For a generation of kids who grew up in the early 80′s, much of their favorite Saturday morning fare was – unbeknownst to them – anime that had been dubbed and re-edited from Japan. Thus, Japan’s Macross became Robotech and Beast King GoLion became Voltron.

Along those same lines, the long-running Japanese anime Gatchaman was introduced to American audiences as Battle of the Planets. The show followed a group of super-powered young people (who may or may not be cyborgs) tasked with protecting the Earth from the villainous aliens of Spectra.

Now, Japan’s live-action movie based on the series is available on Blu-ray at DDDHouse.com for a June 13th pre-order. In case you haven’t seen it, watch the trailer!

THE MOVIE: In Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction (aka Transformers 4), a mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down Autobots and Decepticons – and a paranoid government official – on them. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Kelsey Grammar, Sophia Myles and Stanley Tucci. Transformers: Age of Extinction opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 27th.

Updates: In a TMZ interview (via Collider), Michael Bay states: “The movie will continue four years from the Attack on Chicago; which is in the last movie. So it's going to still have the same lineage.” | Collider reports that Paramount is apparently hoping to set Transformers 4 in mainland China.

Much like Iron Man 3 before it, Michael Bay’s latest sequel Transformers 4 will be a Chinese co-production. This will involve adding Chinese actors to the cast as well as select location shooting in China.

Deadline reports that Chinese actress Li Bingbing (Resident Evil: Retribution, Triple Tap) has been added to the Transformers 4 cast. | AICN has your first look at a redesigned Optimus Prime and two of his Autubot friends in car form. | The teaser poster. | Super Bowl trailer. | New poster. | Newest trailer. | New poster. | IMAX poster. | Newest poster, plus Collider has new images of Opimus Prime and Bumblebee. | New trailer. | New trailer. | Newest poster.

Last summer’s ‘giant monsters vs. mech’ film Pacific Rim proved to be a modest hit worldwide, grossing $400 million on a budget of about half that. The movie arrived in theaters with plenty of internet buzz, thanks in part to the reputation of director Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Blade II). Now Del Toro is assuring fans that, if they keep their fingers crossed, we might just get Pacific Rim 2.

The acclaimed Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker recently stated that he is working on a screenplay with Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand), and that Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi’s characters will be returning. In the past, Del Toro has teased that a sequel might involve humans ‘drifting’ (kind of a telepathic link) with a kaiju, or giant monster, and the kaiju/mech that would result from such a connection. Fans of the first film, we ask: what would you like to see in a Pacific Rim 2?
