April is already shaping up to be a busy month for comics, movies, and collectibles, and that doesn't include all of the fantastic stuff you might have been excited about, only to learn that it was an April Fools Day prank. Sam Rockwell Explains a 'Galaxy Quest' Sequel Was Closer Than Anyone Realized

Posted: 06 Apr 2016 06:00 PM PDT

The last we heard about a sequel to Galaxy Quest, one of the best sci-fi comedies of all time, Paramount Television was in the early stages of putting together a TV series based on the original movie. That news made no mention of who from the original's cast would be returning, but it was at least confirmation that something was happening. It was nice news, especially after years of Tim Allen saying a sequel had been written but was never able to get off the ground. Sadly it looks like that sequel may never happen, but apparently it got even closer than any of us realized. According to Galaxy Quest co-star Sam Rockwell, Amazon had stepped in to back the sequel. Everyone was working on the paperwork when Alan Rickman died, which then threw the whole project back into limbo. He...

Warner Bros. Delays Andy Serkis' 'Jungle Book' Movie But Pulls 'Wonder Woman' Closer

Posted: 06 Apr 2016 04:30 PM PDT

Dueling movies are nothing new in Hollywood. They long predated the '90s, but the go-to reference always seems to be Deep Impact and Armageddon or Volcano and Dante's Peak. They aren't movies that actually opened against each other, but they tackled similar enough material close enough together that they became inextricably linked for all of pop culture history. A new generation was about to get their own movie duel thanks to rival Jungle Book movies coming from Disney and Warner Bros., but now that fight has been postponed quite a bit. No, Disney hasn't suddenly freaked out and pulled Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book (pictured above). The movie, which hits theaters on April 15, 2016, is already getting a ton of buzz. The cast is incredible, the trailers...

Posted: 06 Apr 2016 03:00 PM PDT

For most people September 4, 2015 was just another day. For geeks it holds a different place in history. That was Force Friday, the day retailers all over the U.S. started selling a wave of new toys tied to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And there was one clear king who ruled over all of the other toys: the Sphero BB-8. The rolling ball of wonder seemed like actual science fiction brought to life. Fans everywhere plunked down $149.99 for the chance to bring this special part of a Star Wars movie they hadn't seen yet into their world. And after about 10 minutes of clumsily navigating the little bot around their living room, bumping into table legs and terrifying cats, they realized it didn't really do a whole lot. They'd then take BB-8 off of his dock whenever a...

'The Jungle Book' Buzz Is Building; Watch the Latest Clips

Posted: 06 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Who could have imagined that another version of The Jungle Book would inspire a ton of positive buzz in advance of its release? Sure, director Jon Favreau scored big with Will Ferrell in Elf and helped kick off the modern superhero age with Iron Man, but Iron Man 2 fell short of expectations and Cowboys & Aliens was, to put it kindly, an ambitious disappointment. When he boarded the project in November 2013, Favreau stated: "The hope is to relaunch a family brand with certain mythic elements… [with] action elements and visual effects," which sounded like a combination of Disney's 1967 animated and 1994 live-action versions. Even as well-known actors like Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson and Lupita Nyong'o joined the voice cast in early 2014, we wondered...
