'Game of Thrones' Is Headed to Dorne in Season 5

Posted:

We've finally caught our breath after Sunday night's "Game of Thrones" season finale, which was bananas in all the right ways. Unless you ask fans of the books, who all have quite a lot to say about how and why the changes the showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss made were ill advised, but that's beside the point because we're already thinking about next season! Sure, it's a year away, but that doesn't mean it's too soon to start guessing. It might be muggy out now, but winter is always coming.

We already have a few meaty bits to gnaw on thanks to the fan site Winter is Coming. As per the leaked character list, Benioff and Weiss have confirmed to EW that some of the action in the next season will take place in Dorne, home of the late, great Red Viper. It's also where Myrcella Baratheon, daughter of Cersei and Robert Baratheon (wink wink) as part of an alliance with the House Martell. Although our time spent with Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) and Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) was all too brief, they did give us a taste of the general attitude and vibe of the Dornish folks. If "Game of Thrones" wasn't quite racy enough for you, well, we really can't wait to see what sorts of shenanigans everyone gets up to in Dorne. There will be blood... and probably some boobs and butts, too.

HBO is currently scouting Spain for filming locations, so we'll be keeping one eye on Andalucia for more details.

Summer TV 2014: New Shows We Can't Wait To Watch (VIDEO)

Posted:

The official start to summer is upon us, but in the land of TV the season kicked off when many of our favorite shows aired their finales. We already had to part with some of our most beloved series, and with last week marking the end of "Game of Thrones," it feels like there's quite the void to be filled.

Fortunately the days to come are still filled with fresh programming to get hooked on. What makes that even more great is that some of the new shows are especially exciting. And their premieres are just around the corner. Some very successful TV shows made their debuts in the summer, and it looks like 2014 might just introduce us to a few new favorites.

If you're not sure what to watch over the new few months, here's your guide (trailers included!) to the most anticipated new shows of the summer season:

'Rising Star' (ABC, June 22)
This singing competition has a twist: You're the judge. The audience weighs in in real time and makes or breaks the contestants' fates during their live performances. Kesha, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley serve as judges.

'Girl Meets World' (Disney Channel, June 27)
Disney brings us this belated spinoff of the popular '90s TGIF show, "Boy Meets World." Original stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fisher return as mom and dad. Nostalgia abounds.

'The Leftovers' (HBO, June 29)
Created by Damon Lindelof ("Lost") and author Tom Perlotta, this series follows the aftermath of a mysterious "rapture" and explores the lives of those left behind.

'Extant'
(CBS, July 9)
Halle Berry plays an astronaut who returns home from a 13-month solo mission. But... she's not alone.

'The Strain' (FX, July 13)
Guillermo del Toro serves up a vampire thriller about a super scary looking New York City viral outbreak.

'Married'
(FX, July 17)
Judy Greer stars in this relationship comedy about a couple dealing with the ups and downs of married life.

'The Quest' (ABC, July 31)
Find out what happens when fantasy and reality collide! This competition show pits 12 contestants together in a fantasy world under siege by an evil warlock, where they engage in "epic challenges" that involve mythical creatures and "agents of darkness."

'Bachelor in Paradise' (ABC, August 4)
Drama obviously ensues when former 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette' contestants are isolated on a tropical island. Will they finally find love?

'The Knick' (Cinemax, August 8)
Cinemax's creepy look at the groundbreaking medical practices of New York's The Knickerbocker hospital back in 1900. Clive Owen stars and Steven Soderbergh directs.

'Outlander' (Starz, August 9)
Based on the popular novels by Diana Gabaldon, "Outlander" follows the romance and adventures of a woman who falls back in time to 18th Century Scotland.

'Legends' (TNT, August 13)
An undercover FBI agent has the ability to completely transform himself for each of his cases.

