The Geek Beat Recommends These Movie-Related Comics on Free Comic Book Day

Posted: 26 Apr 2016 09:30 PM PDT

It's almost May, and that means another Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner. As always, the worldwide celebration of comic books kicks off on the first Saturday in May – which falls on May 7 this year – just as it has since the very first Free Comic Book Day back in 2002. The annual event offers up piles of free comics to anyone willing to make the trip to their local comic book shop, and boasts an impressive range of projects that span the spectrum from small, independent publishers to the “Big Two,” Marvel and DC Comics. And much like previous years, the comics available during Free Comic Book Day include quite a few projects with both direct and indirect ties to the movie world. Here are a few of the comics that movie fans who head to...

Yes, another subscription streaming service. But this one might just be your favorite if you're a serious cineaste. Read on for what we know about the new VOD outlet from the Criterion Collection in collaboration with Turner Classic Movies below. What's so special about this streaming service? True Royalty Rumored to Appear in 'Star Wars: Episode VIII'

Posted: 26 Apr 2016 07:00 PM PDT

In the original Star Wars, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) refuses to respect the royal status of Princess Leia (Carrie Fischer), referring to her as "your worshipfulness," "your worship" and "your highness" with a clear tone of mocking insincerity. Things changed between them in the subsequent films, of course, but their initial exchanges reinforced the idea that the heroes were commoners who didn't put on airs. So how would Han Solo react to rumors that Prince William and Prince Harry may appear in Star Wars: Episode VIII? The movie is currently in production at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. and recently the royal British brothers visited the set. Pictured in the official photo above, left to right: Mark Hamill, writer/director Rian Johnson, Prince...

This 'Captain America: Civil War' TV Spot Reveals More Spider-Man

Posted: 26 Apr 2016 04:00 PM PDT

We've seen Captain America: Civil War, and trust us when we say that Spider-Man is one of the most memorable parts of what may eventually go down as Marvel's best movie. The web slinger isn't in a ton of the film, but he elevates the scenes he's in while every line of dialogue he speaks not only builds upon the new version they're introducing to the world (played by Tom Holland), but they're all so wickedly enjoyable. It's almost impossible to watch this new version of Spider-Man do his thing without having a big ol' dorky smile on your face -- especially as you watch his amazing encounters with all of the other Marvel heroes. One such encounter -- with Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier -- is teased in this new TV spot. Check it out. What...

'Alien' Day Shopping Guide: Posters, Vinyl, Clothes and More

Posted: 26 Apr 2016 02:30 PM PDT

Star Wars Day exists because of a pun, because someone decided that May 4th has enough in common with “may the Force be with you” that it can be transformed into a holiday to celebrate a beloved science fiction series. And now, we have Alien day, which exists because the planet that plays host to the Xenomorph menace in Alien and Aliens is named LV-426. 426. April 26th. So... there you go. And while that may be silly, it does mean that a few cool companies are using this opportunity to produce some fantastic posters and merchandise connected to the legendary series, much of which will be available to you right now. Let’s start with Mondo, the Austin-based purveyor of geeky goodness who has been on top of the pop culture poster and art game for some time now...

See Proof That Daisy Ridley's Rey Is a Much More Badass Jedi in 'Star Wars Episode VIII'

Posted: 26 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Much in the same way Luke Skywalker spent much of Empire Strikes Back learning how to be a proper Jedi, we have a feeling some of those elements will carry over to the second film in the new Star Wars trilogy, currently known only as Episode VIII. Both Rey and Kylo Ren will probably spend a chunk of the film mastering their differing ways of the Force. We imagine Luke will teach Rey the ways of the Jedi, while Snoke assists Kylo Ren in finishing his transformation to the Dark Side. In a new video posted on Daisy Ridley's Instagram page, she shows off some of the rad moves she's been practicing for the sequel, currently in production and scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2017. Check her out.   So @liangstunts (TRAITOR) is WUSHU FRICKING...
