Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg Making 'Daddy's Home' Sequel

Posted:

Daddy's HomeWill Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg just can't quit each other.

Deadline reports that the two stars are reuniting once again on the big screen, this time to make a sequel to their 2015 comedy "Daddy's Home." They previously starred together in 2010's "The Other Guys."

"Daddy's Home" earned $240 million worldwide, a pretty take for a non-action-filled comedy. Ferrell and Walhberg will reprise their roles as the stepfather and father, respectively, to Linda Cardellini's two children (it's unclear if the actress has signed on for the sequel). In the original, they engaged in petty rivalry over the kids' affections.

The ending was left somewhat open, after (SPOILERS AHEAD) Wahlberg's character, Dusty, marries a woman with a daughter. And just like Ferrell's stepdad, Brad, was intimidated by Dusty, so Dusty is intimidated by his wife's ex (John Cena). It's likely the sequel will revolve around the new dad in the blended family picture.

Happy Earth Day! Here's the First 'Independence Day: Resurgence' Trailer

Posted:

Independence Day ResurgenceOnce again, aliens are invading Earth and blowing up everything in their path. And once again, humankind has to team up to save their planet.

To celebrate Earth Day, Fox released the first trailer for "Independence Day: Resurgence," the sequel to 1996 blockbuster hit. Director Roland Emmerich jokingly apologized for destroying Earth so often in his movies, and "Resurgence" is no exception.
Emmerich's comment might have been tongue-in-cheek, but he really does like blowing things up. Entire cities look to be decimated. London Bridge goes falling down. As returning cast member Jeff Goldblum ironically notes, "They like to get the landmarks." That's putting it lightly.

Also returning from the original movie are Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner. Meanwhile, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, and Maika Monroe represent the new generation battling the alien invasion.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" opens in theaters June 24.

Roland Emmerich Gives Earth Day Apology for Destroying the World So Many Times

Posted:

Roland Emmerich is the king of disaster flicks, helming such apocalyptic fare as "Independence Day" (and its upcoming sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence"), "The Day After Tomorrow," and "2012," and laying waste to basically the entire planet in the process. But in honor of Earth Day, Emmerich has offered an apology for being so harsh on the world.

In a hilarious Instagram post, the director shared a screen shot from "Resurgence," depicting a fiery cityscape and even more destruction on the horizon. But Emmerich wanted to make amends, directing his comments to the planet and offering a tongue-in-cheek mea culpa for all the chaos he's caused over the years.

"Dear Earth, I'm sorry for destroying you in a lot of my movies," the filmmaker captioned his post. "In real life you're truly my favorite."

Considering all the floods, earthquakes, ice ages, fires, explosions, alien attacks, Godzilla-unleashing, and White House destruction he's masterminded over the years, the director certainly does owe Mother Earth a serious apology for his celluloid sins. Unfortunately for her, the footage we've seen from "Resurgence" so far indicates that Emmerich hasn't exactly changed his apocalyptic ways.

At least we can take comfort in the fact that all the chaos he's depicted has been fictional so far. Our Earth Day wish is that it never becomes a reality.

'Ratchet & Clank' Star Bella Thorne Is 'Terrible' at Video Games

Posted:

boohoo.com Launches Flagship LA Pop Up Store With Opening Party Fueled By CIROC Ultra-Premium VodkaA short list of the things Bella Thorne is on the brink of dominating: Hollywood, Instagram, television and, if possible, outer space. Just don't partner up with her in a video game challenge.

Yes, even though the 18-year-old actress -- who made her name on the Disney Channel hit series "Shake It Up" and followed that with roles on the big screen including "Blended" and "The Duff" -- is giving voice to the Galactic Ranger Cora in the movie adaptation of the popular PlayStation game "Ratchet & Clank," she admits her personal gaming skills are sorely lacking.

But that may be the only territory she has trouble conquering; Thorne's already become an in-demand actress (with no less than nine films planned for release within the next year), a teen style icon, a bestselling YA novelist, a recording artist and an Instagram star with over 11 million followers. She's also about to return to TV in a big way, teaming with "Pretty Little Liars" showrunner Marlene King for the upcoming Freeform series "Famous in Love."

Moviefone caught up with the busy actor to discuss her new film and her future projects.

