Get Your First Looks at 'Alien: Convenant' and Concept Art for a Grown-up Newt in 'Alien 5'

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 09:30 PM PDT

Yesterday was officially "Alien Day," but we can keep on celebrating. In fact, we can keep up the Alien franchise love for days and years to come, because there are more installments on the horizon, don't forget. One of them, the prequel Alien: Covenant, is definitely on its way, while an as-of-yet-unnamed sequel from writer/director Neill Blomkamp is merely a possibility. A good possibility, according to Sigourney Weaver, but still uncertain.  Still, regardless of the future of "Alien 5," which is supposed to be a follow-up to the 1986 installment Aliens while ignoring Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, we'll always have the concept art. Last year we got to see some illustrations of Weaver's Ripley, the resurrected character Hicks (Michael...

Ever Want to See, Hear, Feel -- and Smell -- 'The Exorcist'? Then This Is for You

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 07:30 PM PDT

If you're a horror geek and you've never attended one of Universal's Halloween Horror Nights, then you're missing out on some very cool (and frightening) interactive experiences that revolve around your favorite horror movies. Past Halloween Horror Nights have featured attractions related to Insidious, The Purge, Crimson Peak, Michael Myers and even the end-of-the-world comedy, This Is the End -- and in 2016 Universal just announced the first major film participating in this year's festivities: The Exorcist. Both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood will be presenting different experiences (details below), and so far we're oddly drawn to the version over at Universal Orlando, which promises that we'll "see, hear, feel -- and even...

Watch: Lando Calrissian Returns In New 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Lego Prequel Shorts

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 06:00 PM PDT

The good news for people who want to know more about the events that took place prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens is that Disney is releasing a ton of content, from novels to comic books to mini Lego movies. Those little Lego-driven movies were announced in February, and they're part of a series called LEGO Star Wars: The Resistance Rises. While technically canon, they also play fast and loose with the comedy, with scenes and interactions that would never actually take place in one of the live-action movies. Ya know, for kids! The first short, Poe to the Rescue, tracked pilot Poe Dameron, C-3PO and BB-8 on a daring mission to rescue Admiral Ackbar from the First Order and Captain Phasma. The subsequent two shorts just debuted via Toys "R" Us (hat tip...

Watch: This Unexpected Zombie Movie Just Won the Tribeca Film Festival

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 04:30 PM PDT

If you're not all that familiar with film festivals, let us just tell you up front: zombie movies don't usually win the big awards. Unless it's a specific genre-driven film festival, your run-of-the-mill indie zombie flicks typically play in a designated Midnight section, and then eventually make their way to theaters. Not so with the film Here Alone, which became the rare zombie film to win one of the most coveted awards at the Tribeca Film Festival -- the Tribeca Audience Award. The film is called Here Alone, and it now joins other audience-friendly indie movies like Jon Favreau's Chef as the favorite among moviegoers attending this year's festival.  So what is Here Alone?  Well, it's not your typical zombie movie in that it takes a more...

Here's Who May Star in James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez's 'Alita: Battle Angel'

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 03:00 PM PDT

What is Alita: Battle Angel and why should we be excited that it's moving forward? As our own Peter Hall explained, the live-action movie is based on a manga that revolves around "cyborgs, futuristic sports, Mars colonies, and floating cities." It takes place several centures in the future and is set in the former United States. A cyborg named Alita is the lead character. Alita lost her memories and became a bounty hunter. James Cameron dreamed about making a live-action version for years before finally hiring Robert Rodriguez to direct last October. At the time, we noted that the project had no time frame established for when it might hit theaters. According to THR, the film has not yet been given the green light by Fox due to budgetary issues. Still, four...

Watch: Is Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' the Year's First Major Awards Contender?

Posted: 27 Apr 2016 01:30 PM PDT

Oliver Stone's Snowden -- starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden -- was supposed to hit theaters last fall, but its producers, who were also behind the year's Best Picture winner Spotlight, decided to hold it for 2016's awards race.  Now Snowden is due to hit theaters on September 16, and like the Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour, it will track the real-life story of Edward Snowden -- covering everything from his military service to his time with the NSA to his leaking of secure documents to his time on the run from the very government he swore to protect.  Check out the first trailer below. Immediately we recognize how Gordon-Levitt deepened his voice a bit to sound more like the real Edward Snowden, and the trailer is...
