'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Post-Credits Clip Teases 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Posted: The Marvel Universe is growing even more interconnected than ever. The latest link is between "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." How can these totally unrelated properties be tied together? Empire reports that a clip from "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will play after the credits of "Amazing Spider-Man 2." Marvel movies almost include a post-credits teaser, but this time, it won't set up a character for a different movie -- like how "Iron Man 2" flashed an image of Thor's hammer or "The Avengers" introduced Thanos, the villain in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy." Instead, there will be a full clip from "X-Men" featuring Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Havok (Lucas Tilt), and Toad (Evan Jonigkeit) battling William Stryker (Josh Helman) and his soldiers. It's an unusual collaboration between two different studios, Sony and 20th Century Fox, but a win-win for both sides -- fans have even more incentive to buy tickets to "Amazing Spider-Man 2," and "X-Men" gets an extended promotional opportunity. Variety explains that the deal came about because of a contractual issue with director Marc Webb. After "(500) Days of Summer," Webb was supposed to helm another movie for Fox. They allowed him to take on the "Spider-Man" sequel only after Sony agreed to promote "X-Men." Alas, that's the extent of the connection between the two films -- Spider-Man will not be joining Professor X's band of mutants. This Is the Reason 'Noah' Is Full of White People Posted: If you went to see Darren Aronofsky's epic new film "Noah," you might have noticed everyone in the film is white. Or not! Maybe you were distracted by all the rock monsters and stuff? But in case you were wondering, "Noah" co-writer and exec producer Ari Handel had a pretty good reason why there was no racial diversity in the film. The scary part is that it seems to have been on purpose. Handel told "The High Calling," "From the beginning, we were concerned about casting, the issue of race. What we realized is that this story is functioning at the level of myth, and as a mythical story, the race of the individuals doesn't matter. They're supposed to be stand-ins for all people. Either you end up with a Bennetton [sic] ad or the crew of the Starship Enterprise. You either try to put everything in there, which just calls attention to it, or you just say, 'Let's make that not a factor, because we're trying to deal with everyman.' Looking at this story through that kind of lens is the same as saying, 'Would the ark float and is it big enough to get all the species in there?' That's irrelevant to the questions because the questions are operating on a different plane than that; they're operating on the mythical plane." Is this the dumbest thing he could have offered up as an explanation? He could have gone with the good old excuse that they were just casting the best actors for the parts, and those actors all happened to be white. Using Klingons and clothes models as comparisons is crazy, especially since Benetton's award-winning and often-controversial campaigns are downright prescient. Maybe Handel should pick up a copy of National Geographic once in a while. Of course, this isn't the first time that a movie has come under fire for its white casting choices -- see also Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, most recently -- but it's definitely the first time anyone's been quite so blatant about it. In public, at least. [via Jezebel] Photo courtesy Paramount This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Chloe Grace Moretz Officially Joins 'The 5th Wave' Posted: Chloe Grace Moretz won our hearts way back in 2009 as the sassy little sister in "(500) Days of Summer," and she's been kicking out the jams ever since. Despite a few missteps like "Dark Shadows" and "Carrie," Moretz is still one of the coolest and smartest young actresses in Hollywood. Of course, the coolest thing to do right now is star in your own young adult action/sci-fi franchise, and that's just what Moretz is doing with "The 5th Wave." Moretz will star as Cassie, one of the few people left on Earth after four waves of alien attacks, and there's a fifth coming soon. Can she find her brother before what's likely to be the last wave of attacks hits Earth? And what about this swoony dude she meets in her travels? "The 5th Wave" is just the first in a planned trilogy of books by Rick Yancey. The first book was a best seller that its publisher Penguin threw a ton of money into marketing, which is a really big deal given the state of book publishing. As for the movie, this isn't going to be a "Beautiful Creatures"-size affair, either; Sony spent a whole lot of money on the movie rights for "The 5th Wave." You might not have heard of director J Blakeson yet, but he's got chops. Blakeson wrote and directed "The Disappearance of Alice Creed," a tightly wound, violent thriller starring Gemma Arterton that is absolutely worth seeking out. Susannah Grant, who wrote "The Soloist," "Erin Brockovich," and "Ever After" is on adaptation duty. Now the question is who could hold his own against Moretz. Place your bets now! Posted: Canada's favourite trio is back on the big screen with "Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It," and it's almost like they never left us. After taking a brief hiatus from the world of cinema, Ricky, Julian and Bubbles have returned to tell the story of how they all found their way back to each other. At the start of the movie, things aren't looking good: Bubbles is living under J-Rock's porch, Julian is selling "clean" pee for drug tests, and Ricky is relatively successful with his marijuana grow-op business -- until the Canadian government says they're contemplating legalizing the drug, thus rendering his livelihood obsolete. Moviefone Canada caught up with the boys at their Toronto hotel to talk about "Don't Legalize It," Toronto Mayor Rob Ford running for re-election, and their thoughts on Justin Bieber's legal troubles. (Watch video interview, above. Hope you like the time stamp on this article!) "Trailer Park Boys 3: Don't Legalize It" opens in theatres across Canada on April 18. Here's the 'Green Inferno' Trailer You've Been Waiting For (EXCLUSIVE) Posted: 2014 seems to be an embarrassment of riches when it comes to modest genre movies. And it's not just horror movies, either. Everything from Denis Villeneuve's mind-bending "Enemy" to next month's terrific slice of Southern fried revenge "Cold in July" have delighted, surprised, and made us think, at least momentarily, that we're living in some kind of golden age of genre movie, where top quality product can be released over a variety of platforms, with the same intended, oftentimes shocking punch. And if there is