'Iron Man 3' Director Shane Black to Helm 'Predator' Reboot Posted: Shane Black infused new energy into the "Iron Man" series thanks to his bold directing and story choices in "Iron Man 3." Now, he's set to do the same for another familiar franchise: "Predator." The Hollywood Reporter writes that Black is attached to direct a reboot of the '80s action series for 20th Century Fox, and will also oversee writing on the project. Black will pen a story treatment, then pass off scriptwriting duties to his "Monster Squad" co-writer Fred Dekker. Original producer John Davis is also on board to produce the remake. Black rose through the Hollywood ranks right around the time the first "Predator" was made in 1987, thanks to his successful "Monster Squad" and "Lethal Weapon" scripts. THR reports that the director even had a small role in the original "Predator" -- which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse Ventura -- that was given to him as a bribe to coax him to rewrite the script. Black turned producers down. Now, it seems they've made him an offer he can't refuse, and no doubt having complete control over the script and director's chair is a large part of it. THR's report gave no indication as to when a rebooted "Predator" might make its debut, but noted that Black is quite busy right now, so the project is probably a ways off. Stay tuned for more details as they become available. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Fox's 'Gotham' May Feature Mr. Freeze Posted: Fox's "Gotham" already has a huge cast of characters, focusing on the villains who will one day antagonize Batman, but according to the director of the show's pilot, there's at least one more bad guy in store. Director Danny Cannon spoke with HitFix about "Gotham"'s sprawling ensemble, noting that while a young Bruce Wayne will feature prominently in the series, the show isn't really about Batman, but the corruption plaguing his hometown. Iconic Batman characters like the Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy are already set to get their spotlight on the small screen, but according to Cannon, there's one villain in particular he'd like to explore further. "I have a big pitch with [series creator] Bruno [Heller] about the Mr. Freeze character, whose origins are uncertain," Cannon told HitFix. "If I can win [DC comics exec] Geoff Johns over and if I can win Bruno over, then I look forward to the moment where that character can be realized." That's good news for fans of the Mr. Freeze depicted in the comics, who almost literally became a cartoon on the big screen in 1997's "Batman and Robin" thanks to horrible, campy one-liners delivered by Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Gotham" seems like a much more serious affair, so we're eager to see what Cannon and co. have up their sleeves for the character this time around. "Gotham" is set to debut sometime this fall on Fox. 'Magic Mike XXL' May Be Matthew McConaughey-Free Posted: It seemed inevitable, but now one of the movie's stars has all but confirmed it: Matthew McConaughey most likely won't be back for "Magic Mike XXL." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Queen Elizabeth Visits 'Game of Thrones' Set, Doesn't Sit on Iron Throne Posted: "Game of Thrones" has built an entire series around people fighting over control of the Iron Throne, but apparently, real-life royalty doesn't want any part of it. That's the word from the "Thrones" set in Belfast, Northern Ireland Tuesday, where England's Queen Elizabeth II visited cast and crew, and toured the throne room containing the iconic perch. While the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, greeted actors including Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), she reportedly declined an opportunity to take a seat on the throne. Despite spurning the sword-encrusted seat, QEII spent quite a bit of time chatting with costume and set designers, looking over clothing and props used on the HBO series, and talking to actors. And in video from the visit, we swear we can see the queen give the throne a wistful glance (or was it the side-eye?) -- though maybe that's just wishful thinking. We would have loved to have seen the juxtaposition of the canary-clad monarch sitting against the decidedly not-sunny Iron Throne, though we suppose that's what Photoshop is for. Today in 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Rumors: Harrison Ford's Big Delay, Tom Cruise's Cameo Posted: It wouldn't be a weekday without some wild "Star Wars: Episode VII" rumors, and there are two big ones currently floating around the blogosphere. The first concerns Harrison Ford's broken leg -- suffered while shooting a scene involving the Millennium Falcon -- and estimated eight-week absence from filming. While the initial word from filmmakers was that production would and could continue without Ford, some "Star Wars" insiders are reporting differently. Jedi News writes that they've heard rumblings that director J.J. Abrams and co. are scrambling to come up with a new game plan for "Episode VII" in light of Ford's absence. His character, Han Solo, is one of the movie's main protagonists, and not much can be filmed around him before significant delays set in. That's leading to some speculation that "the film could be pushed back by a substantial amount of time," according to Jedi News. So how likely is that scenario? In a nutshell: doubtful. Here's why: "Episode VII" already faced a major hurdle in getting Disney to greenlight a December 2105 release, after Lucasfilm's plea for a push to 2016 instead was summarily denied. Even