Emilia Clarke Won't Be Back for 'Terminator' Sequels

Posted:

emilia clarke, terminator, genisys, sarah connorAfter "Terminator: Genisys" opened last year to middling success at the box office (and was a fairly definitive dud among critics), it seemed unlikely that there would be a sequel. Now, star Emilia Clarke has officially removed herself from the equation, revealing in a recent interview that she won't be back for any future installments.

Clarke, who played a young Sarah Connor in the reboot, chatted with ComingSoon.net about her upcoming slate of film projects. But those plans don't include any more "Terminator" flicks. Here's what she told the site:

"No," Clarke put it succinctly when we asked if she might again play Sarah Connor in future Terminator sequels. "Can I say that? It's okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up."

That's a pretty blunt response, but we don't blame her for wanting to emphasize her other projects, while also distancing herself from the disappointing "Genisys." According to ComingSoon, studio Paramount is reportedly "readjusting" its vision for the future of the franchise following this latest reboot's underwhelming performance. Now, it will have to do so without its star.

Don't feel too bad for Clarke, though. After all, she's still starring on the massively popular "Game of Thrones," and has the promising "Me Before You" opening this summer. Hopefully "Genisys" will just be a blip on the road to a long and satisfying career for the starlet.

Robert Downey Jr. to Appear in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming': Report

Posted:

France Captain America Civil War PremiereAfter Marvel execs teased that existing MCU characters would be popping up in the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, one familiar face has reportedly already been confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that Robert Downey Jr. will indeed appear as Iron Man in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," once again teaming up with his "Captain America: Civil War" co-star Tom Holland, who's playing the web-slinging superhero. "Civil War," per THR, "establishes a key relationship between Tony Stark/Iron Man and [Peter] Parker and 'Homecoming' will continue that thread."

It's unclear if Downey will also appear in additional "Spider-Man" flicks after "Homecoming," or if this is just a one-off for the actor in the new franchise. Downey has been making big bank playing Iron Man, so it would make sense for him to continue to cash in on that success; of course, the "Avengers" flicks have kept him busy, too (not to mention his non-Marvel projects), so it remains to be seen how many more movies he'll suit up for.

THR reports that the continued Spidey-Stark relationship is a strategic one for Marvel, which is teaming with studio Sony to handle the character this time around. Sony's last attempt at a "Spider-Man" reboot floundered, and it sought out Marvel's assistance in breathing new life into the character; with Downey onboard, "Homecoming" is very clearly a Marvel project, something the studio no doubt wants audiences to remember.

Audiences can check out Downey and Holland's chemistry when "Captain America: Civil War" opens on May 6. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is due in theaters on July 7, 2017.

'Game of Thrones' Renewed for Season 7

Posted:

Surprising no one, HBO has signed up for more "Game of Thrones," officially renewing the fantasy series for a seventh season.

The premium cable channel made the announcement on Thursday, three days ahead of the hotly-anticipated debut of season six. Of course, in true HBO fashion, the network is staying silent about specific plans for the show's future.

What's still up in the air in the reported plan by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to write only 13 more episodes of the series. Last week, the producers made headlines when they said they envisioned perhaps only two more additional seasons to wrap up "GOT," a plan similar to what AMC did with the split final seasons of "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men." (Benioff and Weiss said a potential season seven would have seven episodes, while the eighth and likely final season would have six.) In response to that proposal, HBO brass said that no concrete decision about the length of those potential final seasons had been made yet, though the network remained hopeful that there was more "Thrones" in store for fans.

In addition to the "GOT" renewal, HBO also signed on for additional seasons of comedies "Silicon Valley" and "Veep," which will be back next year for seasons four and six, respectively. Those two shows will also make their season premieres on Sunday night.

Season six of "Game of Thrones" hits HBO on April 24.

Prince Has Died at 57

Posted:

2015 American Music Awards - ShowPrince, the iconic musician and worldwide superstar, has died. He was 57.

Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, was found dead on Thursday morning at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. The artist's publicist confirmed his passing, according to The Associated Press.

