11 Times Our Favorite Former TV Co-Stars Reunited For New Shows (PHOTOS)

Posted:

It's always a delight when you get to see your beloved former TV costars back together on screen again. It might have been years since they've done a scene together and the project could be completely different than the original, yet it always bring a sense of comfort to know the forever-synonymous actors are still connected in some way.

ABC Family is capitalizing on the TV reunion concept with their new comedy, "Mystery Girls," which stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth as actresses-turned-detectives. These ladies will always be linked to their roles as Donna and Kelly on the teen soap hit "Beverly Hills: 90210" (hmm, where's Brenda?), so it's no surprise that they're teaming up so a new generation and nostalgic '90s fans can tune in and enjoy their double dose of star power.

It's become somewhat of a trend for TV costars from the hits of yesteryear to reconnect and appear in new small screen efforts together. It's usually one helping the other out to promote their project, but it doesn't make it any less exciting. The "Friends" cast is especially good at reuniting for each other's entertainment endeavors, but that's what "Friends" famous ex-colleagues are for, right?

Let's get sentimental, guys. Check out 11 pairs of beloved TV co-stars who reunited for other shows:

First Look: Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (PHOTO)

mad max reboot ew cover"Mad Max" is ready to ride again.

The first images are out for "Mad Max: Fury Road," the long-awaited quasi-reboot of the '80s dystopian series written and directed by George Miller. Entertainment Weekly put stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron -- looking grim and grimy -- on their cover.

Hardy takes over for Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky, while the Oscar-winning actress plays one-armed, "bad-ass commander" named Imperator Furiosa.

Judging from these first images, Miller's post-apocalyptic world is even darker and grittier than before. Imperator Furiosa is leading survivors fleeing a band of marauding road thugs when Max falls in with them. The movie is reportedly one long, tense, action-packed chase scene.

Check out the cover below, and more photos at EW.com. "Mad Max: Fury Road" opens May 15, 2015.

Why They're Remaking 'Stargate' Instead of Making Sequels

Posted:

stargate remakeWhen director Roland Emmerich and writer/producer Dean Devlin announced last month that they were remaking their 1994 hit movie "Stargate," well ... we were a little baffled.

Why would the duo reboot their own movie, rather than make sequels? Especially since the film spawned a number of popular television series ("Stargate SG-1," "Stargate Atlantis," and "Stargate Universe")? And also in light of the fact that they are making actual sequels to their other mega-hit movie, "Independence Day"?

Now, we have the answer. As Devlin told the Portland Business Journal, he and Emmerich just wanted to start over. And they didn't want to have to deal with events from the TV series.

"We did the original 'Stargate' as an independent movie. It was a surprise success," he said.

"When the film came out, it was a hit and spawned TV shows. Of all the projects I've ever done, 'Stargate' is the only one from the beginning intended to be a trilogy. We always wanted to do parts two and three, but the thinking was they didn't want to do anything other than the TV series."

It's been 20 years since the original "Stargate," Devlin noted, and he and Emmerich didn't feel they could do part two of their original story.

(Apparently, it's easier to do a sequel for "Independence Day," but that property wasn't sullied by television.)

"We have to start over from the beginning," he said. "Let's reboot the series, put in all the things we couldn't the first time, and set it up properly."

We're going to guess that stars Kurt Russell and James Spader won't be reprising their roles.

Sarah Jessica Parker Returning to Television In New Series

Posted:

FIJI Water At amfAR's Inspiration Gala
The last time Sarah Jessica Parker starred in a television series, she wore Manolos and wrote for a newspaper.

When she returns to the small screen, she may still be wearing Manolos and writing for a newspaper. The subject matter, however, will be very different.

Parker is attached to play one of the two leads in a limited-series adaptation of the nonfiction book, "Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love." The authors, journalists Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker, delved into their investigation uncovering police corruption in Philadelphia. The result was a 10-month-long series published in the Philadelphia Daily News, which won a Pulitzer Prize. Once the other lead actress is set, the producers (who happened to be behind "True Detective") will shop the show to networks.