factoring in Ford's injury, it seems extremely unrealistic that Disney would budge again after acquiescing to a shift from May 2015 to December 2015. Then, of course, there's the outright denial of such a move from Lucasfilm itself, which issued a statement to TheForce.net in response to the growing clamor of rumors. "There is no change in the release date," the company told the site. So it seems that that rumor can be put to bed for now. But, perhaps sensing a lack of wild "Star Wars" speculation, a new bit of gossip has popped up in its place, and it concerns frequent Abrams collaborator Tom Cruise. UK tabloid The Sun is reporting that Cruise recently met with Abrams in London and is "in talks" for a role in "Episode VII." The tab notes that the pair are already working together on "Mission: Impossible 5," so a quick "Star Wars" cameo wouldn't be out of the question. We're disinclined to believe this rumor, too, most likely because Cruise is simply too big of a star for "Episode VII." He'd pull too much focus from the rest of the cast, which Abrams purposefully populated with relatively unknown actors (aside from returning stars like Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, and recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o). It would be a safe bet that their London meeting was simply a business get-together to discuss "M:I 5." That's all she wrote for the rumor mill today, folks, but stay tuned -- this thing has a tendency to keep churning. "Star Wars: Episode VII" is due in theaters on December 18, 2015. Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes to 'Hail, Caesar!' for Coen Brothers Posted: Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, and Ralph Fiennes are traveling back to the golden age of Hollywood. The trio of stars is joining the cast of Joel and Ethan Coen's "Hail, Caesar!," according to The Hollywood Reporter. They'll appear alongside George Clooney and Josh Brolin in the period comedy about a studio fixer in 1950s Hollywood. Tatum will play a dashing Gene Kelly-esque movie star, with Fiennes as a studio director. Swinton will embody an ambitious Hollywood gossip columnist. This is Tatum and Fiennes's first movie with the filmmaking brothers, while Swinton reteams with them after "Burn After Reading." This is also a reunion with Swinton's "Michael Clayton" costar Clooney. The Coens seem to be aiming for a more comedic film than their last, the moody folk music tale "Inside Llewyn Davis," and we hope this ends up being somewhere along the lines of the sharp and cynical "Barton Fink." 'Dr. Cabbie' Trailer: Indian Doctor's Harsh Surprise When He Gets to Canada (VIDEO) Posted:
It's a story we've all heard before: a highly educated immigrant who can't get a job in Canada or the United States because their credentials don't transfer over. Now there's a new (and hilarious) movie about it. "Dr. Cabbie," which was shot entirely in Toronto and stars Vinay Virmani ("Score: A Hockey Musical") and Kunal Nayyar ("The Big Bang Theory"), follows the frustrating journey of Deepak, who applies for jobs in Toronto but quickly realizes things aren't going as he planned. Frustrated, he resorts to driving a taxi, which ends up being more lucrative than he imagined. (Watch trailer, above.) The movie opens in theatres across North America on September 19. All 'American Idol' Judges Will Return for Season 14 Posted: Despite sinking ratings, "American Idol" is determined to keep afloat, and is keeping its judging roster intact for Season 14. Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban are all set to return to "Idol" next year, marking the first time since 2012 that there will be no changes in the judging lineup between seasons. Host Ryan Seacrest, who's been with the show since its inception, is also coming back. "Jennifer, Keith, Harry, and Ryan are the very best in the business at what they do, and I'm thrilled that they are returning to American Idol for another season," said David Hill, senior executive vice president of 21st Century Fox, in a statement announcing the news. "Each brings unique qualities and expertise to the team, but they all share the same passion for helping undiscovered singers achieve the American dream." The stability at the judges' table comes as the show faces some uncertainty heading into its next season -- namely, how to cope with continually sliding ratings. "Idol" was down 28 percent in the coveted 18-49 bracket this year, and has been on a consistent downward trajectory for years now. Producers had been toying with the idea of cutting "Idol"'s schedule down to one show per week, like fellow flagging reality competition shows "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance," which combine both a performance and results show into one weekly installment. No word yet on whether or not Fox is definitively going forward with that plan. "American Idol" will be back for Season 14 sometime in 2015. Laura Prepon Will Be In Every Episode of 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 3 Posted: Remember last year, when "Orange Is the New Black" fans were going crazy over the rumors that Laura Prepon wasn't going to be in Season 2 or might appear in just a few episodes? Well, luckily, we don't have to suffer through a repeat of that as Prepon has set the record straight -- her character, Alex Vause, will be in every episode of Season 3! Addressing her lack of screentime this year, Prepon told Us Weekly, "It sucked because [show creator] Jenji Kohan and I wanted me to be in it more, but with the schedule, it didn't happen. "I was so bummed out. But I