Daisy Ridley Reunites With J.J. Abrams for Thriller 'Kolma': Report

Posted:

Oscar Wilde Awards 2016 - Inside"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" starlet Daisy Ridley has reportedly booked her next project, and she'll be working with a familiar face.

TheWrap reports that Ridley will re-team with her "Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams for the thriller "Kolma," a remake of the Israeli film "All I've Got." Ridley will star, and Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot banner.

According to the trade, the flick has an unusual fantasy element. Here's how the 2003 original plays out:

Described as a cross between a loftier, more mystical version of "The Notebook" and Albert Brooks' 1991 fantasy romance "Defending Your Life," the project follows a young couple who get in a car accident that leaves the man dead. Decades later, the old woman must choose whether to reunite with her long-lost love in the afterlife or return to the fateful day her life changed forever.

TheWrap cautions that this logline could change in the remake, though no details have been confirmed just yet. Director Marielle Heller ("Diary of a Teenage Girl") is reportedly being circled to helm "Kolma," from a script by Megan Holley (which has also been worked over by several other scribes, including writer-director-actress Sarah Polley).

It's unclear if this role will take Ridley out of the running for the lead in a reboot of the "Tomb Raider" series. The actress confirmed that she was in talks to play archaeologist Lara Croft in a new movie based on the successful video game franchise, taking over for Angelina Jolie.

No word yet on how soon "Kolma" is expected to begin production. Stay tuned.

Michael Strahan Is Leaving 'Live' for 'Good Morning America'

Posted:

"Live With Kelly" Announces New Co-HostFormer football star Michael Strahan is changing jobs once again, though he's still sticking with television hosting: Strahan will leave his gig on "Live! With Kelly and Michael" for a spot as a co-host on "Good Morning America."

ABC made the announcement on Tuesday that Strahan would be making the switch ("Live!," produced by Disney, is also part of the ABC family). While the former New York Giants player has been making regular appearances on "GMA" in recent years, this move will be a permanent one.

"Michael has been a stellar addition to the broadcast. Over the past two years on 'GMA,' he's proven to be a tireless and versatile broadcaster with an incredible ability to connect with people, from veterans to American pop culture icons and newsmakers," said James Goldston, president of ABC News, in a memo sent to ABC staffers. "He will end a four year run as Kelly Ripa's co-host on 'Live!,' where he has honed his skills as an interviewer with genuine warmth and a quick wit. At 'GMA,' he'll now have even more opportunities to tell stories that inspire, inform and empower people."

Along with his work on "Live!" and "GMA," Strahan has also been an NFL analyst for Fox Sports after retiring from the league in 2007. He'll continue in that latter role in addition to his new "GMA" duties.

No new co-host for "Live!"'s Kelly Ripa has been announced yet, though we expect Disney and ABC will conduct a thorough search in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Nathan Fillion Responds to Stana Katic Leaving 'Castle': 'She Will Be Missed'

Posted:

This week has not been a good one for "Castle" fans, with news breaking that ABC had let go co-lead Stana Katic, as well as fellow original cast member Tamala Jones, reportedly over budgetary reasons. Now, titular star Nathan Fillion has responded to Katic's exit.

In a statement posted to his Twitter account, Fillion called Katic his "partner," and noted that he considers her character, detective Kate Beckett, "one of the greatest police officers on television."

"I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues," the actor's statement continued. "She will be missed."
Fillion's statement also indicated that the actor was optimistic about "Castle"'s future moving forward. Both Katic and Jones were let go ahead of a season nine renewal; should the show get the renewal, ABC is reportedly cutting costs with a shorter episode order.

Deadline has some additional scoop about ABC's curious decision to dismiss Katic, especially if the show will indeed continue (which seems likely, given that Fillion's mention of multiple additional seasons). According to the trade, Fillion and Katic apparently had an acrimonious on-set relationship, which deteriorated to the point where Fillion allegedly requested to work with Katic only two days per week. In a statement to Deadline on Monday, Katic declined to comment on the specific circumstances surrounding her departure.

Season eight of "Castle" -- the last with Katic and Jones -- wraps sometime in May.

Here's a First Look at Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in 'Power Rangers' Reboot

Posted:

rita repulsa, elizabeth banks, power rangers, reboot, first lookElizabeth Banks is set to make her villainous mark as Rita Repulsa in the upcoming "Power Rangers" reboot, and now, we have our first look at the actress in all her antagonistic glory.

Entertainment Weekly and People jointly debuted the image, which features Banks wearing an emerald green getup -- complete with some sharp talons and angular facial features -- that looks sleeker and more reptilian than past representations of Rita. According to the actress, that difference is intentional.

"It's definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa," Banks told People. "We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers."

Just what that backstory will be is being kept under wraps for now, though Rita's mission remains the same: conquer Earth at any cost, and take down those do-gooder Power Rangers in the process. As the villain, Banks told People that she's excited for "world domination – and being unpredictable as a character." We're excited, too, and can't wait to see what Banks does with the campy character.

Banks will make her evil debut when "Power Rangers" hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