Moviefone: What was it that got you excited to be a part of "Ratchet & Clank"?

Bella Thorne: You know, I was really hoping that they would ask me to be in this video game, and they did. So that was so awesome. That's one of the main reasons why I took it, so that hopefully they would put me in it. I just always have wanted to be a part of the video game. I watched it growing up. I never played them because I was just really bad. I was terrible. But I thought they were dope, so I'd just watch my brother play them all the time.

The only two that I'm actually good at are "Mortal Kombat" and "Grand Theft Auto." That's probably it.

So once you got that invite, what did you fall in love with as far as your character, Cora, goes?

I fell in love with her integrity, and the fact that she was just so in your face. So much attitude, totally down to kick butt. When you have that, it's awesome because it's very easy for me to play because that's me. Because that's totally me, by the way! It's already completely me, the character.

I could easily be a Galactic Ranger. Somebody give me a chance! I'll go up into space!

This is such an interesting and cool time in your career. What's it been like for you to get these opportunities and really stretch yourself in the various directions that you're going?

I mean, I'm just so lucky. I'm lucky I get to do what I do, and I've been given the opportunity to do it. I'm all about playing different people and just being me. I love to step out of my comfort zone. Whenever I get to do something really interesting, I really have to pay attention and really just do my full -- my hardest that I can.

"Famous in Love" got picked up to series at Freeform. You've already done the pilot. Tell me what was it about the show that made you say, "Yeah, I'm totally on board."

Being able to be producer and getting creative credit. Marlene and I took this show from a book. We made this show and we were selling it, and we ended up selling it together to ABC. So being able to be in the pitch meetings was so cool. It was so cool because it was completely different for me. That was something that I had no experience in whatsoever. So the creative aspect of acting, everything that goes beyond the screen -- I got to learn all about it.

Tell me a little bit about the actual storyline of the show.

Well, when I read the book [by Rebecca Serle] originally -- it was a long time ago -- I thought it was cool that we show Hollywood [for] what it is. People think it's so glamorous and it's so perfect and everybody is so nice. And it's not. It's not that perfect. So it's cool when you're able to go behind and you know, show everything to everyone. So I'm glad to get to kind of open up that world.

You know a little bit about being famous yourself. Are you comfortable with fame, or are there parts of it that you still have to wrap your head around?

There's a lot of things in Hollywood. It depends on what kind of person you are, and if you're able to say "no." People might say that I'm a bitch because I don't let people push me around, or women are bitchy when they don't let people use them a certain way. But not true. If I was a guy saying the same thing, he'd be like, "Oh, that's a hot guy. He really sticks up for himself. He's so manly." But when it's a girl, it's the exact opposite.

So I just say, "OK, let people call me bitchy. I'm going to take care of myself, though." I have people watching my back, but I have to do the same thing. I've got to be me all the time. Unless I'm doing a role, I can't ever not be me in the public eye because I don't want to do that.

You have such a huge fan following and a big presence on social media. How would you like to continue to reach your audience as you go deeper into this adult phase of your career?

With the audience, I mean, the most amazing thing would be to help somebody in life. As a human being, I feel like that's just your natural instinct -- to want to help someone. If you can, why wouldn't you? I don't understand why you wouldn't. So that's my main goal in life.

I guess my goal for acting would probably be -- especially for the kind of roles I want to play -- number one, I'd be so down to play like a badass Marvel character. Any type of badass female in live-action, like Cora is in this movie. I also like playing roles that are very rebellious and real. So it's good when you really show teenagers for how they actually act and how they actually talk.

Have you set your eye on a specific superhero or super villain character that you'd love to play?

Honestly, if I could just play a female version of "Deadpool" -- any character that's a female version of Deadpool -- I'm so down!

Pamela Anderson Joins 'Baywatch' Movie

Posted:

Pamela Anderson Stars In BaywatchThe original C.J. Parker is returning to "Baywatch": Pamela Anderson has officially joined the movie version of the hit '90s TV series.

Star Dwayne Johnson announced Anderson's involvement in the production in an Instagram post, where he posed with the bombshell actress and sung her praises. Johnson called Anderson's red swimsuit-clad lifeguard "one of the most iconic characters of a generation," and added, "We couldn't have made this movie without you."