handled it, so I'm in every [episode] in season three. It is so good." That makes sense with how Season 2 left off (SPOILERS AHEDAD!) -- Piper (Taylor Schilling) had called in a tip to Alex's parol officer, who caught her with a gun. Now that Alex has violated parole, it seems likely she'll end up back in Litchfield with her old lover. And with Piper completely free of her fiance, Larry (Jason Biggs), perhaps we'll see these two jailbirds rekindle their relationship! Emmy Nominations Wish List: Outstanding Variety Series Posted: The 2014 Emmy nominations will be revealed July 10 and in the days leading up to that big announcement we'll be sharing our dream picks for nods in the big categories. You can find our picks for all the reality categories here. Today's focus: Outstanding Variety Series. When it comes to Emmy wins, Outstanding Variety Series hasn't actually seen too much variety over the past decade. In fact, "The Daily Show' picked up the win in the category for 10 years consecutively until "The Colbert Report" broke its record-breaking streak. Nominees haven't evolved much either considering the category is primarily ruled by late night heavyweights like "Kimmel" and long-running favorites like "Bill Maher." We can only hope that this year just might be the one to shake things up. Joe Manganiello Talks Stripper Doc 'La Bare' and 'Magic Mike 2' Posted: Joe Manganiello, after gyrating and dancing up a storm in "Magic Mike," is hitting the male strip clubs again with "La Bare," a documentary that delves into the lives and aspirations of male performers from the popular Dallas venue of the same name. Manganiello wrote, directed and produced "La Bare," which opens on June 27. Clearly passionate about the project, Manganiello spoke to Moviefone Canada about the inspiration behind the movie, making his directorial debut and the costumes for his upcoming sequel, "Magic Mike 2." Moviefone Canada: At what point during filming "Magic Mike" did the idea for "La Bare" hit you? Joe Manganiello: Probably afterwards. It was all the conversations I had with people about the different topics. I realized male stripping and "Magic Mike" were really an entry point into this greater conversation. That conversation was about no matter how much we try to make men and women the same, we're different. And we're always going to be different. There's a certain point we have to put down the guns and knives and stop fighting with each other about it and celebrate it. And laugh at the way our respective fantasies as men and women manifest themselves in completely different ways, as shown by the differences between male and female strip clubs. You really get into the conversations about: "Why are men microwaves? You press the button and it turns on. Women are like an oven. They need to warm up. Why is that?" Men just wanted to see naked women and that's it. There's an underlying resentment by the women that have to do that for men. Whereas, you go to a male strip club and there's no resentment there. These guys are having the time of their lives. It's the greatest job you can have as a straight male in your 20s and 30s. This is the most fun you're ever going to have. So, what's different about that? There seems to be that topic of male objectification... It's like, "Well, when I think about it, I don't feel objectified. Furthermore, I don't care." I don't think any man cares why a woman likes him, as long as they do. It's hard work. That's the whole point of working hard and making money and becoming successful is that you get access to the gene pool. Any guy who had a rough time in high school for being smart, who then becomes a billionaire, I'm guessing he did it for that access. You want to get girls. The other side of it, if these guys can keep a fantasy going, they may have regulars, these women who have been coming to see them, in [stripper] Randy's case, for over 34 years. Well, what are you doing to these women? What are you saying to them? I want to know. I think I speak for every guy on the planet -- married, unmarried, single or dating -- what are you doing? What do you know about women? It's this great mystery that these guys have somewhat figured out more than other males. Really what it revolves around is treating women like a queen, treating them nice and making them feel wanted, sexy and special. When you boil it down, that's the secret, which is not what I expected. You think these guys would be sleazy, douchey players, but they are not at all. Maybe in different clubs or in a different city, that's the case. But that's not the case in Dallas. It's a very special club and a very special group of guys. I was so honoured to tell their stories. "La Bare" was originally conceived as a reality show. What made you switch forms? I showed a 15-minute reel from my first trip to Dallas to Steven Soderbergh and my friend Elvis Mitchell. Both of them said, "Do not sell this to anyone. This is a goldmine. Don't give it away. Do it yourself if you can. Finance it. Finish the story on your own. Don't let anyone interfere with what you're doing." I knew in my gut that was the right answer. It was very evident I had something special on my hands with this particular group of guys and their stories. Did you wrestle with including the murder of one of the male dancers? Every great documentary has a turn, something unexpected. This definitely had that, namely there was a murder. All of a sudden, I was very hesitant to hand off the responsibility of doing justice to this young man's life. I felt a responsibility to the guys at the club and his family, to pay tribute to his life and shed light on something where justice wasn't done. Was this a tough shoot? We shot "La Bare" in eight days total and we had enough [footage] for three movies. The DVD features are going to be insane. We have so much we left on the table. We just couldn't find a place for it in the story we were telling. The shooting process was magical and the movie is a series of shots and events and dialogue... there's no other word I can use to explain it but "divine." We had the cameras rolling and we got once-in-a-lifetime moments and once-in-a-lifetime quotes. