'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Director Tells Us Where Mary Jane Would Have Fit and Why She Was Cut Out Posted: 29 Apr 2014 08:00 PM PDT Marc Webb certainly has the name for Spider-Man, and with the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 he's proven he's got the directorial chops too. Back when Amazing Spider-Man came out, Webb was a music video director best known for his feature debut, the charmingly quirky romantic comedy (500) Days of Summer. But now he's been thrust into the world of big-budget moviemaking, not just as a filmmaker but, with Sony's ever-expanding spider franchise, an overseer of an entire universe. That's a pretty big web. Or is it Webb? We got the chance to talk to Webb about where Mary Jane was supposed to have fit into the movie, the things that he got right with this one that he might have fumbled with the first film, and why New York is so important to the Spider-Man... Posted: 29 Apr 2014 06:00 PM PDT The vampires on From Dusk till Dawn: The Series aren't like the vampires you're used to seeing on TV. In fact, they're not even like the vampires in Robert Rodriguez' original movie. The show fully integrates the Aztec mythology hinted at in the movie, and this time around they've got this whole serpent thing going on that's just plain cool. If you don't believe us, just look above. The show's first big, vampire-heavy episode airs tonight (April 29, at 9 p.m. EST), and it is a doozy. Remember the Salma Hayek snake dance in the original film? Well, that happens here (get a look at in the video below), and then things really get out of control and the body parts start flying. It's pretty great and we spoke with special effects and makeup legend... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Three Must-Dos to Make a Successful 'Assassin's Creed' Movie Posted: 29 Apr 2014 05:00 PM PDT Update: Since it looks like Assassin's Creed finally has found a director in Justin Kurzel (the upcoming Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender), we're rerunning the below piece on what we hope the movie will get right: With the newest entry in the popular Assassin’s Creed game franchise due out later this month, this seems like as good a time as any for a status report on the series’ plan to jump from your home console to the multiplex. The latest info involving the project [via Coming Soon] reveals that UbiSoft (the game’s distributor) will team up with New Regency to finance the project. UbiSoft will rely on New Regency’s production and distribution know-how while maintaining firm creative control over the vision of the... 'Twilight' Gets the Bad Lip Reading Treatment and It's Hilarious Posted: 29 Apr 2014 04:00 PM PDT Does making fun of Twilight ever get old? Find out for yourself with a new clip from the fine folks at Bad Lip Reading, spoofing the dreadful Twilight saga. There’s an entire series, which we spotted at Geekologie and included for you here, in case you’re feeling extra masochistic today. “I don’t like your face,” says earnest Twilight dad. “You’ve got horrible zoo hands,” a pouty Bella replies. “And you have the record for frowning,” dad retorts. At least Bad Lip Reading is accurate. MST3K fans, Twilight haters, and the epically bored: dig into these fun clips, and ponder the fact that Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has more money than most banks.  ... Posted: 29 Apr 2014 02:00 PM PDT You know what movie has actually held up surprisingly well? Not Another Teen Movie. Sure, some of its crudeness (like the opening bedroom scene) is a bit antiquated now, but overall it's a funny, wry dismemberment of a whole generation's worth of teen movies. Plus it's got a great cast that makes us wish Chris Evans would do more comedies. We hope that a decade from now we'll be saying the same thing about They Came Together, a deadpan spoof of cheesy romantic comedies from the team that made Wet Hot American Summer. And we stress hope, because the first trailer for the film isn't exactly the laugh riot we'd expect from a comedy starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler who find themselves living in a typical rom-com world complete with stereotypical friends and... 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Revealed: See the First Picture of Them All Together Posted: 29 Apr 2014 12:50 PM PDT The Star Wars rumors have been approaching ridiculous levels, and while many thought Disney would wait until the fan-favorite holiday of May the Fourth to reveal any major news, the new owners of George Lucas' space saga have gone ahead and revealed the first picture of the core cast all together. Here's the official cast: John Boyega (Attack the Block) Daisy Ridley (a relative newcommer) Adam Driver (HBO's Girls) Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) Domhnall Gleeson (About Time) Max von Sydow (The Exorcist) Harrison Ford (Han Solo) Carrie Fisher (Leia) Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) Kenny Baker (R2D2) And that's all we have for now. There's no word on who any of... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 29 Apr 2014 12:00 PM PDT “I acknowledge that what I have done with this film is both immoral and illegal,” reads the opening of Steven Soderbergh’s recut of the infamous cinematic disaster Heaven's Gate. The 1980 Western, directed by Deer Hunter filmmaker Michael Cimino, was a box office bomb, earning a measly $3 million on a $44 million budget. After nearly bankrupting the studio, the failure of Heaven’s Gate subsequently ruined Cimino’s career and marked the end of the loosey-goosey New Hollywood era. Soderbergh aimed to fix some of Cimino’s wrongdoings by chopping the movie in half (all 219 minutes of it), removing a few of the most prominent scenes, and moving the prologue to the end. As the Verge puts it, “the result is a film that skimps on background... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'True Detective' Director Set to Introduce Us to 'The Black Count' Posted: 29 Apr 2014 11:00 AM PDT Director Cary Fukunaga is a hot commodity in Hollywood in the wake of his success with HBO’s True Detective, and now Deadline reports that the filmmaker has lined up his next project. If you’re expecting another heavy modern-day mystery, you’re in for a shock – Fukunaga is set to direct an adaptation of Tom Reiss’ The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo for Sony. Reiss’ 2012 biography won a Pulitzer Prize for its examination of the life of General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a French military man of color who served during the country’s revolution and was a favorite of Napoleon. Dumas was the highest ranking colored person to serve in a European army, and his exploits provided the fodder for novels like...
