New on DVD/Blu-ray: 'What We Do In The Shadows,' 'The Water Diviner,' 'Burying the Ex' and More

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 09:30 PM PDT

Since it's been a slow two weeks for new home video, we're combining them together. One of the best of the year What We Do In The Shadows Directed by: Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi What We Do In The Shadows is one of the best movies of the year. I realize I already said that in the sub header here, but it's worth repeating. It's a deeply funny, tone-perfect mockumentary about a group of vampires trying to live their lives in modern day New Zealand. That premise alone should intrigue you, but this isn't just some casual reality show spoof. It's got lush production design, great characters, great horror touches, and a total embrace of reality TV style that brings out everything great in the genre while not getting dragged down by any of it. It's an...

Tell Us Your Top Three Summer-Camp Movies

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 08:01 PM PDT

Right now is prime summer-camp time. No doubt there is some kid not far from you who is currently attending some kind of summer camp, making it the perfect time to reflect on past summer camps -- like the ones we've visited on the big screen. There are classics that show us the traditional camp experiences, including Meatballs, Little Darlings, Meatballs II, The Parent Trap, Meatballs 4, Ernest Goes to Camp and Lolita, as well as the horror flicks Friday the 13th and its sequels, and Sleepaway Camp and its sequels. There's also Indian Summer for those adults who are nostalgic for the old camp (and camp-movie) days.  Now, though, there are all kinds of niche overnight camps, and...

Tom Cruise Teases 'Edge of Tomorrow 2' and 'Mission: Impossible 6'

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 06:10 PM PDT

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which we can attest is a heck of a good time at the movies, hits theaters on Friday (July 31, 2015 to be precise), and that means star Tom Cruise has been popping up everywhere to promote it. In doing so, he's already begun dropping some teases about a few sequels to movies of his that we might see.   Mission: Impossible 6 could go next summer. While stopping by The Daily Show, Jon Stewart asked Cruise if he had plans on making any more after this one, to which Cruise let out an unambiguous "We're starting to work on it now and will probably start shooting it next summer." It's nice that Cruise isn't playing a noncommittal game of "Let's see how this one does," which you often hear about...

How a Horror Movie Helped Police Locate a Wanted Bank Robber

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 04:30 PM PDT

One of the first rules of being a criminal: maintain a low profile. You don't want to rob a bank and then get caught because you were out and about spending all that money (we'll see a comedic take on that soon with the movie Masterminds). And especially if the authorities have seen your face, don't go making media appearances. Do whatever you can to not have your mug show up in the newspaper. Maybe don't get a prominent role in a movie, either. Tacoma's News Tribune recently reported of a bank robber who was in fact discovered by police thanks to his part as a mad abortion doctor in a horror film. The low-budget effort, titled Marla Mae, was hyped up in another newspaper, The Olympian, highlighting it as a local production and featuring photos taken on set...

These New Parents Are the Most Dedicated and Precious Movie Fans in the World

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 03:00 PM PDT

How do you maintain your status as the biggest movie fan in the world (in your mind) once you have a baby? Early on, their fussiness can interrupt even the shortest of films at any moment, ruining a simple Friday night rental. And when they grow out of that, they need to be entertained. But not with all your favorite movies. Not yet. So, maybe you have to see fewer movies for a while. That doesn't mean you have to abandon your love for the movies, though, not even for a second. Take a tip from the Mackies, a couple from New Zealand who had a child as they also moved to another country (Australia). They couldn't easily go out and meet new people, not without paying a fortune in babysitting costs. Meanwhile, they wanted something through which to keep in touch with family...

DC Comics Wants Chris Pine To Be Saved By 'Wonder Woman'

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 01:30 PM PDT

UPDATE: The Wrap reports that Chris Pine has closed his deal to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in the forthcoming Wonder Woman movie that's hitting theaters on June 23, 2017. This means that unless they decide to completely veer away from the comics, Pine will not play one of the Green Lanterns in DC's Green Lantern Corps movie. See our original story below for more on his character and the film. Previously... Not too long ago there was a rumor going around that Chris Pine was up for the role of Hal Jordan, AKA the Green Lantern, in the new DC Comics cinematic universe. Hopefully you didn't get too attached to that idea, though, as it seems like there's no way that will happen considering Warner Bros. has reportedly entered negotiations with the Star Trek...

Movie News: Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' in Question; Watch First Red-Band Trailer for Michael Bay's '13 Hours'

Posted: 29 Jul 2015 12:00 PM PDT

Gambit: Channing Tatum was confirmed more than a year ago to be starring in the titular role in Marvel's Gambit, but now an unconfirmed report claims that the actor's deal is "in jeopardy of falling apart and he is planning to exit" the project. Tatum has talked about his affection for the character, a Southern gambler and ladies' man, several times in the past, and it's not clear why he may be moving on. Rupert Wyatt is set to direct the movie, which is currently scheduled for release on October 7, 2016. [The Wrap]   Shaft: Private eye John Shaft first roared to life on the big screen in 1971, winning great popular success and an Academy Award (Best Original Song), and inspiring two sequels, as well as a remake in 2000, with Samuel L. Jackson...
