What Is the Most Iconic '80s Movie Moment?

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 08:00 PM PDT

Twenty-five years ago today, cinema changed forever. That makes it sound like something groundbreaking or game changing occurred, but all that happend back on April 14, 1989 is that moviegoers were introduced to Say Anything, and with it the unforgettable image and sound of John Cusack holding a boom box blaring Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes." It probably actually took a few days or weeks for the moment to reach pop-culture consciousness in a way that made it iconic, but regardless it's difficult to imagine life, the world, the movies without that scene. It's like trying to imagine a time before trees.  Maybe that's a stretch, but really famous movie moments are so implanted in our brains that they seem as if they've always been there. Cinematic...

'Gone Girl' Trailer: Ben Affleck and David Fincher Are the Latest to Bring Back the Hollywood Thriller

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 07:30 PM PDT

The trailer for Gone Girl has us asking two things. First, who killed Ben Affleck's wife? Second, how great is it that thrillers are coming back? Last year Prisoners impressed audiences with not only stellar performances by Hugh Jackman and Jake Gylenhaal, but also a big, old-school thriller vibe. That who-done-it side of thrillers has been missing from Hollywood for a bit, but now another heavy-hitting director is bringing it back: David Fincher (Se7en, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Zodiac). And since he's not exactly a stranger when it comes to grand murder mysteries, it's safe to say we're a little excited. Gone Girl is about a man (Ben Affleck) who is accused of murdering his wife (Rosamund Pike) on their fifth wedding anniversary. It's based on the...

Jake Busey Tells Us How 'From Dusk till Dawn: The Series' Is Kick-starting His Career Comeback

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 07:00 PM PDT

If someone were to make a 20 Feet from Stardom-type documentary about actors, they'd be smart to talk to Jake Busey. We spoke with him earlier today about his role in Robert Rodriguez' From Dusk till Dawn: The Series and were surprised by how honest he was about how his career didn't exactly go the way he was expecting. After all, some of his earliest jobs were in high-profile films from directors like Robert Zemeckis, Paul Verhoeven, Tony Scott and Peter Jackson. Unfortunately those films were also high-profile disappointments, from a box office perspective at least. Movies like Contact, Starship Troopers and The Frighteners have gone on to live long, great lives on home video, but as Busey told us, being in a movie that takes a decade to become a cultural hit...

Marvel Studios Countdown: Move Over Black Widow, Here Comes Gamora

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 06:00 PM PDT

Across nine Marvel Studios superhero films we’ve only ended up with two female superheroes -- superspy Black Widow and Asgardian warrior Sif. In the comics that serve as the inspiration for these films, women are much better represented, and that’s part of the reason so many fans -- male and female -- feel frustrated that Marvel Studios seems reluctant to add more women to its roster. These heroes are shoulder to shoulder with the men in the Marvel books, so why isn’t that reflected on the big screen? Maybe that’s why I get so excited seeing Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana in Guardians of the Galaxy, in promotional images for the upcoming film. The other reason is because of her legacy as a cosmic Marvel character, ripped from the imagination of comic...

10 Tips on How to Live Your Life, According to Cameron Crowe's 'Say Anything'

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 04:00 PM PDT

Say Anything, now celebrating its 25th anniversary, has endured for a lot of reasons. There’s the boom box, and the whole “I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen.” Also, there’s how it captures our nostalgia for teenage love in all its unbridled romance and devastating heartbreak. But Cameron Crowe’s film endures because it’s never been just the teen comedy/romance it appears to be. It possesses a maturity that has long offered not just legitimate wisdom about love at any age, but life too. Here are some of its chief insights about loving, living and tax fraud.

Watch a Hilarious Prank Featuring Emma Stone and the Spice Girls

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 03:48 PM PDT

Thanks to the Internet, we get to learn tons of useless stuff about the personal lives of our favorite stars. Did you guys have any clue that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actress Emma Stone was a huge Spice Girls fan? We surely didn’t. Website Pajiba dug up this video appearance of Stone on the Graham Norton Show, where she was joined by Spidey costars Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx.   The group discussed reprising their roles for the blockbuster franchise. We also get to see some photos of Stone as an 11-year-old actress performing in youth-theater productions. We’ll probably have nightmares about her costume with the fake chest hair (yes, really), but we digress. The real fun comes when Norton pranks the star, using her weirdly obsessive love of the...

James Cameron Talks 'Avatar' Sequels, 'Terminator,' 'Aliens' and More

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 02:00 PM PDT

Director James Cameron is a busy fellow these days, as he continues preproduction work on Avatar 2, 3 and 4. That didn’t stop the filmmaker from popping onto Reddit this weekend to participate in one of the site’s famous AMAs (Ask Me Anything). Cameron was surprisingly candid during the exchange with fans, and the highlights of the chat involve the Aliens director’s thoughts on filmmaking in general, as well as views on upcoming movies. We’ve gone through the lengthy chat and grabbed the most interesting responses. One of the most interesting questions – which inspired a very short and direct answer – involved Cameron’s plans to make a sequel to True Lies. As it turns out, we’re not going to see that film anytime soon, if ever...

'X-Men' Writer Is Making a Movie About the Long-Lost 'E.T.' Video Game

Posted: 14 Apr 2014 01:00 PM PDT

It’s one of gaming’s most infamous stories – back in 1983, as part of the great video game crash, Atari buried millions of unsold copies of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial in a New Mexico landfill. Did it really happen, though? We’ll find out for sure in two weeks, when filmmaker Zak Penn films a documentary wherein they open the landfill in search of the fabled games. E.T. remains one of the worst video games in the history of the medium, and a shining example of Atari’s hubris – the company created more copies of the game (12 million) than there were systems to play it on (10 million). Needless to say, this didn’t end well – and the company nearly destroyed the fledgling video game industry before it really hit its stride. Penn...
