Here's Everything You Need to Know About Christopher Nolan's Next Movie, 'Quay'

Posted: 27 Jul 2015 09:30 PM PDT

Christopher Nolan recently completed a script for his next feature film and naturally we have no idea what the movie is actually about. But that doesn't mean the world has to wait all that long to see a new Christopher Nolan movie. In fact, there's a new Nolan movie world premiering in August. But it's probably not the kind of movie you're expecting from the guy who makes megabudget blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Interstellar.   What's it called? Quay. Just Quay.   Quay? Sounds like it might be sci-fi Nope, it's a documentary. A short documentary, to be precise.   What's it about? Identical twin filmmakers Stephen and Timothy Quay (AKA the Brothers Quay), who have made features, including The Piano Tuner of...

Watch Simon Pegg Describe 'Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation' Using Only Emojis

Posted: 27 Jul 2015 08:00 PM PDT

Ah, emojis... you love 'em, you hate 'em, and you can't stop using them.  Emojis work because they force us to think more visually and express ourselves with imagery, which is part of the reason why they're so addictive. It's fun to see why our friends and family use emojis and how they use them (and why they shouldn't be using them -- stop sending me random flower-puppy emoji combos, mom), and you can't help but break out a fist-bump whenever Star Wars introduces a new set of emojis on Twitter.  I mean, c'mon.   How would you describe your favorite movie using only emojis? While in Vienna, Austria attending the premiere of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation for Fandango, I asked Simon Pegg (who plays computer genius Benji...

Watch the Endings of 'Halloween' and 'Star Wars' While Listening to Original-Release Audience Reactions

Posted: 27 Jul 2015 06:45 PM PDT

There are some movies you just have to see with an audience. Actually, there aren't a lot of movies you shouldn't see theatrically amidst a packed crowd of fellow film fans. But, in particular, horror has always been a genre best watched with a lot of people, because of the communal experience of screaming in fear in unison but also because of the infectious giggling and general togetherness, the safety of a group, that can cut through the tension and scariness of something like Halloween.  John Carpenter's 1978 classic is pertinent to such consideration of horror viewing, as there's a video circulating today of the ending of Halloween accompanied by audio of a full audience watching the movie back during its original release. Now you can watch at...

Watch Kevin James Learn His Big Smurf Moment in 'Pixels' Was Cut and Given to Michelle Monaghan

Posted: 27 Jul 2015 03:00 PM PDT

With Pixels arriving in theaters this past weekend, old-school arcaders were probably having some fun spotting all the little '80s references scattered throughout the film. One such memorable '80s-centric moment comes when the crew is out fighting an invading alien race who've disguised themselves as videogame characters and they come across an adorable little Smurf.  In the early trailers for Pixels, there's a funny scene when Kevin James blasts a Smurf to pixels, saying "Don't tell anyone I killed a Smurf." You can watch the moment below at around 1:33. At some point between that trailer and the opening of the film, the Smurf scene needed to be reshot and Michelle Monaghan was brought in instead of James. In this outtake from my Pixels...