We didn't think SJP would ever come back to TV, but "Busted" will be a limited-run series, which is all the rage these days with big-name movie stars. Hey, if Matthew McConaughey will do it, everyone might just follow suit.

Emmy Nominations 2014 Wish List: Lead Actor/Actress in a Miniseries or Movie

Posted:

The 2014 Emmy nominations will be revealed July 10 and in the days leading up to that big announcement we'll be sharing our dream picks for nods in the big categories. You can find our picks for the reality categories here and Variety Series here. Today's focus: Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie.

The miniseries / movie acting race is an interesting one because some of the actors and actresses submitted on the ballot hail from critically acclaimed shows like "Fargo" and "American Horror Story: Coven," as opposed to more conventional movies and miniseries.

Last year, Michael Douglas took home a statue for his turn as Liberace in "Behind the Candelabra" and Laura Linney won for "The Big C: Hereafter." Time will tell which actors and actresses make the competitive cut in this category this year.

Here are our dream 2014 Emmy nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:

'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Teaser: Things Are Changing (VIDEO)

Posted:

The world doesn't stop turning, even at "Downton Abbey."

The venerable estate may still keep to many of the old ways, but as ever-correct butler Carson (Jim Carter) intones in this 20-second teaser for Season 5, "I feel a shaking of the ground I stand on."

Change has already come to the Abbey, and began moving at a faster pace last season as Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and brother-in-law Tom Branson (Allen Leech) began a mission to modernize the estate's farming practices.

But as Carson says, even more change is coming, so what might we expect in the next season of "Downton Abbey"? There are new characters, of course, including the Dowager Countess' new maid (Sue Johnston), art historian Simon Bricker (Richard E. Grant), and Lady Anstruther (Anna Chancellor), who was Jimmy's former employer.

There will be new romances, or at least, continuation of previous ones. Lady Mary will likely choose betwen her two suitors, Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake. Meanwhile, we wouldn't be surprised to see Tom's relationship with schoolteacher Sarah Bunting.

"Downton Abbey" season 5 debuts in the U.K. this fall. The PBS premiere date in the U.S. is still undecided.

'Game of Thrones' Star Michelle Fairley Addresses Lady Stoneheart Story

Posted:

The Television Academy Of Arts And Sciences' Presents An Evening With
Sorry, "Game of Thrones" book fans -- it seems Lady Stoneheart won't be making an appearance on the HBO series.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS!

That comes straight from the lips of Michelle Fairley, who would've played Lady Stoneheart. "Yeah, the character's dead. She's dead," Fairley told Entertainment Weekly.

As readers of George R. R. Martin's books know, Lady Stoneheart is actually Catelyn Stark reanimated a few days after the Red Wedding by Lord Beric Dondarrion.

Anticipation over the shocking turn of events reached a fever pitch when "Game of Thrones" star Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, posted a teasing photo on Instagram of a heart made of stones. This seemed to be a sly spoiler, just like another picture in which she pretended to gouge out the eyes of actor Pedro Pascal. His character, Oberyn Martell, ended up dying in just that way.

But then season 4 ended with nary a sighting of Lady Stoneheart, and Headey quasi-confessed to sometimes drunk posting on social media.

Does that mean the Lady Stoneheart storyline cut from the TV series? Seems that way.

"You respect the writers' decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can't stick to the books 100 percent. It's impossible - they only have 10 hours per season," Fairley said. "They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show."

So, no more Catelyn Stark and no more Fairley ... our (stone) hearts are broken!

Is Nathan Fillion Voicing Cosmo the Dog in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'?

Posted:

65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsThe news that Nathan Fillion is making a small cameo in "Guardians of the Galaxy" made a lot of people (including us) very happy. But the question of which role he's playing remained unanswered.

Now, Schmoes Know reports that a source tells them Fillion will be voicing Cosmo, a psychic dog who is friends with Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper).

Cosmo is a telepathic Russian canine who is the security chief for the Knowhere space station. In the Marvel comics, he's also a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

"Fillion is the perfect man for the job," the site raves. "Not only will the fans perk to attention when they hear Fillion's voice coming out of a psychic dog, but fans of the comic series will smile ear to ear knowing that everything they love of the comic series is being set up (hopefully) for future entries into this universe."

