Chloe Grace Moretz Circling Role in 'Neighbors 2'

Posted:

Louis Vuitton : Outside Arrivals - Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Fall/Winter 2015/2016"Neighbors" was a surprise hit when it debuted last year, and now, the cast for its sequel is starting to take shape.

Variety reports that Chloe Grace Moretz is currently in negotiations to co-star in "Neighbors 2," which is re-teaming leads Zac Efron and Seth Rogen. There's no word yet on who Moretz is playing, and no plot details about the sequel have been released so far.

"Neighbors 2" will mark a rare foray into comedy in Moretz's already-impressive career. Perhaps this is a turning point for the young actress? After all, her soon-to-be-costar, Rose Byrne (who's also reprising her role from the original), was also a primarily dramatic actress before she became a comedic powerhouse in flicks like "Bridesmaids" and "Spy."

Along with Efron, Rogen, and Byrne, director Nicholas Stoller will also return for round two. Stoller's co-writing the screenplay with a team that includes Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Andrew Jay Cohen, and Brendan O'Brien.

"Neighbors 2" is due out on May 13, 2016.

Brie Larson, Russell Crowe May Join 'Kong: Skull Island'

Posted:

Coach - Presentation - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2015After losing a couple of key players, casting for "Kong: Skull Island" is back on track.

Deadline reports that Brie Larson ("Trainwreck") is currently in talks to take the female lead in the flick, which focuses on the mysterious titular island where King Kong is captured. Larson would join "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston as one of the headliners of the flick.

And that's not all. According to Deadline, there's another big name circling the project: Oscar winner Russell Crowe, who's being courted to play one of two remaining leading male roles. Both J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton had previously been attached to the film, but had to drop out over scheduling issues (no doubt due to their own awards success this past year); Crowe would likely take over one of those roles, though no casting breakdowns have been made available.

Of course, another sticking point with the production is that it's still waiting on a new script, and Crowe's involvement in the project hinges on what that screenplay entails. The film's release date is rapidly approaching, and production is going to need to start soon (Deadline says it's aiming to begin filming either later this year or in early 2016) if it's going to make that deadline.

Stay tuned to see how things shake out. "Kong: Skull Island" is due in theaters on March 10, 2017.

'Jurassic World' Sequel Coming in 2018, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard Returning

Posted:

It's official: A "Jurassic World" sequel is coming, and it's due out in 2018.

The as-yet-unnamed follow-up to the massive, record-breaking global hit is set for release on June 22, 2018. And yes, its stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back, too.

What's unclear at this point is who will helm the hotly-anticipated sequel. "World" director Colin Trevorrow has already taken himself out of the running for the job, though he's co-writing the screenplay for the new flick with Derek Connolly.

Stephen Spielberg will be back as a producer for "Jurassic World 2," as will his Amblin partner Frank Marshall. Maybe Spielberg will return to the director's chair for the franchise that he launched way back in 1993? (He was rumored to be doing so for "World," though of course, that didn't pan out.)

"Jurassic World," meanwhile, continues its box office dominance, officially climbing to third place (sorry, "The Avengers") on the all-time top-grossing international chart with a whopping $1.52 billion haul. And that doesn't even include Japan, where it's finally set to premiere on August 5. We have a feeling its record-breaking streak will continue.

See 'Game of Thrones'' George R.R. Martin's 'Sharknado 3' Surprise

Posted:

Playboy And A&E's The "Sharknado" flicks have become synonymous with cameos from C-, D-, and all the way down to Z-list celebrities, but one slightly-more-familiar face popped up in "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!"

In a quick cameo, "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin was impaled by -- and had his head bitten off by -- a shark that crashed into the theater where he was watching a shark monster movie (how meta). It's a short but satisfyingly-gory scene that also probably gave some "A Song of Ice and Fire" fans pause, since Martin is a notoriously slow writer, and readers eager for him to finish the series have been waiting for years for the next arrival (and worry that he may not live long enough to wrap it up himself).

"Sharknado" director Anthony C. Ferrante played into that fear with Martin's scene, telling The Hollywood Reporter that that was the exact reaction he had hoped for.

"I love the fact that we're going to piss off all the 'Game of Thrones' fans," Ferrante told THR. "Instead of writing his damned book, he was busy hanging out with us, filming a scene for 'Sharknado 3!'"

Ferrante also said that unlike some of the other high-profile cameos (we're looking at you, Mr. President and Madame Vice President), he wanted to keep Martin's involement under wraps, and went to Martin's home in New Mexico specifically to film his scene. That shoot provided some fun fodder for the film's home video release.

"He originally had a line - and we'll add it back in for the DVD - where he went outside, shivered, and said, 'Winter's coming,'" Ferrante explained. "But we thought about it and decided that we wanted people to watch it and go, 'Wait, is that ... Is that George R.R. Martin?'"

Mission accomplished. Check out a GIF of Martin's grisly death below.

LeBron James May Be Making 'Space Jam 2'

Posted:

2015 NBA Finals - Game FiveFresh off his hilarious turn in "Trainwreck," LeBron James may be taking his talents to a beloved '90s film.

Earlier this week, James and Warner Bros. announced a partnership between the studio and James's production company, SpringHill Entertainment, that many believe means that a long-rumored remake or sequel to "Space Jam" with James at the helm will soon become a reality. The 1996 flick featured basketball greats including Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, and Larry Bird teaming up with classic Looney Tunes characters to take on a group of evil aliens.

"To be able to partner with Warner Bros. will allow me to do some things I've always dreamed of," James said in a statement. He added on his official Facebook page, "Can't wait to bring you guys some amazing stories."