No cause of death has been released yet, though the musician experienced a medical emergency on April 15 that forced the plane he was traveling on to make an emergency landing. He appeared at a concert the next day, and assured fans that he was alright; his representatives said that he was suffering from the flu.

According to TMZ, before the April 16 concert, Prince also cancelled two previous appearances due to health concerns.

Prince broke onto the music scene in the late 1970s, and became a superstar after the release of his 1982 album "1999." The artist went on to rule the charts throughout the rest of the decade, selling more than 100 million albums throughout his long and varied career (which included a rebranding as The Artist, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, an unpronounceable symbol, and finally, reverting back to Prince).

Prince won seven Grammys, and also took home an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score (a now-defunct category) for 1984's "Purple Rain," which was his film debut. The iconic flick is widely considered one of the best music films ever made.

Though he only acted in a handful of other films throughout his career, Prince also made numerous appearances as himself in TV shows and movies, including a memorable guest turn on the post-Super Bowl episode of "New Girl" in 2014. He also directed himself in the 1986 flick "Under the Cherry Moon," as well the concert documentary "Sign 'o' the Times."

Robert Downey Jr. Plans to Film 'Sherlock Holmes 3' This Year: 'I Can't Wait'

Posted:

How can Robert Downey Jr. squeeze a third "Sherlock Holmes" movie into 2016, what with worldwide promotion for "Captain America: Civil War" followed by "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and filming for Marvel's two "Avengers: Infinity War" behemoths? It won't be elementary (here all week!), but Downey is itching to crack another case with director Guy Ritchie and co-star Jude Law.

Downey recently talked to ShortList about "Civil War" and name-dropped Ritchie, who directed both 2009's "Sherlock Holmes" and 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."

Here's the conversation from there:

You mentioned hanging out with Guy Ritchie in London. Have you had any discussions about a third Sherlock Holmes film?

We're talking about it right now. NOW. I can't wait.

Do you mean today?

We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have it done in a week. I know Guy Ritchie loves me as much as I love him – and he damn well should. When we're making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. We'll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I'm tired all the time, but I'm excited about it.

So they'll attempt to make the film this year, but do you think they'll be able to do it?

As Collider noted, "The 2009 original grossed a worldwide total of $524 million and its follow-up, A Game of Shadows, did marginally better with $545.4 million worldwide, so Warner Bros. would no doubt he happy to greenlight Sherlock Holmes 3." Getting a green light seems like the least of the problems, but if RDJ makes this a priority, the seas will probably part to make it happen.

Hemingway Proves His Point in 'Papa: Hemingway in Cuba' Exclusive Clip

Posted:

EXCLUSIVE: Clip - "Papa: Hemingway In Cuba"
The legendary Ernest Hemingway was on-hand, as a journalist, covering many of the 20th century's biggest events: World War I, World War II, and the Spanish Civil War. He was also present in Havana for the Cuban Revolution.

The new biopic "Papa: Hemingway in Cuba" traces some of his time there, with a particular focus on his friendship with Denne Bart Petitclerc (Giovanni Ribisi). In this exclusive sneak peek, Hemingway (Adrian Sparks), known affectionately as Papa, apologizes for rambling to his new acquaintance.

"You're among friends here," Petitclerc assures him.

And then Hemingway asks him to choose a number between one and 10. When Petitclerc picks the number six, Hemingway starts scratching away with a pen and paper. The results prove that the famous writer never needed an excess of words to get a point across.

Opening Shot of 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere Revealed

Posted:

How thirsty are you for the start of "Game of Thrones" Season 6? It's coming in just a few days, but if you're drinking in every new bit of intel you may want to check out HBO's final promo before Sunday's April 24 premiere episode, "The Red Woman."