Anderson won't be playing C.J. this time around, though, since swimsuit model Kelly Rohrbach is taking on the role in the flick. It's unclear how big of a part Anderson will have, or just what it entails.

What's also unclear is the plot of the film, which is being kept under wraps for now. Variety reports that the first footage of the flick, which screened at CinemaCon last week, featured "many four-letter words and racy comedy bits," so expect it to be a bit more of an adult adaptation of the source material.

"Baywatch" also stars Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Charlotte McKinney, Alexandra Daddario, Hannibal Buress, and Ilfenesh Hadera. Anderson's fellow original "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff is also set to appear in the movie.

The flick is slated to run slo-mo into theaters on May 19, 2017.

Kelly Ripa Still Absent From 'Live' Amid Michael Strahan Drama

Posted:

"All We Had" Premiere - 2016 Tribeca Film FestivalThe drama continues at "Live! With Kelly and Michael," as Kelly Ripa still has not been back to the show since her co-host Michael Strahan announced he was leaving for "Good Morning America."

Ripa is allegedly angry that Strahan decided to depart "Live" without telling her first, leaving the hostess to find out with the rest of the world that she'd be without a partner soon. Since the news broke on Tuesday, Ripa has not returned to "Live," with Ana Gasteyer filling in on Wednesday, and Fox Sports analyst and "Dancing With the Stars" host Erin Andrews taking the chair on Thursday and Friday.

Ripa had apparently already scheduled a long weekend vacation to celebrate her 20th anniversary with husband Mark Consuelos, and had planned to be absent Friday and Monday before the drama unfolded this week. "Pretty Little Liars" actress Shay Mitchell will fill in for Ripa on Monday.

But it's unclear if Ripa will return next Tuesday, and according to a new report from Page Six, her relationship with Strahan was allegedly already on the rocks. The tabloid's sources say that the co-hosts "did not get along. It was all for the show. They could not stand each other, and whenever they communicated off-camera, it was always through their reps."

The source added that Ripa is especially angry about the the current situation because "She got [Strahan] started, [and] he stepped over her without an FYI." An anonymous source from Strahan's camp, meanwhile, countered that version of events, claiming that the former football star was forbidden from discussing the "GMA" deal with anyone -- including Ripa -- until it was made public. But that source admitted that there was existing "tension" between the two before Tuesday.

Ripa has so far remained mum amid her silent protest, though Strahan has been working overtime to put a positive spin on his exit, praising Ripa and "Live" in his co-host's absence.

"I'm very thankful for her, to her, because I've learned so much from her," Strahan said on an appearance on "GMA" on Thursday. "And [executive producer] Michael Gelman showed me the ropes. I was so new to all of this and if it weren't for her and it weren't for Michael Gelman and the staff there that really boosted me up and made me look a lot better than I really am, I never would have had a chance to be here and I'm grateful that I'm here. We're on the same team, same family, same network."

Strahan starts his new "GMA" gig in September. Sounds like it's going to be a long few months for him and Ripa until then.

Peabody Awards Honor 'black-ish,' 'Jessica Jones,' 'Beasts of No Nation'

Posted:

Winners in the entertainment and children's categories of the Peabody Awards were announced on Friday, honoring an eclectic array of television series (and one movie) including a network comedy, a reality show send-up, prestige cable dramas, and buzzworthy streaming series.

The 75th annual awards, given by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, are meant to distinguish excellence in electronic media, though in years past, the organization's parameters have expanded considerably in terms of what specific formats are honored. "Serial" made headlines in 2014 when it was the first ever podcast selected for a Peabody; this year's offbeat selection is "Beasts of No Nation," Netflix's feature film that's the only movie among the multiple television honorees. (Winners in the documentary and education categories will be announced later this month.)

Here's the full winners list so far:

"Beasts of No Nation"
"black-ish"
"Deutschland 83"
"Marvel's Jessica Jones"
"Master of None"
"Mr. Robot"
"The Leftovers"
"Transparent"
"UnREAL"
"Wolf Hall"
"Katie Morag"

In a statement, Peabody director Jeffrey P. Jones said, "[W]ith programming readily available for on-demand and online streaming through new platforms and exhibition spaces, what separates these spaces is less meaningful than the stories being told there. Throughout all this, the scope of the Peabody Awards continues to grow as media changes, but our goal remains the same: to recognize stories that matter."