Meryl Streep To Play Opera Legend Maria Callas In HBO Film

Posted:

42nd AFI Life Achievement Award Honoring Jane Fonda - Show
Meryl Streep is no slouch when it comes to transformative performances, but the latest legend she's set to play will make Anna Wintour look like a pushover. Streep has signed on to star as Maria Callas in an HBO adaptation of "Master Class," an award-winning Broadway play by Terrence McNally that takes place in 1971 at Julliard. In the story, the unforgettable diva is teaching a class while contemplating her astonishing career and dramatic life, which includes a torrid affair with Aristotle Onassis that ends when he leaves her for none other than Jackie O.

"Master Class" will reunite Streep with Mike Nichols, who worked with her on "Angels in America," "Postcards From the Edge," "Heartburn," and "Silkwood." The movie will start filming in January after Streep finishes an entirely different sort of musical performance in Jonathan Demme's "Ricky and the Flash." Streep, who stars as an aging rocker, has even been getting some guitar-picking tips from Neil Young for the role. No word yet on whether or not she'll be attempting Callas' famous bel canto.

Callas, who starred in Pier Paolo Pasolini's "Medea" in 1969, is the subject of a number of projects in the works. Faye Dunaway, who starred as Callas in "Master Class" in 1997, directed and stars in a biopic about the singer that has been in limbo for years. In 2013, she told The Independent "about three quarters of the film has been shot, we are going to film the rest of it soon." Meanwhile, Niki Caro ("Whale Rider") announced at Cannes that she will begin production on a biopic about Callas this fall. Meanwhile, the opera singer did take a stab at acting onscreen herself; she starred as Medea in Pier Paolo Pasolini's take on the Euripides play.

Quench Your 'True Blood' Thirst With This Season 7 Sneak Peek (VIDEO)

Posted:

"True Blood" fans are really working themselves (fine, ourselves) into a lather in anticipation of Sunday night's season premiere, especially since it heralds the last season of this delightfully batty bloodfest.

Last night the "True Blood" stars turned out in style for a red carpet premiere of the first episode, the likes of which rivaled any summer blockbuster spectacle. The Tweets and Instagram pics have been pouring in, as well as tons of red carpet coverage. One of the weirder tidbits that came in from the front lines was that composer Nathan Barr pitched a "True Blood" musical to HBO and mastermind Alan Ball. Apparently, even Stephen Moyer joined in the fun; according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Brit "helped Barr put together some samples of the 'True Blood' musical presented to HBO and Ball." Of course, condensing an entire series of books and/or seven seasons of a TV show that wanders into seriously weird territory will prove challenging, if it ever comes to that. Never say never, but right now it sounds like a pipe dream.

For those of us stuck at home, there was a retrospective of the show over the weekend, as well as True To The End, a website (and hashtag) for everyone who's been rewatching the series and reminiscing about all the good times to be had with the supes and humans lurking around Bon Temps. In what's surely a coincidence, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin have both joined Twitter and Instagram recently, flooding their timelines with adorable photos and smooshy messages to each other.

HBO and the crew behind "True Blood" tapped into their fan base via social media like a phlebotomist finding a nice juicy vein, way before we were coming to blows over #GameofThrones spoilers or reading the live Tweets of everyone involved in "Scandal." You can expect to be inundated with a flood of "True Blood" from every direction for the next few months. Plus, let's not forget Joe Manganiello's directorial debut, "La Bare," about the Dallas male strip club of the same name. True to the end, indeed.

While you're biding your time, here's a clip to sate your thirst. It shows Bill and Sooookeh sharing a bloody moment in a car, en route to do some major butt-kicking thing that probably involves lots of goofy practical effects. And we thought Harvey Keitel's performance in "The Piano" was naughty! Sheesh.