As you'll see, most of the footage is recycled. However, Entertainment Weekly -- whose critic got to see the premiere in advance, lucky sod -- added this intriguing detail:

"A little insider nugget: That very first shot in the trailer that arcs down on pre-dawn Castle Black? That's the very first shot of Sunday's premiere..."

Sounds like confirmation that the first storyline we'll follow in Season 6 will be at The Wall, even if it's not directly picking up from the final shot of the Season 5 finale -- Lord Commander Jon Snow lying dead (yes, DEAD) in a pool of blood at Castle Black, after being stabbed by members of his own Night's Watch.

Liam Cunningham (Davos) told TVLine his character will spend part of the premiere "moving" dead Jon Snow "around a bit." He teased, "It's like 'Weekend at Bernie's.'"

The premiere, written by showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, has the synopsis, "Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again." The title is "The Red Woman" but are we sure it's Melisandre? She probably has a role but the second trailer hinted to at least one other red woman out there, visiting Tyrion and Varys in Meereen.

As you probably saw, after the Season 6 premiere event, critics warned that the twists ahead in Episode 1 will shock even hardcore fans who have been speculating about what happens. We have all been warned.

Voters Want Tyrion Lannister as President Over Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump

Posted:

He's brilliant, but knows what he doesn't know. He's tough, but not ruthlessly brutal. He's experienced in combat. He successfully ran the biggest city in the land. He's unmatched for soundbites. And he always pays his debts. Hell yeah, Tyrion Lannister should be President of the United States. So what if he wasn't born in the U.S. ... and he's a fictional character on HBO's "Game of Thrones"? He's still better qualified than most of the options out there.

Survey Monkey did the tough job of polling 2,045 Americans on various questions, including "How do the leaders of the Seven Kingdoms poll against this year's presidential candidates?"

The results (among the 397 who actually watch "Game of Thrones") show that Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is tied with Bernie Sanders for the top choice for president. But unlike Bernie, Tyrion has support across the political spectrum, earning almost equal votes from people who identify as Liberal, Conservative, or Neither.

After from Bernie and Tyrion, respondents chose Hillary Clinton and Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) as best options, before Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, and -- bottom of the list -- Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

If Jon Snow weren't dead at the moment, he might do quite well on this list, too. And Hodor. Should Hodor not be the next Secretary of State? Or maybe just put him on the Supreme Court.

Chris Hemsworth Will Never Lose Weight for a Role Again

'Jason Bourne' Trailer: He Knows Who He Is Now ... Maybe

Posted:

"Jesus Christ, it's Jason Bourne."
"Why would he come back now?"

Good question. The official trailer for "Jason Bourne" attempts to offer some answers on that, with Matt Damon's alter ego regaining his memories just in time to get caught up in our modern world of hacking and spying. Also, he heads to Vegas, so maybe he remembered that he was pretty good in "Ocean's Eleven."

The trailer includes images from the past three Jason Bourne films, with the trained assassin saying he knows who he is now, he remembers everything. But as his old friend/colleague/former lover Nicky Parsons reminds him, "Remembering everything doesn't mean you know everything." He responds, "Tell me." It sounds like this is kind of a soul-searching movie, with Bourne saying, "I volunteered because of a lie," and wanting to come in to talk.

"Jason Bourne" is meant to pick up 12 years after his disappearance in "The Bourne Ultimatum," which came out in 2007 but was set in 2004. "We find him in a dark and tortured place," the actor told Entertainment Weekly of Bourne, adding that the world around him will look very familiar to modern audiences. "There's been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties."

Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander play new CIA officers who watch (and try to kill?) Bourne. "He's seen things," Vikander tells Jones at one pont. "He knows things. What if he's not coming for us? What if it's something else?" It usually is. Jones gives Bourne the soft sell, telling him after 32 kills people are safer because of what he did. "You're never gonna find any peace, not until you admit to yourself who you really are."

The first teaser and poster were shared just after the Super Bowl and this official trailer does cover some of the same ground, but with more action and hints to the plot.

Check it out: "Jason Bourne" arrives in theaters July 29.
