One of the hottest panels of this year's Comic-Con was held for Star Wars, mostly for this year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and we were there to get all the scoops and share some of the new images from the highly anticipated sequel. Here's the important stuff we learned and saw: - First of all, ontrary to rumors, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is not already shooting. But it begins production in three weeks.  - Joining Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill representing the original cast on stage, Harrison Ford made his first public appearance since his plane crash, and even without that accident it was a surprise to see him. When the actor was asked what it felt like to walk on to a new Star Wars set, he said, "It should have felt...

Today in Movie Culture: New 'Batman v Superman' Trailer (Gag), How 'Jurassic World' Should Have Ended and More

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 10:30 PM PDT

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:   Fake Trailer of the Day: Conan O'Brien got his hands on the latest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which reveals it's not the movie we thought it would be.   Comic Book Movie History Image of the Day: The caption for this image detailing the dawn of the X-Men movie franchise and more speaks for itself:   This picture is more interesting in it's history than its quality. On the left I have just asked @thehughjackman, standing far right, if he would play the role of Wolverine. To my left is my former assistant and eventual X-Men Executive Producer Tom Desanto, who would go on to be a Producer of the Tranformers franchise. And...

Related Watching: From 'Seconds' to 'Face/Off' - Diving Into Body Swap Sci-Fi Movies

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 09:00 PM PDT

In Self/less, Ben Kingsley plays a dying old man who undergoes a radical procedure that transfers his consciousness into a younger body, giving him a second chance at life. But since this is a movie, not all goes according to plan. What, exactly, is his new identity? Where did this younger body come from? Can the former identity of this new body resurface and force him out? Questions about identity have been commonplace in fiction since human beings originally swapped tales around campfires. Cinema still tackles these big questions -- Who are we? What makes us, well, us? Can we truly ever change ourselves? Self/less seemingly asks these kinds of questions, but its basic premise borrows tropes from a few classic and not-so-classic movies. In fact, the trailer reads like a greatest...

See the New 'Ghostbusters' Team Suited Up and Ready to Kick Butt In First Official Photo

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 08:27 PM PDT

It hasn't been difficult to get glimpses of the Ghostbusters reboot, even though we're more than a year away from its release. Director Paul Feig has been tweeting the important stuff, such as our first look at the new Ecto-1 and even instructions on how to build our own proton packs. And there have also been plenty of photos posted by amateurs and paparazzi catching shots of the actors in action on the streets of the Boston set. Plus a first look at an Ecto-2 motorcycle that we haven't been able to confirm is legit.  Yesterday, another unofficial picture circulated the web and social media, this one of the four main characters -- played by Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon -- in near-full costume. To make up for that leak, Feig today...

Comics on Film: 5 Supporting Heroes Who Could Make Great Movies

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 08:00 PM PDT

With Comic-Con International now in full swing, comics-related movie and TV news is flooding the internet. We'll see big presentations from studios on films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, Fantastic Four, and several others. One thing in particular, though, got the wheels turning for this week's Comics on Film. During the panel for her upcoming CBS drama Extant, Halle Berry was asked if she would ever be willing to do a standalone movie as Storm, the character she's played on and off since 2000's original X-Men film directed by Bryan Singer. "Absolutely," she said, before urging fans to tell 20th Century Fox that they'd want to see such a film. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a pretty populated...

'Star Wars' Books, Deadpool Sketches, and More Stuff You Might've Missed On Day One of Comic-Con

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 06:30 PM PDT

If the world feels a little nerdier right now, that's because another Comic-Con is currently in full swing in San Diego – and it's already been a busy one for movie fans. The annual celebration of all things movie, comics, television, and assorted geekery has already played host to some big announcements (as in, Batfleck-big and Bill Murray-big), but as with every Comic-Con, there's a lot of news that gets lost in the mix as studios compete for fans' attention. Here are some things you might have missed from the first day of Comic-Con:   IDW Goes Back to The Future Fans of Back to the Future had a lot to celebrate this year with the film's 30th anniversary honored in various forms, and Comic-Con brought news that the time-traveling '80s...

DVD Obscura: The New Indie and International Movies You Need to Watch

Posted: 10 Jul 2015 04:30 PM PDT

New Indie: It may not be the utter triumph that his previous film Frances Ha was, but Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young (Lionsgate Home Entertainment) sees the filmmaker slicing into both Gen X growing pains and Millennial narcissism with razor-sharp precision. It’s a contemporary comedy that’s both knowingly witty and uncompromisingly satirical. Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts play husband-and-wife documentary filmmakers feeling alienated from their best pals who’ve just had a baby. Along come young upstarts Amanda Seyfried and Adam Driver, who pull the older couple into their world of vinyl albums, vintage VHS cassettes and hipster street happenings. Are Stiller and Watts exploiting their new friends for their youthful energy and bravado, or do the kids...