Here's Your First Glimpse of Jamie Dornan in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' (PHOTO)

Posted:

jamie dornan fifty shades of greyGird your loins and get ready for your first real look at Christian Grey. Yeah, you've seen him from the back, but now you can see him from the front. Okay, calm down, it's from the front, not frontal. Sheesh. Anyway, Jamie Dornan is dressed in leather and behind the wheel of a fancy car, perhaps his Audi R8 Spyder, looking like it's time for some serious business. Funny business, probably, especially since it's Christian Grey's birthday. That's right, June 18 is this fictional character's day of birth, which makes him a Gemini. Surely someone out there has already done his birth chart, no? If not, well, you're welcome for that free money-making idea.

In any case, Grey looks ready to party. Did anyone get him a Cookie Puss? Everyone loves a Cookie Puss.

"50 Shades of Grey" opens in 242 days, in case you're keeping track.

'Magic in the Moonlight' Poster: Emma Stone & Colin Firth in the Roaring '20s (EXCLUSIVE)

Posted:

magic in the moonlight posterLike many of his recent films, Woody Allen's latest flick, "Magic in the Moonlight," is filled with familiar faces, and two of them are front and center on the movie's new poster.

The poster (below), premiering today exclusively on Moviefone, features stars Emma Stone and Colin Firth decked out in 1920s period garb, a nod to the film's Jazz Age setting. In "Moonlight," Firth plays a Brit known for his work debunking fake spiritualists, who travels to the south of France to unmask another assumed fraud, played by Emma Stone.

Unfortunately for Firth, he ends up falling for Stone instead, an inner struggle that seems to be playing out on the poster. Stone appears kooky, with a far off look in her eyes; Firth looks skeptical, yet can't keep his gaze off of her.

The period romantic comedy, written and directed by Allen, also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver, Eileen Atkins, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Erica Leerhsen, Catherine McCormack, Paul Ritter, and Jeremy Shamos.

"Magic in the Moonlight" is due in theaters on July 25.

The 50 Best Movie Musicals Ever Made

Posted:

Best Movie Musicals of All Time
Movies ask us to suspend disbelief and accept fantasy, never more so than when characters suddenly break into song. What we've learned to expect on Broadway or at the opera house still feels weird in the supposedly more realistic medium of film.

Still, some movies pull it off better than others. It helps if, like in Clint Eastwood's adaptation of Broadway's "Jersey Boys" (opening June 20), the characters are showbiz professionals who have good reason to sing. But even if the characters aren't performers, their songs can express their innermost longings in a way that other elements of visual storytelling cannot.

The theme of the great musicals, whether from Broadway, Hollywood, or locations far flung, is the search for identity. It's something we can all relate to and, if the music is transporting enough, something in which we can happily lose ourselves for a couple hours.

Here, then, are 50 of the greatest films in which only music can fill those empty spaces in our hearts.

Kevin Hart's Forced Roller Coaster Ride and Olivia Wilde's Jiggly Nude Scene Lead the Late Night Roundup (VIDEOS)

Posted:

Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon roller coaster ride

Kevin Hart really, really hates roller coasters, so of course Jimmy Fallon shamed him into riding one in the name of "manning up" while he's out promoting "Think Like a Man Too." Fallon nearly ate a bug, but it's poor Hart we feel for as he was sweating beforehand, cursing and screaming throughout and literally crying at having to relive the ride. There, there, Kevin. It's all over!

Still, the ordeal was nowhere near as bad as Hart's worst summer job, since, he says, he almost died on his second day of being a lifeguard.

Over on "Late Show With David Letterman," the nearly retired host perked up as Olivia Wilde discussed her nude running-down-the-stairs scene in "Third Person." When she pretended to reenact it, he smiled almost as widely as he did when Drew Barrymore flashed him all those years ago.

Robert Pattinson stopped by "Late Night With Seth Meyers" to plug his new movie "The Rover," where he discussed his early hooker-and-magician-filled days in Hollywood and his rap alter ego, Big Tub.

Chelsea Handler, who's unclear on the concept of reality TV, quizzed the cast of "Little Women: LA" about why they're always fighting. She says she gets along with all her female friends, most of the time. "They wouldn't be my friends if they wouldn't listen to what I f***ing said," she explained.