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Community' Will Not Get a Hulu Revival Posted: Six seasons and a movie may remain just an unattainable dream for "Community" fans. The cult fave comedy was canceled this spring by NBC after five, low-rated seasons, but there was some hope that Hulu might pick it up. But TV Line reports that the online streaming service has "abandoned talks" with the show's producers, Sony Pictures Television. It's a major blow to hopes for a sixth season. "Community" fans adopted the mantra "six seasons and a movie" as a rallying cry to save the show as it teetered on the edge. But all is not lost ... yet. Perhaps another network or streaming service will step in to save the day. "Sony does not give up easily," a source told TV Line. "A lot can happen in one week." We haven't entered the darkest timeline yet, people. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The 25 Best MTV Shows Ever (VIDEO) Posted: MTV may have started out back in 1981 with the intention of broadcasting curated music videos to the American public, but over the years the network has transitioned into a reality, scripted, variety, and talk show powerhouse. MTV's music-centric shows were a a big part of their lineup until the last decade and over time the network has also introduced tons of original, often groundbreaking, programming that doesn't have anything to do with what's topping the charts. One of MTV's best series to date, "Teen Wolf," premiered its fourth season this week, and in honor of that show's success, we thought we would round up the best of the best from the network's past. It has sure seen its share of hits and misses over the years, and a few shows that you might have forgotten about, too. ("Clone High," anyone?) Sure, we miss the days of back-to-back music videos and funky VJs, but we're also grateful for a handful of gems over the music television years. 'Dracula Untold' Trailer: It Takes a Monster to Save a Family (VIDEO) Posted: Think you know the story of Dracula? Think again. No, really -- if you know all about the real Vlad Tepes and his predilection for impaling his enemies, or if you've read Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula," well ... "Dracula Untold" bears only a faint resemblance to either tale. A new trailer for "Dracula Untold," directed by Gary Shore, outlines a very different story. In this reimagining, Vlad (Luke Evans) is just a loving family man who turns to the dark side to save his wife, son, and people from Turkish invaders. So, he goes to "Dracula: Untold" opens in theaters Oct. 17. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'The Bachelorette' Week 6: Who's Up, Who's Down, Who's Out Posted: Things are starting to get real over in "Bachelorette" land -- Andi and her suitors are starting to take things to another level. This week, the "I love yous" started to fly and the emotions were riding high as the group headed to Italy, where there was no shortage of drama. Here are the highlights from "The Bachelorette" Season 10, week 6: -Nick got the first one on one, much to Cody's dismay. You see, Poor Cody hasn't seen any alone time with Andi at this point. Anyhoo, Nick and Andi rode around gondolas and hung out with some pigeons. When in -For the group date, the other men had to take a lie detector tests. Even Andi took one! What did we learn? Dylan doesn't wash his hands. Bum bum bum. That's pretty much it. When all was said and done, Andi ripped up the results. -Cody finally got his one on one, which involved answering letters that had been sent to Juliet (of ill-fated couple Romeo and Juliet.) Cody was sweet and impressed Andi, but not quite enough... In fair Verona where we lay our scene, he preceded to pour his heart out to her at dinner, but she cut him off while in tears. She "didn't see potential in the romance" and didn't want to hurt him by taking him further in the competition if she wasn't feelin' it. Arrivederci, Cody. So, who else was sent packing? Who was up? And who was down? Let's get to this weeks rankings: Who's out? Cody (see above) didn't land a rose after his date. JJ, our fair pantsepreneur, also said goodbye. Who's down? Josh (one of our frontrunners) and Andi seem to be getting their lines crossed. She revealed that she had a "cloud of doubt" about them and they just don't appear to have the chemistry or connection they used to. Dylan, like last week, mostly flew under the radar. Who's up? Brian showed off his playful side and took initiative, which Andi appreciated. Marcus put it all out there and said he was in love with Andi. Wildcard: Nick is obviously winning over Andi with his charms and bold moves, but it's clear that everyone else can't stand him. Aside from the departed Andrew, we guess he's the "is he here for the right reasons?" guy. Will he prove everyone wrong or is the villain they're making him out to be? This week's MVP: Chris admitted he was Andi's secret admirer. He was the one writing those little love notes! And that revelation earned him a group date rose.
