Posted: 29 Jun 2015 11:34 PM PDT

Today is a good day for geek franchises. We've already gotten some Marvel tidbits, most notably that the new standalone Spider-Man movie would be taking notes from John Hughes' high school movies, and now there are even more morsels on the way. And, surprisingly, they're not all Marvel related!   Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 That's the official title of the next Guardians of the Galaxy, which was first revealed by Kevin Feige during this past weekend's Ant-Man press day and later confirmed by returning writer-director James Gunn. But, really, that's all the extra that we know. Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Nice detective work, @colliderfrosty, etc! You got us! — James Gunn...

Marvel Studios Countdown: All-New, All-Different Marvel Offers Clues to Future Phases

Posted: 29 Jun 2015 10:00 PM PDT

Can anyone still be surprised by the characters Marvel brings to the big screen? Every original Marvel Studios film since 2008’s Iron Man has gotten the “will this untested property click with audiences?” discussion. We’re at it again with this month’s Ant-Man. Yet so far, Marvel has turned them all into gold. “Even the one with a talking space tree?” Especially the one with the talking space tree. Over on the publishing side of things, Marvel is revitalizing their line of comics with new directions that they’re saying will define the decades ahead under the “All-New, All-Different” banner. The titles under this banner are just starting to be announced (like Miles Morales headlining a new Spider-Man book with Peter...

Interview: 'Big Game' Star Ray Stevenson on the Punisher, Turning Down 'Game of Thrones,' and Kicking Sam Jackson's Ass

Posted: 29 Jun 2015 09:00 PM PDT

If you want to cast an actor who looks ready and able to waste every last motherf*cker in the room, Ray Stevenson is your man. Few actors have played such a wide array of badasses, from Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone to Volstagg in the Thor movies to Titus Pullo on HBO's Rome. In Big Game, now available to rent on VOD, he plays a traitorous Secret Service agent who brings down Air Force One over the Finnish countryside, forcing the President of the United States (Samuel L. Jackson) to evade a team of mercenaries with a young kid as his only ally. Yes, it's as bonkers as it sounds. We hopped on the phone with Stevenson to chat about his latest role, but our conversation spiraled into everything from Nazi zombies and Garth Ennis to Sully Sullenberger and Game of...

Talking to Birth Movies Death during a recent Ant-Man press junket, Feige stated the next reboot, which will star Tom Holland in the lead, will be like a John Hughes movie. "We’re inspired by him," he told the site, "and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us." Yes, some critics noted a Hughes-like quality to the previous incarnation of the...

Tom Cruise Fired His 'Mission: Impossible' Insurance Company In Order to Do His Own Stunts

Posted: 29 Jun 2015 02:10 PM PDT

One of the main draws of a Mission: Impossible movie has become the insane stunts that Tom Cruise performs himself. For the upcoming Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, for instance, the 52-year-old actor can be seen hanging on to the side of an airplane as it takes off, and he can be seen holding his breath for a dangerous amount of time while performing an underwater task, and that's really him hanging on to the plane and that's really him going without oxygen for six minutes.  It's therefore incredible that these movies can get insurance. After all, if somehow something went wrong and Cruise died attempting the stunt, the production would shut down, the sequel would never be released and the insurance company would have to cover hundreds of...

Movie News: 'Jurassic Park' Author's 'Micro' Heads to Big Screen; 'Top Gun 2' Plot Details Revealed

Posted: 29 Jun 2015 01:00 PM PDT

Micro: Steven Spielberg will help shepherd Micro, the final work by author and filmmaker Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park), to the big screen via DreamWorks Studios. Crichton died in 2008 before finishing the novel, which was completed by Richard Preston and published in 2011; it concerns graduate students in Hawaii who "find themselves miniaturized and cast out into the rainforest, with nothing but their wits and scientific expertise to protect them." [The Wrap]   Top Gun 2: Long in development, a sequel to 1986's Top Gun is currently in the sciptwriting stage, but producer David Ellison recently teased: "There is no Top Gun without Maverick," the role played by Tom Cruise in the original.
