyes, you've seen them all — but there's something extra freaky about this anime Frozen cosplay from Twitter user Urihcim. She wanted to transform Disney's musical fantasy blockbuster into a Japanese animation character and so far photos of her attempts have over 13,000 retweets. After America, the tale about a fearless princess on an epic journey (and her mountain man, reindeer and snowman sidekicks) was the most popular worldwide in Japan, where it grossed $205.9 million, earning the top spot at the country's box office for 12 consecutive weekends. Anna and Elsa have been a popular idol for girls big and small everywhere, so naturally she should be the subject of an anime makeover. Will those... Mark Hamill Talks 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Preparation and Fan Expectations Posted: 06 Jun 2014 12:00 PM PDT Mark Hamill is hard at work getting ready to don his lightsaber and return to Jedi duty in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII, but that doesn’t mean he can’t stop and chat with a reporter or two along the way. Hamill recently spoke with The Orlando Sentinel, revealing some choice quotes (and one cool photo) about the upcoming film and the beloved series in general. The actor says that returning to the role that made him famous was essentially a no-brainer, because he was sure if he didn’t, the hard-core fans wouldn’t have been happy: “Look, I’m aware that a lot of people don’t care one way or another, but for the UPFs – the ultra-passionate fans – they would come after me like the angry townspeople with torches in the... These Incredible Wax Sculptures of Your Favorite Movie Characters Will Freak You Out Posted: 06 Jun 2014 11:00 AM PDT There's something so incredibly impressive about an artist who can capture the likeness of something with hyperrealistic detail, which is why we never tire of seeing artworks featuring lifelike renditions of our favorite Hollywood stars. Artist Bobby Causey does just that. His wax sculptures are to die for. From their human gazes, to the makeup, to the mind-blowing detail, Causey has re-created life-size copies of actors like Phantasm's Angus Scrimm, Hellboy's Ron Perlman and The Dark Knight's Heath Ledger. Design Taxi introduced us to the artist. Causey's website is a treasure trove of badass work we could get lost in for hours. If we saw these wax figures in the real world, we could easily mistake them for the real thing. Causey says he... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
See Awesome Fan Posters for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' Plus: Why to See It in IMAX 3D Posted: 06 Jun 2014 10:18 AM PDT We’re just under two months away from seeing if James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be Marvel’s latest blockbuster, but it’s never too soon to start getting hyped. This week has seen not only the arrival of some awesome fan art for the film, but a missive from Gunn himself that tells you why you should see his latest in IMAX 3D if you can. The filmmaker took to Facebook to reveal why the IMAX version of the film will be the one to catch, and it’s all about aspect ratios. In recent years, we’ve seen several films play around with shifting ratios during their stories – often as an aesthetic choice, but also to take advantage of footage shot specifically for IMAX. Guardians will be the latest to employ the technique. Gunn explains... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