The rumor is totally unconfirmed, though, and director James Gunn threw some cold water on it today when he tweeted: Still, Fillion seems like a perfect fit for Cosmo (and being a voice role, wouldn't conflict much with his schedule for "Castle"). Whatever role he does end up playing, we're excited that the "Firefly" star is shooting into space once again.

'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Teaser: President Snow Wants a United Panem

Posted:

mockingjay teaser videoThe latest promotional teaser for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" may look all white, but the tone is very, very dark.

The video is shot in the style of an ad for Capitol TV, and starts with President Snow (Donald Sutherland) praising Panem's "elegant system, conceived to nourish and protect." As words like "unity" and "prosperity" flash on the screen, Snow's voice takes on a hard edge against those who would rebel.

"If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed," he warns, and the camera begins to pan out to reveal Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) standing next to him. In a spine-tingling moment, Peeta, who was captured by the Capitol at the end of "Catching Fire," slowly turns his head to face the camera. This is not the Peeta we or Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) know and love.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" opens in theaters Nov. 21.

'Fury' Trailer: The Killing's Not Done for Brad Pitt

Posted:

the fury trailer brad pittWar is brutal, it's violent, and it always end in a lot of bloodshed. That's the lesson imparted to a new recruit by Brad Pitt in the trailer for "Fury," a World War II drama directed by David Ayer.

Pitt plays the leader of a five-man tank crew, which he's vowed to keep alive. Logan Lerman joins the battle-weary group as a rookie soldier in the last days of the war. They're sent on one more deadly mission, outnumbered and outgunned.

"It will end soon, but before it does, a lot more people gotta die," Pitt barks.

This isn't the first time Pitt has played a WWII soldier, but "Inglorious Bastards" was a very different animal. "Fury" looks like a more standard war movie - gritty, realistic, and dark.

"Fury" also stars Shia Shia LaBeouf, Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal, and Jason Isaac, and opens in theaters Nov. 14.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum's Awkward Naked Massage and Roseanne Barr's Child Stalking Lead the Late Night Roundup (VIDEO)

Posted:

Here's a look at some of the late-night chatter you may have missed Tuesday night.

Chelsea Handler had an intimate talk with "Witches of East End" star Jenna Dewan-Tatum, the gorgeous wife of the former Sexiest Man Alive, Channing Tatum. Jenna talked about a super-awkward spa session she had in Vancouver, involving a butt-naked scrub-down. It was a rough scrub, Jenna said, and in full lighting. It was also intimidating because there were beautiful women scrubbing her. Oh, and apparently "Chan" went right after her, for his own butt-naked scrub-down. It sounds like a porno waiting to happen, but apparently it wasn't hot at all. Chan was mortified. And Jenna noted how the scrubber lady knew who he was, so it wasn't even an anonymous awkward butt-naked scrub. And here we thought life was so easy for The Beautiful People!

Jimmy Kimmel sat down with Roseanne Barr - who rocked a hot white pantsuit look Hillary Clinton would envy - and she talked about stalking her son wherever he goes, including when he goes away to school. He doesn't love this. She also listed her favorite TV shows. (Hint: She only likes the "all-murder, all-the-time" channel and "The Hitler Channel and such.") Jimmy also talked to Eric Dane, who talked about catching a massive fish at age 12, and JKL featured his Cousin Sal doing a home delivery prank. Skip the fish story and just watch the oddly hilarious delivery video. It's long, but it gets funnier as it goes.

David Letterman talked to Melissa McCarthy about entering her fifth year on "Mike & Molly" while also shooting movies like her new one, "Tammy." She also has two young kids, and she explained why they just don't want to be taken around the country, learning about places like Wyoming. Since he's on CBS, Dave also got a plug in for the upcoming premiere of "Under the Dome" Season 2, via star Rachelle Lefevre. She read "Top Ten Questions People Ask Me About The Dome." Some of the Qs are practical, some semi-funny, some just not that great. Phish also performed "The Line" from their new album.