Reading between the lines, it sounds like "Space Jam 2" is all but a sure thing, though a Deadline report from last year linking LeBron to the project was quickly debunked by the basketball star. But a Capital New York reporter did some digging and discovered that Warner Bros. had reapplied for new trademarks for the "Space Jam" name just last month, before making the big LeBron announcement. Coincidence, or a hint that something truly is in the works?

We'll have to wait until James or Warner Bros. makes an official statement on the possibility, though with "Space Jam"'s 20th anniversary looming next year, the time sure seems right. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

'Sharknado 4' Is Happening, and You Can Choose the Plot

Posted:

sharkando, sharknado 3, tara reid, sharknado 4Because three "Sharknado" movies just aren't enough, Syfy has already greenlit "Sharknado 4" -- and fans can control a major plot point in the flick.

As those who watched the "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" premiere on Wednesday night already know (SPOILERS ahead), the movie ended on a cliff-hanger centered around Tara Reid's character, April. After having just sawed her way out of a shark -- and delivered a baby inside its belly -- April is embracing her family on the beach when a piece of space debris (it makes sense, kind of, if you watched the film) comes crashing down toward her head.

So does she survive? That's what fans of the franchise get to decide, as no sooner had the flick faded to black did the hashtags #AprilLives and #AprilDies appeared on the screen, with Syfy imploring viewers to use social media (and a dedicated voting page) to determine if April will be back for round four. An announcer declared, "Her fate will be revealed in 'Sharknado 4' ... because we're not done yet!" (Side note: "Sharknado 4: We're Not Done Yet" has a nice ring to it.)

Syfy used a similar crowdsourcing gimmick to settle on the subtitle of "Sharknado 2: The Second One," and the series has relied on plenty of fan interaction in the past. As "Sharknado" producer Chris Regina explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the audience vote was just another extension of that. He told THR:

The original ending for the film that director Anthony C. Ferrante was passionate about was having it all end on the beach in this wonderful family moment where they all hold hands, look up at the sky, Fin salutes his dad, and then we fade out. I said, "That's great, but it sounds like the ending of a trilogy of a franchise that's not going to continue. It's a satisfying ending that doesn't go on." I wanted to take a page out of some of the classic television stunts that have been done and contemporize them. We needed to do something that was going to keep the audience in jeopardy and want to come back for another 'Sharknado.'

For her part, Reid is taking the nail-biting wait in stride, telling THR that while the ending was "a shocker" for her, it's a "big turning point for the franchise."

"No matter what happens, I'm proud to be a part of this phenomenon," Reid said. "If the fans and everyone decide that April's meant to survive, then that's what's meant to happen, and if it goes the other way, I'm a survivor, and I'll keep on doing great things. ... Hey, anything can happen. There are no rules in 'Sharknado!'"

It's Game Over in 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' Trailer

Posted:

Hunger GamesThe game is coming to its end, but who will emerge the victor?

The final official trailer for "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" is here, and make no mistake - blood will be shed, lives will be lost, and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) will fight until the bitter end to triumph over the evil President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

Most of the footage is stuff we've already seen before (Finnick's wedding, Katniss and crew running from the toxic oil), but there are some new glimpses at the movie - more gunfights and explosions, a bit of Patina Miller as Commander Paylor, and the dreaded parachutes floating down.

And we get flashes of all the major characters, including Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and President Coin (Julianne Moore).

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" wraps up the hit saga adapted from the bestselling Suzanne Collins novels on November 20.

Julianne Moore and Ellen Page Fight for Their Love in 'Freeheld' Trailer

Posted:

FreeheldIt's magical sometimes when films come by just at the right moment to touch viewers, make a statement, and perhaps change lives.

The first trailer for "Freeheld" is here, and this might be one of those cases now that the Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage to be legal in all states. Based on the 2007 Oscar-winning documentary short of the same title, "Freeheld" tells the story of New Jersey police officer Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) and her fight to leave her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Ellen Page).
From the trailer, the movie looks to be part love story between Laurel and Stacie, and part political fight after Laurel is diagnosed with lung cancer. She wants her benefits to go to her partner, just as all the other cops' benefits go to their spouses in case of death.

It's a stirring story, and a stark reminder of how much (and how little) has changed in the marriage equality movement. We also wouldn't be surprised if the murderer's row of actors, most of whom already have Oscar nominations - including Michael Shannon and Steve Carell - get awards notice this season.

"Freeheld" opens in limited release Oct. 2.

Best of Late Night TV: Kristin Chenoweth's Duet and Ed Helms's Support Llama

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Let's kick things off with Cara Delevingne, who swung by "Late Night" to chat about playing Enchantress in "Suicide Squad." Apparently, Cara got so worked up during her audition that she felt straight-up murderous. Also, it should be noted that Seth's thoughts on the "Suicide Squad" trailer are as follows: "everyone looked liked they were about to lick someone or be licked." Accurate.

Prepare your body, because last night was the 9th Annual "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Pedestrian Belly Flop Competition, which Jimmy says "works the same way prostitution works." That's probably all you need to know.

Sony has an "Emoji Movie" coming out (LOLing forever), and Jimmy Kimmel convinced Brie Larson to read out the script with him. Shoutout to genius use of the eggplant emoji.
Ed Helms also visited "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and he brought an adorable therapy llama with him. His name is Reggie and he's your new best friend.
Over on "The Tonight Show," Chevy Chase showed up and played a piano duet with Jimmy Fallon. But the best part was his NSFW pre-performance banter with Jimmy. So many jokes about the host's injured hand, so little time.
Finally, Kristin Chenoweth reluctantly visited "Late Late Show," where she and James Corden sung a duet. #blessed