one master of shock, it is none other than Eli Roth, who gave us the "Hostel" movies and "Cabin Fever." He's been out of the filmmaking game for a while, mostly due to his commitments as an actor (he starred as the Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-nominated, spellcheck-proof "Inglourious Basterds"), but this year he's back in a big way. Not only did he produce Ti West's spooky cult thriller "The Sacrament" (out next month), but he's actually directed a movie of his own, too! That movie is"The Green Inferno" and we're thrilled to debut the exclusive trailer right here. There isn't a whole lot of plot revealed in this atmospheric (almost unbearably so) trailer, but we do know that it's about a group of activists from New York who travel deep into the South American jungle to save a tribe from extinction. But they get more than they bargained for, when they realize that the tribe they're dealing with is rather, er, primordial. When the trailer knowingly teases that the movie is "from the twisted mind of Eli Roth," it feels like the marketing team's attempt to say, "Look, we warned you." The movie was co-written, produced, and directed by Roth, who debuted the movie at last year's Toronto International Film Festival. And it must have made some kind of impression, since the sequel, directed by his "Aftershock" confederate Nicolas Lopez, has already been commissioned. "The Green Inferno" opens September 5th. Try to see it at one of those theaters, like the Alamo Drafthouse, where you can eat during the movie. That'd probably be best. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Final 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Trailer Is Jam-Packed With Mutants (VIDEO) Posted: So. Much. '70s! Yep, it's the third and final clip for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and our fabulous freaks are in their prime when Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) appears on their respective doorsteps to recruit them for a really big mission. Those muttonchops are right on, man. It's a hard sell to convince Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), Hank McCoy (Nicholas Hoult), and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) to flex their mutant powers and team up to break one particular bad boy out of jail. Magneto (Michael Fassbender) has been a bad, bad boy, and as such, is tucked away deep beneath the Pentagon. That's where Pietro Maximoff (Evan Peters) and his Quicksilver skills come in. But why would they want to let Magneto out in the first place? Sure, he's super hot and stuff, but he's pretty bad news. Well, the humans have something even worse in store for the X-Men - the Sentinels. These robots have one thing on their minds, and it's to find and kill mutants. Can these guys hug it out before then or what? This trailer also shows off plenty of the regular gang, including Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, who took a break from hanging out and being adorable in NYC to make this movie. That was nice of them. New faces include Peter Dinklage as a human with an impressive moustache and Omar Sy as Bishop. "X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens on May 23. Don't worry, though. Director Bryan Singer and writers Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris are already hard at work on "X-Men: Apocalypse." We cannot wait to see the '80s gear that's in store for them. Hypercolor t-shirts and matching Jams, anyone? This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'A Haunted House 2' Preview: Don't Sneak Up on Marlon Wayans (EXCLUSIVE) Posted: Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) can't catch a break when it comes to his love life. He thought he'd left all that supernatural nonsense in the past, after the death of his girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) in "A Haunted House." She was possessed by a rather... noxious entity, and the whole unfortunate event concluded with her death. Man, love stinks. Things aren't looking any more promising for Malcolm in "A Haunted House 2," as you can see from this exclusive clip from the movie. He's shacked up with a new gal named Megan (Jaime Pressly) and her two kids, and things are copacetic between the living -- it's just the house they've got to worry about. Oh, and Kisha's returned from the dead. That's kind of a problem too. A simple game of hide and seek (with that whole creepy clapping thing you might remember from "The Conjuring") ends poorly for everyone involved when Megan learns the hard way not to try and trick Malcolm. Seriously, you can't sneak up on him like that. "A Haunted House 2," which Wayans co-wrote with Rick Alvarez, opens this Friday. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Move Over Johnny Depp, Here Are 11 Movie Stars Who Already Own the Internet Posted: This week, Johnny Depp stars in "Transcendence," as a mad scientist who has his mind uploaded to a computer. Pretty soon he's taken over the Internet and making little glittery robots fly around all over the place. It may be science fiction, but its groundwork is very much in reality. There are a handful of movie personalities who already have the Internet in their utter thrall. With a few posts we imagine that they could probably ignite a similar fervor. (Ironically, Depp barely has an Internet presence at all, and yes, we are counting "The Lone Ranger" memes in that qualification.) The 'Walk of Shame' Red Band Trailer Is Full of NSFW Shenanigans (VIDEO) Posted: A new red band trailer for "Walk of Shame" delves deeper into the crazy shenanigans that Megan (Elizabeth Banks) gets into while taking the titular stroll through Los Angeles, as she desperately tries to beat the clock and make it to a big job interview. The clip opens with Megan's friends (Gillian Jacobs and Sarah Wright) trying to convince her to go out to get over the disappointment of losing out on a news anchor job. "You're going to meet some young, stupid, hot guy, and you're going to take all your anger and all your aggression out on his penis," Jacobs explains. Megan ends up doing just that when she hooks up with James Marsden, going back to his place for some adult fun and drunken debauchery. Long story short, Megan wakes up to discover her phone, purse, and car are all missing -- and thanks to Marsden's antiquated (but convenient) landline, she's got a message that she's still in the running for the anchor job and needs to get to the TV station ASAP. While desperately trying to get across town, Megan is mistaken for a hooker, stumbles into a drug ring and subsequent shootout, and gets pepper-sprayed by a surly bus driver. Soon, she becomes the news herself, with reports that "a deranged woman in a yellow dress is rampaging through Los Angeles." Based on this red band trailer, that last bit of narration seems to sum up the movie's plot pretty perfectly. "Walk of Shame" hits theaters April 25.
