Takashi Miike returns to form for ‘Yakuza Apocalypse’ Posted: 20 Apr 2014 03:30 PM PDT Shooting has started for Takashi Miike’s Yakuza Apocalypse. According to filmbiz.asia, the upcoming fantasy action flick revolves around an immortal vampire who joins the yakuza and becomes the most powerful fighter in the criminal underworld. The film is penned by writer-director Yamaguchi Yoshitaka (Neko Samurai). Miike (13 Assassins) calls Yakuza Apocalypse his return to form. In a public statement, he said: “Goodbye to tediously boring Japanese films… no one wanted this to happen, but I am making a rampage back to the basics!” Yakuza Apocalypse has an expected theatrical release date for 2015. Louis Koo (Flash Point), Daniel Wu (Shinjuku Incident) and Lau Ching-Wan (The Bullet Vanishes) are back in Alan Mak and Felix Chong’s Overheard 3. The forthcoming film, which is currently in post-production, will be released domestically in 2014. The thriller also stars Huang Yi (Ip Man – The Final Fight), Michelle Ye (Motorway), Alex Fong Chung-Sun (Last of the Best) and Zhou Xun (True Legend). 2014 is one hell of a year for ‘Godzilla’ fans! Posted: 20 Apr 2014 12:01 AM PDT To celebrate its 60th Anniversary, a new restoration of Ishiro Honda’s Godzilla: The Japanese Original (aka Gojira) will debut April 12 at the fifth TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood, followed by a national release beginning at New York's Film Forum, April 18-24. In addition to the 60th anniversary re-release, new Blu-ray and DVD editions of the following movies will be available in April/May from Universal and Section 23: 1962′s King Kong vs. Godzilla, 1966′s Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, 1971′s Godzilla vs. Hedorah and 1972′s Godzilla vs. Gigan. And of course, there’s the highly anticipated reboot of Godzilla – starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen - which will be hitting theaters May 16, 2014. Updates: For those also interested in Gamera, Mill Creek is releasing the following titles on Blu-ray/DVD in April: Gamera: Ultimate Collection Volume One, Gamera: Ultimate Collection Volume Two and The Gamera: Legacy Collection.
